Eh, a majority of MMO players still P2P games, even with the huge insurgency of F2P cash grabs. WoW is still sub and still the largest MMO by a long shot. With games like ESO and WildStar coming out sub based, I foresee more P2P in the coming years than large F2P games.

The only major F2P game coming out in the near future is EQ:N afaik.

Archeage... The Repopulation... Gloria Victis.... Perpetuum Online has gone B2P... need I really continue?

Archeage will probably have a pretty healthy population, but those others are going to go the way of the dodo I fear. Gloria Victis shows a little promise, but we'll just have to see.

There's numerous examples which dropped the sub req. and are doing great because of it, like TSW, DCUO, tera, D&DO, star trek, rift, SWTOR...

Wildstar was F2P originally but after they saw how huge interest the game has, they decided to milk the players (I guess they'll switch back to F2P when they won't be satisfied with the incomes anymore)

So the trend here shows that P2P doesn't really work in long term anymore and only those games which were the best survived and are still living on thanks to the playerbase (and the fact that you can run WOW on a toaster) like EVE or mentioned - WOW.

hello guys,

I've been on the fence with this game for a really long time now (so I'd like to try the game myself (finally).

If you could PM me a key I'd really appreciate it! Thanks :)

this is standard... if you set up a sub plan with  your CC or paypal they activate your 30 days free game time and you can cancel the CC or paypal afterwards. They won't charge you with a single coin.

This is the case with every sub based game I've ever played.

So you came for Elder Scrolls experience, but ended up finding the MMO experience.... gotcha.

why would it mean that the MMO experience has to exclude the TES experience? The one thing I expected as a fan was to continue the awesome TES experience, but this time online with other people. What do I get? Just another Copy-paste of most mmorpgs covered in TES looks and a smidge of it's story and experience.

the fact that is the first true AAA MMO developed for consoles...

First? Not even close.

Really? Name a few more....

What do you call DC:UO?

I dunno...what should I call it? Besides a true AAA MMO. a few more....since what Lord said was "not even close". There must be MANY that have been made already.

I'm just invalidating Lord Bachus' comment.

Bloodaxes can take it from here. he can't. He named FFXIV. If that's the best he's got and the best you've got, I'd say that you shouldn't have tried to invalidate what Lord said in the first place. Since what he said is pretty close to the truth. Opinions will vary, but what he said wasn't far off IMO

DC universe online

Final Fantasy XIV

DUST 514

Planetside 2

there's a few more but I'm not quite sure those qualify as AAA so I'll just stop here

I registered beta account, my best friend registered beta account, my gf has one and around 8 of my other friends tried beta.

I played for 2 hours in 1st beta weekend, never touched it later, my best friend never even logged in, my gf didn't log on as well, and of those 8 friends, half never tried the game after the first weekend.

So those numbers don't really mean much, if it was a F2P game then it might mean something. This way most people just had their try for free and saw what they needed to see. For me it was a trial of sort to see if the game's worth the money they're asking for, my conclusion: not by a long shot. I'd had to be high and drunk as shiet to even consider it :D

What makes a WOW clone?

people. people who are clinging so much to the idea of "clones" among games that it's absurd already. it's like beating the dead horse vol. 99.

How unique is this game? In your guys's opinion? Because personally i think its very unique.

And just because i am saying unique, does not literally mean its the only game with that feature. It means its less common in the mmo world. It does not have to be new, just uncommon and even different. Innovative.

Here are a couple reasons why i think that people who say that this game is a clone is wrong:

You can be super-natural creatures. And infect other players.

1st person mode.

Any class can use any weapon and armor.

Exploration is actually rewarding (this was tried in GW2 but kinda failed.) - it kinda didn't fail, you can level just by exploring so I don't see how it failed

Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge PvP map. not really innovative idea :D

Real time combat. how is this new?

You can sneak. (Not totally new but its not very common.)

You can open locked chest by the lock-pick mini game.

Crafting supplies come up random (even though you will find ores usually on the side of rocks/mountains, for example, it will not respawn there.) I also like how wildlife runs away (cool for immersion.)

Can find maps leading to treasure chest.

Can find lore books, and game keeps track of the lore you find. many mmorpgs have that, most recent - GW2 with a lot of books

Can read books, and sometimes books will increase your level in a specific skill (such as light armor.)

Players can be all professions.

You can upgrade abilities by "morphing" them.

Skills level up when you use them (again like light armor.) Skyrim

You can choose to upgrade magica, stamina, or health every time you level up. Choose. nothing new, you could've done that in skyrim (taking most recent game)

Can search basically anything like crates for instance. Also, can take things like bread for instance that is out in "public." yeah but they removed the "stealing" option, which makes me sad. and regarding ES games, it's nothing new.

Has a new game plus.

