Darkfall will be charging North American customers twice
General Discussion « Darkfall 6/29/09 3:13:52 PM
Perhaps the game was/is so good that "If You Bought It Once, Surely You’ll Buy It Again And Again."

I'm gonna give this title a shot since everything I've read and researched about it gives me the impression that it will be more complete, due to it'sdevelopment and prior experience, than many other mainstream and current mmorpg titiles.
Kyl, I dont see it as throwing away money or development on a character, but well invested entertainment and game-play familiarity, if the research on a title looks promising, which to me it really does.
And it seems that there is enough diversity of game-play juxtaposed to existing mmorpg titles and a different game-play mechanic(s) to make it an interesting experience for a bit. Plus, I like to get familiar with a title before commercialization to be able to get past the more early-onset and germane character development to spring-board a bit more efficiently to the more comprehensive game-play usually found past the games' beginning stages.
But for me, for example, I'll play a new mmorpg title for at least 3 months after doing some exploratory looking into and due diligence on. So If that's even the case with Aion being as well diverse in pve/pvp game-play with even a little more breadth and depth of game-play, it's comparatively a minimal outlay of funds for decent, good or great entertainment value when I think about it in terms of either going to an amusement park, going to a bar, taking in some movies in a theater, etc. But that's me. |

I think this game has a real shot at being the biggest MMO in History

Originally posted by AllNewMMOSuk No, I disagree. First, our common ground is that we're looking forward to the game. But, pvp-centric, and I mean a plyer-influenced ecosystem mmorpg's dont attract a majority because of mindless violence and crime themes. Its because such platforms are highly competitive, unsuspecting in game-play, are highly unpredictable because your playing against a dynamic player(s) that might be able to relentless out-play you, where numbers matter and running up against players that outnumber you and your friend or you alone is a losing proposition, and the dynamic of freedom without the safety of a tethered mob that like a dog on a leash will only pursue you so far, etc.
Every mmorpg we'replaying now is violent and most consist of mindlessly redundent events of whacking, rinsing and repeating the same beat-down on the same coded static mobs, or variation of the same mobs, repeatedly game session after game session; for the most part. |

Should Tasos bail like game director, Gaute Godager, of AoC?
General Discussion « Darkfall 6/28/09 11:34:25 PM
Admittedly, AoC was still content-less after 3 months following it's launch last year, as is Darkfall with statically grindtastic game-play. And not too long after that, Age of Conan Producer and Game Director, Gaute Godager, bails probably because he see's it aint going as planned. Now, his replacement, Craig Morrison, hasn't done much better with the reported substantial $ loss coming into this year.
Is Tasos out-performing Godager or Morrison in terms of game-play delivery for their target market, and ability to deliver a product that will garner a sustainable player-base? |

There's absolutely nothing exceltional about being directly told that transfers are allowable, but hide and deceive about the re-purchase of another account or pay similarly to actually transfer.
No one, for the most part, is one step ahead of a scammer, if the target, the purchaser of a product or service for a fee, is lead. . .actually lead to believe in writing that they will be allowed, not 'charged' but 'allowed' to transfer their character to another server. There is nothing exceptional about this. And to top it off, just to make sure the patsy's are had, the scammer dictates at the 11'th hour that there will be one character per "account". . .not one character per "server" as was also once told. |

Im not aware of a mainstream title who's devs aren't actively in hack-prevention mode. And regardless of the title, every game will be hacked. |

Yea, as said, the beta board wil be back up 7/1, so dont be worried. Just get all patched. I'm looking forward to playing this, though I'm not a pve-centric enthusiast. There seems to be a lot of dynamic content and I want to experience how dynamic the pvp will be.
But having said that, there will be beta events every other week or so that those of us that pre-ordered will be able to participate in. |

Aventurine S.A. Athens, Greece Contact Person: Anastasias "Tasos" Flampouras http://www.aventurine.gr/ contact@aventurine.gr
Aventurine S.A. is the creator of an online game called Darkfall Online. The game is hosted on an european server. When Aventurine initially released this game, they stated that North American players would be able to play on the EU server and that they would accomadate their move (account transfer) to the NA (North American) servers when a North American supporter is identified and when such servers were launched. There was no mention or consideration communicated to their purchasers that anything other than a one-time product purchase/account purchase fee would be garnered. Aventurine also told subscribers, that were purchasing a service/product that was promoted to have more than one server to access in the near future, that they (subscribers/account purchasers) would be allowed 1 character per server (not per purchased account). NA players bought the initial game($50) and payed for monthly access($15 per month over 4 months, equalling an additional $60) with the understanding they (subscribers to the service) would be able to transfer to the NA server and take advantage of the product there instead, once launched. Aventurine has just recently announced that NA players who wish to play on the new North Amercian server, since a North American partner has been found, at launch must now buy a new copy of the game (account) and that the game is no longer 1 character per server, but rather 1 character per account. The blatent misleadings by Aventurine S.A., I consider to be a bait and switch tactic. Had this information been clearly stated initially many NA players, myself included, would not have bought the game at all, nor paid for the monthly subscription. Aventurine not only deceived the North American subscriber market, Aventurine S.A has deceptively placed the consumer in a position to purchase their product twice; a second time now that a North American server is opening. Aventurine S.A. clearly changed their single character per server agreement, which is why I initially decided to buy the game, after I had already bought the game and had been paying for multiple months of service.

Get ready to pay more to transfer. In order to transfer, you'll have to be an active subscriber on the EU server, so thats $15 buck there, then pay a transfer fee, and knowing Aventurine, lets say its $50 bucks too.
Then after Aventurine completely botches the transfer, you'll be sitting with nothing anyway. All I can say is good luck to you and your boyfriend in NA. |

I'll wait and see. |

Originally posted by Wizardry I guarantee you there will be zones,it is impossible to do otherwise, without making a real cheap game.In saying that,40 minutes is VERY long,it pretty much gives you an idea the zones may be larger than anything in the giant game[ Vanguard].The average time to travel across a games zone is about 10-20 minutes,so yes 40 is HUGE. This can be a little misleading by stating continent, because a continent can span across more than one zone. Being that the game will have a large contingent for PVP,having a large world is IMO a VERY good thing. Guarantee? Interesting. The devs recently put in writing and in this community presentation,
www.mortalonline.com/forums/10390-power-point-poll-ppp.html
that "Mortal Online features seamless, instance-free continents where you have the freedom to go anywhere without encountering loading times or invisible walls. The first (of 5) continent, Myrland, is 64km2 not counting caves, mines or dungeons."
