Will this migration include a fresh server?
I just thought about tryingt this game out this week, but I don't want to put too much effort into it if it will be wiped in a couple months. |

I only see DAOC showing a 14 day trial?
Do you have a link you could share showing where it is F2P?
Thanks! |

I think it's sad that people are trying to force gameplay styles based on what they believe the point of Xsyon should be. Or wha they think is the inteded, centralized, or specific point to the game. It's a sandbox game. This means that the fuctions and mechanics in the game are open to interpretation and gameplay. Why is it so hard for those of you who are trying to deter PVP to understand this? Why are you trying to drive away players because they have a certain gameplay style? I understand that some of you actually think that evil players are evil; however, those of us who wish to PVP are entitled to play Xyson the same as you. Just because you see building walls as your goal in the game, doesn't mean the rest of us do. I, as well as other PVP fans, respect your desire to craft, and only craft. But you have to understand that your character is part of a fantasy world - the same world inhibited by us. We can make our characters any type we wish, as long as they adhere to the restrictions given to the game. The game OPENLY allows for PVP; it gives players alignment choices; it gives player looting. Are you really making a set of bone armor to fight bears? Here's a secret: you can kill a bear with no armor and only punching. There is a war game style coming after Prelude. Use your crafting skills to build fortifications. This is post apocalyptic - people in this situation would build fortifications, group up, and help each other. Peope wanting to solo in the middle of the wilderness are in danger of other player, just like they would be in real life. So please, in all fairness, play your style and we'll play ours. If our paths cross, prepare for any type of interaction the game allows for....even if you don't like it. However, please stop trying to persuade people to leave just because you can't handle an aspect of gameplay that YOU don't like. It's selfish. |

Ok, full disclosure - I am a Templar Knight.
And, I do find it unfathomable that all of you who are proclaiming “fail” left and right, have never played an evil side in an RPG. When you played Fallout: New Vegas, did you all side with the NCR, and raise your fist in your living room, shouting righteous bable against the Legion? You’ve never played a Sith, or the dark side in any Star Wars game? I find that hard to believe. The Templars are no different. They’ve given us the opportunity to play this evil tribe, and Roleplay these evil assholes. Does that mean we are all assholes in real life, bent on throwing power around, ordering our members around, making them grovel at the leaders feet? That’s insane. Would ANYBODY stick around for that shit? No. To be honest, we were talking about how we have recruited so many nice, respectful, helpful, intelligent people into the Tribe thus far. We have fun, we laugh, and we help each other out. If someone decides to fish 50 yards from an evil tribe, they will probably get killed (yes, we RP the Apocalypse, as intended, with limited resources...do you want someone taking all your fish, especially RPing a bad dude?) It seems to me, with the induction of so many shittasticall MMORPG’s, that people have forgotten the RPG in the acronym. To those who are proclaiming this is supposed to be a crafting game, you forgot to read the “About” section on the site. “...Players hold the power to create and destroy, to maintain a balance with nature or to cultivate a new civilization” http://www.xsyon.com/about It’s pretty easy to find, maybe read what the game is about before judging. To those of you who have expressed interest; please, take the time to fill out an app - we would love to hear more about you. We are a fun and helpful tribe,...we just have evil agendas based on the characters we are Roleplaying. If you are unable to detach yourself from your character, and can’t realize the difference between people in real life, and projected role playing personalities, start thinking about all the games you’ve played, and realize that you’re judging too quickly. Thanks :) |

The MMO community is at an all-time low.

I'm 30 this month, and started playing mmo's with UO. This genre of gaming is quite young.
There is a still a market for games to be the way they used to be. Investors just know that they will make more money targeting the solo player, and quick in and out action.
If the market demands something, there is still a way to fill that need. Bra. |

It has nothing to do with the generation. Like the OP said, even people his age. It has to be with the evolution of MMO's, and how they now target a different audience. You have to remember that MMO's followed the popularity of chat rooms. Games like Everquest originally marketed the game as a social world, not a world with phat loot and levels. |

I think a lot of us old-school MMO gamers would love to disagree with you, but can't. I feel the same way.
The fact is that once MMO's started to cater to solo play, they lost the social aspect, which was what made them great. Now, people who start off playing WoW are spoiled with the ability to log on for 20 minutes and solo quest.
Even though it was more difficult to have to put together a group back in the day, it forced players to be social, and be responsible for their actions and reputation in game. You're not alone ;) |

