But how can 1.7 err 1.3 million paying subs not be a significant revenue generator to not make it a priority?

Because SWTOR never had 1.7 milliojn paying subs or even 1.3 million. I'm guessing it has 400,000 top and sinking fast.

How deliciously ironic it would be if it only had 250,000, the figure SWG had when the Genius of MMORPGs, John Smedley said, 'Let's improve the game with the NGE!'.

The actual numbers are from the independently audited quarterly reports of EA. BTW deliberatly false and misleading statements by insiders of publically traded companies is a crime.

Sorry, all those who cancelled their accounts but still have time remaining are counted in the "active subscriber" numbers. As are those who keep getting free time added on just in time for the reports, rather conveniently I might add.

It is more than easy to hand investors lies disguised as truth with no repercussions. It's called "massaging the books" where I come from.

Yay. More "Metal Maw".

"Oh, look! Here's a video of Metal Maw!"

Months later....

"Oh, look! Here's a video of Metal Maw that looks slightly better!"

Months later...

"Oh, look! Here's a video of Metal Maw that looks a bit better than the last one!"

So far, unless they're changing the name of the game to "Kill Metal Maw Over and Over Online", I predict a flop of gigantic proportions.

And that's only if it doesn't turn out to be total vaporware first.

Star Wars is dead due to lack of forsight from ea/blizzard and the devs using an old engine that limited what they could do and how they could do it.  It also is dead becasue it did not go outside the box, it stayed with the 10 rats, fedex, that we all know too well.

We were all warned but I fell for the hype anyways.

Star Wars is going to be looked at as how not to do an mmo.

What does Blizzard have to do with it?

Funny how Schilling has always stated he's against government in business and especially government bailouts, yet he's looking for R.I.'s government to bail his company out.

Dude is a hypocritical joke.

Joystiq reports that "it appears 38 Studios put up all present and future IP by the company as collateral," meaning that if the studio defaults, the state of Rhode Island will own all of its game assets

Yep, just what I figured. 38 will end up dissolved.

Yep, I still enjoy the game and the number of people on, even late at night, seems consistently up there.

It's because SOE did the F2P implementation of this game right! Unlike the Epic Fail F2P implementation on EverQuest 2. :-/

I pay $50 for a yearly sub to EQ2. Gotta love Wal-Mart 1500 + 500 SC cards + triple Station Cash offers.

Thank God. Harley just isn't Harley without Arleen Sorkin behind her.

I am a long-time fan of Bioware and still hold them in high esteem.  But something went seriously wrong in their macro-design and people are now either unable or unwilling to admit it.

See my previous post! "THE" Bioware no longer exist.

OK ...so it this version of Biowares first MMO. How many developers keep all the same teams forever in the gaming business. Sure..some key figureheads maybe..but the business is transitory at best. Guess what....the Ronald McDonald you see on the commercials isn't the same one from the 1963 or the 70's or last year even. Does this shock anyone?

EAware renamed every EA owned dev house they possiby could "Bioware" to wring every drop of money off the reputation Bioware had before EA. They are running the name into the ground. It'll be time for them to buy up another studio soon so they can hide mediocre devs behind anther reputable name to churn out some more mediocre games after the name "Bioware" is synonymous with "shit". Which is pretty much already here anyway.

Command and Conquer by "Bioware" is a good example coming up. ROFLMAO

I was thinking more of a niche inside a niche.

The world's first sub-niche game. lol

Bold Prediction - The Secret World Will Be Game of The Year.

Seriously? Are you alright, OP? Do you need us to call an ambulance? Because I think you have a concussion from BUMPING YOUR FRIGGIN' HEAD!

Since you're so aghast at his statement, mind saying what you think will be Game of the Year?  Because I don't think it will win, but I do think it belongs in the running from what I've seen.

No need for me to explain why it won't be worthy of GOTY.

Funcom will demonstrate why themselves when they flop the release like the last two mmos they made.

Pre-Order....you are pre-ordering the game before it officially hits the shelves. You are buying the product in advance.

As part of that purchase is access to the betas. Once you played the beta it was the same as taking the product out of the package.

If  I was the credit card company I would cancel your credit card as it is obvious you are not responsible enough to be using one.

Funcom gave you everything they advertised...returning something because you decide you don't like it is the fault of the customer.

Good thing the credit card companies, and most sane non-fanbois, disagree with you.

