What happens to us when we grow up? Why do so many people think as soon as you get to old your no longer allowed color things. Yes it look like a cartoon - but I know allot of adults who love Shrek and many other type movies like it.

The target audience for this game is gamers of all ages or at the very least a good chunk of them.

It has violence, crude humor, dark humor and many other things that adults can enjoy.

So no don't think it looks or feels kiddy or aimed for kids.

Are we all not speculating a bit much from a single sentence that seemed to have been made up on the spot as in a fleeting moment?

Honestly I like B2P model similar to GW2. It seems to be working for them well. I also like Pay to Play models.

F2P is a failing system IMO, but that is just me.

Honestly I am not sure why everyone is so gun ho for F2P type models, you have to pay for every other form of entertainment. I get heck of a lot more for 15bucks a month on an online game then I do with a 15 bucks 3d movie at the movie theatre.

Aaah 3d movies the truth rip off if every there was one.

The detail of the models are far beyond even the latest WoW expansion.

Take a moment, look at Mist of Pandara video, then look at Wildstar.

You will see that Wildstar's animations and models are much more detailed.

Yes they share the same "style" but are they dated? No, look at the movement of fingers, and facial expressions - the illusion of weight, bob of hair as the character walks, runs and jumps.

Honestly if you can't get past graphics then you'll miss out and have missed out on a lot of fun games.

Imagine if no one ever tried Minecraft because the graphics looked like Wolfenstien 3D.

All I am saying is, no the graphic engine is not date - it is a style of art.

Similar to how some people enjoy drawing realistic while other prefer anime, abstract to stylized ect ect ect.

AAAND I am rambling.
F2P for a game like this just won't happen maybe I am wrong. But I like the idea of smooth running servers, constant updates and paying people who work for the company. A B2P model certainly could work also, look at Guild Wars. Over all F2P is just silly, someone had to make the models, the coding, the art, the advertising, the sound the well you know the game. They deserve to be payed for their hard work. I don't mind P2p either, it is a very small amount for fun. You have to pay to play golf, go to the movies, pretty much do anything fun. So yeah...lets just stay away from the F2P models...
I agree with all these points. I'd much rather them get the game done then release it in a bad state.

But lets be fair, no matter how polished a MMO is when it is released people now a days will find a reason to complain.

Rift is a good example, very polished, runs fairly well and has a decent amount of content, yet the forums are filled with oh End content is boring, pvp is boring, this class is broken, not enough content ect ect.

Some where players have lost patience, but it still no excuse for a number of games that have been released recently with the amount of bug, unfinished work ect.

I find it interesting how current MMO companies are wrestling with the whole water/swimming concept, SWTOR won't have swimming, Aion didn't have it, ANet is having trouble with getting their underwater movement and combat up to shape or at least it's costing them quite some resources to have it all polished.

EQ had swimming and fighting underwater and it didn't feel as something that hard to do to me.

IMO alot of stuff EQ had was lost over the years. Alot of it was really really good.

Not saying running back to get your corpses.

But having more then one city, more then one faction, able to swim. Even to this days even with the "zones" EQ felt so much more alive and bigger then most games.

I am tried of the two faction stuff! I use to love trying to work my faction up for "one" city in EQ so I could go into it and travel easier.

I dunno maybe I am being silly...

I agree about the EQ style of play. It was fun having so many starting cities most games have not captured that again but in this game two factions makes sense as that the lore Bioware has made for TOR (KOTOR). It really fits unlike what was done with WAR. Never made sense for a lore stand point.

One of the few advantages of being a troll SK in EQ you got your swimming skill up early in the swamp. It would be nice if TOR puts some way for factions to travel to hostile planets (cities in EQ) like EQ had. Yeah you can't come in but there is a tunnel with you faction under the city and you can sneak in.

As far as having swimming in this game it does not really matter if the games plays well. never got the whole swimming in full armor anyway. I remember getting droped in the middle of an ocean in EQ swam for hours until i found an island. nothing on it had to get a GM. Was it fun? not really.

Haha yeah I got that bug a few times once I died had to get a GM to get my body...aah good times. Well two factions make sense you are right StarWars has sorta always been that way. Would just be nice to get some old stuff EQ did right back into the gaming market.

