Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures: November's Letter from the Game Director
News Discussion « General Discussion 12/01/09 2:34:49 PM
Age of Conan Game Director Craig Morrison addresses the community once again in this month's Letter from the Game Director. In the letter Morrison discusses Conan's upcoming Korean launch, and also reveals some details on the 1.06 update, including news that the update will be hitting test servers this week. From the sounds of it, 1.06 looks to address some of the major issues I had with Conan's balance, namely the disparity between melee vs. range, an issue that often plagues many MMOG's, but was particularly highlighted due to the extra effort required from melee players utilizing combos vs. the traditional combat available to ranged casters. To that end, a number of changes will be coming to level the playing field, including: a sharp reduction in efficiency of crowd control spells, as well as the inability for casters to use stamina potions (finally!). The fact melee had to burn combo-fueling stamina to sprint and catch casters who would then burn stamina, which was otherwise useless to them, to run away always seemed like a glaring oversight. Of course, it sounds like they'll still be able to do this, but at least they won't be able to pot it back! Read the full Letter from the Game Director here. |

Alganon: Now Live! Quest Online President Issues Letter
News Discussion « General Discussion 12/01/09 1:41:37 PM
Despite a short delay, and some controversy centered around the game's uncanny similarities with a certain Blizzard game, Alganon has finally launched! Quest Online President David Allen is celebrating the launch by issuing a new letter thanking his team, and the players for their support, as well as discussing the present and future of Alganon. Allen isn't too shy to admit the game still has some issues, requiring some polishing, bug fixing, and fine tuning; instead he makes clear the team's full commitment to resolving these outstanding issues, "The next few weeks are going to be the toughest as we begin to troubleshoot specific issues and refine the game and server systems." Allen also asks that players be patient with them as they tackle these issues, saying, "Please be patient as we are one of the only independent developers in the industry that has launched a product of this caliber on their own, but our resources are limited compared to a large-scale established company. We rely on working directly with our players to resolve issues that come up. The way it should be." Some light was also shed on Quest Online's plans for the future of Alganon: "There is so much to Alganon and we hope to grow this great game into the grand design we have planned over the next few years. Deities, Crusades, Consignment, Domain Control, PvP, and a ton of other systems are all planned and in the queue; free to all subscribers," Allen said. You can read the full letter here. |

Aion: "Vision" Trailer Not Footage of Patch/Expansion
News Discussion « General Discussion 12/01/09 12:36:37 PM
Sure to disappoint many fans or even onlookers out there hopeful for a reborn Aion, the "Vision" Trailer recently released is not necessarily footage of an upcoming patch or expansion, as Aion Community Manager Sebastian "Ayase" Streiffert explains in a Twitter update, "The vision trailer is not a specific patch/expansion - it's a vision of what we're hoping to get out there in the future." Also, according to another Tweet by Ayase there is currently no ETA for the implementation of any of the features shown in the "Vision" trailer. NCsoft simply wanted to share what they are working on with their fans, Ayase says. |

That'd be the "stylized over exaggeration" I mentioned in the news piece. Pretty much Hyung-tae Kim's trademark. In fact, here are some of Kim's renditions of Street Fighter characters, including Chun-li! :) The Cammy image actually demonstrates his "over exaggeration" style more so than his Chun-li rendition. |

General: Blade & Soul: Full G-Star '09 Trailer
News Discussion « General Discussion 11/30/09 4:05:39 PM
Blade & Soul, NCSoft's next hotly anticipated title was finally, and fully revealed at this year's G-Star exhibition in Korea. Not satisfied with the epic nine minute length of their "Vision" trailer for Aion, Blade & Soul's reveal trailer clocks in at a full 11 minutes in length and shows off the game in all its glory. The trailer reveals four new classes, the Destroyer, the Force Master, the Blade Master, and the Kung Fu Master, as well as four new races, the Gon, the Jin, the Kun, and the Lyn. Blade & Soul features the art style and direction of legendary Korean artist Hyung-tae Kim, who is known to most gamers for his work on the beautiful Magna Carta RPG series. Kim's style is described as a "stylized exaggeration of a character's body" in a recent interview with the artist at IGN, and this is clearly visible in the Blade & Soul trailer revealed today. Blade & Soul will feature fast action gameplay, more akin to a fighting game than your typical sandwich combat found in many traditional MMOG's, and will even include elements of platforming. The game is being designed on Unreal Engine 3, and currently has no set release date, though 2011 is a possibility. An NA/EU localization has not yet been announced.
