What Do You Like About Raiding / End-Game?

90,000+ americans could die from swine flu this year

Right. I can't believe the OP is actually getting their news from Yahoo! the 90,000 figure is based on H1N1 mutating, which it probably wont do. Avian Flu was supposed to kill 3 billion world wide, (if it mutated), and that didn't happen either. H1N1 is actually more mild than the seasonal flu atm. Don't believe the hype people, they are just trying to sell more flu vaccines! |

Did you EVER like WoW? Why AION appeals to me so much more.
General Discussion « Aion 8/29/09 12:23:27 AM
No, I never liked WoW, but then again, I never liked UO or Everquest either for that matter. As soon as the Devs began sacrificing game-play for graphics the entire genre has been going downhill. Aion will probably follow in these footsteps. Flame away kids. |

Why is MMORPG.com now listing games that aren't MMORPGs?

Here, here. And don't forget, when the term mmo was first coined, it was pretty much used to describe any game that made room for more than the typical 4 player, or if you were lucky, 8 person multi-player game. But who really cares, it's the 'RPG' aspect that is seriously lacking in most games these days. |

wah. wah. wah. Next time try reading the agreement before clicking "I agree". I think it's been said that most games use this model, and I'm glad they do. It makes things much more convenient for most people. There is nothing worse than forgetting to re-subscribe, and then having to wait while your payment is approved before getting back in game. It's not as though you can never unsub if you don't like the game, and usually one makes that decision before they ever have a chance to charge you again. |

If I wanted to talk to people, I wouldn't be playing a mmo, instead I'd go out and hang with my friends. I voted no. |

i read your post, and I'm not recommending it, but it sounds to me like you are describing Guild Wars, and it's only downfall was that you are over playing it. I disagree with all of the recomendations however, as Guild Wars was a very unique game. Perhaps you are waiting for Guild Wars 2 to come out? Beyond that I don't know of a game with low level PvP, a level cap PvP, and an efficient way to find a battle/group. good luck on our search. Now that it is out in NA, what were your thoughts on DF? Oh, I guess I mean that I disagree with the Warhammer replys, cause you already ruled that one out. But i see now that somebody also recommended AoC, which is a game I have not played, so no opinion on that either way. |

EDIT: I was tired, and not thinking clearly during my last post. There are a number of reasons why a person may want to create an Alt. Creating a character with a different race/ alliance combination is just one example that I can think of. Wnating to change you RP back story wwuld be another. I shouldn't have tried to get iside of others' minds. |

I also feel that this response deserves a reply, and I also agree that your comments in this thread are beginning to look like you are being negative on purpose, however You mentioned AO being 8 yrs old, well Ryzom is going on 6 years (my original account is over 5 years old). I would also say, that unlike most games, there is very little, if any need to create alternate or additional characters in Ryzom. If you want to change professions you just DO something else. --> no need to make a new character. I mention this because it means that every person you see on Silan or any other low-level area is indeed a new/ low level character, rather than a perchentage of them being old/ high level characters creating new alts. I would also like to point out that people have informed you more than once that you need to use the "/who" command if you want to know who is in the area with you. Atlas is simply too big, to try and see who is around you. I don't know this for sure, because it has been a while, and I never bothered to check, but I doubt that sitting inside the village, the /who command would even tell you how many people were on Silan, because my guess is that the island is still divided into more than one (I'd guess at least 3) different zones. In your previous post, you admitted being a lower level. Which is totally fine, but it also seems that you may have moved to the mainland for the main purpose of looking for players. I can't know your level, but I'll assume you moved slightly early, or havn't leveled much since your original "couple of weeks" in the game. Well, I created another character so that I could play with my brother as he is also new to the game, and before I ran into my little billing issue (the only reason that I've been here for a week), we were both well on our way to reaching lvl100 in our main fighting skill. As I mentioned in a previous post, Neither of us ever had any trouble finding a group around our skill level for hunting. And I would also mention that my schedule is not exactly compatable with my brother's so often we were both having to find other peole to level with. (unless it was a weekend, when we were 2 looking for more). Again, I'm not criticizing you for not being a higher level, but really, how long do you expect new players to wait around for you to level, if your aren't leveling your character. Yes, you did move to the mainland, but I suspect that your level is realitively low, so how far did you venture?? I doubt at this point you are going to find many players around capitol cities because once you are lvl 50 or so (maybe a little higher), you are easily able to travel to one of the outposts/ other areas to continue leveling. Again, at this point, even using the /who command may not be very helpful because you are no where near a comperable level to those who recently started playing when Ryzom went P2P again. QUESTION: Did you talk to the non-noob that you saw?? If you were the same race, then I would argue that he was a new player, as I can't imagine any vet hanging out in the capitol. From past experiences, I can easily go 4-5 weeks before needing to unload goods into my apartment. (I like to harvest). I only mention this because if I had to guess, this person was also a new player, who didn't seem new to you because you are basically sitting around letting everyone else pass you by. Regardless, you said that while on Silan you did see a few people when you logged both in the morning, and at night. While you didn't say whether these were the same people, assuming you logging in at to different times to check for players at two different TZ's, you have already admitted to "seeing" (again a bad tactic) 5-6 players min playing on that particular day who all must have just created accounts within the previous few days- week maybe. Again, all from only logging in for 10-15 min at a time. If Silan is indeed divided into 3 areas, then we can already triple that number or more. Typically players in the village = crafting or taking a break/ doing nothing, while zones farther away = more players/ people who are leveling thier avitars. How many new players do you expect/ desire, especially from an older title?? Are there 1000's of players joining every day? --> NO, but nobody has ever claimed that there was. Are there new players joining every day? --> If there isn't, I'm certainly seeing a number of new faces everyday more than I could keep track of. But why bother explaining this to you? it seems like you already made up you mind long before replying to any posts here. |

