Star Wars: The Old Republic: BioWare to Make "Some announcements" at Comic-Con

No, I don't think there will be a release date. However, pre-order info and a more concrete release timeframe are both plausible. |

Am... Am I reading this correctly? I thought you played SWG. Is... is it truly possible that a SWG vet is not criticizing TOR? Wait! Not only that! Is... Is it possible for a SWG vet to LOOK FORWARD to TOR? THE UNIVERSE IS UPSIDE DOWN! Unless this was an elaborate troll post. It reeks of exaggeration, so it may be. Either way, I'm surprised. Edit: If you're being truthful, I suggest staying away from the TOR official forums and checking one of the fansites, such as Darth Hater. |

Rift: State of the Game Producer's Letter

Originally posted by Lukain Actually, none of those things had to be in the game at launch. They're called "improvements" for a reason. It's okay if you don't return, but at least it sounds like Trion has their future planned and they have a clear course set, which is important. I wish them the best of luck. |

What number are we on!?!?!?!?!?! Is GW2 out yet!?!?!?!??!?! Oh, yeah. 3568. |

Everyone will be forced to be a tamer in TOR with mass companions all over the place...

Originally posted by Deewe Bullet one: Yes. Bullet two: Yes (and they're involved with crafting). Bullet three: No. You can, it will just be quite difficult; those who wish to challenge themselves or want to boast about something will undoubtedly attempt the game without companions. We have yet to see how difficult it'll be, but I imagine the vast majority - even "soloers" - will concede and keep their companions around. |

I've always disliked the idea of swapping armor/weapons (to an extent; I mean, it's ok if you're sheathing a sword and reaching for a dagger) in combat. |

Hoo boy, you're gonna have fun here. |

Le gasp, that video seems to suggest that the cinematic trailers aren't representative of actual gameplay. THIS IS A TRAVESTY. |

EVE Online: Incarna 1.0.1 Patch Notes Posted
News Discussion « General Discussion 6/28/11 11:35:53 AM
As long as they relegate cash shop items to stuff for your avatar which, if I may remind everyone, did not exist for EIGHT YEARS. The game was fine for all that time, remember? That being said, the EVE playerbase is extremely hostile to any notion of microtransactions, so CCP made quite a statement by including monocles at all. It has obviously backfired, but I think Fearless did far more damage than the Noble Exchange alone. We have a Chicken Little phenomenon right now, but it can't be helped. |

So, SWG ends, CCP the new evil Empire, Xsyon's a bust... what's left for sandbox fans but a barren MMO wasteland?

Originally posted by Abot Last I heard, it was great on paper but horribly implemented (with both performance issues and half-baked gameplay mechanics). Shame, because during development it looked like the next great sandbox. |

CCP Zulu got trolled and responded inappropriately. CCP Zulu apologized. CCP Zulu clarified and made at least a verbal effort to reestablish the trust the playerbase had in the company. Now we'll see what happens after the meeting with the CSM. There's only one thing you shouldn't get your hopes up for: the complete removal of Microtransactions. They're in the game and CCP will keep it that way. However, the prices should be negotiable and items that drastically affect gameplay will not be included. Ever. Even CCP is not that foolish, not when the very mention of the possiblity caused thousands of players to quit. |

These script kiddies shouldn't have targeted gaming companies (besides SOE). Targeting CCP - foolish. Targeting Bethesda - more foolish. TARGETING MINECRAFT? ****ING UNACCEPTABLE! Farewell, Lulz Sec. May you live the rest of your pathetic, miserable lives "for the lulz." See how far it gets you. |

Originally posted by Deewe Where have you been? They had to confirm TOR was an MMO at all because of the thousands of goofballs claiming that it wasn't one, that it was just "single-player with a chatbox LOLOLOL." Now that we've established it is a fully-featured MMO, we've established that it's not too different from - gasp - WoW! Perhaps BioWare is doing that to make it accessible to the majority of MMO players and, more importantly, their other main source of players: Star Wars fans who've never touched an MMO before. The moment they said "heroic" anything, you should've recognized it as a marketing buzzword. Not EVERYTHING in the game will be HEROIC every SECOND because you're playing TOR, which has HEROISM in its VERY DNA!!!! No. There will be heroic combat - but that's only as heroic as you make it. By heroic, we're talking about fast, exciting, powerful. A noob clicker who takes 5 seconds to activate each ability is not going to be any of the above, but an experienced pro would be. There will be heroic quests - but not EVERY quest, because they've admitted they have some of the standard-fare questing, but at least it has some background so you can care about what you're doing and why you're doing it. Using companions isn't the opposite of heroic; in fact, plenty of heroes don't do it alone, and those who do are usually foolish or unrealistic. I think everything else has been covered in this thread already. |

We should fear Lucas Arts and what they might do to TOR..ala SWG
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 6/26/11 8:55:17 AM
Originally posted by eayes Agreed. People now doubt LA and fear they'll shut down TOR if it doesn't do "well", but they kept SWG running far past its prime. Unless TOR completely fails to meet expectations, BioWare suddenly becomes a hated gaming company, and another company decides to make a THIRD Star Wars MMO, TOR has nothing to fear. Even IF a third Star Wars MMO is conceived, there's no reason it couldn't exist alongside TOR (especially if the third MMO goes back to the time period of the classic trilogy). If one MMO is still profitable and someone else wants to make another one, they'll bring in more revenue combined than if LA decides to kill TOR to promote the new game. Let's face it. SWG needs to be put to rest. Almost none of its former players are even interested in TOR - except to attack it - though perhaps its current players are, I wouldn't know. Probably not, if they think their game is being shut down "because of TOR"; saying LA shut it down to prevent attention being taken away from TOR is a bit of a stretch, I think. |

The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 6/26/11 2:16:14 AM
SWG stopped being a sandbox a long time ago, CCP made a terrible decision but there's still time to recover and there will still be tens of thousands playing EVE, Xsyon will be another quiet release that will hopefully do better than, say, Mortal Online, and there are other games like Darkfall and Perpetuum. All that being said, I think pure sandbox advocates should step away from the genre for the next few years, or open their eyes to the hybridization of themeparks and sandboxes that the genre is slowly moving towards and accept it as the new reality. |

They're far from Open Beta, why even discuss the topic? |
|
Originally posted by Dolmong No. Nothing in Fearless, the leaked internal document, is fact, but everyone's treating it as CCP company policy/future plans regardless. Really, it's a combination of factors that is causing so much rage, and poor damage control by CCP has only made things worse. If Incarna had been released without the Noble Exchange (through which players can purchase cosmetic items through a third game currency, Aurum, which is tied to both ISK and PLEX), it would've been much better received. If, in addition, the Captains' Quarters had been made optional, it would've had very little opposition at all. |

Originally posted by Wharg0ul As the Internetz like to say, "/thread." Now let's give our condolences to the soon-to-be-dead SWG and perhaps reminicise about the good times we shared with it. I think we've pretty much come to an agreement as to its demise. |
