I don't know if I want to find this kind of arguments amuzing or just desturbing....

Let's take a look at WoW first. It got like what, 11m+ subs? War got probably way below 300k, waay below! Does this make WoW a better game? ofcourse not.

WoW is perhaps just more appealing to the masses, more mainstream. Maybe there're alot of reasons why the numbers in WoW compares to War are the way they are... But all of the reasons are another discussion however!

This very one seems to be about the good old term "carebear" right!? So why not have a little closer look at ourselves first, who are we really? Well, we're the players right, players with different demands and playstyles.

Some folks find it awful when a lowbie can be ganked by a higher more experienced player with the "Uber-gear". They just think it's a very poor way of implementing PvP, perhaps not even worth to be mentioned as PvP! When PvE:ing one should be left alone... period!

On the other hand, some folks are more into free for all PvP-style kind of thing. They want to experience the fear everywhere when trying to level up.
When they selves hit the level cap, they go out themselves, hunting for defenseless lowbies...

People are different, simple is that! If I was the big boss on a game company, guess what I would pick??

WoW:

There are servers for those who want fair PvP between equal opponents. Servers for those who can participate in PvP only when they want to. Here you can PvE without worrying of beeing ganked!

There are also servers for those who accept the fact that one could, as a lowleveler, be attacked unfairly by an opponent far superior. Servers where you will getting nervous even when trying to the simpliest PvE quest's!

Simple fact, WoW has servers for both kinds!

War:

As for the OP, Mythic did listen to much to the community! Way to much!

It's funny to see how some fans still lives in the "300k era", when simple maths tells that they're far from those numbers today!

War's funeral is approaching, what will you do when it comes?

And ofcourse, when do ya all think it'll come? Or will it come at all?

Seriously, why don't they bring up a server where gankers can go "all in" on all the newbies?

I know that alot of folks hates gankers and greifers and such but... comón, ONE server!! As it is now there's really no point in goin for the gear in T3 and T4, there's no one around to fight against anyway. In WoW for example, you could reach level cap, get a little geared and then fly down to Stranglehorn vale and begin your gank tour.

Getting ganked by a higher leveled and geared players would make you more interested in getting up higher in level yourself, just to be able to have your revenge.

Note1: I'm not a speaker for gankers. WoW is an excellent game when it comes to it because there are servers for those who likes ganking AND there are servers for those who doesn't!

Note2: WoW is just an example I'm using so there's no need for "go back to wow" answers.

I remember the all over internet spamming "Waaagh is coming" thingy!  Where did it go?

Some while ago, there were spammings all over the world, well atleast in the internet world. Every other forum got spammed and some forums outthere seemed to be main targets for even greater spammin, WoW forums is one example. Many other games suffered the same attacks aswell.

Why....?

And what happened?

This one is going dooooooown!!

It seems like there's no "if" but "when" this pile of crap will be closed........

General chat:

WTB black suit for War funeral!!1!1!!

Please Mythic, you must finish this game and launch it! Get thru with Beta now....NOW!!!

If you don't finish this game allready people will be mad. And they will start bashing the game and FANWO will have to stop all angry threads.

I will try the game atleast, so far it looks very promising!

You can't, it's a cut scene.

True!

Kids and Teens my have a problem whit this game... Hope it'll success and make over a million but not challange Wow....I don't want those into this game.......   1-  3 millions subs would be just fine!!!

So, when is the funeral of War really?

We all know by now about the server merges from 60ish down to 6 something, Marc Jacobs been fired, Paul Barnett is wanted dead or alive by many players..., Jeff Hickman himself explains/admits that there are some major flaws with the game (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/mythic-shares-biggest-mistakes-with-war) and the disasterous loss of subs since the launch...

When do you think the final day will arrive, the ultimate downfall.... THE FUNERAL?

The game was a failure, why  don't people get over it?

I have a suspicion that this game is going to go to a f2p/cash shop model soonish, so we'll all get a chance to try it again for free.

Heck if it was f2p T1-T3 I think there would be a bunch of folks playing.