Can weapon swap at level 15 (not totally new but few games have it.) - done in gw2 most recently

Can use siege weapons like catapults in PvP. (Again not new but is A LOT better than most MMOs with siege weapons.) Lots of variety. (You can use rotten meat for crying out loud! not interesting nor new really :D gw2 has catapults, trebuchets, guns, arrow carts and what not and it's not that amazing after a while.

That is all that basically comes to mind at the moment. If i think of more i will add to this list.

So, what are your guys's opinions.

just to be clear, I'm not bashing the game I'm just stating what I remember from other games. ESO isn't really innovative, especially not because well, it's an ES game so most of the stuff we've already seen in previos games and to be honest, most of the stuff were better executed in those previous games, a lot better. I'd dare to say that ESO looks like a low budget ES xD

even tho I don't really care about "clones" because if there's something I like I'll play it no matter what...

I was hoping to try the game and be amazed, but all I was left with was dissapointment, saddnes and feeling that I was bored to death after just 2 hours of playing, tho I think that I was just sad mostly. The game kinda left me with: "is this everything they were doing? This, we get to play this?! Damn.", feels like there's A LOT of work in front of them because the game seems unfinished (and no I don't mean BETA unfinished, I mean some stuff there look like they shouldn't even be there or even that some things are just missing, laggish, cluncky or what not).

I don't get it... Are we still calling games clones?

Do people who make those claims actually have some imaginative feelings of false loyalty towards a particular game?  I never really understood this.

If I like the game just the way it is and it's what I want to spend my money on it, why should it matter if the game used some of the ideas from someone else? I don't care whos idea was it 10 years ago, I like what they did with it now and I'm going to support their work and enjoy the game. Afterall it's the details which separate great games and good games.

Will it change your opinion or desire to play or not to play the game if someone tells you "oh man, that game is such a clone"? If you like Iron man and someone comes up and says "damn that iron man sucks, the worst movie ever", will it stop you from watching it or liking iron man just because someone doesn't like it? I bet none will stop you from watching the movie.

I'm not sure if you get my point, but here it is: not everyone likes the same things and people are really amazing and weird creatures so wait till you try the games yourself and then judge them and take others peoples opinion with a grain of salt.

I've never heard more excuses jam packed into 20min.

He's got every excuse in the book covered, it's beta, it's unfinished, it's NDA, and on and on

exactly what I was thinking. Not only that but he manages to talk about other reviewers and how they shouldn't bash the game rather say what it is, then he goes on for the rest of the video defending the game xD

Not in the slightest bit interested in buying... I was on the fence but when I tried the game I found myself quite bored with the game and a lot of details were poking my eye and so I came to conclusion that this game isn't worth paying for since I'd hardly play it.

This is one of the few rare games where I got bored within first few hours of playing.

Hey guys... I've heard Imperial race (the ones you have to buy CE to get your hands on, which is utterly retarded because I think that's the whole purpose of sub gamse [to pay a monthly sub so you won't have to deal with this kind of garbage]) has awesome looking armor...

So my question is, did anyone find (or has) some pictures of imperial armor ? I've tried googling, but lots of armors pop out so I don't know which ones are the right ones :/

My Kickstarter funding history....

Carmageddon: Reincarnation by Stainless Games - is still in development...alpha some time in the future if the devs haven't drunk all the funds or pissed them away on concept cars...

  • Pledged-May 10 2012 Funded-Jun 6 2012 Estimated delivery-Feb 2013

Castle Story by Sauropod Studio- on Steam in beta (posters/etc being sent out)

Planetary Annihilation - A Next Generation RTS by Uber Entertainment Inc- in Beta final box art shown days ago...

  • Pledged

Project GODUS by 22cans- Beta

  • Pledged-Dec 18 2012 Funded-Dec 21 2012 Estimated delivery-Sep 2013

Forsaken Fortress by Photon Productions - the survival RPG - I lost track of this one early alpha i believe...

Stonehearth by Radiant Entertainment- I canceled my pledge before it was funded. its in Alpha 1 stage

Wildman: An "Evolutionary" Action RPG (Canceled by Gas Powered Games) - I pledged but it was canceled by Dev, he was bought out by someone I forget whom by, now...

Forge by Dark Vale Games - Canceled Unsuccessful but is on Steam Free-to-play, I dropped support.

I do not plan on 'investing' any money in any Kickstarter project until at least ONE of the projects has been released as a Final product and all 'perks' have been delivered. Then again Relic bit us in the ass with a pre-order of their latest release...nickel and dime with DLC that should have been in the game. Especially those that bought their super pre-order package on Steam. The one that 'kept' them in business.
edit: added big named games dates of importance. as you can see none have delivered on time

I don't really support anything on KS so I'm wondering did you get your money back for Wildman?

