I played lotro to 50 (burglar was lvl 50, all other classes to 10 which is something i do with all mmos to decide my class) so I have a basic feeling of it. It is a great game but mainly because it is so polished I mean there are almost no bugs that I can remember, of course I didnt play until well after launch (one of my rules, that I broke today with AoC lol).

I guess you could call me an old timer ive been around the block with mmos but then again I started at around 15 and im almost 30 now.  Anyway, for some reason lotro could not hold my interest and I feel that it is because they really followed the basic mmo model and it felt very similar to WoW, which of course we all know copied earlier mmos (eq, daoc etc. etc.). Im not saying lotro did not change anything because they did do some things very well and I think it will be around for along time.

So far though my first impression of AoC is that it really is different, and I guess that is what I have been looking for now granted I have not played very much but the combat is different sort of like d&d online but better imo and the quests so far seem really well done. Who knows how im gonna feel after a month it might suck idk but right now im having fun and thats all that matters to me. I still wish I had my pre-cu swg back with some other inovations of next gen mmos added to boot, mainly because i love star wars lol.

Just thought I would let everyone know that based on everything ive read around here and other forums I picked up AoC. Ive been having a good time with it for the last 5hrs atleast, I think the combat is really different and the graphics are great, first time I decapitated someone was pretty damn cool lol.

IMHO this is one of the best launches I have ever seen im really impressed cause AO was horrible, ive played many launches and I told myself I wouldnt anymore but im pleasantly surprised good job funcom.

Thanks for all the replys everyone. Currently I am playing Lotro but im just getting bored of it, unfortuneatly most mmos cant hold me for more then 3 months. My first 3d mmo was Daoc and I played that for quite awhile, you never get that first mmo feeling back though. Besides that the only other mmo that I truly loved was pre-cu SWG but I wont get into what happened there most know already.

Anyway I think I will just check out some reviews and watch the boards for the next couple days and if everything looks good as I have read so far I will pick it up, I dont expect a free trial for a few months.

Most veteran mmoers will understand where im coming from on this.

One of my new rules is to never buy a new mmo without first trying it with a buddy key and/or free trial. So if anyone would be kind enough to send one to arobi@eastlink.ca or pm that would great.

another way I do it is by going to the official forums and seeing how many posts there are and how active they are, this is a great way to see what the community is like and how many players there are. some might disagree but imho it is the best way. before i commit to any game i alway check the forums and participate in some discussion it works wonders.

if anyone has any opinions on this i would love to hear it cause its the best way ive found so far.

Yes its true there is no open beta at all yet. They are in early closed beta. Luckily I got the same email as the poster above and am eventually getting into closed beta.

Yes there is an open beta but not truly open. YOU HAVE TO PAY FILEPLANET TO GET INTO THE OPEN BETA. IF THATS NOT ENOUGH YOU CAN ONLY PLAY TO LVL 13 OUT OF 80 LEVELS!!!

I dont know about you guys but I sure as hell aint paying fileplanet almost 9 bucks to play a buggy open beta to only lvl 13.

Ok I will say this to OP ive played for about 8 hours total. This is the best combat ive played in any mmo but very difficult to master, its going to keep alot of the kiddies away. Like you said I would compare it more to twitch based but I also love how you can side step to not get hit and when you swing you usually hit every mob around you so its like aoe all the time.

im having the same issue and already posted about all I got was everyone telling me to suck it up and to use torrents blah blah. it doesnt matter there are errors on the torrent download too. so looks like i dont get to play the pvp weekend. funcom im very disappointed in you. im not paying to play beta either. im gonna wait till launch and read reviews from nda folks and real reviews from mags and stuff.

for now ill play lotro and vanguard im having fun with both.

yes they are high and it will limit the playerbase for sure. but luckily i meet the recommended specs and should be able to play on atleast medium settings.

OK i have been trying for hours to download the client since i have been accepted with no luck. I keep getting an error on the second file and I absolutely hate that i have to use the stupid gamespot download manager. I have tried so many times with no luck. I am a computer engineer and deal with unix servers mostly that control the stock market but thats neither here nor there.

My point being is that I know what im doing. I really want to participate in the pvp weekend but im getting so frustrated.

Has anyone else had these problems that has been accepted?

I just dont have the time to screw around with this and I might just wait until a month after release which is what I normally do to see the nda people give there reviews as well as the major publications.

If anyone knows of this problem I might try to fix it tommorrow but by then i will miss alot of time since the pvp weekend starts then I might just wait screw it. im so disappointed in gamespot and funcom because I know it is nothing to do with my end.

Anyway flame away if you want to but remember im a frustrated customer and I feel I have every right to feel this way as I have been waiting to try this game for years I have been following it.

lol you must be new here the OP in your name means "original poster" and when people reference op in their replys they are refering to whoever posted first. Ive been on these boards for years but I can see I dont post much im more of a reader.

As far as music im all over the board maybe some metallica, nirvana, i like rap maybe 2pac he has some great poetic lyrics, maybe the beatles or elvis, adult contempo maybe michael buble. I love music and I love every genre except maybe opera. Honestly any band and/or solo artist across all genres I probably have listened to or do listen to them.

Okay I loved pre-CU/NGE SWG most fun I have ever had in an mmo period, and I have played everything from the realm, UO, daoc the list goes on to all major mmos released to date.

I will say that some people stretch the truth when describing pre-CU/NGE SWG, I remember when I would log off and return to find I had lost xp in various skills like camping (for the ranger class i believe at the time) or other skills I had worked hours on to build up on, anyone remember those kind of crazy early game bugs? Eventually I remember a GM made me recreate my character with a new name and basically gave me back all my xp and skills. Some of the bugs still exist to this day like mobs magically walking into walls or rocks and you cant shoot them. So when vets say the game was perfect and all this and that its complete bullshit and they know it.

Right now based on what I have read I would say our only chance at an mmo similar to pre-CU/NGE is Earthrise. Anyone who does not know about this game should check out http://www.play-earthrise.com/. No lvls skill based, and a very interesting setting with a sound pvp idea. Plus it is sci-fi like swg, im hoping that this will be the game I am waiting for as AoC which I will most likely play while I wait looks like more of the same mmo fair we have seen with a few added things much like the other AAA title this year WAR.

I honestly think the screens pretty good maybe not as good as say LotrO or EQ2 but they are acceptable and I would give the game a go if its ever release which we all know how that goes.....
