If I've learned anything about PC nerds.... its that they absolutely HATE it when someone posts about a program that "fixes" their PC.

PC nerds want to fix their own PCs and can't stand the notion that something exits that could potentially do a better job.

I'd have no problem with them posting an ad for a tool that can do a better job optimizing my system than I can.

When they advertise one, let me know.

And the "500k to break even, 1M to be profitable but nothing to write home about" and "wouldn't have developed SWTOR if they didn't expect 1M subs" are all in the reports. (They didn't say how long they would need 1M subs but the concensus appeared to be about 2 years depending on the number of subs, sales, advertising, number of free months given away etc.)

Do you mind to provide a link and quote?

Google is such a hard tool to use for those who wish not to find:

That was me that made the comment a number of different times. What I basically said is 0.5 million subs, we could break even at the margin. 1 million subs would be
meaningfully profitable, but nothing to write home about.
It certainly would not make us feel good about the investments to date. It would simply be a good business on
an ongoing basis.

And then, from there as we scale, the business gets to be very attractive.

Someone should remind that schmuck that KoA only sold 330k in it's first month and has sold trickles since then.

Schilling’s firm may get more aid

http://www.boston.com/businessupdates/2012/05/18/facebook-curt-schilling-denies-paid-himself-back-with-money-thanks-supporters-ailing-studios-video-game-company/cfmCzT1AuMiqH1Nx0WlJuM/story.html

Chafee said 38 Studios did make the $1.1 million payment on Friday, potentially clearing the way for the firm to receive millions of dollars in additional aid under the state’s film tax credit program, which is open to video game companies.

Under the program, video game companies can seek reimbursement for up to one-quarter of their expenses in the form of state tax credits, which companies can then sell to other firms for cash. Chafee indicated the company appears to be eligible for $2.1 million in tax credits for 2011.

On Friday, 38 Studios applied for an additional $6.5 million in tax credits for the same year, which the state is now reviewing. The company has also indicated it may seek another $12 million in state tax credits for the year 2012.

If Chafee and the other state bozo's let them have that aid, R.I. taxpayers should start demanding recalls and/or resignations.

Then please be so kind and show me there. I and I bet everyone else would really love to play a game with this amount of thought put into the graphical design of the world and this exact style of the world. Sorry but can't think of even a single mmo that has this kind of art style or the overall feel the whole package gives off so far.
WoW and Perfect World are the two with similar art styles that pop right into my mind within seconds. I'm thinking you need to take those rose colored glasses off for a minute.

I am sorry but this looks nothing like those games.

Well, then it looks like KoA.

Which looks like WoW.

I am considering dropping LotRO to play this.  (No trolling please as to either game.)   However, I have no idea what the problem is with lock boxes since I have no idea what a lock box is.  So, what is a lock box?

Basically, you buy a box that *might* have an item in it.

The architecture is fabulous.  I wish they hadn't decided to go with the typical "High Fantasy" super saturated color scheme.  Some of the close up shots revealed textures that definitely reminded me of Blizzard's style.  The lore for the game so far seem rather gritty, yet the graphical theme is anything but gritty.

Yep, same as Amular. Makes me wonder if McFarlan is cashing checks for doing nothing, because I see nothing of his style anywhere in either game.

they probably showed that to the RI politicians to get theyre stay of execusion. Looks really nice. Now just stick in the characters doing the shitty kill 10 of X quests and you got yourself another flash-in-the-pan mmo.

Chances are they already alienated many of those who might have bought it by releasing  KOA. I know after playing it myself, I want nothing more to do with Copernicus or any other game they come out with.

The only development from here on out will be to convert it to a free-to-play game with legacy/planet/story unlocks and purple crystals in a cash shop.

that wont happen EA dont do F2P

SWTOR will end up like WAR.  Still pay a sub, have a cash shop with P2W items to "moneytize" the loyal fans, don't bother employing many CSRs and let cheats run rife, have a skeleton crew of like 3 pimply youths to reboot servers when things go wrong and fix only really really really serious bugs,  Also if stuff aint working right, remove it from the game or "depreciate" it rathr than trying to fix it.  This is the future, getting royaly EA'd.

http://iqu.com/blog/ea-evp-f2p-games-will-sell-themselves

It's not going to be a "modern" mmo. It's going to be the same formula we've seen since 2004, except with even less faetures.

