I find it funny one of The most common complaints I see is the Devs. One of the main reasons I like PWI so much Is because There Dev team is VERY active in the game. Heck the other day GM's were Contributing to Chuck norris jokes which eventually got shunned from world chat. Some one was complaining about them not fixing an area of the map. An GM's responed back that they need a break too.

Until WoW, MMOs were getting better with each generation. Gameplay, graphics, everything steadily progressed, tweaking and experimenting--evolving with each step in a very Darwinian fashion. Then Blizzard said, 'Let there be WoW!', and there was WoW. And I saw the WoW, that it was crap, and I separated the crap from my life.

WoW started the trend of lackluster graphics and mediocre gameplay with condescending mechanics being not only acceptable, but ideal.

Look at this progression:

  • Meridian 59 (1996) introduces us to graphical massively multiplayer gaming and PvP.
  • Ultima Online (1997) broadens the scope, introduces more customization, and allows players to own homes.
  • EverQuest (1999) brings us into true 3D and a new level of atmosphere and immersion.
  • Anarchy Online (2001) brings more consistent, compelling lore with the first big sci-fi setting, and better graphics.
  • Dark Age of Camelot (2001) introduces RvR and better graphics with several further improvements via expansions.
  • Earth and Beyond (2002) brings us into space.
  • EVE Online (2003) mercilessly crushes Earth and Beyond underfoot with a gargantuan galaxy, a full spread of gameplay options, and spectacular visuals to be kept ever up-to-date by an unforgivingly forward-thinking team.
  • Star Wars Galaxies (2003) launches with the most community- and immersion-focused design in an avatar-based game. Oh, and better graphics.
  • EverQuest II (2004) brings us voiced NPCs with lip-syncing, the first real inklings of story in MMO gameplay, and the best graphics to date at that time.
  • World of WarCraft (2004) introduces obnoxious overhead icons, a new definition of pointless PvP, crappy graphics, and several million newbies. Yay?

After that, it's more of the same and even more of much worse. No one tries to progress, they just try to mimic WoW or take its approach to further extremes. Vanguard (2007) tries to reverse the regression induced by WoW and succeeds for the first two phases of beta until it loses Microsoft's funding and ultimately Sigil's dream-team. Age of Conan (2008) also tries, though hardly with Vanguard's grace. Now here I am, waiting, hoping, ranting, whining....

 

Love the time line and I completely agree. I did not say WoW cause I did not wanna get flammed to sunday.

Well then. I  want a game that is Niether of these. I want full Blown Chaos.

Or Like these new ones Were there is Tons of Questing and Trade skill's But the ability to grind if you want But actually be able to get decent exp. everquest exp? But also get Decent exp from questing. Wow questing? Why does it seem every single game that comes out HAS to be one or the other?

I agree completely with the Dana. What’s the point of having requirements that only a few can run, unless you want to focus on that small market. That does not mean that your mmo has to be "simple" or unchallenging. System requirements do not make for good development and well thought out stories. The reasoning for releasing such a high graphic game is Marketing reasons. Like when EQ2 came out. They KNEW people were going to play it. But they also KNEW people would need to upgrade there towers to play in a world that dident look like mashed potatos. Sony not only has there own computers but they used to be in league with falcon northwest.

Uhm, the only game which came even close to EQ's design was Vanguard, no other game is comparable.

WoW has some similarities with EQ, but that's where it ends. There are many WoW-clones, few EQ clones, actually none except for Vanguard.

 

Agree. Eq has full Range Freedom. you can always go any were and do anything. if you have the strength. Really think about how many different places and creatures you could go kill at lvl 1. Eq has no general direction like most mmos.

Bull Crap. Dragonball based mmo? The revenue i would not doubt to be the same as when wow was released.  DB fan base is Insane.

Same as eq. After they update the Character models And ruin the game with New story cause they have used up all the old stuff. :).

Good idea. I dont doubt its already going on. eq had guilds that were on different games and on Many servers for each respective game.

Well the one direction an mmo can go will just continue to be boring. Do you find life boring?