Mythic screwing us all over with spreading players over too many servers
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 10/18/08 3:33:02 AM
I think everyone understands that Mythic is going to let people transfer; I don't think that's the issue. The issue lies in the fact that many of us who have been waiting years for this game to come out have had different illusion of game than it is now. We want RVR and large scale battles. We don't want WoW Battlegrounds. Having a small population on the servers as there is now completely eleminates the reason many of us wanted to play the game in the first place. Mythic should know better than to release a game and hope that thier biggest supporters will stick around with such dissapointment. People are unsubscribing left and right; some never coming back, some waiting to see if the population issues get better. Will they stay dedicated to checking in on WAR to see if it's getting better? Possibly, or, move on to other MMO's (WoW) who will soon offer the same features. I have been waiting for this game since the day I saw the very first screenshots released to the public. To be honest, I am sticking around because I am optimistic considering how quickly they are addressing issues that are being brought up; however, I can certainly say this: If Warhammer Online does NOT have fixed RVR gameplay and larger populations, and remains a scenario grind, I will soon unsubscribe. I sincerely believe there are others who are teetering on the edge as I am, and it would be a shame to lose long time followers. |

So, I am returning to WoW and I would like to play on a new/newer'ish server. However, I would also like a heavily populated server to play on. Can anyone suggest a new server with a high pop? And not a recently opened transfer server either; I'm mainly looking for a new server with not many high level toons or insane economy. Any help would be appreciated :) |

Exactly what I feared: Item malls next?
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 3/31/08 8:20:03 PM
This isn't anything new, mmo's have had reward systems like this for a long time; it's not specific to EA either. It isn't worth detesting the collectors edition over. In the long run, you don't really get a significant edge over people who do not purchase the collectors edition.
...and no, AAA mmo's will never implement item malls, so get that silly little idea out of your head :) |

I played this game when It first came out and loved it for quite some time, and a friend and I are going to play again once the wipe happens. I remember you got to chose a starting city, and my question is this; which city is usually the most populated? If I come back, I don't want to end up in some far away town where nobody is. I want to be in the hustle and bustle. Can anybody recommend or give some insight into where the popular locations are? Thanks :) |

It was a different type of game back then, not one focused on flying through quests to get exp. It was based on having fun WITHIN a group, not just in the world killing mobs. Having the downtime did in fact give people a chance to get to know each other, and thats why the community in EQ is much more memorable than most other mmorpgs out there now. Unfortunatly, this formula wasn't solo friendly. With mmorpgs having a large portion of their subscribers being in the pool of poeple who want to solo, games "had" to adjust to the fast pace they are now... ...In effect killing off emmersive grouping and communities in mmorpgs, IMHO. |

A few questions about Vanguard
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 2/25/08 11:00:57 AM
Cool! Thanks for the info :) |

It's free to play now, so buying the actual game probably is a waste of money. I'm no sure if it comes with bonus content or not. Try taking it back to the store at tell them that it is free to play now and they shouldn't even be selling it. There was a store where I lived still trying to sell an Earth and Beyond time card in the closeout section about a month. That game has been shut down for years. I told them about it and they just pulled it from the shelf. I suppose they might contact the manufacturer as well for Fury - who knows tho'. |

A few questions about Vanguard
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 2/24/08 10:09:28 PM
1. Are there random rare mobs that you can find just exploring the world? Like rare ones that only spawn once every couple weeks or so like in EQ1 with special loot? 2 On some of the forums, people mention the end game being only a couple dungeons. Is it that there are really only a few dungeons for the end levels? Or are there a lot of dungeons, but only a few popular ones? 3. I'm not much of a quest guy, thats why I didn't like WoW. Can you just explore and grind in this game, maybe do a few quests, and still get decent exp? 4. Is there a level range where it is very difficult to get a group? I played Vanguard when it first came out for only a few days, so I understand the basics, I just didn't get very far to get these questions answered. I'd like to give it a shot again, and any info would be appreciated. Thanks! |

True. If I could, I would prefere to wait for the new 2008 releases as well, but I don't know how much more I can take! I've been putting off playing an MMO for WAR and it keeps getting pushed back so it's been a long time. Been playing consol for many months now. I'm leaning toward Vanguard now, mainly because I think the old world content is going to get boring quick. Plus, I've put way more time into EQ2 so it's not as new as Vanguard would be. Also, If all the bugs (or even most) are out, it's worth giving it a shot. Thanks for the replies! |

So I'm trying to fill my MMO withdrawls till WAR comes out. I have Vanguard and EQ2 already purchased from long ago, I'm just trying to decide which one to resub to in the meantime. Oh, I also only have the EQ2 expansions up to KoS. My question is this; Do you think it would be more fun to play Vanguard to go exploring and general just delve into the game a little deeper? Or play EQ2 for the easy soloability since I have a time slot when not many people ar online? I'm rather indifferent eitherway, for the most part - I just need some swaying :P
Thanks! |