Originally posted by Agricola1 Originally posted by supremeaaron Strange as it sounds agricold I agree. Granted I do stay around on the SGW forums, but thats to hold out that ever smaller hope that SGW will be released I think most people are wondering will another company take up the challenge when CME say what we know the we are broke line. But hey stranger things have happened. Only time can tell and time isn't on SGW's side.
Agreed, only after Whiting is forced to sell up will the opportunity arise for another company to step in. The only thing that can force Whiting is either MGM or he starts losing his own cash on CME, I reckon MGM will be stepping in this summer. I hope to see SGW next year after being developed by a decent company without a galloping meglomaniac at the helm. *** But really, this game was banking on it's IP, and even if SGU is a hit, there is nothing left for this game to feed off of. I think argicola originally posted the link to Gate World's interview with Brad Wright who said it all when he said "It should be happening now, if it were happening." That was April 2, and the official post on the website (posted April 7th) was, imo, a direct response to the Gate World interview, in a lame attempt to try and do some damage control. I would also add that the official forums are not even worth reading anymore, and nobody there seems able to admit that the game has already missed one launch date, as though it was ALWAYS intended to be released in '09. Another date, which would be near impossible to meet at this point, even if they suddenly had another influx of investors. And for those who missed the interview with Stargate's executive producer Brad Wright, here it is again. (Thanks to Agricola1) www.gateworld.net/news/2009/04/wright-talks-stargate-worlds-delay/ p.s., sorry that I was too dumb to quote two seperate posts. |

I have a question, and this seems like the right thread. Does anyone have any idea about how many users logged in to collect the 3M subscriber bonus package thingy? Have they released those numbers in the past? I was just wondering because I think you had 10-14 days to collect the reward and that would be a good indication of how many people log-in regularly. My niece loves the game btw. It made babysitting super easy i must say! =D |

I hear where you are coming from, and just to make it x-tra clear: I wasn't actually calling the jumping people idiots or <insert random insult here> (LOL, I like that BTW), just trying to quote what I've heard people say. But as far as freedom of movement goes, couldn't the same be said about other things too. I don't think I've ever heard someone say "I read the forum and you can't climb up walls so i wont play" or " I got in game and saw people crawling on the ground so I Quit playing. I think the same could be said for swimming or flying too. I almost hate to ask, but in a year or two after people have tried Aion will I be hearing "I read the forums, and you can't fly so I quit" or vise versa? i bring up crawling/ flying/ climbing and swimming because couldn't these also be considered things that would limit or give freedom of movement depending on the POV?? What makes jumping different from swimming or flying or crawling on one's belly? I really just don't understand I guess. Thanks for the comment. |

I didn't mean to imply that jumping was an emote. I'm sorry if I was unclear. I also wasn't looking for ways that jumping can be important in a game, because for obvious reasons, some games require you to jump to get around or even on top of objects. (amongst other things) But on the same note, a game doesn't necessarily need to be designed this way, and I've played many enjoyable games where jumping wasn't needed or required. The question was really why is jumping SO important that people are willing to completely judge an entire game based simply on the presence or absence of jumping. I'm sure the question doesn't even apply to most gamers, but there are those out there who feel the issue is one of, if the the most important issue for game play. I was also wondering where people placed Jumping on such a list. For me, I've always looked at a dozen other things first: Skill balance, community, content amount, price etc. before jumping would come into the picture. I would imagine that the presence of jumping could be positive for some games and a negative for others, and at the same time the absence of jumping could either be positive or negative depending on the game. Can people really make this decision in a matter of minutes or without playing the game even? And if so, how or what is such a decision based on? |

For me, I'll only say that Jumping is not a game maker or breaker. I've played games where you can jump, and that's fine; I just keep a thumb on the space bar. i've also played games where you can't jump, and that's fine by me too; my thumb usually rests on the space-bar either way. I'm asking because I honestly don't understand why this seems to be a very important issue for some people. I've heard people say " I tried game x for 10 minutes and when I found out I couldn't jump, I QUIT". I've also heard people say "I played game x for 10 minutes and all i saw were people hopping arounnd like idiots.. So I QUIT". I'm just curious why this aspect of the game is so important for some people for good or bad, and maybe what makes Jumping more important than something like skill balance, community, gameplay, or story for example. What makes it more important than any other aspect of gameplay for that matter? How does it rank for you? Is Jumping still an issue for some people? |
