Lets do some present-day research on Flashpoints and what Bioware is comfortable with releasing.  http://www.swtor.com/info/systems/flashpoints

There are currently 6 Flashpoints.  Now, that 17 number hasn't been included in Biowares content yet, as either their dynamic events game-play, since it isn't published on their site.  That's just what we know today.

At the end of the day, if there will be 17 by level 50. . .that seems like an aweful lot of hope.  I wouldn't trust Bioware to deliver on 17 at launch, and honestly, they dont need to.  But I'd assume more than likely 5 Flashpoints per faction, if you can stand away from the PR spin, and those will most likely be faction-restricted and 2 that could possibly be faction v faction Flashpoints.

But to infer that one faction, whether your rolling Empire or Republic, has 17 Flashpoints is not correct.  And that's how most might spin this....less than 2-months from launch, there should be more information, but I'd rather be less optimistic since the Bioware site is most up-to-date.

I'd very much like a key shared with me, please. :)

Researching a game before you plan on playing it works wonders, and there's tons of gear to chase in the game if that is what you choose to do.

they added 15 planets not dungeons....

{mod edit}

{mod edit}

There are not 17 dungeons or flashpoints.  Far from it, according to all we know.  Anyway, there are closer to 5 now, and typically 5 dungeons are level-based so that your doing 1-2 within each 10th level, based on experience with other multiplayer online games.

Sure you can grind the same dungeon continuously, but many think that form of entertainment is the most shallow and non-sensical form at $15/month.

Anyway, I do recall some mention of 17 planets, on-paper, but at this point it might as well be toilet paper, because we haven't seen that content yet.

In any event, this game will be a mix of LotRO and WoW, but since there are absolutely no open-world or community dynamic events, it probably wont be as content-rich as Rift or GW2, but a nice little Action RPG non-the-less.  I wouldnt go as far as calling it a mmorpg, myself.

So this is actually the map showing what you currently play, your gaming zone, without the adjacent sharded zones visible http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=QQ-MzCKMWaQ#t=594s

Sure the world is a series of square tightly-nit areas with scripted trails, visible quest hubs and visible rock borders that feeds you from one location to the next as you kill your 20 empire sympathizer mobs that don’t move what so ever until you are actually standing on top of them.

If I placed 20 sqaures that are connected by tunnels and panned out for an obscured distant view, I could provide the illusion of size as well.

Themepark exploration, I guess. Nice
Excellent read.  Well written by a self-admitted KOTOR Bioware fan that appears to be shallowly pleased with anything with a Bioware stamp, even knowing he is going to re-purchase and re-play KOTOR but at $15/month.

Just further bolsters my knowing, without suspension of disbelief, that Bioware has successfully dumbed-down the concept and mechanics of an mmorpg (with SWTOR) by devolving it into a single-player cooperative rpg (CORPG).  Clearly being a CORPG is fine, but doing it without the lies, half-truths and false label would be more credible and appreciated, when SWTOR is clearly not a mmorpg, but more honesty a cinematic single-player and cooperative online rpg.

Since there is absolutely nothing I can point to in the article, or anything from the past learnings, that represents the condition of “massively-multiplayer”, I can only point to the authors own experience about his quest experience. . . Retrieve a family heirloom from a village. Find the missing son of two local refugees. Get a doctor to come back and administer aid to the local Republic forces. Capture a pirate. Infiltrate a Separatist base.

And also point out some down-right careless game-play interpretations or smartly spun misleading based on a year of accounts about game-play: You’re never directly offered pure grind quests – no ‘kill ten Womp Rats’. As you move through an area, you’ll be given a running counter that will offer a further reward as you progress.

In the authors own words of experience, In practice, there’s very little separating what you do in the Old Republic MMO and what you do in the Knights of the Old Republic singleplayer game: find a guy, have a bit of dialogue, and then go out into the world to kill stuff. You just do it with your friends, and see other players running around.. . . it’s doing as much as the old Knights games, in a world in which you can play with your friends.

Yes. . .a single-player lobby-system world where you see 10’s of other players on the same screen doing the same single-player acts as you in a static and sterile environment as you compete to ‘hit’ a mob first so you ‘own’ its’ kill, wash rinse, repeat.

So as I’ve said before, I do look forward to this single-player / cooperative online rpg; in that regard, this was a positive article.

I hope Bioware can push content to stay ahead of the leveling curve otherwise $15/month for a single-player / coop online rpg is going to be hard to justify for me.

Is this game a solo game except for dungeons? ie. Wow, Rift, Lotro (ROI)

I really miss Lotro old group quests. Now all games you just do millions of solo quest and queque up for dungeons. I would love to play a game that is group focused.

Also does this game have in game voice? That is the single biggest reason I still play Lotro. When I do instances it is nice to be able to talk instead of waiting for someone to type out the strat. It makes foe a better community as well

By all accounts, yes. It will be a single-player rpg with multiplayer, or a good CORPG.  But for $15/month.

Flat out wrong.  You are either not comprehending what both developers and hands on gamers have affirmed about the game or you are part of the malignant mis-information train and should be reported for trolling.

Sorry, but my comments are not flat-out wrong.  I believe them to be as accurate as I believe them to be based on all accounts of information I have seen released.  It's not a shame to be a heavily instance and sharded single-player cooperative game that appears to be a very engaging CORPG.  But in my opinion it's more of a multiplayer game than a "massively"multiplayer game, but any accounts.

That is just my response to the origonal topic.  And as an aside, if Bioware can push content out to keep ahead of my interest waning or ahead of my leveling curve so as to not get bored at only having a few of the same battlegrounds or raid maps, and redundantly grinding the same content all the time, then it might be worth $15/month.

