Judging by yesterday's performance, I don't think you should be worried :) |

Don't really know of any great ones out right now. You could hop on Planetside using their trial, but I hear the population is dwindling. There's also WWII Online, but again, the population is very low. Your best bet for a MMOFPS probably lies with Planetside 2, whenever that gets released. For now, however, I highly recommend battlefield 3 on the PC. While not an MMO, you do have some progression by unlocking a bunch of things, and the 64 player combat makes for a really great experience. |

Why I consider Minecraft the greatest MMO I've played

You may want to check out some realistic texture packs - check out the videos or screenshots of this one http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/138988-%E2%99%A5%E2%80%94%E2%98%85%E2%98%85256x128x64x173-realistic-hd-texture-pack-%E2%98%85%E2%98%85%E2%80%94%E2%99%A5/ While you will still have the blockyness, the textures are much more detailed and makes the world look 100x better. And to the other poster asking if they can explore and whatnot, you can do that for SURE. Not only will you find hidden houses, towns, people's chests, etc. but also with the added 1.8 patch, there are big mineshafts for you to explore and also Strongholds, which serve as dungeons (which I believe will have bosses in them, come a later patch).

Why I consider Minecraft the greatest MMO I've played
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 10/04/11 7:41:52 PM
But wouldn't that be pointless if the amount of players that ARE online is nowhere near the amount of players that CAN be online? For example Vanguard, or DFO, or any other MMO with a low subscription base. You can find minecraft servers that have more active people playing at the same time than those games, yet those games are still considered "MMO" while these minecraft servers are not. I think these servers should be considered MMO's not only for that reason, but for all the other reasons explained throughout the thread as well. You certainly find more MMO elements in these servers than you do in mainstream games. Another example would be Global Agenda - considered an MMO, but really it is just a lobby waiting area for the actual meat of the game, the deathmatch style play with limited amounts of people. In minecraft, you don't see that - instead, you see ONE persistant world (per server) with events that can reach many (70+) people. In my opinion, that is MUCH more massive than other "MMOs" strive to be. |

Then why are you on this site waynejr2? The game is a great way to sit back an relax after a long day at university for me, as does any game people play. It's just that in this game, you are rewarded for being creative and are able to show off your creations. |

Yeah, it's bannable if you "grief" (break other players stuff) and you rarely see it happen. In official townships with rings, if you are not apart of the town, you cannot even break or place blocks as long as you are within their rings, so most of the time it is not even a problem! And as to the other person who said cheaters are everywhere, it is rare to see them. If there are, they get banned right away, so it is really never a problem. Also, the server is trying to create their very own client as to control exactly what is in people's .jar files, which would make cheating practically non-existant! |

Yeah for sure! Actually as I type this, my allie's city is currently being raided by about 8 of our enemies. They killed all our allies in the town, and are basically locking all of us out of the town by guarding all the entrances while they look around for all the good stuff to steal (luckily they won't take much :P ). I guess that's what we get for having all these enemies, but this type of conflict makes the game stay interesting. They should probably expect a retaliation soon... |

To each his own then. I totally understand that the "massively" term is used loosely in this regard, but is more definitely has a persistant world. In fact, it is more persistant than any other game I have played before. And yeah, this server pretty much changed the product completely. You can see that with many mods for the game (including shooter mods, pokemon mods, etc) but this sticks to the traditional class-based system you see in other games. It works really well for this server, and there is a pretty large coding team lead by the creator of the server, so there are constant changes and patches to the game. If you check out their website, you can see the constant patch notes and how much is really being changed. I went ahead and put the server info at the top of my OP to anyone else interested. Don't forget to also check out minestatus.net, you can find many other ways to play the game there. |

Why I consider Minecraft the greatest MMO I've played

Yeah playing alone is definitely a drag, but with others it's a blast. It's really awesome seeing how other people's structures turn out, you are free to be as creative as you want. I've told my friends that don't play minecraft this before: Building is like legos on crack. Question really quick, is it allowed to post the server name in this thread? I've sent the server website to all those who've asked, but for anyone else that wants to join, this may be an easier way. I just don't know if it's allowed on this board or not, I really don't want to get banned for advertising the server I play on :/ Minestatus.net is a great website to see which servers are currently at the top, but keep in mind there's thousands of more servers to choose from. Only from the top 10 alone you can see some really active servers (the server I play on is one of those!) but they are all really great to play and will give you much variety when deciding exactly what you want to get out of the game. |

