I think we have all lost it.

There is something serious wrong at the core with the idea of being able to skip content in the blink of an eye.

  • What if you did that with a book? You'd have no idea whats going on.
  • What if you did that with your work/school or job? You'd probably get fired.
  • What if you did that with your health? You probably wouldn't be healthy anymore

You can't just skip things, to be were you want.  Oh I leveled 8 characters to 90 already..Don't want to level anymore. (You have 8 characters why do you need more?)

  • Welp I drive an hour a day, I am tired so I am going take a short cut, and go down a one way road since it be faster!
  • Welp I I've played golf four years, you know what just put me down with par because I know I can do it but rather not swing today.

Welp de blah blah!

 
 

SO I as finally able to scroll to the bottom and all I've seen on this topic is. "No way Wildstar is better" or "No way ESO is better'

Now I was able to beta test ESO and the bottom line was I could not get into it. It looked and sounded like an Elder Scrolls game, but I didn't feel like one. Now does this mean it won't be a successful mmo? No I think it will do just fine.

Yet it lacked to many things to make it feel like Elder Scrolls, not to mention when I notice you can't swim under the water...I am sorry that is just lazy game design.

I can't comment on wildstar - I will most likely play either ESO or Wildstar based on what my friends get.

A MMO is only really as fun based on who you play with...after all that is what an MMO is about....................right?

Honestly this seems to defeat the point of playing a game.

If I was a game designer and I spent months upon months making zones and bosses to only have the higher ups say "Hey lets just let everyone get instant max level so we can make a profit" I'd loose it.

This is only going to hurt the game. It will only help further empty out the zones.

Have we become so lazy that we cannot even play the game anymore?

I don't understand why people get so up in arms about living stories. They are pretty cool, and I never feel bad about missing some and I know I have.

My favorite moment was, when I logged in for the first time and the music began to play. I got a tickle on my neck and a huge feeling of nostalgia of all the Final Fantasy games I grew up with.

I don't think they will stopped it since its more money for them.

Yet the other day I was playing WoW and friend and I did a dungeon to only find the three other people in our random were a multiboxer.

Now IMO that is just plain annoying/rude ect, you could tell because they all followed one person and didn't all attack at the same time and reacted slowly.

 

There are other reasons to hate multiboxing, but who is going to listen? 

My problem with Wushu is, the company who runs the english version and how laggy the game can be at time.

You almost need to be able to offline train once you get strong enough and I've had friends in game who try to get VIP and never get the coins to buy it or takes them weeks to get the issue fixed.

It personal never happen to me and I love the game but the lag and rather shady feel of the company has driven me away from it.

If they fix those two issues I'd be more then happy to play again.

I'd love to see game developers use zones over again for example.

 

You start in zone A:

You go to zone B as a certian level:

Progress to zone C, that then for example leads you back to zone A:

Just one example they could do it.

I don't understand the F2P craze. Honestly my experience shows several things wrong with the model.

The biggest thing I notice is Server stability, most F2P games have issues keeping their servers running smooth and lag free. They are either riddled with lag or always going offline.

The second biggest thing that bugs me is the community, most F2P games could really care less about maintaining a "civil" game. Most likely because they have little to no "support"

Now I am all for free trials, before you even buy the game. But instead of asking why it should go F2P lets ask ourselves why a game shouldn't.

Unlike single player games, MMO require servers, servers require maintenance, maintenance requires people actually perform said maintenance, thus you need to hire people to do said maintenance and you have to pay them.

MMOs also require a almost constant flow of new things to do, people want their MMOs to be growing living worlds. Sure games like GW2 have done a decent job, but no were near as well as a game who has a constant flow of profit.

Also 10-15 bucks a month is little compared to other things we buy, Even if your only play a few hours a day your getting your money's worth. Try going to a movie every day and see how much that cost.

Anyway - they said the game going to be P2P so deal with it people or move on.

What happens to us when we grow up? Why do so many people think as soon as you get to old your no longer allowed color things. Yes it look like a cartoon - but I know allot of adults who love Shrek and many other type movies like it.

The target audience for this game is gamers of all ages or at the very least a good chunk of them.

It has violence, crude humor, dark humor and many other things that adults can enjoy.

So no don't think it looks or feels kiddy or aimed for kids.

Are we all not speculating a bit much from a single sentence that seemed to have been made up on the spot as in a fleeting moment?

Honestly I like B2P model similar to GW2. It seems to be working for them well. I also like Pay to Play models.

F2P is a failing system IMO, but that is just me.

Honestly I am not sure why everyone is so gun ho for F2P type models, you have to pay for every other form of entertainment. I get heck of a lot more for 15bucks a month on an online game then I do with a 15 bucks 3d movie at the movie theatre. 

Aaah 3d movies the truth rip off if every there was one.

The detail of the models are far beyond even the latest WoW expansion.

Take a moment, look at Mist of Pandara video, then look at Wildstar.

You will see that Wildstar's animations and models are much more detailed.

Yes they share the same "style" but are they dated? No, look at the movement of fingers, and facial expressions - the illusion of weight, bob of hair as the character walks, runs and jumps.

