The races look fine, nothing spectacular, but no glaring issues with them either (like FF11 and 14 did). If races sold games by themselves I would still be playing Allods over any other MMO. The gameplay is what makes this game look good. Skill shots>targeting, a good selection of classes and jobs. Not that its asthetics are bad as it has a good looking world and art style, funny dialogue that should transfer well.

Of coarse I reserve right to make judgements about any game till I play it.

I know this topic has recently become an issues with MMO's due to the debate over 1st person V. 3rd person debate that has come up since ESO announced it was going to have 1st person... However I find that 1st person doesn't always guarantee  gaming experience  that pulls you into the game.

For me I always find it funny that the original WoW had a very strong immersion, this was due to the size and scope of the world and dungeons. Go through LBRS some time, its like a mini zone full of its own lore around every turn. Then take a look at the same game a few years later and you will find a very different game that has little to no immersion.

Immersion is more than just what PoV you look through, its the world the Devs set up for you, how much or little you can interact with it, or the lore behind every tree and monster. Its harder for new games without previous games/books/movies/shows etc to pull off some of these things as they have to give you a world from scratch and get you interested in all those little things.

The only thing I will disagree with is that I believe you do need more than just immersion, a game still needs to be user friendly, fun and over all engaging. The biggest problem with making a game just based on immersion is that really its only as immersive as long as you let it be, once you get to know the familiar setting and pathways it becomes dull and routine.

I think what most people don't realize is that Vt:M is a social based game at its heart, clans like Toreador, Ventrue are the dominant powers and the most feared, while gangrel and brujah are some of the weakest clans.

Also TSW is nothing like WoD, not even on a concept point of view. The only people that might get these ideas confused that they are related are dimwitted corperate types that might help finance the game: So they would be told: "its like the politics of EvE, with the asthetics of TSW, with a unique set of social and physical combat."

I really hope they don't put in Werewolves, at least not from the start, everything gets really messy in WoD the more races you add into a game, so I can only imagine the way the game would play out with other races would just be terrible in a videogame. Plus each race makes humans feel less and less like they are the highest population in the game (which they are supposed to be.)

Plus Werewolves were kinda shottly done in WoD to begin with, since most of the tribes are just weird or pointless and their are way way too many specialities (now choose what moon you were born under, now choose if you were born as a human wolf or metis, now tribe...) Then they had that whole failed attempt at ranking system and powers that had no connection to original werewolves what so ever (because werewolves randomly deal with spirits in their lore.)

They should just make it simple, start off with Cam clans and Caitiff then add in the ability to go Anarch, possibly Independant clans, then in the Expansion add in Sabbot.

This hole lack of auto attack is a lack of polish is pissing me off:

If this was a lack of polish design area no one who played Allods for ANY amount of time said so, in fact most people playing MMO's without an auto attack preffer it without one. Auto attack also makes melee and weapon based (ranger, hunter, and in swtor would of been snipers) boring to play.

You know how many times during WoW I used to hear rogues over talk how good they were and how much mages and locks were just pathetic for not get X dmg on a boss fight? Yea thats because 40% of their dmg was auto attack, while casters were 100% all action that they had to priorties in a fight.

What is fun about auto attacks? so if I just sit their after I start attacking my character will probably do most of the work for me... sure sounds fun.

Crafting should never be a dedicated class or function of a MMO. Its not a end of a means, its a means to an end.

I do support the concept of having it give good or great rewards if you take the time to work with it, and for those of my friends that have been working with the crafting system of swtor have gained really nice upgrades while leveling.

The asthetics will only be an issue if you think the game should have been done with realistic graphics, in which case your an idiot because you don't understand that realistic graphics look worse the longer a game is out. Simple is cleaner.

I found most of the storylines to be fun and enjoyable, and most people seem to agree that are playing the game. I do admit that the game does not really work in a solid end game experience though, which may end up being its down fall. For right now the game highly promotes alts to a degree no other mmo has.

I will never understand the gripes about people needing to be able to wit in chairs and have massive water areas to swim in. It doesn't serve a purpose, you know the last time I swam in a large pool of water? 2 years ago. Why does this needed to be included in swtor or the game is crap? day night cycles? hey I need to know what the server thinks its day or night... cus that matters.

It does have innovation, just not as much and in an area that people on this site think it should be in or as much. I couldn't go back to a MMO with text box questing.

I love the sandboxers on this site:

"sandbox is the future" no, it was the past.

"Player run economies" because that worked out so well for SWG.

"Minecraft cities" which even people admit is not logically possible.

"giant open world pvp" somebody really likes to play I 1v1 your class into the ground beause I suck at teamwork, and have no friends.

"meaningful crafting" ah you want a game where you can sit around and just craft because you don't like raids or pvp.

Like the Original poster even said, this is about Evolution, not revolution. Games that try to Revolution method end up failing because they are doing too much too soon at the same time. You end up ruining certain parts of your game because so many parts of your game are new and can't all have a massive dedication towards perfects soo many unique systems.