Everquest 2 Was Probably the worst game ever made.

Vanguard Had such high hopes for this game.  Sigil felt like verant. Then it sucked and was the size of a hard drive.

and lineage 2 and DAoC Not much to say except they BLEW.

If thats the only two whats Everquest 1? Full blown Chaos?

IM is cool but not needed. Ive never used it. My roomate did for ext. stones cause hes doing every trade skill. Thats his choice. Let me tell you. even if you could by the materials to make your weapons or armor bettter. celestones. The only problem is. all they do is make it so there are more extension slots to add another stone that you in turn have to make your self trade skilling usually. that brings the stats up but not all crazy like. I am VERY happy with the games trade skilling. its literally half the game. Ill tell you trolls one thing. If your played the game quested and grinded you would not know of all the other things you could be doing Like the dragon quest or trade skilling. Grinding = Everquest. Killing millions of creatures with no direction except leveling not even questing which in everquest is worthless unless your getting a good item at the end of your grindcore grindfest Grindquest that involved so much work you wish you cut your own ears off instead of doing it. untill you played a game were level 1 - level 85 you literally fight only creatures and never quest THE WHOLE GAME. you have no right tagging a game grind that isent like that. Cause those games exist. Lineage 2 = THE korean grindfest. Too many F2P's have come out and ruined this genres name. Were i think PWI is the best game to come out since everquest beta 1998.

Cause PW Really Does suck. But PWI Is AWSOME. The lore Is amazing.  Dragon quest? check it out. Armor is the same......LOW level. DUH your low level.

Wow is a good game. It filled in alot of Gaps that were missing from mmos before it came out.  But The game felt like a 15 dollar a month Babysitter. The graphics were good but the cartooness how do you people Deal with that day in and out?

PWI and WoW are comparable. Almost the exact same game Fundamentally. wow is cartoony with Beer and Pretzels game play. Damn you wow for 4th edition!!!! Easy to learn easy to level easy to everything.

Really nobody should be on here bashing eather game unless they have reached lvl 30 or higher on the 2 respected games. Cause really put em next to each other and PWI would come on top. As the same game with more options Higher lvl something to look forward to endgame. The ability to buy things with out it being illegal. Players auction.

Its free? GM's are almost always online. The devs care? The community is nice and helpfull. Chuck norris jokes got shunned from world chat. 1337 noobzors Fags I have not seen them yet. Theres Alot of High to low lvl seperation. The economy is fixed so it cant be jacked up. The graphics have a more realistic feel. Why would you want a cartoon to look more cartoony?

Wow is like MMO introduction. Really i prolly deep inside like PWI the same reasion the only P2P i would play is eq. The Game is actually difficult as a whole.

I am curiouse. If your leveling involves mostly Questing all the way to 66ish. that means your arguments of this being a korean grind is true for the last half. which involves going beyond epic level to level 101. good thing these mmos are not D&D grind. one month to gain one level.

 

Just because a Game is free to "PLAY". Keywords here. Does not mean the company is not making enough if not more money To make the game as a whole better. So with that Note Where exactly is the Difference Between the two?

An MMO of the Real world. Not much else to say. IT wold be Fantastic Tool for learning and many other things. Just think when you wanna teach somebody about something you can bring them there in a Real high graphic 3-d Environment.

I think the main goal would be to create high Graphics on Multiple levels For different users. Low to Medium to high. With Each Setting Genre Having Its own set of Low to high settings. I hate when im playing a game and i lower the graphics and it Also lowers the quality. This way when exploring on lower settings you continue to keep the quality of everything you just loose The epicness you would gain from other settings.

I think the main ideal here would be to introduce this to Pre existing high lvl Characters. Possbily If you wanted to make an Alt. Since you already know the game and how things work. When you make an Alt you should be able to Begin That character at around 20-30 range. The only problem is the lack of Gear. They would have to give you a goodie bag. everquest Test server anyone?

Only Problems i see with F2P is once they are AAA as you so speak. I already think PWI is AAA. anyways. What will the P2P Games do? there gunna hafta convert I imagen.
