Star Trek Online.

Three words that could have made an MMO so spectacular that regardless of if you liked Star Trek or not, it would have been a stellar game.

They could have done anything with this game, the diversity of features that would set it apart could have been pheonominal.

Unfortunately Cryptic made it like this and compeltly ruined any chance of having a successful game, it looks terrible!

I've watched as they've taken the possibility of an outstanding and unique game and piece by piece destroyed any hope I had of playing the type of ST:O I'd have wanted to..

Why is every effing MMO that comes out these days really really bad ;/

QQ.

I hate to say it =/ I was a fond follower of this game, played it and also got bored...

it's pretty and fun and stuff but it didn't hold me... total wanted it to aswell... hah

Isn't Mortal Online basically a remake of UO?

Also instead of city of heroes I think Runescape should be there... nexgen runescape playstyle would be intresting to see.

Love and Lust on Telemachus

Nice article, though I was a little put off that Mortal Online wasn't on it, shows some real potential =]

The only thing runescape is good for these days... cross server characters.

Just connected to /gamestore  ... not changed heh

Dead for me too

This article has done one good thing wether you guys like it or not.

It shows that we as a community can go so many pages without flaming each other when presented with an asshole we all have a common hate against.

It's nice to see the amount so far, and yes, if this article isn't taken down there will be more of us... it's nice to see us 'stand up?' to an uneducated and biased staff member.

Nice one guys =]

But still, as an official staff member of this website, I would hope that you would refrain from engaging in such patently obvious prejudicial behavior, or at least acknowledge that you have made some blatant generalizations. I think the article needs a disclaimer at the top stating that its contents are purely subjective if you are going to leave it in place. I expect you to hold yourself to a higher set of standards in contrast to us average posters, and I find your article to be quite disappointing on top of being offensive.

Do you like the cop who abuses his/her powers just because he/she thinks he/she can?

QFT.

Edit:- Kylrathin, many thanks.

I definitely got a reaction out of you all. Mind you while I obviously am not a fan of rp servers I may have been a bit over the top. The goal of this is to incite debate not riots. :)

Dude... your article wasn't "over the top" it was just nasty.

No I'm not an RP'er...

You wern't 'inciting debate' you're just trolling, you got your reaction now fuck off and be happy with yourself that you managed to be venomous to a large group of this site and passed it off as 'journalism'.

This article failed as hard as your game 'wish'. (As someone else stated).

Articles like this should not be featured, writers like this not hired and opinion should not be put across as fact.

[Mod Edit]

I sometimes get those issues, try it in a sifferent browser, usually helps =]

What a horrible uneducated article...

I agree with the person a few posts above on not reading this 'staff members' posts again.

He's done well to generalise an entire community with his (more than likely) 5 minutes on an RP server IF he has even ever been on one.

God... why would they even publish drivel like this?

No wonder he's the former editor, I hope he was fired for his diabolical work.

Jeeze... I find it hilarious he's the PR manager yet he manages to slate a large portion of the community.

This.

Because it's true.

I agree man... I left a while back because they've changed the game from the core thing I played, it's not the game I want to play anymore "/

\       <-- WoW

Arekaine I honestly think you should look into Mortal Online. =]

Not adversing or a fanboy but you might like.

No grind, no forced areas, no instances, no levels.

Borg?

To be honest I always considered the Borg to have a flawed ecology, so much power and so many numbers and yet they dont rule the galaxy?

A sizable force, the likes we saw knocking around in Voyager, would walk through the Federation and the entire Alpha Quadrant, this can be seen in the effectiveness of a single cube versus entire fleets. Sure a few advanced worlds may be able to see off a limited incursion but the Borg need only rape everyone else and then swamp these pockets of resistance to prove their often quoted statement 'resistance is futile'. To introduce the Borg as anything but an NPC bogeyman is to open this flawed ecology to detailed examination... in short I imagine the developers simply cant come up with a set of rationals that would provide what we would expect from the Borg without either unbalancing the game or placing restrictions upon Borg players that would make it less than fun.

Plus as previously mentioned, being a PC drone would need to be very restrictive, you could have specific missions to perform but it would be as a a series of nameless drones (and so assume the role as the whole force rather than as an individual) rather than enjoy the character progression as employed with 'conventional' characters.

The only real answer to that is they might be waiting for other races to advance in technology and discover new things, the borg assimilate and only know what they assimilate and due to their nature to not think for themselves they can only use what they know and not monopolise on that (I think)

if they wait till species are more advanced they learn more

back on topic... I'd love to play as borg, too bad we can't :(

++ the voyager episode Endgame pt2 where Janeway does 'a crippling blow to the borg' is truely awesome.

I used to play this obsessivly from 01-04... why is it on an MMO site, it's more of an avatar chatroom "/

Everytime I get a glance of hope from AV/DF they shift the balance with something devastating... time and time again.

I think it's not right to compare the games and it doesn't give a just sense of either direction, but it's so easy to in a time where they will soon more or less be in direct competition.

In DEV comparison MO is winning hands down, it's undeniable, their engine also dominates, though not as many release features this will hopefully counter too many bugs and as things are implemented gradually, so will bugs and be taken care of more efficiently.

AV need to pull their keyboards out their asses and get some stuff sorted if they want to upkeep any members and charging payed members again for the game is a complete roundabout way of doing it... do they want people to play? Stupid question but they're giving us a stupid answer.

God you're boring.
