I played the first month of the EU release and beta.  I quit a few weeks after launch.

I resubbed recently and have witnessed many improvements along with great communication from the devs.  Darkfall is getting better as time goes by - ala EVE.

Keep up the good work AV.

The OP is right.  Hopefully TOR or FF14 does us good.

Finally, after all these years, MMORPGs are changing.

CCP is the new King of MMORPGs if they pull this off successfully.  I think MMORPG would be an outdated term actually.

Great innovation, CCP.  Proud to be a member of your community these last few years.

God you guys take this shit too serious.  It's a VIDEO GAME - let me say it one more time.  VIDEO GAME.

This thread segued into a conversation about human sociology and the challenges of being a young person seeking entry into an adult group. Helpful advice was offered to the original poster.

A group of people interacting with each other while playing a video game is still, essentially, a group of people interacting with each other. That they are playing a VIDEO GAME is of secondary concern in this context.

(It's ironic that I had to take someone to school in this thread.)

!!

I have work to be serious.  I better not have to be serious with my free time.

And MikeB, don't let the community here scare you away.  Nothing is wrong with having a fun thread of speculation about a game the community is dying to play.

I believe what people are a bit peeved about is that this isn't just a "fun thread", its being misrepresented as gaming news. Were it not posted as a news item, I certainly wouldn't care, but as it stands I just don't see the relevance.

I can understand that, but being around this site so long I've gotten used to the "gaming news" section being more like "editorial posts and gaming news".  :)

Just an idea, but if you're going to disagree with my picks you might want to suggest some alternatives yourself. Let's make this fun for both parties. You get to beat on me, and I get to learn how stupid I was for not thinking of the class suggestions you all come up with.

I'm not saying this to be snide, I'm genuinely curious to know what ideas you all have for classes as well.

P.S. This response isn't directed towards anyone in particular, I'm just tossing it out there.

In my opinion, atleast I hope so, all of the Jedi/Sith "advanced" classes will be apart of how your character progresses story-line wise and how you've spent your tree points (ala KOTOR).  As one of the above posters tried to mock you for suggesting they would have a Politician class, I personally love the idea.  Politicans will just have better support from their group and as you have stated, perhaps being able to have more companions, such as bodyguards.  The other class that has a good chance is Slicer.  If anyone is familiar with MUDs and and the SWR code-base they would know that Slicers (and Politicians) are a very popular choice in those games.  Slicers can behave like hackers, but have superior power when it comes to converting droids to do their bidding.

And MikeB, don't let the community here get under your skin.  Nothing is wrong with having a fun thread of speculation about a game the community is dying to play.

The thread was started in December, not a whole year ago and with the recent events regarding Matrix Online being shut down it's actually well worth digging out.

It's just a question of time, when SWG and Planetside will follow. But I wouldn't be surprised, if SWG and Planetside get shutdown until the end of 2009 aswell.

This thread started in March 2008.....

To answer the OP - everything after Everquest has been a let-down.

STALKER would be a great MMORPG if done correctly.  Make it about territory wars and allow player housing.  Make vehicles craftable with extensive amounts of work and make ammunition hard to get and or rare.  This would have to be full loot , free for all PVP no bullshit type of game.   The FPS view all started with EverQuest and that went away when DAoC came out and hasn't really been back since.  First person view, in my opinion, is key to a great MMORPG  (ie Oblivion, EverQuest, Fallout).

One can only hope.

Everyone already said it.. but FreeRealms seems to be the family game.

Hey OP..

EVE Online

Darkfall (yes, it sucks)

Mortal Online (Coming soon)

That's 3 for ya

They're extremist Christians/Catholics.  They get that way because they are so scared of death that they stick up for something that they have no proof of.  Their beliefs make them feel good inside, and want to force others to think that way too.

Or, They were paid by some church.

Vyre: No loot from players, you get Abyss Points from them and that raises your Abyss rank and you can buy stuff with the points.

What stops them from exploiting that with friends?

Is there full loot, gold loot, any loot, etc from player corpses or is it still for girls only?

serious poll is serious

when is Aion being released?
