Will PS3 allow Voice Com of some sort?
General Discussion « Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn 1/28/10 8:05:49 PM
Originally posted by zanfire like in FFXI, there is the auto-translate feature. It's not the most effective way to talk with people from other regions, but it does help to get basic points by. The fact that we are playing on mixed servers and the fact that its cross platform (one being a microsoft and the other Sony based product) doesn't make putting in voice communication easy to do. I think 80%+ people don't mind using outside means to talk, liek skype, vent, or private chat on PSN. I actually did a poll in the past it was 60/50 for voice chat across platforms. True this is only a reflection of MMORPG.com views, but you saying "I think 80+% of people dont mind using outside means..." is coming right outta your backend, so just dont even say it.... and then someone went and agreed... I just don't get it... people tossing random numbers around and then others saying "yah 80 percent, that sounds about right to me too". [Mod Edit] |

Will PS3 allow Voice Com of some sort?
General Discussion « Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn 1/27/10 4:18:21 PM
I created a poll awhile ago; about 60 percent of potential players would like in-game voice communication, that would allow all guild members to speak to each other regardless of console or PC. It is unfortunate that so many people who voted against in game chat, did so because they will be using Vent. You'd think they would want that possible benefit for other FF14 players. Will we get it? Right now SE is saying no. I think it would be nice. Allowing both the console and PC users to benefit from chat amongst themselves, instead of only those with access to a computer (and for console users a computer near their TV and console). For a game hoping to promote cross console play, I would have expected an in-game voice guild chat system, as the benefits of voice chat are becoming quite clear with MMOs. |

They will have pvp like they did in FF11. Not open pvp like they have in WOW. No amount of player maoning and whining will chnage this.
Of course after 3 months all those moaning and whining WoW players will hopefully have left. |

I hope this is as comprehensive and well made as FF11. If it is; then it will be the one for me, untill SE makes their next MMO. I am no longer playing FF11 only because things kept interupting my playing of it and I lost friends and the connection I had to it. They should also add some servers together.. but they prolly won't now that FF14 is coming, or untill it is released. |

SE has worked on the port but they are experiencing difficulties with MIcrosoft in regards to Xbox Live. Of course FF11 is on the 360 so it is interesting that 14 is experiencing difficulties. MAYbeit is the amount of bandwidth SE is asking for in order to get the FPS they have as a goal. Also I have no idea but I am sure money is involved somewhere in regards to the Live Silver/Gold accounts etc, maybe SE thinks that if they allow Xbox to have the game the LIve subscription fee will hamper the likelihood of Xbots choosing to subscribe t FF14. Good riddance in my opinion, I find there to be a difference in the playerbase of the two consoles. I liken the Xbots to trigger happy WoW players... so the later they get it the better... if ever. |

POLL: In your opinion has WoW's effect on the MMOG genre been overridingly positive or negative?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 11/23/09 10:35:08 AM
Disclaimer; This is not a troll, I am simply curious what the numbers look like on MMORPG.com . If it was a troll I would not have made it a poll. Everyone please feel free to merely cast your vote and not make a comment if you wish.
Do you think, taking into consideration all arguements, that WoW's effect on the MMOG genre has been more positive or more negative?
Edit: Intentional or otherwise. |

Unless its Diffrent areas/Zones. Both cannot Exist next to each other because there would be no point for people in Groups, Or it would screw the Solo people because they would just Agrro all the good/ Quest/ High value Mobs and leave you nothing, or the crap thats Either to hard to kill so isent good Exp/hour, Or isent worth killing because its a gnat. So while I guess in a Zone game you could make it Zone "A" is Solo, Zone "B" is Group, they can NEVER exist peacefully in the same area. Lots of MMO's to Prove this point. All indications are that Guildleves are what they want you to use to "level" in FFXIV and that they'll scale with party size. So you certainly can do both (hmph, sometimes I think I'm the only one who reads what the Devs are saying about the game).
I think its hilarious that you think you can understand what SE is currently saying about the game.
Personally I do not know why they bother saying half the stuff they say. It is often contradictory or extremely vague... So yah Drachasor, maybe you are the only one listening because everyone else has the common sense to stop listening when the words are no longer comprehensible.
"All indications"- the amount of times you have posted on these boards with your complete faith that the simple and vague statements SE has made about their game somehow back up your beliefs and opnions is mad ...If I had a penny for each time I'd be able to buy SE and make sure FF14 the true succesor to the original FF11.
We know next to nothing from what SE has said. Economics is a much better tool, I think, to use to dicern what SE might do with FF14. And right now Blizzard is writing the Economics books... so it is far safer to say that SE is readind and rereading that book with the intent to use what they learn in FF14, then to try and decipher the words of SE's PR and make claims or opinions based on those translations... Might as well take up learning Ancient Greek and put all that effort to productive use.