Honestly if you can't get past graphics then you'll miss out and have missed out on a lot of fun games.

Imagine if no one ever tried Minecraft because the graphics looked like Wolfenstien 3D.

All I am saying is, no the graphic engine is not date - it is a style of art.

Similar to how some people enjoy drawing realistic while other prefer anime, abstract to stylized ect ect ect.

AAAND I am rambling.
F2P for a game like this just won't happen maybe I am wrong. But I like the idea of smooth running servers, constant updates and paying people who work for the company. A B2P model certainly could work also, look at Guild Wars. Over all F2P is just silly, someone had to make the models, the coding, the art, the advertising, the sound the well you know the game. They deserve to be payed for their hard work. I don't mind P2p either, it is a very small amount for fun. You have to pay to play golf, go to the movies, pretty much do anything fun. So yeah...lets just stay away from the F2P models...
I agree with all these points. I'd much rather them get the game done then release it in a bad state.

But lets be fair, no matter how polished a MMO is when it is released people now a days will find a reason to complain.

Rift is a good example, very polished, runs fairly well and has a decent amount of content, yet the forums are filled with oh End content is boring, pvp is boring, this class is broken, not enough content ect ect.

Some where players have lost patience, but it still no excuse for a number of games that have been released recently with the amount of bug, unfinished work ect.

But having more then one city, more then one faction, able to swim. Even to this days even with the "zones" EQ felt so much more alive and bigger then most games.

 

I am tried of the two faction stuff! I use to love trying to work my faction up for "one" city in EQ so I could go into it and travel easier. 

I dunno maybe I am being silly...

 I agree about the EQ style of play. It was fun having so many starting cities most games have not captured that again but in this game two factions makes sense as that the lore Bioware has made for TOR (KOTOR). It really fits unlike what was done with WAR. Never made sense for a lore stand point.

One of the few advantages of being a troll SK in EQ you got your swimming skill up early in the swamp. It would be nice if TOR puts some way for factions to travel to hostile planets (cities in EQ) like EQ had. Yeah you can't come in but there is a tunnel with you faction under the city and you can sneak in.

As far as having swimming in this game it does not really matter if the games plays well. never got the whole swimming in full armor anyway. I remember getting droped in the middle of an ocean in EQ swam for hours until i found an island. nothing on it had to get a GM. Was it fun? not really. 

 

Haha yeah I got that bug a few times once I died had to get a GM to get my body...aah good times. Well two factions make sense you are right StarWars has sorta always been that way. Would just be nice to get some old stuff EQ did right back into the gaming market.

But having more then one city, more then one faction, able to swim. Even to this days even with the "zones" EQ felt so much more alive and bigger then most games.

 

I am tried of the two faction stuff! I use to love trying to work my faction up for "one" city in EQ so I could go into it and travel easier. 

I dunno maybe I am being silly...

I like it so far.

 

I won't lie, there is so much borrowed from other games, WoW and Everquest 2 come to my mind. Now that not nessarly a bad thing. If you liked those games you will most likely like this game.

To many people get sucked into the false belief that if it is new and different from what other games did then it "Must" be fun. This is not always true.

 

The game has some interesting new stuff, but again alot is like the same old same old. But hey I am having fun with it - I buy a game to have fun and the only way you will know if you truelly will like it is to try for yourself.

You are right that 300k subscribers was hardly a failure at that point. However, you conveniently forgot to mention that it was 300k subs and dropping... wherein lies the problem. WoW had just been released and SOE and Lucasarts knew that their game was losing subscribers to the other big players in the market. It was slowly failing and they realized that they HAD to change it to be more in-line with the competition. The NGE came about as a desperate attempt to fix what they perceived to be wrong. The game was not as successful as many of its most vocal fans seem to remember it being.


Before WoW, 300K in the western world was decent, EQ had at least 450K which I think was the most of any MMO game in NA/EU, Lineage in Korea I think had more. After WoW, yes 300K is small to many companies' eyes and today VERY few games holds 300K or more for long, EVE is one of those but other games like AoC and WAR gained so many subs in the first couple months (900K in WAR) then dropped sharply.

To this day, I still never understood why WoW was and is so popular. All they did was take everything from other games. Sure the game was fun and I enjoyed it. Yet still don't see why, maybe they released at the right time when video games became really popular, or when most people knew about the internet. I dunno for some strange reason it is mind boggling.

You know sometimes I wonder if people really want "new" and more they just want something fun.

 

Everything has already been done, but not everything that has been done was done in a way to make it fun.

 

People are spouting out oh I am tired of kill this and that quest, then what else will you be doing? Its a game of war your going to be killing something anyway.

 

I suppose if they made "quest" more like large missions. Course I'd rather see the game be more on line of controling and tatical battles between three factions. This worked very well for Planet Side, but planet side was missing alot of stuff, but also did alot of things right.

 

Again I am the type to wait and see. Even if they don't make something brand new, or ground breaking as long as they make it "fun" no one is going to care. At least thats how I see it.

I mean we play games for fun right?