T4 is what is a disaster

Maybe if we got T1-T3 f2p and got payed a little to play T4 then the game could actually survive?  ;)

I'd come back and give this game a try if they would give a real "10 day trial", i would ask turn my account on for 10 days like LOTRO does all the time.  What am i really gonna see about t4 changes with 10 days and a lvl 1 character?  TURN ALL accounts on for 10 days,, send emails to all those old users saying "hey your account is on, come play for 10 days for free" and see how many ppl resub at the end of 10 days... wanted to post this on their forums, but had issues trying to log in there, i can log in "my account" but not the forums...someone link this there

Keep dreaming Mythic not gonna give you the opportunity to see that faction imbalance has gone downhill since 1.2, so much that only 6 North American servers are left. They merged the 2 oceanic servers to NA too.

After 22 sept. T4 will be empty. Check the forums, many large guild left, many long time players too. Signature from players in forums now contain "cancelled" "going to Aion", etc...

On the bright side Mythic has no one to blame but themselves and EA. Now, I'm just scared some of those stupid devs might work on StarWars...

Well, I really really hope that they are only allowed to participate in minor things, like getting coffe and stuff...   The BioWare crew should be doin the game parts!

Man, SWTOR is almost like my last hope for mmo's after all these failures that been around the last years!

Thanks for link Till.

I've decided long ago that I'm not going to be a Jedi nor a Sith when trying this game!  I've always played ranged dps, hunter in WoW is one example, Engineer in War is another one...

But.... eh...JESUS!!! That Sith looked really, really fun! :)

arbitrary numbers.

if the company can turn a profit and maintain to, the game is successful.

Exactly. More people need to realize this.

Its not hard to tell who the little kiddies are that are running around saying this failed that failed. The only number that determines if a game fails is dollars. If the MMO is not covering its development cost and maintance cost its failing. What that is depends on the company and they wont run around telling this information.

There will never be another MMO with WoW type numbers. Not even blizzards next MMO. They were the first ones to make the "easy button" brought all these people into the genre. (the ones who run around crying fail fail fail is part of them) WoW has such a head start on all these other casual mmo's that nothing will catch it. The only MMO that will kill WoW is WoW, and time is WoW's worst enemy. To many MMO's are coping wow thus splitting up the players that have left WoW.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Again, thread is not supposing a mmo needs 12 millions to be considered as successful.

One doesn't need to be a kid because he/she consider a game not living up to it's hype!

That may be true, no one said otherwise! (This may...may be true!)

Its not that end game is where the fun is at, its just that end game is where people decide to remain subbed to the game. The journey needs to be fun, and end game needs to be fun. Its not one or the other.

This is it!

By all of these accounts, EVE is a ridiculous failure. That definitely sounds reasonable. /sarcasm off

You can put sarcasm on again if you want.

EvE is for me a success!!  It was a minor game, not a 100 million$ developement but it turned out to be quite good actually. I believe it has somewere 300k+ right?  Now, that's good for EvE!

I'm talking about those games that "everyone" knows about. The games that been talked about for a loooong time and are highly expensive to develope, the very hyped ones.

A couple of years ago something was a bit different from today. A new mmo that reached 300k's were considered to be a huge success. Then, 04 camed WoW and things were about to change...

WoW has something like 11-12 millions of subs, thoses numbers can surely be discussed though. However, when a game launches today and after a few months it turns out to have approximately around 250-300k subs it's still considered as a success for some peoples.

Well, as for a small developement I'm pretty sure that it really is a success! But what about those hyped highly expensive games, the ones with a budget way over the average game? Fanbois, we all heard of them, are claiming that as low as 150-200k users are to be considered as a huge success.  Even for games that took years and lots, lots, lots of money to develope.

Age of Conan was a game that I didn't followed much but I'm aware of the hype that surrounded it. It seems like it finally stabled around 200k+. That's a success? I think not!

Personally I followed Warhammer Online - Age of Reckoning. Or should I say:

Failhammer Offline - Age of Flopping ? Because that's what I think it is. The game seemed to have it all. I thought that this is the "one". The "one" that actually could challenge WoW. The game turned out to be a pile of crap though.

The internet flamewar was pretty much set to go late 08, especially when the Lich King was launched. The subs were dropping like flies from War, fanbois were in denial, some  went back to WoW and some people just cancelled their subscriptions for a while just to come back later to check out possible improvements.

Today, War is down to below 300k's. Still to be considered as a success?? I don't think so, but you might be of another opinion though?

Now, is 11-12 millions needed? No way!!

WoW may have it, but thats a freak of nature...

However, I do think SWTOR for example needs atleast 1,5-2  millions to be considered as a huge success and you know what, I think/hope it will get those numbers!

Anyway, how many subs would you considered to be a huge success?