It's been sent, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. To the others, I'm actually surprised on the positive feedback about minecraft being an MMO! I know many people like thousands of people playing at the same time, but really, I think this is just as massive as any other game because you are interacting with many people in a seamless world at the same time. Anyone else care to share thoughts about this? |

EDIT #2 - Due to popular demand, I'll release the name of the server in case anyone is willing to try! The server is named Herocraft, you can reach the website at http://herocraftonline.com. I recommend you join a township (or anything above a township) as it can really get you going in the game. The forums list all official townships, so you can find one that suits your play style. I also recommend you check out the wiki from the website, you can learn more about the server and classes from there! Hey everyone, I know you've probably heard of the indie sensation Minecraft, but I bet many of you haven't realized the full potential of this game in terms of online play. If you're willing to read in a little, I'd like to tell you of the adventures my friends and I had in this server, so you can realize the sheer amount of freedom and fun we are having. You see, I play in a server with about 8 other real-life friends, and have formed alliances with MANY other players in this server, and have made even more enemies. While still "small" compared to other MMO's, it does have thousands of active users (peak is around 120 playing at the same time) - which I still consider an MMO based off of everything that is possible in the game. You olden-day UO and EQ fans would REALLY enjoy this server, it is considered "hardcore" with PvP anywhere except for at the spawn city, stealing is allowed, full loot PvP (lose everything on you if you die), extremely sandbox, class based (including 4 tank classes, 4 rogue classes, 4 healer classes, 4 crafter classes, and 4 caster classes, each with their own unique spells) with leveling from either killing, mining, or crafting. On this server, my friends and I have created an official town - I know you can do this in games like Darkfall, but in this case, we build every single structure and decide exactly where we wanted the town to be on the map. Because of constant raiding to our town, we built a solid wall straight up to our town ring (placed by admins) so our enemies cannot enter. We designed a series of traps including a wall of sticky pistons, so if enemies try to break in, we flip a switch and the sticky pistons crush them quickly.
Our allies recently built a town right next to ours, which has been upgraded to a city (requires 15 signatures and a bunch of coin) and we have high hopes of becoming a kingdom (so we will own much of the map, and can control much of the market). Currently, we are laying off on raiding while we help build their city up and make it look pretty, so they can recruit many more people for the required signatures for a kingdom. Now me being a healer (druid to be exact) can be stressful at times since there are not too many healers and they are really necessary when adventuring out in the wild. Mobs are difficult to kill, and players have extremes amount of health so skill really comes into play in combat. Needless to say, it is very group based and if you are caught out in the wild alone, you are probably a dead man. In the near future, group dungeon will be added which will be an awesome addition to an already feature - packed game. If you haven't figured out by now, the server is completely player-driven. Currently there are around 25 towns, 5 or 6 cities, and a few capitals. You will find player shops outside of most towns, and many (including a major shop) close to the spawn city. These shops are completely made by players, selling things such as common and rare ores (like diamond), armor, weapons, reagents, etc. Prices are competitive around the world, and many shops sell out of materials so there is always demand for some sort of material. Traveling is dangerous when trying to get to these shops, so it's always good to travel in at least a group of two. The world itself is pretty big - currently the boundaries were increased for the new land in the 1.8 update, and it takes probably 40 minutes or more to travel from one end to the other. On top of that, you must take into consideration player mines underground, which are countless and filled with chests full of precious materials for you to steal. In fact, stealing can be EXTREMELY beneficial - stealing alone practically covered our entire town cost. And believe me, there are countless chests for you to be stealing, with player made houses popping up in the wilderness everyday, and many players do not take extra precautions to hide their chests properly. Another awesome aspect of the server are GM events. These events happen randomly, usually at the spawn city, but 3 nights ago it happened in our friend's newly founded city. These events usually consist of the GMs spawning many different mobs, including giants, etc and the players attempting to take them down. While the graphics aren't the greatest in the world, the amount of fun you can get from this game is staggering. Seeing 50+ people at an event working together to take down hordes of enemies is awesome, and trying to kill the GMs as the final boss battles is too much fun. Once the GMs are dead, loot is dropped any people scramble all over the place to pick up the rare things given away, such as apples. Well, this turned out to be a little longer than I thought. I don't want this to seem like an advertisement for the server (which is why I didn't even mention the server's name on here) but rather an eye-opening thread for all you sick of current MMO's out on the market. Minecraft is only $20 at the moment, and there are no monthly fees on these servers you can play on. There are many different servers for you to choose from, including a very popular RP server, where the players are in control of pretty much anything and everything that happens. Thousands of people play on these servers a day, so I don't see how that can't be considered an MMO. One more note. I've been playing constantly (almost everyday) since November last year. I still get excited and look forward to logging in everyday, even if I can only play for 30 minutes. I have never had a game last me this long, and I feel like I am still just getting started. The game is constantly evolving, and since this is completely player-driven, there are always new and exciting things to experience. As much as I wanted this thread to be an eye-opener, I also wanted to ask for your experiences with Minecraft. Have any of you tried our these servers for yourself? If so, what are you experiences with it? Would you consider it an MMO? I know for me, I play with many people and am connected to more people than WoW, which makes it infinitely more fun and more of an MMO than WoW could ever be (for me, at least). Please, share your experiences, because I want to hear them and maybe discuss a little more about the potential of these individual minecraft servers. *Edit - I realized I barely scratched the surface on these features, so if you have questions, feel free to ask. Go ahead and request more screenshots as well, I know mine aren't the best, but I can try to go out and take screens of your requests! |

