This game has had several years of development. Cryptic is the second company to work on the project.

With that in mind there is no doubt that they scrapped a lot if not most of the first companies work, but they did have a base to work off of. Add that to the fact that they are and have released games that people do play and I would definitely call this a game that people will play (me being one of them also). You can not call something fail before it is launched.

Good article, accurate also. I have been in eve since early beta and your 100% on your information here. I look forward to more on this.

I'm sorry, but the article is frankly horrible. It is shallow at best, incomplete in places and incorrect at worst.

First off, the kind of tank that goes on your ship is decided by the *ship*. You skill for the tank you want to use as part of skilling for the ship.

I'm in complete agreement.

With all due respect to the article writer, if you don't know what you're talking about, you really shouldn't have written an article like this.

The fourth sentence will be painful to read for anyone that has spent any amount of time in EVE. The simple truth is (as theArcangel stated) that the ship is the deciding factor on what tank you use.

Where's the rating system for articles? lol

Agreed, please get your facts right before you try to distort them. This article is way WAY off.

Good article but why is there a Nyx in the photos?

Well if you must lose 4% of your playerbase, it might as well be the 4% that was inactive most of the time anyway!

If those 10,000 players had actually represented $150,000 a month in revenue, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

That 4% as I have already stated is closer to 30%-40% range. If you look at the numbers that CCP has already provided in the past, they have told us the aprox numbers of alt accounts. That being said, this will hurt them in the end AND IT SHOULD. By their own admission, and to what I have been saying here on MMORPG and MANY other places about this, it was a FEATURE. A FEATURE that we were paying for, one that they were very proud of in the past and one that set them apart from other games.

Now that the economy has turned to crap around the world, they take it away from us. It does not matter how you try to spin it, or for whatever reason you would want to be loyal to CCP for taking away something that we are paing for. The game as a whole is smaller now and the value we were getting from it has been reduced. As I said before, they are going to loose several accounts from me.

People like myself were not getting something for nothing. We PAID for that FEATURE for the last 5 years. Go re-read what CCP said. This was a FEATURE and we PAID for. Yes, I have grown very accustomed to getting what I have PAID for. Now that I will not get what I paid (or pay for) I will NOT resub my alt accounts.

It does not matter how CCP puts a spin on this. It WAS a feature, and they removed it. They will loose more customers then they can imagine in the end because I guarantee you if you read the quarterly reports on Eve's numbers reported by their own in game economist, you will see that the number of people that do this is closer to 30%-%40 range. This will hurt them BAD and they totally screwed this up.

Hilmar may be CEO of CCP but he speaks more like one of those politicians that he is referring to. So lets get a few facts straight first.

1) CCP took away 30 and 90 day time codes out of eve when the Icelandic economy started to fall apart.

2) They just removed one of their founding features in the game, "ghost training" as they call it. This was a feature that they were very proud of during their first major release, Castor, and always told people that their player training and skilling system was very different from other people in the industry.

So when their version of the stock market drops 75%, England seizes a lot of Iceland's assets and their whole countries economy hits a brick wall, they take that away from us as well. Saying that it will balance the game AND, AND! get this, I love this part, it is now being called a bug! Yes a BUG! for the last 5 years it was a FEATURE but now it is a bug!

Don't get me wrong, I love Eve-Online, damn good game, but CCP is totally screwing it up this year. A HUGE thumbs down to Hilmar for lying about it to.

MMORPG.com EVE Online Correspondent Andrew Wallace writes this new article giving players some tips on either destroying a pod or surviving a pod attack in CCP's EVE Online.

EVE Online Screenshot

Consider the humble pod. This unimposing egg may not look like much, but it contains your character, or their current clone at least, and its destruction can be terribly frustrating, even without a head full of expensive implants.

Losing your pod means a trip to the medical centre to buy a new one, but hopefully this little guide will make your visits a lot less frequent for you and a lot more common for your enemy. But first, one of the golden rules of EVE:

ALWAYS KEEP YOUR CLONE UPDATED.

What is not mentioned in this article is that with the new Ambulation project that is going to be out later this year, it takes the last 5 years of this Pod Pilot Eve lore and throws it out the window.

To make thigns even more confusing, as the same time this article is posted, there is another one on here that tells how CCP is removing another one of their features, like the pod pilots mentioned here, from the game.

Total BS, and CCP should be ashamed of themselves. I guess greed is not limited ti just the USA.

I don't not get why people think this is a bad idea.  If your account is not active, you don't get to train.  PERIOD.

I'd have to agree?!?!?

If people aren't paying then why should they receive benefits for leveling up their character. In no other game do you lvl up anything when you have ceased to subscribe.

CCP said from the beginning that Eve was a unique game. They said that the training system was like no other in the industry. Over the last 5 years they have defended this position. NOW they are going against what they said.

Want more unrelated proof?

CCP has a new project called Ambulation, which will allow the people in eve to walk around and socialize with other people in the game. Sounds like a good idea right? WRONG. In the eve universe you are in a pod. A pod like Neo was in at the beginning of the Matrix before he was woken up and got to see the real world. Once you become a pod pilot in Eve you are always a pod pilot. The Eve storyline and the gameplay have evolved around this since day 1. They are changing another CORE item that makes Eve what Eve was.

CCP is just changing, and not for the better. For those of us that DO have multiple accounts and treat the game more like a hobby then a casuall game are furious over this. Just look at the official forums or go to any trade hub in game and listen to the people. They are SERIOUSLY pissed.

So please do not comment on why we can not train when this was a FEATURE in the game until now.