It seems like you've got a grudge or something. Also, I don't like how you think. Just because someone isn't filthy rich it doesn't mean they're unworthy of developing a game. But I agree on shady bussines. The thing is people are using KS now just so they don't have to take money out of their own pockets (and plenty of them on KS are filthy rich) and when the game will kick off the funders will be forgotten (well hey, they got their packs already right? - no). I think it's a great idea to help indie devs to knock on the huge market doors but I think people are starting to take advantage of it lately.

I'm also not funding any projects on KS nor am I ever planing to (unless some of my close friends starts developing something - but that's not going to happen).

I don't know if you checked out EVE, but by what you desribed this is exactly the type of game you're looking for.

No sorry, the fact is:

Pay 2 play companies have incentive to keep you having fun and playing.

Free 2 play companies have incentive to get you to spend money on nic-nacs and figure you'll keep playing regardless of quality because it's free.

Buy 2 play is a cash grab because they have no incentive to do ANYTHING after your initial purchase.

The fact is that you're refusing to take a look at the models which actually exist and then see how much sence it makes.

B2P games come with cash shop (if it's a good or bad one is not a subject of this thread) so the cash shop is actually the main thing where they get their money and only thing how they'll keep people from playing it continuosly is if they keep the game uptaded and get new content (big or small) to keep people interested enough so they can sell their perks on cash shops... Initial box sales are just a short boost and they do not represent huge return in the long run (which is what every developer wanst - keeping the wheel going while they can since they invested several years in developing the game).

I also don't see that P2P is retaining its sub numbers in any given game which still has it. Most games that launched failed to keep the sub numbers and also they failed to deliver the new content and/or bug fixes with new content fast enough for people to keep playing (or even return).

The only fact in here might be that games which do have steep P2P option tend to be called "money grabbers" when they switch to the model they see fit after they used up their P2P joker card - since that has been the case in the last few years with any game which went down the monthly sub line. You can defend the IDEA of P2P all you want, but the thing is - market has changed and all I can see is that the days of sub model games are gone. We have examples of which payment model does the best (if used right) so I guess there's no real point in debating that same thing.

You can disagree in THEORY all you want, but in PRACTICE, my points are undeniable :)

I'm sure if you comb through the list of games, you can find a game that breaks the mold, but that's what you'll have to do, comb.

In practice your points are not valid.

It's not all that black & white. P2P did offer better deal before, now this isn't the case anymore. No company can guarantee you taht for the amount of money you spent for initial content will be delivered when you break it even with subs. So if you keep paying 15$ a month and you're still not getting any new content then I don't see I'm getting my moneys worth out of it at all.

Neither is interest in making money with B2P games as easy as "initial cash grab" - I'd guess it's anything but. GW1 didn't break anything apart, they actually had stand-alone expansions where you can decide if you want to go trough the new continent and new content or not. So you could've still play the game as nothing happened and they relied on cosmetic cash shop. They rely on cash shop in GW2 as well, because without that they wouldn't be able to deliver new stuff and keep the game running. Tho, I'm not sure why you made your assumption of company not having any interest for keeping the game alive after the box sales when you've got evidence sitting right in front of you... GW1 is still going, GW2 seems to be doing fine and even TSW is making its way upwards after the P2P disaster.

Also, there's a lot of examples where P2P is simply failing because there's no way people are willing to cash out just like that long enough so devs can make a profit so they turn to other payment models (which seems to be more suitable and does work better for them). So I guess P2P is not the best value for your money and it doesn't represent the messiah of all gaming payment models anymore and I think it was about time that happened because even with all P2P devs started introducing cash shops with microtransactions so I guess I wasn't getting everything for free when I was paying a sub and since devs aren't even considering lowering the sub prices (who knows that might just be the next holy grail) they set with bleeding subs and then they just switch to freemium.

quite interesting topic. I'm not used to reading such topics on this forums :D

you've mentioned bitcoin mining... But lately not even that is going with AMD, because there's alot of ASIC which are being built specifically for BC purpose and they give much more computing power for BC.

When I think of it now, I never really thought about it like that. Never really stopped and thought - what did CUDA bring to the table exactly?. You explained a few things I was wondering about.

Tho, you think nVidia doesn't have something planned in case it does go AMDs way? Or even other way around, going nvidias planned path. Because having nothing prepared means one of them is out of the game for good.

I've come to see that many serious pve/pvp guilds in games are lead by guys. There are guilds lead by girls but they rarely collect good players and form a guild system to dominate the server. Why do you think it doesn't usually happen? And would you join a guild lead by two girls (Who are taking the game and the guild seriously)? If not, could you tell why? Thanks!

I've been in a guild which was leaded by a girl and we did just fine back in the days of WOW: TBC.

Anyways, if I had to choose between a guild with male or female leader the gender of leaders wouldn't be something I'd consider when deciding to join. I join guilds where I feel I can advance with my character and be of some use and where people aren't rude to each other.
