Recently bought Guildwars to try it out since I'm hyped with GW2.. Tried to register it to my old account and found out I had been banned.. Figured I must've been hacked as well, though it was ages since I logged in there so I doubt it was a keylogger.. Regardless, since I only have the City of X games there and a few betas I'm honestly not sure if I should be bothered with getting the account back. Whole thing kinda pisses me off though.

However, I admit I am a bit reluctant to cheer just yet... I am holding my breath.. Hoping for the best and holding on tightly. I hope it'll fly, but it might as well crash and burn. |

MMORPG: Many Men Online Role Playing Girls
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 5/06/10 3:42:17 AM
I usually play only male characters though exceptions have happened. First, in SWG I had a female zabrak main - why? Because I thought the male zabraks looked horrible. :P Another time was in AoC where I were leading a RP guild, knowing that most guildies knew I mainly played males I rolled a female alt and even morphed my voice on ventrilo just to left alone. xP Then again, it wasn't only because of this.. I have a strong "trickster" part of my personality and I couldn't, just Couldn't pass up the oppertunity to try and fool my own guild (it was hilarious).
Generally though, as said I play male characters. And like som might've stated the argument used widely is "if I am going to play all day then I'd rather look at a females body than a males". At least it's an explenation I've heard. However, there is one part that I don't think I've seen mentioned (sorry if I missed it) and that is that female gamers Do tend to get special treatment from certain individuals. Especially if they are flirty. Free items, gold etc. Though admitedly very few female gamers take advantage of this - but some do - and I believe some Men roll females to take advantage of this as well. |

Originally posted by erictlewis I learned mine with Champions Online... I really wish STO was.. well.. more? And actually Star Trek.. I Do... I'd almost do anything for a nice Sci-fi MMO with good content atm. since I'm so Utterly bored of all the fantasy games. TOR is perhaps the best hope together with Earthrise (and The Secret World which at least is modern) but I'm stull very sceptical towards these games since so few MMOs actually Are good nowadays..
Read something about Cryptic wanting to include more non-combat missions though, but don't remember where.. Maybe there's hope yet for STO.. Unlikely... But I hope so....
And @OP: Nice writeup.. Sums it up very well imo. |

Anyone know the best EU server as well? :)
And what's better, trying to get a US copy or going with the EU (if you live in the EU)? ^^ Population-wise I mean. :) |

Originally posted by ConjureOne I don't understand how that is relevant to my post? My point is that there probably isn't any company out there that could make a proper STO MMO. And the only one you mention is yet unproven. And that regardless how you twist and turn it, even if you like it, it won't be ideal for everyone. Does any game have 100% good posts? Does any game have 100% satisfied customers? Nope. As I said, Cryptic are far from an ideal company for this considering how they organise their servers and instance their gameplay - but do you really think any Current company could pull off a proper ST MMO? Personally, I don't. |

I'm sorry, but who? If you think about it most MMO companies have an all but flawless reputation and record. NCSoft? Tabula Rasa, Aion etc. Many people would say that they'd be less than ideal especially for a ST MMO. Blizzard? People would say it'd be Star Trek WoW. Etc etc. (sorry, don't have time to write much more at the moment) Even Bioware who you mention have No MMO experience and have yet to prove themselves within the genre with SW: TOR. And even so, considering that they Are already working on a MMO, and a sci-fi at that, I doubt that they'd have the manpower and time to do STO as well. That said, Cyptic is far from ideal, but when -I- look at it, we'd probably have similar responses and/or other gameplay issues than we have now if someone else developed it. Also, the game - whoever develops it - will Never be for everyone. There will always be people that are unhappy and, quite frankly, create shit storms (just as there will always be people defend a game to death). Would we have another game if someone else had developed it? Probably, yes. Would the gameplay appeal to more or make more people pleased? I doubt it. The balance would probably just shift so that those liking it now would dislike it then and vice versa. Just my 2 cent. |

Originally posted by banthis I get you. :) But for me it was the otherway around. ^^ Champions didn't grab me, couldn't hold me, despite that I wanted it to.. STO on the other hand I'm having loads of fun with, and I actually expected it to generally suck donkey. ^^ However, in EVERY aspect of the game there are room for improvements - just like in Any MMO or game - but I'm having loads of fun. :) The skilltree system, even if I haven't checked it out fully yet, seems damn intersting too. ;) I can understand that this isn't everyones cup of tea though. ^^ |

Star Trek Online: Exclusive: Jack Emmert Talks Klingons
News Discussion « General Discussion 12/18/09 4:13:41 AM
I were really looking forward to playing klingons... <.< But now? Heck, if I want monsterplay I'll go LotRO.. Also, it seems that what little PvE there is it's very much in the background and far far from the primary way of progression for Klingons, so by chosing this route they bascily alienate the klingon PvE players. Good job! Good bye! |

So, is NCsoft listening? I don't know but HOLY HELL CHECK THIS OUT!
General Discussion « Aion 11/24/09 8:23:30 AM
I've neem quite far from being an Aion fan... The game just seemed repetative and bland - despite beautiful graphics... but this.... This trailer... if it's happening. I'm there. |

Ever considered that your tone and choice of words might've been... i don't know... a bit Rude? I'm sure you'll say that you "pay for the game" etc etc. but it doesn't mean you can behave any way you like to the staff. If I were they I'd get pissed too, wouldn't you? Perhaps it'd been different if you put it a bit more polite or at the very least differently. Or... I don't know... Ignore that stuff like the rest of us and use the report function if something really bothers you? |

Champions Online: Launch Day Patch Stirs Uproar
News Discussion « General Discussion 9/01/09 5:21:12 PM
I really think people see this as a much bigger deal than it is.. I myself am playing and I have to say some of the nerfs were really needed.. As another dev stated (sorry, I really can't cba looking up the post, if you're interested I'm sure you can find it on their forums) people having certain powers or powersets took on TWICE the amount of mobs intended and just mowed through the game. Personally, I agree though, that they - with that huge amount of change - should've given people free respecs, but at the same time I don't feel the changes that much. Regardless, some of them were needed and like ANY game this game will have powers getting nerfed, buffed and looked over a great number of times. Balancing is never done. I still have a lifetime sub, and I still don't regret it. My only issue with this game is the lag I experience, and I guess that'll be fixed eventually as well. |

There will be micro-transactions but by the looks of it and according to statement it will be mostly cosmetic (i.e. buy new costume parts) and account based (buy more character slots, perhaps namechange as well etc.).. Also said is that any item you can MC that has an ingame effect (yet to be defined what this really is - cosmetic or More?) will be possible to earn ingame too.. IIRC. |