I like it so far.

I won't lie, there is so much borrowed from other games, WoW and Everquest 2 come to my mind. Now that not nessarly a bad thing. If you liked those games you will most likely like this game.

To many people get sucked into the false belief that if it is new and different from what other games did then it "Must" be fun. This is not always true.

The game has some interesting new stuff, but again alot is like the same old same old. But hey I am having fun with it - I buy a game to have fun and the only way you will know if you truelly will like it is to try for yourself.

SWG was a succes for that time!  300k subs is not a failure in my book. And even today many companies would be praying to have that amount of loyal subs.
The problem was, that for SOE and Lucas Arts it was not enough.
The problem was, that WoW released and was more succesful and caused major panic at SOE and LA and caused them to make the jerk reaction called NGE.
As they thought turning SWG into WoW in space would be more succesful. Which ofcourse wasn't!

You are right that 300k subscribers was hardly a failure at that point. However, you conveniently forgot to mention that it was 300k subs and dropping... wherein lies the problem. WoW had just been released and SOE and Lucasarts knew that their game was losing subscribers to the other big players in the market. It was slowly failing and they realized that they HAD to change it to be more in-line with the competition. The NGE came about as a desperate attempt to fix what they perceived to be wrong. The game was not as successful as many of its most vocal fans seem to remember it being.

Before WoW, 300K in the western world was decent, EQ had at least 450K which I think was the most of any MMO game in NA/EU, Lineage in Korea I think had more. After WoW, yes 300K is small to many companies' eyes and today VERY few games holds 300K or more for long, EVE is one of those but other games like AoC and WAR gained so many subs in the first couple months (900K in WAR) then dropped sharply.

Here's an old chart from a few years ago, if anyone thinks they can climb up like WoW did then they're kidding themselves. http://www.mmogchart.com/Chart1.html

To this day, I still never understood why WoW was and is so popular. All they did was take everything from other games. Sure the game was fun and I enjoyed it. Yet still don't see why, maybe they released at the right time when video games became really popular, or when most people knew about the internet. I dunno for some strange reason it is mind boggling.

You know sometimes I wonder if people really want "new" and more they just want something fun.

Everything has already been done, but not everything that has been done was done in a way to make it fun.

People are spouting out oh I am tired of kill this and that quest, then what else will you be doing? Its a game of war your going to be killing something anyway.

I suppose if they made "quest" more like large missions. Course I'd rather see the game be more on line of controling and tatical battles between three factions. This worked very well for Planet Side, but planet side was missing alot of stuff, but also did alot of things right.

Again I am the type to wait and see. Even if they don't make something brand new, or ground breaking as long as they make it "fun" no one is going to care. At least thats how I see it.

I mean we play games for fun right?

Firstly a huge LOL at the picture the thrid guy posted.  Had to get this out of the way.

I would like to add that I do understand people have self-control issues but in essence its your own fault if you can't stop playing a game.  Its not like a chemically induced addiction like nicotine in cigerettes its a mental addiction.  My best advice to someone who is addictted to gaming is to search for something that gives you equal pleasure and focus your efforts on that.  If your too lazy to go out and try new things then you should see a doctor.

I've played my share of MMO's and I still do.  (By my share you can name almost any popular ones and I've tried or subbed to them at least once)  I personnally have no issues going from steadily playing a game to jumping back into real life.  Its all just the mindset being able to have self control,  its your life you control it.  If you want to sit down and play a video game all day so be it.  To you,  its fulfilling the needs your body and mind require, for the rest of us it may seem "stupid" or anti-social but look at your own lives and you can just about take any habit you have and make it your video game.

Yeah and sorry for typo's and crap I'm not a friggin english major

I actually agree, If your not hurting yourself that is. As long as you retain your health I don't see anything wrong with playing video games with your free time. I know people who sit around draw/paint all day because they are artist and they enjoy it.

Contact support.

Thus far I have played since release and have never had my account hacked. So to the above poster, it's not the security that sucks it's the players who can't keep their PC clean or use passwords like 123 and tell it to everybody they know.

sorry but its neither for me. For one..i havent tried to log on in almost 2 years. Secondly, it has never been installed (and still hasnt) on this hard drive. Third...no i dont use easy passwords...i have 6 other mmos i have installed on my comp..not one has ever been compromised. Lastly....this is the 4th time in the last year. everytime my password has been changed. Kinda hard for me to be hacked on my end when the software, logon, or anything has never been on this HD.