But just my opinion, the review was a little high, its a good game, but like he said were reviewing it how it is, not what it will be. I would give it a 8/10, as it loses points for laggy pvp, unfixing UI, bland Guild systems and a few noticable bugs the farther you get towards end game (35+)

Oh and Eff the fact that Same gender romances wern't in the game at launch.

Firefly goes without saying.

Angel: Because the spinoff of Buffy was better than the original, but really anything in the "buffyverse" would work.

Nakita: Really any spy show like Chuck woudl also work, but in general the game is designed so that you have multiple roles and you have to work as a team to complete missions and in pvp fights try to counter the enemies tactics.

Farscape: OMG why hasnt some one done this already. ship combat, a vast amount of unique races, endless planets you can create. Ground and ship exploration.

Heroes/Misfits: Realistic superhero game with sandbox elements.

Lost Girl / Once Upon a Time / Fabels: Twisted versions of modern day fairy tales with Fae like creatures...

Supernatural / Hunter the Reckoning: Sorta like Secret World, only without a bunch of people giving you  orders. You just have to survive and Hunt.

About WoD: It depends, since White-Wolf made the Table top game vague enough so that people can play the game they want to it lends its self to either be a game about horror and moral choices, or angsty teenage crap.

The WoD Trailer for the MMO looked awesome, (very dark and mature) and most of the people that read what they had planned for the game were very intrigued. But alas the game will probably not be coming out till 2016 at this rate. If their was a developer that could pull off the true horror MMO it would be White-Wolf and CCP.

i think it depends on the planet, sure the lack of NPC's making noise is sorta a problem, especially during combat (you hit them with attacks and they don't make any sounds of being hit.) But I find that the other issues your claiming are a little BS.

No ambeint sounds? Dromund Kass has lightning in the background, rain, and you can hear explosions of other peoples attacks going off (even during talking scenes.) I think this depends greatly on the planet; planets with a very hostile environment are going to be much busier than those with a very peaceful atmosphere. (Hutta Vs the Jedi starting world.)

The lack of music is a very known issue of most MMO's, one thing that is good about this game is that music will pick up during boss fights during the storyline, or after you choose a lightside/dark side choice that had a lot of effect on your character. The lack of constant music is one of the reasons many AAA MMO's end up with mods that allow you to control the music, or why most players just end up turning off the sound and playing their own music, its not because they don't like the music in the game, but because it has like 15mins of dead time between the loops.

5 point scales seem to work better, you can always ad decimals if you want to basically use the 10 scale system ( like giving it a 4.5 would be a 9 on a 10 scale.)

The problem with most reviews is that they: 1. don't go deep enough to give a accurate review, 2. only played 1 weekend. 3. either only played 1 class far, or played a bunch of classes very little. 3. people writing reviews don't have the training or skills to write an indepth review even if they have been playing for a long time and played multiple classes since beginning.

Heck, even most critics suck because they are simply out of touch with the population that would want watch or play these games. I would be a terrible critic for fighting games for instance because I only like a rare few of them.

A good critic is like Zero Punctuation; he breaks down all of the games flaws and then states if he over all liked or hated the game, and will even admit that their are certain parts of games he is biased against (multiplayer/online games mostly.)

I love the people who claim that you either hate it or your a "fanboi"

No, there is a 3rd option: I like the game, but it does need work, heck check out the swtor main site forums and you will see that a large amount of people already want some improvements in the game (UI, combat mechanics, etc.) but they still over all like the game and will probably buy it.

The reason that a large group of people seem to think that this site is over run with swtor haters is easily going to be the fact that soo many sandbox MMO players seems to flock to this site, or at least they seem to be the most vocal.

Also this idea that "the world should tell a story, not force fed to you." is utter crap, have you seen the worlds in swtor? Koriban tells a story in its self about the original Sith empire, Dorum Kass tells you the story about how the Sith evolved over the years into a totalitarian state that feels like Nazi Germany in space, almost every world is like this. And for those of you that say that the worlds are too linear, you clearly havnt gotten to tatoonie, where their are large areas of desert to explore (which is why they give you a speeder bike at this point in the game.) and the City planets might be narrow paths, but they have many options on those paths and make you feel like their is more to the planet you cant see.

I played my IA to level 22 (last world I got to play in was tatoonie.) I played several classes to level 10(ish) with the second highest class being my SI which was at level 14.

The game is very fun from a single player perspective: strong storyline, good characters, etc. The gameplay is a little lacking as the game has a lack of Unique resource systems per class (half of the classes are energy based, and are identical in use and recharge rates.)