Tell the credit card company you are returning it because you don't like it. They wont give you your money back. But if you lie and say they didn't give you what they said they were then yes they will do the charge back.

And yes if the credit card company starts to see a trend of charge backs they will cancel your cc for abusing it.

And if a company gets enough people doing charge backs, that company starts getting fined and can even lose the ability to accept that vendors ( MasterCard, VISA, etc. ) card. And it's real easy to tell them the truth. Product does not come out for another month, no product has been released yet, and the person no longer wishes to purchase it when it does release. That's all the CC company needs to hear. Again, CC companies do NOT consider "beta test" to be a valid purchaseable product. Noone pays to test a game.

The company wont get any flack if they aren't doing anything wrong as in this case. Funcom has delivered what they said they would deliver as part of the purchase. The only time Funcom or any other company would get fined is if they were promising one thing and then giving the customer something else. Which is not the case in this scenario. Hence the reaon why the OP isn't getting their money back.

I'll leave you to your beliefs then, as wrong as they may be. I suggest you actually look into how credit card companies work when you get a chance. Final answer: yes, the OP will get his money back.

I have discussed this with my cc company and they have said that they do not do charge backs because the customer decided they didn't like the product. Its not a belief, its a fact.

Now if I lied and said the company didn't deliver as they said they would then yes they would do the charge back.

Uh huh.

I'll humor you.

Call back your credit card company and ask about refunds regarding false advertisement.

"Pre-order The Secret World and receive EXCLUSIVE beta access!"

There is no exclusive beta access. The beta access your pre-order gives you is the same beta access everyone who got invited randomly  ( and for free ), or played the Facebook game to get invited ( for free ) to CB  has.

Their pieced together, hacked to shit version of Heroengine would crumble to dust the second they flipped that "single server" on.

Why are you guys pre-ordering a game just to try it out? There are other ways to get beta access. OP what you are trying to do is basically the same as going to a restaurant and ordering something to eat; eating most of it and saying give me my money back, because I didn't enjoy it :P. The beta was part of the pre-order package if you use it you buy it, that's my motto :P.

So you think that, even though someone may have every intention of buying and subscribing becuase they love what the devs have claimed the game is, they should not have the right to get their money back after being allowed to see ( though beta access ) the game is either not what they were told or is otherwise not what they were expecting? When there has been NO PRODUCT RELEASED therefore there is NO PRODUCT TO SELL?

A pre-order is not a product, it is a promise that there will be a product in the future. You cannot sell a promise, you can only sell a product.

I really can't believe how people are just willing to bend over, grease up, and open wide nowadays.

I just got off the phone with my neice who lives in Woonsocket, R.I.

It is not a pretty picture for 38 Studios there.

The ciizens of R.I. are up in arms about being potentially liable for 112 million and are putting a shit ton of pressure on the governor of R.I.

There's a good chance 38 Studios may cost the governor his job due to a recall over this.

You can imagine, therefore, the pressure the governor is putting on 38 Studios.

I expect Copernicus is dead in the water and 38 Studios will end up dissolved and sold off to ease the debt burden the citizens of R.I. will have to pay for.

Edit: I also expect no other game developers will enjoy public funding in R.I. ever again.

Good job, Mr. Schilling.

Next time, don't quit your overpayed day job and stick to what you know.

First off, the FAQ on their page told you, that if you're using your preorder to access the beta then you'll be charged, as you've activated the code.

Secondly, you could've gained access to the beta-weekends either through taking part in the Secret War or by getting a free key from another site.

Last but not least, I think that it's unethical to preorder a game to access beta and then do a refund.

With all that said, I'm glad that you've to bite the bullet.

And i'm glad he doesn't.

A "beta" is not considered a "product" under credit card agencies rules.

A beta is a test, not a released product. As such, it is refundable regardless of what Funcom or any other company tries to do on their own end in regards to their "rules".

If he'd played AFTER release and then tried to do a charge back/refund, THAT would be "unethical" and he would not be allowed ( unless he can show proof that the product was irrefuteably different than what he was promised or massively broken such as when people got refunds for Vanguard, Darkfall, and other beyond shitty releases ).

Until Funcom actually ships/releases a "complete" ( as in out of testing phases and released as a 'ready for consumption" product ) product, anything they do to try to deny refunds is null and void. One day, Funcom will realize tricks they use in Norway will not fly in the U.S. and other parts of the globe.
