Everquest Next to feature permadeath?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 3/10/13 4:13:12 PM
This is why we can't have nice things. Permadeath MMO sounds pretty awesome but if the developers always keep listening to the crowdbase then all they'll even end up making is the satisfy everybody game = Casual themeparks. Looking forward to DayZ. |

When will there be a new game that doesn't try to hold your hand and escort you through the content?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 2/24/13 12:43:15 PM
Not MMO's, but Dark Souls and Demon's Souls....and Dark Souls 2 coming next year (on ps4, next-gen-Xbox and PC).

Dude..what? One's an MMO, the other is not.
Skyrim, imo was lame. Elder Scrolls isn't what it used to me. The series has been casualized too much with quest markers, auto travels, linear dungeons. If you're looking for an immersive single player action RPG get Dark Souls instead. But if I had to pick one between DF and Skyrim it would be DF hands down. |

Nah its not about getting older...at least for me. MMO's are just too casual these days and don't provide any real experiences or thrills. There's just no challenge whatsoever. Darkfall UW is giving me so hope though and in time I hope Everquest Next also. Sandboxes are the only thing that can save MMO's right now. At least for me. I'm done with themeparks, you won't get it any better than WoW. |

Any chance for a Demon's Souls / Dark Souls MMORPG?

Tolkien Estate suing Warner Brothers.
General Discussion « Lord of the Rings Online 12/09/12 12:54:09 PM
The Tolkiens are screwed up bunch. You can't even call them elitists, when they disowned one of their own (I think it was JRR's nephew) for liking and publicly supporting the movies.
Christopher Tolkien needs to take a chill pill and stop pretending like his father's work is his own. |

Adventurine needs to hire someone from the media who know how to make trailers. Even a trailer about the lore in Darkfall would do as long as it isn't as amateurish as the one's they've been putting out. |

Why no themepark and sandbox can ever succeed after WoW and EVE
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 11/11/12 8:51:09 PM
This thread is wrong just from its topic title. There's always new markets out there and old ones to reconvert.

So you're saying PvE sandbox is the only true sandbox? What a load of BS. As long as the game starts with a clean slate and lets player communities build player made content which leads to player made quests, that is sandbox and that includes all the subsets of BOTH PvE and PvP specific sandboxes.
And full loot is a subset feature of true PvP sandbox. Basically, the closer to reality i.e. the more the game is influenced by players the more of a sandbox it is. Putting a restriction on loot where you only get XP or potatoes from the slain warriors bag is a harsh example of Game-Architecture forced limitation, basically what drags sandboxes to be turned into Themeparks.
I will say that there not being an essential police system is bad. EVE online does it the best when it comes to this. |

Reasons for minimal advertising/info
General Discussion « Darkfall: Unholy Wars 11/09/12 12:11:32 PM
MMO is probably the best genre susceptible to word of mouth. if the game is good, they're probably counting on it to be their major revenue bringer. And looks like half a million people will be trying out this game at launch? If this will already tax their servers, then it makes sense why they are hyping this game up a lot. YES they can use the extra revenue to build more servers but business expansion isn't as easy as it sounds. There will have to be proper leadership involved that will hold on to their culture as they hire more people to administer more servers and hire more HR to administer more employees, etc etc.
The moment the company loses its culture is the moment the whole game will be affected. BETTER to incrementally build up over a gradual period of time than expand with a bomb blast. That way, they can be sure they will have a smoot launch with less bugs too.
But if they are not expecting their servers to hit full capacity at launch, I guess they either don't know how to make trailers or don't like money. |

Darkfall : UW.
1) Medieval high fantasy 2) Sandbox, political oriented 3) Sandbox by nature means open full loot PvP, but there is no policing system in Darkfall which one of the disadvantages but also places more stress on the challenge of daily survival, making friends, etc.
Until the next Everquest its all we have, and EQ Next is 2 years away, at least. ArcheAge will be BS, I don't think it'll be any different than GW2.
Also if you like space/sci-fi, then bar none, the only true AAA sandbox functioning right now is EVE Online. |

So will DF:UW be a real deal Sandbox this time around, or a open endgame themepark like the first game?

100% agree with this. Some sort of policing system is a must. Whether by NPC's or bounty on players, etc. |

Totally different types of games. Personally, I can't wait to play the hell out of both.
