Eastern MMOs are becoming "adult" centric
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/06/12 10:54:22 AM
Originally posted by ActionMMORPG Surprised it took someone this many posts to state the obvious. The more nudity you put in the game, the lower the age/intelligence level of the game's audience will be. Make a game complicated and convoluted, and you'll generally have a higher age/intelligence level population. I'm in the camp of "As long as half-naked girls make some sort of sense, I'm okay with it." For instance, if I'm in the middle of an underground prison, I wouldn't be surprised to see some abused female prisoners. But if Slutty McWhore goes out on the street to fight bad guys in her bikini and high heels, I'd laugh my ass off before I'd take her seriously. |

World of WarPlanes: Developers Answer Fan Questions

Originally posted by Ozmodan What if my plane has 8gb of RAM, while yours only has 4? Interesting Q&A. WoT? WoWP? What's next, WoWS (World of WarShips)? |

If there was a Minecraft with Darkfall Online with more complex Eve Online Mechanics it would rule!
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 12/12/11 1:09:34 PM
It's really easy to say "Hey, take this, and this, and this, put em all together, and you'll have the greatest thing since sliced bread!", but... it rarely works out that way. Why not push one of the above mentioned games to move in a direction you think is more suitable - i.e. Darkfall PvP in Minecraft, or building mechanics in EVE? Not saying that will be much more successful, but if you're going to talk out of your ass, point that ass at someone who can institute change. |

I think people immediately assumed the list was the top 5 BEST sandbox games, rather than, as Quizzical said, the 5 SANDIEST sandboxes. Of course, this is a very simple scale in that the more freedom the player has, the sandier it is. However, you'll note that popular sandboxes actually place restrictions on players to keep the game fair and realistic - EVE, SWG, UO - and so this list has nothing to do with a sandbox's quality. |

Richard Garriot talks about the next successor to Ultima Online finally (NOT GARAGE SALE)
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 12/12/11 12:08:24 PM
"'We're going to be building it in tools that would give us the option to go either way [3D or isometric]. But our current assumption is it would be isometric,' he said." Go ahead, alienate a massive chunk of the MMO fanbase. This is 2011. We don't create isometric games, unless it is intentional. This will be nothing more than a nostalgia project for old Ultima fans (and, by the sound of the article, for Richard, too). Oh, but I like how "Ultimate RPG" translates into "Ultima 2" (possibly). |

I'm as tired of the fantasy elf stereotype as the next guy, but we have to keep in mind that a creature which is radically different will not be accepted as an elf; it must be called something else. No, just because it has pointy ears does not make it an elf. A good start would be to find out from which historical mythos the current stereotype developed, then pick a different culture and go from there. |

World of Warcraft: 4.3 Changes Everything
News Discussion « General Discussion 12/05/11 11:11:10 AM
It doesn't seem like that big of an expansion, though, compared to the others. How hard is it to whip up some pandas? |

It's hard because Steam doesn't tell you how many hours you played this year, only how many total, hehe.

Originally posted by Goatgod76 You think you can finish your class story in a month? Give me a break. Look, we all know TOR follows the standard formula closely, and it only has a few unique features that set it apart - the main one, of course, being story. Your class story, the planets' stories, the story of the war, lots of stories. You know what that means? People will play for the stories, or they won't. That's the choice they'll make. For a jaded vet like you, the stories aren't enough to hold interest. For a Star Wars fan who has never touched an MMO before, TOR will probably be the best thing since sliced bread. It's all about perspective. Your endgame concerns may be justified, as not enough players have reached it yet, but the Operations and Warzones seem to be enough content to hold players until the majority of the community hits max level; again, a process that, for the average person, will take longer than a month. Now, to the OP. It seems that you got bored with TOR rather quickly because it felt like "WoW in space." Tell me how someone who has never played an MMO could possibly feel like TOR is "WoW in space?" You're completely discounting the fact that, just as WoW created a massive influx of new players, so will TOR. Come on. BioWare? Star Wars? Kind of famous on their own, but together? Yeah. Again, people will play for the stories, or they won't. However, new MMO players will likely enjoy all of the standard conventions of the genre - questing, crafting, classes, levels, ability-based combat, etc. - while veteran MMO players will simply accept them because they're enjoying the stories. |

You'd figure the website is very important for a web-based game :). I'm impressed, this looks 10x better than the current site. |