Sorry, but your comments are absolutely wrong.  Even the simplest search will pull up a plethora of developer quotes and first impressions and hands on experiences that completely negate your mis-information.  By all accounts, this is very much a MMORPG in every respect,  You sir, are a troll.

Okay.  So how do you perceive swtor as a Massively-Multiplayer game vs my perception that it is a multiplayer coop game?

I’ve see a plethora of single-player game-play footage as the primary outlet of game-play, mixed with 4-person repeatable flashpoints, as well as quest-runs that are party-based (as well as single-player), instanced 10v10 battlegrounds, but only heard about instanced planetary surface faction vs faction pvp with 100 people. . .is that what your hanging your hat on as massively-multiplayer?

Basically playing what amounts to capture the flag with 100 people as opposed to 10, without any sustainable entertainment nutrition or game-world influence, not to mention nothing organic about the core mechanics of game-play.  That’s your definition of massively-multiplayer?

If so, my interpretation of swtor being mostly a single-player game & corpg, being that ~80% + of the core game-play from my impression is single-player / coop /party-based, though a game that has very very simpleton & rudimentary mmo elements. . .is far different an interpreation of yours that it is a massively-multiplayer game.

I'm just giving the OP my impression.

Im still looking forward to this Coop RPG, as I origonally looked forward to GW.  And I will anticipate SW:TOR2 as a mmorpg, when Bioware gets started on it, just as I anticipate GW2 more-so since it is a robust dynamic virtual world mmorpg.

Right on, dude!

All that Rage practice came in handy; nice.  I saw GTwander cowering in the corner, though; that's what those themeparks will do to ya :)

Far from done is an understatement.  Many folks pre-ordered from this Indie based on their false promotion of feature rich and April launch, just to change the date several times, and have the feature rich portion be akin to a shiney penny to a retard.

I'll continue to take a chance on Indies, but these developers are like snake-oil salesmen, from my point.

The first videos of the boss fights were impressive. But as usual it was set up to look really good, in actuality the gameplay seems like any other MMO, and a pretty bad one at that. This video show what looks like very unresponsive and amateuristic combat scenes:

You really need to change your signature to "I hate korean games".  Using race to make a decision is your perogitive.

I think RIFT will be the most successful, just because the other (TERA) is korean, and I'm sorry but I'm done with games from Korea...

If I want to do anything on other gaming genres, there's far superior places to go than here.  If the place wants to try to be IGN, I'd rather go to IGN because that's what kind of work they've always been doing  What's next?  News and reviews on the upcoming Medal of Honor game?  Strategies on Super Street Fighter IV?  I came to MMORPG.com for indepth, up to date MMORPG information.

You (well most everyone else in this thread)  are talking about advertisements on this website not the content of the website. Do you really get your news and reviews through advertising elsewhere?  I doubt it. Why expect it from here?

No, they are talking about articles on non-MMO games, to which I still reply;

"who gives a f**k?"

Mike can issue a warning if he wants.  Thats the whos cares.  But isnt your closet already teaming with fanboi knee-pads already :)

Is the market for mmorpg's/mmo's really that pathetic where now mmorpg.com has to take advertising for single-player games such as Enslaved, a strategic single-player adventure game?

Honestly, that's not the only non-mmorpg/mmo game rearing it's head on a massively-multiplayer gaming site, but okay, guess it might be better to relaunch a new site such as mmorpg.mmo.rpg.mmog.mmorts.mmosg.mmoccg.rts.fps.anygame.com

Oh yeah and you must have jump and swimming if you dont well epic fail again. Oh and sitting lets not forget sitting, no sitting = epic fail.

Wrong, people like you don't understand how companies work, it's all about the money making. If a MMO is still around (like DAoC or EQ) it's still making money and a succes on its own, does it compare to WoW? No, absolutely not, but they can't even compared and the reasons why they can't be compared are obvious and I won't explain.

I have no idea what DAoC cost to make, but let's estimate the following: $50mil, including the expansions (a lot, considering nowaday triple-A games get double that as production costs). Up to Januari of 2008 they had 50k active subscribers according to wikipedia.

Box price incl. expansion: 50$ (assuming they had at LEAST 50k box purchases)

50.000 x 50 = 2.500.000

Monthly fee of 10$ over 8 years:

12 x 10 x 7 = 840 per subscriber
50.000 x 960 = 42.000.000

So after 7 years of daoc, estimating the lowest possible hypothesis, they made 44.500.000 mil off the game. This obviously excludes maintenance costs, etc.. It also doesnt include the facts that they had 250.000 active subs at their prime and therefore sold more boxes at higher prices and had spike subscription incomes, my hypothesis estimates the lowest possible, it's just to paint an image for the ignorant idiots. Whats my point? Simple, DAoC was pretty good for it's time, players kept buying expansions and playing and it was making money for the developing/publishing company, in other words: A SUCCES.

I can garantee you, that this game is still making money to this day and is considered a succes. DAoC wasn't even nearly as big as other succes MMO's like EQ, Lineage 2, FFXI, LOTRO etc...

NOTE: Above are very rough estimates, somebody with half a brain can understand them.

Wrong.  People like you are failures at most, and you justify it by lowering the bar so much that I'd have to tunnel a hole to achieve any height of success.

Success is largely financial and customer based in NA; its a life lesson and applies to everything.  I'd think for mmorpg games, below 300,000 subscribers post one-year out and sustained is a mediocer success.  300,001-600,000 is successful.  600,001 + is very successful, etc.

Hell ya.  I want all the subscriber folks to continue to subsidize my entertainment.  Thanks for sticking it out the last couple years, subscribers.

Why buy the same game if you already own it?  Isn't that like...a waste of money?

Yes it is.  I'll pass. I already played SC and a new polish on the same game, which this is, doesn't warrent $50+ bucks.
