It really depends on the time of the year to be honest. The game has a heavy ebb and flow effect that you will notice if you play for a time. During the winter monthes the population skyrockets because of the increased time people spend indoors. Eve is extremely time consuming so the winter monthes benefit it. To answers your question more concisely. I think it is an ever growing game but the size of the growth depends on the time of the year as I stated earlier.

 

The latest expansion caused quite a bit of trouble because it was pretty badly thought out / launched. The expansion released walking around in stations. in concept it sounds like an awesome idea. in reality all it let you do was walk around in your captain's quarters which is basicly a small room with a view of your ship. This new feature caused crippling lag in many systems and made some parts of the game near unplayable for some. Many called this "fluff" and unfruitful for the game especially when a large part of the community is unhappy with the current balancing of the game. Moar super caps makes things go boom basicly.

 

Regardless of all this. The game is still really fun and they are slowly improving things.

Could you elaborate about this expansion, why was it poorly thought out did they make game breaking mistakes?

As in the amount of players, or is it losing players? Just out of curiousty. I've been gone for awhile and thinking about coming back.

nope i played everquest and hated it for the harsh debt penalties , It really kept me from enjoying the game when I got 1 shotted by some random creature and had to grind back all my xp. Don't see why death has to be a penalty rather it just be a time sink but not like everquest a  timesink thats fun. Like a spiritual labryinth , puzzle or maze, something more creative then past attempts.

Thanks guys and GT for that wonderful graph, I just thought a tutorial of some kind may come in handy just to speed things up a bit and get into the action of the game. Also so I don't get my ass handed to me by some Super Starship Destroyer when I accidently enter some pvp zone or something lol.

I wanted to know if their are any tutorials around for beginners or videos on youtube that can help you out. I also wanted to know if the game will be to slow for me. I heard people really like this game, but I also heard a lot of it is kind of slow and can get boring looking out at space all the time. I just want some opinions... thanks

Yes I know about patching, I meant to ask basically. Once the initial download off the site finishes, will the rest be done by itself? Thanks anyways guys, I guess i'll just go out and buy it on my way to the movies.

After downloading the AoC client, will it install itself? I want to go to the movies and have it ready to play for when I get back.

So far I've tried a bit of WAR(was good until it dropped off at the 20's) ,Everquest 2 and EVE  though I felt like I was grinding from the getgo to get to the fun part ,WAR  was a bit different, only after I got to the 20's did I feel like I was solo grinding. EVE is a whole different game from what I've played, it has a helpful community to and I'm still trying it out ,though, It seems a little to slow for me. I also tried Guild Wars I had the same feeling as the others. Like I'm going to have to mindlessly do quests and level up to start getting to the fun part, It's to bad they lock out the PvP part for trials,  I'd like to see what that's like. Out of them all AOC was giving me the most fun from the start. With an interesting assortment of  quests, a beautifully rendered world to look at along the way and the PvP mixed in the server gave me some good thrills, fun people to fight or fight with. Unfortunately, after Tortage it started to slow down and gave me that grinding feeling again, turning into a go here do this kind of quest assortment etc. etc., soloing deal. Some ganking attempts did spice it up, but it just wasn't enough.  So far I've looked at most mainstreams, except LOTRO which I'll have to try out. If anyone has any more suggestions, it would be nice thanks! I  also wouldn't care if it isn't so mainstream, as long as it has decent graphics and no cartoonish anime crud thanks! You've all been a great help!

Forgot to mention I played WAR shortly after it's release...

I'm looking for a newer game, that won't make me feel like I'm grinding just to get to the fun part, has a good community and has the adventure feeling of WoW (and obviously action). I was thinking possibly EVE, AoC or possibly even Guild Wars, I've never played any of them. If theres anything else anyone can recommend I'd appreciate it.  Though, I want to know  the opinions of those who have played them to see If I'd like them based on what I like, thanks!

Wait you guys know  that skill advancement combat wise for whatever type of fighter you'll be gets capped very quickly so in the end it will all just rely on whos better.  As for crafting I think its much to complicated to make a macro that works for it and what the guy  above me said.

Where do you see that they are running out of money? They planned to release the game this summer, but they're running behind schedule, which isn't a big surprise among MMOs.

I could tell you someone by name on these boards that thinks they are, but that wouldn't be very nice.

They admitted they were  running low on money and thats why they were selling the game early. Basically asking for help from the community and in return they gave the community beta spots in which they could help them even more.

thanks your the best I saw similiar MBs but I thought they wouldnt work with the processor.

Having a problem finding a motherboard that will support AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition Callisto 3.1GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 80W Dual-Core Processor - Retail on newegg and has sli support as well.

There will be no global chat of any kind except guild chat I hear. The devs are hopeing no global chat will encourage interaction between players.  Its also much more realistic I think they mentioned being able to use magic to communicate as well.