That's how community works. The "community" has stopped a lot of good things from happening. I hope ccp just ignores them.

You sir are FAIL!

Every games community should be the ones that are listened to, not ignored. It has been proven again and again (and it looks like it is needed yet again) that when a gaming company does not listen to it's customers, it is doomed to FAIL!

Just like your post.

CCP has been making some huge mistakes lately, and you can see it in the number of people online at any give time. For easy numbers that you can see for yourself, look at Sundays, which is their peek day for people online, and any weeknight, for steady numbers. You will see that since CCP took away both 30 day and 90 day time codes, the number of people have continued to go down. This is a very bad trend.

For a lot of us veteran players, this will just make us shut down accounts. There is no reason to train and plan for the future when you can't do the things that CCP offers in any given time. The current training system is to long to begin with, that is why most of us have at least 2 accounts.

Also, by leaving this in the game, which it has been in since BETA, it keeps the new players in check with the old players by giving them the same system of game use that the veterans have had. That is a over 5 year advantage right now! So it seriously hurts new players.

Also, back in Beta, and in the Castor days of Eve Online, they touted this training system as "state of the art" and that "no other game allows their players to train while they are not online". When it we brought up in BETA and in Castor that "what if I leave Eve for whatever reason, when I come back will I have what I left with"? and CCP said yes. It was also asked, "what if I am training a skill and will it continue to train if my account runs out of time"? and CCP said yes.

For YEARS CCP has said that these are FEATURES of their game. Now that the Iceland economy is going bad they want to take it away from us. This is total BS. Here is a link to that news. Their markets have fell over 75%.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2008/oct/14/iceland-marketturmoil

So no matter what CCP says, the removal of the time codes AND this show that the company only cares about the end money and not it's customers.

But don't take my word for it, don't believe the news either. Just watch the numbers over the next 60 days, since that is all the time codes are good for and watch how many people do not resubscribe.

With years in the planning this could be the best expansion to date :) and I can't wait!

This sounds excellent. Good news item and very full of information

I want duel skill training like they spoke about (or qued training.

I want to be able to train on multiple accounts at the same time.

I want the market to work the way they said it would when the game was released.

I want a REAL bounty hunter system.

I want the INTERBUS like promised.

I want I want I want...

Well do DO pay for the game so I am entitled to WANT.

New content if fine but for the love of God man put in the features that you said the game was going to have and the features that you know the CSM (Council for Stellar Managment) is going to also bitch about. Get what the players WANT in the game NOW.

Faction warfare....another gaming company sees the light. Now this is really interesting.

(Now if they just had player housing .... I would be there a L O N G time)

They have "Player Housing" since about 2005.

It's called "Player Owned Structure" and you can even build an Outpost. Admittedly, building an OP needs at least a very large Corp or an Alliance. But then, EVE IS a MMO.

Player housing is not POS's. They are 2 different things. Player housing has been being promised since beta but has yet to go into the game. The link is in the patch notes section in under development. You have to be logged in to read it and here is the link.

http://myeve.eve-online.com/updates/plannedfeat.asp?sid=149043546

People have wanted PLAYER houseing since before there was Corporation housing EG POS's. So that is what he was refering to (if I understood him right). If I didn't, well that is what I am referring to. I like the idea of this expansion but it did not have to have another name. It already had one, it was called "Revelations".

Let me see if I understand this clearly.

In an earlier article it was reported that 80% are PVE and 20% are PVP. So CCP is putting out a PVP expansion?

Are the folks at CCP taking advice from the Star Wars Galaxies team?

Where is the expansion for the PVE people? The 80% of your subscriber base?

It is not difficult to join in the PVP experience. It can be fun.

I agree with an earlier poster: the guard duty thing stinks.

If CCP wants to work on an expansion, how about expanding the graphics for the crafter?

The spaceship builder gets to watch a timer count down as the ship is made? A lot of room for improvement.

The miner watches the cargo bay fill up? A lot of room for improvement.

A researcher looks at the same count down. Things to improve. Just my opinion of course.

You get a gold star for hitting the nail right on the head. I could not of summed it up any better (or briefer).

I like the fact that this developer keeps "something" coming out all the time on the game. At least it shows ME that they are trying to stay in touch with the hype that this game is creating. I am looking forward to it coming out!

First part about the blog and about darkness devs has nothing to do with eve so next time leave other games out of it.

Next, nothing new here in the news. So they have progressed a little more. wow. How about a new trailer or screen shots or a release date like Fall 2009 or something like that. That would be news. Just rehashing the same old same old is just that........OLD!

CCP needs to continue to work on fixing the bugs that have been around since BETA before they start putting new ones in with something that is not going to increase the playerbase of the game. I think someones brain up there in Iceland froze or something. Need to stick to what works and fix what doesn't.

The client code is not the source code. This is not a story, but a bad attempt of something trying to pass off as something else all together. The first clue was that it was posted by anonymous and not a creditable source. As for what CCP is doing, bah, it is in the EULA not to do that stuff. If your curious, and you get baned then you did it to yourself. Quit your complaining and move on with your life.

As for Slashdot, they should not of allowed that story to post by an anonymous. That was a big mistake on their part. Nothing creditable there. Bad Slashdot, no biscuit!

... Maurauder puts on his tinfoil hat and awaits the first firestorm when this gets going....

I think that it also has some of the look and feel of Earth & Beyond which is a good thing. I liked E&B and went to Eve when it closed. So to have an alternative to Eve is a good thing IMO :-)
