Sorry, what you said just didn't make any sense to me. Nobody put a gun to anyone's head (no pun intended) and forced them to purchase permanent weapons or advantage items. I'm very VERY anti-P2W but you can't blame people with bad spending habits on video game companies that offer additional items. That's like people who are overweight trying to sue Wal-Mart for having low food prices. |

Another 6 years + before Xbox 360 gets a successor

I think this is an intentional thing, to put less pressure on them later honestly. I sense something akin to price fixing going on between Sony and Microsoft, really. "Look, this shit's getting expensive (circa 2005) and we can't keep cranking out new consoles and hardware upgrades for video games. Let's cut it back a notch, don't release another one until... say... 10 years from now. Deal? Work on other things in the meantime. Like your network security maybe." |

Originally posted by Sovrath Well actually according to that research, 78% of their consumers were simply uninformed. I agree that gamers are the anomoly, but I don't agree that nongamers should just be ignorant of what's happening. It's a moot point, though, because I do the only thing I can do: I raise hell when bad changes are made, and I completely avoid pay-to-win games and companies known for them. I don't play F2P games anyway (except TF2 now ^^), but unfortunately gaming is a part of my, and my family's (fiancee and her two children all game) downtime. We have lives, but we're also gamers. Now cash shops are being added to subscrption titles on top of the $15 a month, and there are talks of adding in-game advantages to EvE of all games. How long until those in-game advantages hit SW:TOR to cover their massive (I know it's not $300m) budget? How long before WoW's gold coffers need to be upgraded to diamond ones? How long before ArcheAge needs to make some extra cash in the West and add the option to pay to recharge your Labor Point pool? What I'm saying is, this business model is taking over the entire genre. Is it profitable? Yes. Is it destroying the genre as we know it? Well, it's certainly a factor for me. |

Originally posted by Sovrath This is very telling as sooooo many people on forums make the mistake that forums measure the player base. Yet they discovered that 78% of their players didn't go to the forums and only 2% actually posted. If more players (See: 80%+) visited at least the official forum of the MMO they're subscribed to, we could have circumvented so many negative trends in the MMO genre to date. Unfortunately, too many of them just don't care. |

Why in god's name would you want that train wreck still running? SWG died in 2005. Let it die and pray that people get all the useful packets they need collected (already in progress) and some good samaritan leaks the old code when nobody is looking...
Remember remember the 15th of November. |

With 4.2 comming out which class will be the OP class now??
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 6/25/11 12:59:54 PM
Are we talking PvP/PvE? In PvP, are we talking BG or Arena? Overall, I'd say mages w/ Dragonwrath are basically going to be monsters. That on top of the nerf to warriors and DKs is going to make for a "fun" Wizardcleave all over again. I think we'll be seeing some FMage/Spriest/RSham teams rocking the top ranks, and obviously RMP. Basically what I'm saying is if you're a good player you can't go wrong with Mage. Don't play DK, and don't play Moonkin. |

I wish the WvWvW wasn't unlimited. I have a computer that can run almost anything at at least high (if not Ultra) and I know the whole damn thing will fry if I have 3,000 of GW2s characters on my screen at once... They will have to have a feature like Aion to completely hide people, and I despise doing that for obvious reasons. Large-scale battles are great but only if they have a way to handle the stress... which at that kind of level just does not exist. Cap them off at like 100 per team. |

Why don't those looking for a sandbox play this?
General Discussion « Second Life 6/21/11 5:57:13 PM
If you're a skilled builder or scripter you can make lots of cash in SL, but it's by no possible definition a video game. There's nothing about it that can be defined as a game. Sure, there are sims where people run games, but on its own SL is the very definition of a sandbox. My girlfriend actually makes a good deal of money working for a company that makes raceable, breedable horses. Then she spends it all on SL x.x |

I've been playing Global Agenda lately, it's a 3rd Person Shooter (basically Team Fortress 2 in the future) and the only reason to pay is to double up money/XP from missions. The only thing is there are no quests after level 17, so you'll be doing those missions from 18-50 >.< |

Originally posted by MarlonB How would that fit into a pre-industrial setting? Viking shipbuilders didn't have a woodchopping machine set up in the forest, they had all of the villagers cutting logs for days to build the ships with. Castle stone wasn't mined up from an extractor, because they didn't exist. It got carved out of a mountain and dragged home by slaves, peasants, or what have you. Harvesters were great in SWG, but they made sense in SWG. That was a normal circumstance. Here it would be an absolute immersion-breaker. |

There are some games where calling "Clone!" is accurate. ArcheAge is not one of them. This is so far from WoW or EQ2 that I can't even fathom where you drew the conclusion. They're both set with swords and shields? They both have magic? That's about all I can come up with, unless you go with the above posters "They're both MMOs!" |

Just to be clear - current state population wise...
General Discussion « Star Wars Galaxies 6/19/11 1:00:07 PM
You said it yourself. There's a 45 free day thing going. With no MMORPG options that don't suck, why not visit one that's free and you might see some old friends? From what I'm told by some old buddies that came back, there are three populated servers right now and all the others are still totally dead. SOE should just close the rest really. |

take Vanguard away from SOE, they should not own it !
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 6/18/11 3:36:16 PM
SOE only bought Vanguard to kill it. You guys do realize this, yes? It was too good a game and Everquest felt threatened, so they waved the almighty dollar in the right faces and now we have what could have been in the hands of a company no intelligent MMO gamer would ever hand money to. |

I HIGHLY doubt the same people who hacked into the CIA are the same ones that are toying with decade-old video game websites. Unless they're just hacking lesser targets who are less likely to be able to retaliate with legal problems for practice... rofl. |