There's a lot wrong with that post. First... No one "forces you to sit down and talk" when you're partied, nor even when a group is coming together. It happens naturally. Second, in 6+ years playing FFXI, I can think of maybe 3 times I was in a party when no one really talked - and it was primarily Japanese players who didn't know English. It simply didn't happen. Third... Again, the problem of groups coming together is too often mischaracterized and/or exaggerated. Could parties be difficult to assemble at times? Absolutely. However, many times people have complained about sitting around waiting for an invite, there were enough people seeking to fill out a few parties in Lower Jeuno alone. The reason they didn't come together is because every one of them was sitting around waiting for someone else to invite them. Again, it bugs me when I see people take such a narrow view toward things and always assume it's the developer's/game's fault without stopping and looking at what *they're* doing. A classic example is people complaining about how FFXI is nothing but a level grind and there's nothing else to do. You ask them:

If they make It heavy solo gameplay and solo centric

In regards to the highlighted part. -> That is the idea, alienate those who would not want to take part in a community environment. If a person wants to play an RPG all the power to them, however an MMORPG is supposed to require group and community effort on multiple levels to create the semblance of a real world. Not just raids my friend.
So if you cannot learn to take part and interact with others in order to further yourelf in the game then you will not further yourself in the game. This means grouping with people, having people assist you with quests and assisting them(so your rep is good), buying and selling from an auction and sometimes from bazaars, and even sometimes changing your job to fita need so you can get the level you want faster, or sucking it up if that choice is not something you can go for. In FF11 now there are often healers waiting for a party and DD is hard to find so now all those people who wanted to be DD can get invites much faster.
If a game panders to the solo crowd then its community will suffer. If SE thinks it can attract enough of the solo crowd then it may do this and care little about the community built because they will be bringing in money. However, good luck to them, the market is saturated and will only continue to be saturated with WOW-chasers. Its funny you keep bringing up a 9 year old game and saying- "Look its hard and grouping was forced thats why its numbers suck". Its numbers do not suck in general and its nine years old. So many people wont play it because it is old or they havent heard of it. If FF14 was just a new FF11 with updated graphics quests jobs etc... they would do great and have longevity in their playerbase (something FF11 has consistently had).

SE has their hands full trying to pander to the WOW crowd and keep a semblance of what makes a Final Fantasy game. Personally as a WOW expansion is in the works and people coming from WOW tend to like nothing much aside from WOW and are IN-and-OUT of MMOGS in a matter of weeks, I do not see SE making inroads with this demographic no matter how easy they make their game. LOL Take into consideration that soon after SE releases FF14 Blizzard is making a new MMOG, I think SE will have a hard time holding on to many of the WoW crowd at all. LOL ... and if they make their game too WOW-like and not grindy enough, difficult and group oriented they will lose their FF11 and Japanese fanbase in large quantities. SE is definitely in a tight spot, in my opinion. Since money is the main focus of an MMOG developer we will see many WOW like principles and aspects at play in FF14... It just stands to reason... So the question is, can SE make these aspects fit in the Final Fantasy genre and can they make them more enjoyable then WOW, any expansions WOW might make and any new MMO Blizzard might make. Personally I think SE should stick the the games dynamics and mechanics they know best and not try and chase the crazy WOW dragon, I don't know that they can compete with it on a level playing field.
Im playing FF2 btw, and I love the skill based system. |

Beta key for FFXIV if you buy FFXIII
General Discussion « Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn 11/06/09 10:18:04 PM
This is probably true and it will be just Japan. I see it as a perfect way for SE to beta test, first only FF fans will get the code. Then only Japanese(and they said they will do a small Japanese test first). And lastly it will still only be PC probably, which means only Japanese FF fans with PCs. A good sized group for their testing.
Or it could be PS3 beta key which will also be in the NA release and it will only be used for stress testing.
Who knows, who cares. I gave up on beta'ing FF14 long time ago. They will be in-country-ing most of it. |

The character models arn't cool looking enough
General Discussion « Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn 11/06/09 10:08:31 AM
Personally I see things like Evolith and the promised equipment dye(which will probably be restricted to keep within the aesthetics of FF14) as enough to remedy people being similar in stats and appearances, even if they could choose between multiple pieces of equipment, which was more the case at max. Untill max, there was often much more of a "right way to play" feeling to equipment, but then again that permeates MMOGs entirely anyways...

Good PvP seldom exists Herny. What you meant to say was "FF14 is not being made with the possibility to PK and gank" and this is true. SE will add PvP aspects , and they will mesh with the world and probably have benefits and rewards that are applicable in the PvE environment- Can you believe it?!?!! I know right? PvP that has some deeper meaning then ganking/PK'ing AND gives benefits that tie in to the PvE that SE is going to make so thrilling. You know how I know this? I know you are dying to find out... because they did it in FF11.There were many PvP experiences in FF11, though different in nature then pure hack and slash opponent, that gave you rewards for the experience that blended with the worlds story and were usefull.
SE knows how to make quality and they are going to focus on making a great game where PvP dynamics do not creat a world riddled with gankers and the ganked. Even L2 I have heard was often full of merely large groups of people looking for smaller groups or solo'ers to kill, though they had other aspects to their PvP.
Anywho, I was more concerned with how similar some things in Tera looked to FF14. But the gaming industry is all about adding aspects that were successful in other games to your game and making them your own (though FF14 isnt even finished yet and thats whats disconcerting) . I am sure Tera will be its own experience. I may even have to take part. Make ma a high level char and go looking for Herny so I can gank him :P |
|
|
The textures and graphics for Tera remind me of the look of FF14. I am hoping the similarities end there. Mostly because I don't want to feel conflicted between FF14 and any other game. But also because "idea theft" is cheap and I hope SE is keeping there best talent and ideas (ie cards) close to their chest. |