Some classes feel much stronger at the start while others feel much harder for a long time (Bounter Hunter Vs Agent)

Professions are pretty interesting, no mini game or random stats though, so crafting might feel a little limiting in the end for those of you that call your self "crafters." You gain patterns in two ways: buying them from trainers, or learning them from deconstructing items in to mats. leveling up your professions is also done in 2 ways: random nodes / deconstructing mobs you have just killed (much like WoW skinning.) or sending your companions on short missions (3-9min) where they will collect loot if successful, and can "crit" on a mission to gain double mats, or really good mats. This is nice in case you leave a zone but still havnt fully leveled up your crafting skill to be usable in the next zone.

Quest are 80% of the time fun, everynow and then you end up doing a quest that either: A. doesn't make sense for your character to do, B. you realize is just a badly rewritten WoW quest (go find a bunch of items on the ground and charge them up to give them to some people) Also while most quests don't have a whole lot of effect on the story progression a few in the game radically change your path in the game.

Companions are great, they are more than just pets as they not only have their own gear, but if you make a comment that they don't like they lose influence with you. You can send them to sell grey (junk) items while you are questing (takes 1 min.) or best yet while you are taking a taxi flight point) and of coarse I already said the thing about crafting.

Space combat is just ok, its a mini game and should be treated as such. Its Star fox.

Giving the game a score I gave it a 8/10 for being a beta: It had a few bugs, but nothing really noticable. UI and a few of the character customization options left a bad taste in my mouth though.

I agree 100% about the race issue, but for different reasons:

My problem was with the size options, when it comes to fantasy (including scifi) you need to have races be very differnt, and size is a good way to make the races dramatacially different,. I feel that one of the biggest flaws that they had in Swtor was not making the SIth Pureblood a large race, their ancestors were large, and it feels awkward to have humans and other races be able to have equal sizes to them.

The side of the coin is the lack of a tiny race, while I don't usually play the tiny races in MMOs, (except for Allods) it helps to add a degree of variety to a MMO to have such a race, it states that the possibilities of the many races are great and that even this tiny race cane be a hero.

And don't even get me started on the "Cyborg race," wtf bioware, nice way to add in a race without doing any work.

Space combat is somthing I think most people would have been fine with if they did not add it in the game at all, and just said "we will add it in when we feel we can do it properly." But instead they added in a mini game that doesn't really fit the game and not only cannot be played with others but doesn't have a variety of Roles based on you class. But for right now its probably best to just think of it as a mini game of no real consequence to the rest of the game.

The side missions and the world arcs feel a little less than genuine in swtor. I find it annoying that my Imerpial agent has options to ask for money in every quest. Your the secret police, only if you wanted bribes would you ask for money as the empire should be funding your causes.

That being said I will still end up buying the game as I love the storylines, the combat is good enough, and over all it is the next step in MMO's, (abundance of upgrades in many aspects.) I wouldnt suggest this game for die hard pvpers though, but for those that either are hard core MMO fans that always wanted more of a character storyline that you can make choices in, or those that are new to MMO's but are normally Single player RPG fans.

It depends on what class and AC you pick, for some classes it will be really easy (BH and Trooper are reknown for being the easiest classes in the game.) While others are much more difficult (Smuggler and IA.)

Its a pretty slow leveling for those who actually listen to all the quests.

For those that spacebar through and skip all the side quests and go straight through the class storyline, they will probably end up being max level way before any one else.

This isn't WoW, you don't get incentives for finding the uber fast way to grind out your levels the fastest. So in at least one aspect of the game it is clearly not trying to gain a specific part of the WoW fanbasis.

Acutally you pay less than 15 a month if you buy subscriptions in bulk. I don't know how much they are planning to cheapen it with the year sub model, but even at the 6th month sub option it was only 13 a month. If it went down to 10-11 a month for a year it would definitely be interesting if I was still playing WoW.

Allods is not a good game.

It is a F2P game, in the same sense that WoW is F2P... Sure you can play up to level 20, but after that if you don't start paying you cant play (not effectively at least.)

Allods will cost you more money to play at end game than any P2P game.

I can't say much about LotRO as I havn't tried it.

This really sucks for those of us that got excited by the recent WoD info that has come out.

I hope that CCP will comeback from this, but from an industry outlook its never good to see this type of thing from a company for a few reasons:

1. It indicates short sightedness of the company as a whole (they expected their growth to be bigger than it was.)

2. It means that as a whole the company is going to gain a short term gain, and a long term blow. Also it means that if DUST doesn't do well, CCP may have to canabalize more of its company and focus solely on EVE till CCP can rebound from their loses.

3. Worst of all, nothing bad has happened to CCP, no games have flopped, EVE just didn't continue to grow as fast as they predicted with its recent changes. Personally I feel this is because EVE is a Niche game, a very successful niche game but still niche.

My biggest pet peeve with Quests is those stupid find a bunch of crap on the ground the give them to me... I don't care how nobel the task is, I still feel like manuelabor that a slave, droid, or guy from out side homedepot could have done.

And then in mid quest while killing 2 mobs that were surrounding 5/90 item of supidity you need some ********* decides he needs to jack your crap.
