We'll definitely be looking into a few different channels of recruiting for beta once it hits the EU/NA. As I've mentioned previously (somewhere); If you want to increase your chances - try your best in contributing to the community. That's the kind of stuff we like to see. :)

Hey there Ayase, nice to see you around.

What can we consider as "contribute to the community?" , i'm following aion with much expectation in forums since some months ago, would do anything in my reach to have the chance to test the game and provide feedback in closed beta!

*gets his hands ready to work!*  ^_______^ !

Well, the interpretation of that is quite open. Anything you think you could do that's also good for others in the community(ies), simply put. :)

That's not what NCsoft Europe is saying.

I have confirmed that there will be EU/NA beta numerous times. ;)

Please let us know if you know an releasedate?!

No problem, I will do that. ;)

The part I don't get is if the game is so fantabulous, then why is their web page such crap?  You'd think that with all the time and effort they're putting into a "next-gen" MMO they'd put at least a *little* effort into promoting it through their web site.  Definitely not the case here.  I get skeptical when I see something like this because it usually means they either don't care about the community and they just want our $$, or the game is a 2nd rate version of some other game that they bought the rights & engine from (a-la Archlord).

Compare this to a game like Warhammer Online where they spend a good bit of resources on their web site to promote and inform the community about the game and you see the difference between a company that's serious and one that's not so serious.

The current website (www.aiononline.com, for any present landlubbers) is just a teaser website that's online until we're ready to start promoting the game with all our engines. Our web guys are currently working on a new site that should be online in the not too distant future.

We really couldn't be more serious about the community and about our game. Just stay tuned. :)

Woah, nice to have some feedback from Aion Staff! :))) Really glad u guys have a open dialogue with your future costumers!

Ayase, can u inform me if there's gonna be any European beta, or are we goint straight to final version?

Regards

Katzu

We try our best. ;)

Yes, we're currently planning to hold a beta for EU/US. Unfortunately I can't give you any dates or specifics yet.

The testing in Korea is progressing well, and the developers are trying their best to accommodate what chances the testers think are needed. I'm very happy with how it's progressing myself. :)

As for the other questions, I'm afraid I will need to summarize it into two answers which you probably won't be happy with.

1) We haven't yet made a final decision as to how server-access will work.

2) We haven't yet made any final decisions regarding the payment model/payment methods.

Once those things have been decided, information will of course go out to the community. :)

You are not so active anymore in those forums , hence I believe the EU/NA team is working hard to release the game soon enough. Anyway , when should we expect to see a EU/NA website of Aion? Very soon? Soon or .. Relative soon ? :)

Soon. ;)

I like to keep my replies relevant and contributional, which is why sometimes you don't see me writing a lot here (I still read it all, though).

I have checked with three differen't preorder sites and they all say October 30 so, for now I would keep that date in mind as the most reasonable time.

Well, since we have not yet been able to announce a release date for Aion here in EU/NA, none of the dates you will find out there are given by us. It is a well-known fact that many sites and online stores attempt to estimate release-dates.

Until we have made any announcement, however, I wouldn't trust any date that's floating around. We're definitely working hard to get Aion out there as soon as we can, but it's also very important for us to be able to provide a game with great polish and content. Stay tuned, and when we're confident enough to give you a release date, we'll do that. :)

Yes, characters in Aion will be bound to a server.  ;)

We're still assessing our situation in order to better pinpoint a release in the EU/US (of course as soon as we can make it).

It's ready when it's ready, you know. :)

i badly wanna play this game >.<

We have currently planned release for the second half of 2008.

Beta, however, is planned to launch some time before that.

Hi Ayase ,

First of all let me thank you for your wonderful informations regarding Aion. Second , I just saw that you were a "normal" mmorpg user some time ago , then you created  www.aionlib.com ( seems it's down now ) . After sometimes after that, your "dream" come true and you are now a Aion Community Coordinator , which is great , congratz

Now :) I have some questions for you if you can answer :

1) Is there an english version of the game currently in development? ( I know that the game is still in CB phase 2 in Korea , but just wondering )

2) Do you actualy play the Korean version of the game?

3) What's the stage right now in the Korean CB ? On a scale from 1 to 10 ?! I mean , how things are working? :)

4) There will be Closed & Open Beta for Aion ? Or just Open Beta then ... full release?

5) When do we (EU/NA) need to expect a more detailed website for Aion ? :P

Well , that's all for now and hope you can answer my questions.

Thank you !

Hey IceAge, nice to see you've done some research. ;) I'll answer your questions real quick, as the time is  rapidly passing midnight here on the British islands.

1) Yes, there is.

2) We are currently in the middle of localizing it to English.

3) Sorry, I can't really put a scale on it. But I can tell you that the first phase of Korean Closed Beta has ended (with the second one to follow), and it's looking very good.

4) We are still on a planning stage when it comes to EU/US betas. It is very likely that there will be both a Closed and an Open beta phase.

5) Coming soon (tm). :P

Aya do you know if there's going to be a NA beta definitely ?

Nothing is ever "definitely". But yes. We're planning to have one. :)

b) Top gear obtained through PVP (abyssal gear) Ken choi talks about that in one of his videos.

I'm leaving WoW simply becuase I think PvP took to much focus by now, making PvE "only" about seein the content. The game at the top of my list is this one, but this information concerns me. Does this mean that gear obtained through endgame "raiding" is not the best gear in the game? Do we have another game on our hands in which PvE-determination will not pay off in the long run?

"The best" items will be obtainable several ways. Raiding is one of those. You will, however, also be able to get them through crafting, abyssal PvP and various quests. There is space for the individual, even though groups naturally have an advantage. Scroll up a bit and you will see me explaining things a bit more in depth, in a quote by Ephimero.

I must point out, though, that PvP will be of great importance in Aion. Even if one will most likely be able to get to through the levels without engaging other players a single time, we want to gradually introduce the player to PvP (The Abyss being the final destination) since it's an essential part of the experience. But don't think for a second that this renders PvE play useless, or even near. Players participating in PvE will do so not only because it's great fun, but also to support the war effort - for the greater cause. :)

Maybe Ayase can answer that question. I know a few of my friends are curious about that as well. I personally would assume one is able to swim considering the level of interactivity Aion has. Just wouldn't seem complete. Not to mention swimming is standard in L2. I can't really see them not having it.

The act of swimming is not a feature which is implemented in early stages of any MMO development (mind you, there might be exceptions).

While I can't say "Yes. I promise. Swimming is a priority", I am definitely confident enough to say "You better count on it". The game is right now under very heavy development; Content is being created, changes are being made, polish is being added. Swimming, I would say, would tend to lean more towards the "polish" group of items and is one of those things that is likely to appear at a later stage.

I'm assuming that you're referring to holding both mouse buttons pressed and aiming in the direction you want to walk. That is also something that is being implemented. :)

I haven't myself played through all of CoX, but from my experience and understanding, CoH and CoV rely quite heavily on mission instances.  In that sense, Aion and CoX are in no way comparable. :)