Same thing happen to me about three or so years back, I got an email saying my account has been ban for activities I did. The things is I had not touched WoW in forever. To make long story short Blizzard support and they way they want you to unlock got me so fed up I told them to just keep the damn thing locked.

I doubt I will buy WoW again because they can't keep their accounts secure not to mention blizzards ego has grown so large its annoying.

Oh Fippy Darkpaw how I miss your shouting and barking in my youth days. xD
I don't see anything wrong with having a more "open" server. Yes no "check" is 100% perfect and kids will get around it just like how weirdos will get around restrictions. If you ahve two types of servers you reduce the chance IMO of having these things happening. Alot of people like legos and the game has a lot of potential, can you image have a guild and being able to have "guild cities" were you and your guild build things? Also what is an MMO if you cannot properly interact with people?

So if I get the logic correctly.

Man uses female character either because of...

A.) Man has hidden desire to be female

or

B.) Man likes to look at females backside while playing a game.

or

C.) Man could care less its just a game

What I find a little concerning about A, and B is that there are people out there who will correlate ones personality/ behavior with actions in a game.

If I was in the game industry and not a consumer I would find this logic extremely disturbing, because what the gamers themselves are implying is the complete opposite of what those who defend games under the first amendment have been arguing.

That is that games have no impact on ones personality or behavior.

Yes you could demographically standardize gamer personalities, but the implications of what some are suggesting on this thread go way beyond fun.

If you look at this from another perspective, does one roleplaying the dark and evil faction suddenly become more pre disposed to those types of behaviors?

Also if a person, regardless of age, logs on to a video game to pretend they are someone else, to the point where they act it out alone infront of their computer, does that make them any different from a person who uses drugs to escape their reality?

I believe if your are honest with yourself the only difference in the two "actions" is simply acceptance, being one is more socially acceptable than the other.

Should the impact of ones behavior be judged solely on the relevance of its social acceptability? Especially considering the serious flaws present in modern society.

Like you said earlier people are just looking way into this, yet to stay on topic somone once said "Humanity can only take so much reality". Everyone who plays a video game is escaping their reality regardless of what gender their character is, or if it is based of their real-life self.

Games are made for entertainment for us to escape the reality of our lifes, to give us enjoyment from work, school, kids, family or what ever reason we need some down time.

So to say someone is wrong for playing a character that is not their RL gender is like saying your wrong for playing a character because that isn't you. After all no matter how much it looks like you in real-life that pixilated image of a person is just that and not you.

It all truelly boils down to one simple answer, if your having fun and not hurting anyone then in my opinion it is perfectly accepatable to play any gender, any race any way you wish. Just remember in an mmo your are interacting with "people" and what you do does effect them.

You would think people would get tired of this question, really at the end of the day does it "really" matter at all if or if not you play this or that?

No it really doesn't matter, enjoy the game and get on with your life. =P

I have always had a special place for speedsters, so mis-understood.

and FYI Wally West was the best Flash. ;)

Flash would be on top of my list.

I do not mind death penantlies, but there some things that dome with certian ones do bother me.

I do not believe in down-leveling, but lost of experience is fine.

I do not mind droping items, as long as it not exteremly hard to replace.

I do not mind durability lost or items destorying if not repaired, but I do not like item durability degrading for example original item durability was 100, after a few repairs it has become 85 when fully repaired.

There is a fine balance, if it is to harsh then it becomes frustrating, if its too easy it degrades the overall experience of the game. This of course is my opinion.

If done right then the game gets the right amount of challenge with out being stressful. If a game becomes stressfull it no longer fun. The very very very core no matter what type of gamer you are. Your playing that game for fun and in my opinion if you are not well I think your doing something wrong.

Problem with perma-death as stated above, is there ia alot that can go wrong. Not to mention with an MMO you put "alot" of time into your character. So I see very small market of people who are ok with that.

I for one I am not ok with perma death in an MMO, just doesn't belong.
