So where is the Character Progression in GW2?
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 1/29/12 1:36:02 PM
I don't really play an MMO so that I can have character progression, I just look for a good time with friends and a place to meet new ones. Getting gear that looks different, and seeing different places is enough progression for me. I've never been excited over gear based on the stats it gives me, and I can live without AA. Just try to play the game to have a fun time. |

Questions & Answers « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/27/11 7:55:28 PM
I have cleaned my cache, used another web browser, reset my router, and restarted my PC. I still get the same message. I can't even open a ticket on their support forum since I can't log in... if anyone has the time to open a thread for me there I would appreciate it :D |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Mind Boggling Stats
News Discussion « General Discussion 12/27/11 6:19:31 PM
Perhaps they just posted these numbers to get a laugh or make people say "damn lots of jedi running around"? I don't see why anything said about a game somehow has to be turned into a fight, argument, or some sort of whose is bigger contest. Those numbers don't make me want to play the game, neither does Blizzard telling me there are 12 million WoW players. Why does there need to be some sort of number for you guys to measure the success of the game? If you like it, great go play it. If you don't like it, great don't play it. Worry about if the game succeeded or failed to give you what you had hoped and stop raining all over everyone elses parades, please. |

I assume they would want the Eve players first just because the games are going to be influenced by eachother. If they made a game that was connected to Eve, but the Eve playerbase didn't like the way it worked...well they would be screwing over their loyal fanbase. I personally am not a fan of Eve gameplay, but have always wished I could get into the game. I own a PS3 as well and look forward to having a chance to take part in the Eve universe in a FPS format. |

30 day of game time included? Not really.
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/22/11 6:25:13 PM
Yeah I really don't understand why this is getting threads and headlines on gaming sites. Nearly every MMO that I have played functions this way. You put in your CC info, they tell you it will not be charged until the 30 days is up and you can cancel at any time, and then you get to play the 30 days. All these people complaining about this are seriously bad at trolling. I think TOR is a waste of time, but even this complaint is just plain stupid. Enter your info and then cancel it right away...or don't play. Simple as that. |

SW:TOR | Should i Buy or Just Keep My Money
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/22/11 1:22:06 PM
Try the game if you don't mind cartoony visuals. Try the game if you were a fan of the KotoR series. Try the game if you enjoy single player RPGs. Try the game if you are content with themepark MMOs. Don't try the game if you are expecting something new mechanic wise. Don't try the game if you are expecting a heavy reliance on teamwork. Don't try the game if you dislike having combat pets. Don't try the game if you were hoping it would re-invent the MMORPG.
Its not a bad game, it is a well made game that is extremely similar to titles that already exist. The added voiceovers can be cool, but not so much when they are broken up by typical kill quests. Visuals are clean, but aren't going to push anyones system unless you are running things that are a bit dated. The game is very solo friendly, and while you will be able to find people to group up with it is still the same as many modern day MMOs; the community portion is not as strong as it used to be, and many players have the mindset of "If I can do it alone, why should I help out someone else." If you really need an MMO to play, or have no troubles with the themepark design then this will be a great buy for you and will most likely provide you with a decent amount of playtime provided you aren't a powerleveler or content racer. |

The wannabe SWTOR poll interim score has been tallied
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/21/11 4:59:37 PM
People will see how similar it is to other games and how all stories come to an end: i vote about 40-50% will leave the game in a few months. |

Who's changed their mind after playing this weekends beta?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 11/28/11 1:24:33 AM
I was looking forward to the game, but didn't want to pre-order until I had hands on with it. After this weekend I don't think I will be buying the game. Just not enough new stuff for me, and I didn't like every class having a pet. |

Hey guys, I wanted to check in here and see if anyone had the time to make up two builds for me to use for a new gaming rig. I would like to stick with AMD, and would appreciate a middle and higher end build. Basically the first should be as cost effective as possible while still being able to run current gen games decently, and the second should still be cost effective but with more power and life.
Thanks for any help guys! |