Yeah, everyone is complaining about healing in this game, regardless of class. My main is a priest, and they heal just fine (if not great), but it's much harder than it was in WoTLK. You have to use your brain when you heal this time around, which is a nice change. Disc priests used to be great in PvP until Cata, and now they really do have issues, but upcoming class changes should fix them to a nice state. Anyway, pick the class you like to play. By the time you're level 85, things should be fairly balanced out in the game. Priests are my favorite class in the game, I encourage you to try one - their healing is very fun since you have options for every situation the game spits at you. Plus, if you like healing, they're the only class in the game to have two talent trees dedicated to healing, and each one plays very differently. |

Binaural beats, anyone tried them before?
Off-Topic Discussion « General Discussion 7/04/10 11:04:36 AM
That's really interesting..yeah I was reading into how the different frequencies can make you reach different types of effects you want, like energy or sleep. I looked on youtube for some and listened to the energy one for around 5 minutes (with headphones) and my left eyelid could not stop twitching! It was rather odd, but I think I'll buy the sleep ones from that site and see how they are (since they are 320 bit rate) and post my experiences here. |

Binaural beats, anyone tried them before?
Off-Topic Discussion « General Discussion 7/03/10 5:05:52 PM
I asked this question on a different forum, but it was full of immature children so I thought I would have better luck here. Has anyone every tried binaural beats before? I have sleeping problems (not insomnia), and would like to try these, but I wanted to hear from some other people's experiences before I bite the bullet and buy a song. The site I was looking at is http://www.rhythmheal.com - so, any thoughts or experiences with these beats? |

Darkfall: "Conquer the Seas" To Launch Next Week*
News Discussion « General Discussion 11/19/09 12:01:43 PM
We have been getting little sneak peaks of the features in the expansion via spotlight articles on their forums. Here's the unofficial expansion notes that someone put together with most of the features on the expansion : http://forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php?t=218517 In short, it balances magic by adding global cooldowns on spells and gives melee + archery love with special skills and abilities. There is a complete monster AI revamp as well and they are adding more house plots (800 in all) with the start of localized banking. At your house you can have a vendor to sell your goods that random people can come and buy, and they cannot be killed. And they are adding wildlife so fill up the world a little more, which will drop mats for crafting if killed. Click the link for more detailed notes. On top of all that, they claimed to make thousands of fixes on the game. Sounds pretty impressive; I hope they can pull it off. |

Black Mane view on WoW (old pre-bc player)
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 8/12/09 4:34:07 PM
To me, none of that really matters. I play the game because it is casual friendly and it is a blast to play with friends. Sure, getting epics is easy but some of the heroics are still pretty damn hard and arena takes a huge amount of coordination and skill in order to be effective. And, after years and years of playing, WoW is the only game that still has a massive amount of content left for me to complete. |