No offence to any of them but I am no fan of RipperX or Pokket, RipperX's voice goes through me, sounds like a cheap radio DJ and well pokket is rolled out for eye candy any nothing more, kind of like the girl who presents the curse video's.

I actually like when Pokket does interviews. Mainly because she knows when to keep quiet and let the person she's interviewing talk. That alone makes her better than about 75% of video game reporters. I'll agree that she's not too hard on the eyes as well. I think you guys are selling her a bit short though. She does a good job at what she's trying to do.

Bren

Nah, I gotta agree fully with expresso on this one.

SWTOR is not dead.  To call it dead is just silly.  However, it's clearly not the success they wanted or what it SHOULD/could have been.

You've got the world's biggest IP that's been mishandled twice now.

The first time, the concepts were mostly solid but the tech wasn't quite up to par and the game was simply not really ready yet... then of course the terrible decision by Lucas camp (that's right, it wasn't SOE's decision they just take the heat for the changes they made) which pretty much destroyed the players the game did manage to attract.

Now we have SWTOR which is essentially a single player game with multiplayer MMOG mechanics.

I feel that while both have their merits for sure, neither has really hit what Star Wars fans want the most.  If you took the BEST philosophies and designs of both, updated to suit modern and future gameplay, you'd be on the right track for a Star Wars MMORPG.

You're the one I feel the sorriest for ( and not in a mean way lol ).

I remember how excited you were when you were "vindicated" when SW:ToR was finally announced after years of you swearing tooth and nail it was happening regardless of the naysayers ( including myself ). I don't think anyone was looking forward to it as bad as you were. I really wish EAware hadn't fucked it all up, if for nothing else than you could enjoy the game you hoped and championed for.

What a shame this is. was very hopfull for 38 and what was to come. dont know how there ganna get out of this one.

Personally, if I was the Governor of R.I., I'd call Schilling to my office and tell him the following:

"The person who knowingly give a check for $1.1 million dollars with full knowledge that it was worth less than the paper it was written on is either a.) a complete and total idiot or b.) an arrogant ass who doesn't take his debt to Rhode Island taxpayers seriously. Which one are you, Mr. Schilling?"

This game is to mmos what RipperX is to game reviewers.

Under-qualified, over-rated, and lacking in every possible way.

But how can 1.7 err 1.3 million paying subs not be a significant revenue generator to not make it a priority?

Because SWTOR never had 1.7 milliojn paying subs or even 1.3 million. I'm guessing it has 400,000 top and sinking fast.

How deliciously ironic it would be if it only had 250,000, the figure SWG had when the Genius of MMORPGs, John Smedley said, 'Let's improve the game with the NGE!'.

The actual numbers are from the independently audited quarterly reports of EA. BTW deliberatly false and misleading statements by insiders of publically traded companies is a crime.

Sorry, all those who cancelled their accounts but still have time remaining are counted in the "active subscriber" numbers. As are those who keep getting free time added on just in time for the reports, rather conveniently I might add.

It is more than easy to hand investors lies disguised as truth with no repercussions. It's called "massaging the books" where I come from.

I am sorry you do not understand. Financial statements are AUDITED by INDEPENDENT accountants to give assurances that the books have not been "massaged

".

And I am sorry that you don't understand that those "independent auditors" get fooled  every day by giant corporations like EA.

Counting cancelled subs with time remaining and counting accounts with free time added as "active subscribers" is unethical. But it is not illegal. They can't be held liable by those "independent auditors" or their investors because they are stating the 'truth": those are all active subscriptions per EA's policies. Regardless of what the real truth under the "truth" may be.

I didn't know anyone still gave a shit what Cryptic is or isn't concerned with?

It's not like I look in the bowl before flushing and ask my turd if it has any concerns.