Hey folks just thought I would try my luck here. I'm trying to make a few more friends who would like to regularly play games together. I have my own mumble server for voice chat and currently play League of Legends, Left 4 Dead 2, Dungeon Defenders, and just started DC Universe Online now that it is free. I'm getting Modern Warfare 3 next week and will also be picking up Assasin's Creed/Saints Row. I already have a few friends who play a decent amount, but would really like to expand the group to about 10 or so people. If you enjoy playing the games I listed, or would be interested in giving them a try with a regular group please send me a PM and we can figure things out. As far as MMOs go, I am waiting for Guild Wars 2, but will also be dabbling in Star Wars when it comes out. DotA 2 is going into open beta soon and we still have a few spots open for our team if you would like to get into competition! Hopefully some folks are interested and we can get a solid bunch of people who are online regularly! Take care :) |

As some of you may know, Valve sent out DotA 2 keys today and each one came with two buddy invites for the beta! I figured I would start a thread where we could share the extra keys we get and maybe get some team together to play some. If anyone has an extra key I would appreciate a PM with it! If I end up getting keys from them I will be coming back here to give them out too! |

Thanks for all the responses! In addition to your thoughts on text and voice chat, if you could also share what game you are currently playing that seems to have a good amount of text chat still alive, or if you are in a guild that does not require voice I would love to hear about them. I'm in the process of picking a new game to play, and would love to know of some good places to look to have a good chat sometime! |

I like using voice chat in PvP situations where you don't always know what the enemy is going to do next and the position of the team may need to be changed multiple times in a short period in order to counter, however it feels like when playing the current PvE content that we have using voice chat seems a bit over-kill to me. We already know what the bosses are going to do after the first time fighting them, and usually before we fight them simply because of the amount of online documentation and guides. Perhaps if PvE content was made to make multiple choices or open different paths in combat that players couldn't predict every encounter I would welcome voice chat a bit more. Currently I have my fingers crossed that GW2 will have some diversity in their gemplay that will prevent such a harsh need for voice chat that seems to have taken over the minds of many in the MMO genre, or like mentioned earlier it could just stay prominent due to lazy people refusing to type. |

I know what you mean when looking at the harder encounters and the need for voice, which I don't have a problem with at all. I just don't like how it has come to voice chat being required by many groups when many things can be done without it. Voice with people is great at times, but the way it has become a standard requirement added to the amount of people who just say "I hate typing" gets under my skin a bit. Would be nice if encounters were made so that while being hard, others could pick up the slack of newer players who did not know what to do. Not sure how exactly it would be implemented, but it would be nice to add options other than resorting to voice chat to command people what they need to do. |

I've been thinking lately about what has changed when I play MMOs, and one of the things I recently realized is the need for voice chat. I remember playing games in the past where I didn't know everyones voice, couldn't hear their life story in a matter of minutes, and could focus on my game during combat instead of listening to everyone chat about what they had for lunch. It seems to me that at some point anything outside of general chat spam has died off and been replaced by 80-90% of voice chat. I personally miss the days of party chat and text based interaction, but wanted to know how the rest of you feel about the topic. Possibly you still have an active group of text based talkers who don't feel the need to request your presence in ventrilo every other minute? Share your experiences and give your opinion on the change from text to voice? |

Hey, Gonna keep this short and sweet, basically I am bored of the normal MMOs I have been playing and am waiting for TOR/GW2 like many others. Decided I will give the endless WAR trial a go and would like to have people to play with.
Anyone interested just give me a response here and I will get server/name information up as soon as my game is done downloading. This isn't a serious guild or anything, just a group that will have some folks to play with if they happen to be online at the same time.
Cheers! |

Call of Duty moving to a fee based F2P MMO style billing setup
General Gaming « General Discussion 6/01/11 12:11:42 PM
Of all of the bonus content I would really say the maps are the only thing "required" just because you would want to be able to play with as many people as possible- and the maps have been distributed in map packs for a long time now. While I think the map packs are a rip off, people have still bought them for years without a problem. All of the other things in the service I consider them as being a bonus and not actually being required to enjoy the game. They weren't supported in previous titles, and since they are actually going to require dedicated man hours constantly, I can see the justification in having a premium price. As you and many others have said though, if you don't like it then don't pay for it. I can understand people not agreeing with it, but the fact is that its an option. They can still get the maps without having the service, and their play won't change any from what they have come to expect from previous CoD titles. People need to stop getting mad over OPTIONS because they are actually good. Options give us choices, without options they could very well just say "The new CoD will have a monthly sub" or people could be stuck playing the usual model when they actually wish they could have the extra support given with this new model. Just be happy that the option is there, and if you don't want it you don't have to buy it. |
