 The problem was even AV themselves was not talking about it.

All I got about the launch was 1 lousy email today - and even that was because I have played this game in the past.

When they put NO effort into advertising themselves you can't expect others to do so for you.

You can look at Trion's "feature" list and see how badly they struggled to find a selling point.

 

  • Futuristic open-world shooter  This is not a feature
  • Massive co-op boss battles    Could be considered a feature,not enough to warrant 60 bucks.
  • Advanced human and alien weaponry  Well we EXPECT weapons in games,NOT a feature.
  • Fierce Shadow War multiplayer  Pvp is not really a feature. 
  • Evolving world with constant content updates Well yes we expect updates in games,again not a feature.

 It is interesting that people say this is no 60 bucks and yet when Borderlands 2 came out people gobbled that up like chocolate cheesecake.

Those features listed above are basically same shit as Borderlands/Borderlands 2 - with the exception that this is massively multiplayer and Borderlands wasn't.

So how can this game worth LESS than Borderlands/Borderlands 2?

That is WHY I can't sympathize when people keep on saying it is NOT worth $60. You actually get MORE value for money with Defiance because you get access FREE to a server, online.

 Quite basically those people are playing it wrong themselves and blaming Trion.

Lockboxes are useless - they are waste of credit and keys. I've never gotten any synergy capable weapons from them. You are better off getting resources from critical kills using sniper rifles (which is why I use sniper rifle a lot - with one of the perks in cloak you get very frequent item loots).

Synergy mod boxes are the ONLY thing that anyone should waste script + keys on. That and any good epic gears WITH proc effect WITH synergy capability that sometimes comes up on vendors.

Stealthers will absolutely be able to play solo, if they're designed correctly.

Casters will likely be solo capable, especially if you're fighting in the big battle thats happening. If its anything like DAoC you'll still gain some gold/exp from anything that dies that you'd hit with a spell.

 If you are in a big battle then you are ALREADY NOT SOLOING.

If your foe was distracted by something else in the environment or another fight with another player and you've jump them you are ALREADY NOT SOLOING.

You do realise that someone or something was helping you/indirectly putting the fight in your favour right? lol

I've been fighting the same people for 5 months, not some random collection of nameless dudes that change every 2 weeks (or in the early days took a free transfer to the winning server)

Faction locks need to be hard, this is why games like daoc and planetside work and games like TSW and GW2 don't.

 Totally agree for pvp games.

Only when rivialry exist can there be a feeling of immersion.

And you can't feel immersion fighting people that are nameless to you. It will be no different than playing pve otherwise.

Which means you play defiance and know about defiance as a game first NOT as the show first. (The comment about the mature crowd is the analysis on the TV watchers, NOT the gaming crowd).

So actually you are proving my point to be exactly correct - the game seems to be bringing in the crowd for the TV show, not so much the other way around.

It is quite difficult to test things in environment such as that.

If the resource system was like WoW where quality is static and availability doesn't fluctuate I would agree with you.

I think the dynamic resource and experimentation aspect of SWG pre-cu was that reason why SWG was loved by crafters in the first place.

In fact most of the content can even be soloed (besides co-op missions of course) - since there is dynamic difficulty adjustments depending on group size for things such as arkfalls.

my planetside 2 guild runs two platoons (well sometimes 3), 1 in guild, the other public.

the in game voice is vital for the public platoon so that people not in guild can follow orders.

Its also handy as they have a channel for platoon leaders across faction to coordinate

 It depends on the quality of the ingame voice support though.

Planetside 2's voice quality was quite good and was pretty clear (kudos to them).

Defiance's voice quality is absolutely woeful - I turn them off if someone has it on. I hear less than 10% of what they are saying because the quality was so bad.

Or by being the weaponsmith who made the best Krayt fitted weapons on the server.

Wow this sounds a lot like AoW. 

 

Original SWG was 10X the game AoW could ever be on its best day. Especially the crafting.

One of the early major faults in the Pre-CU days was, in hindsight, Doctor Buffs. 

 I totally agree (only glimpsed through your reasoning, but I know what are you getting at because I had a similar view)

Doctor buffing was out of control and set an artificial standard for gears. It is kinda like a preview of what will happen to sports if there were no anti-doping agencies.

 Not true. Not true at all (as well as a few others who was saying Wii failed).

Wii is doing VERY WELL in the apac regions. It is just NOT doing well in US.

It has a tendency of that because a lot of Wii games are NOT in English and NOT made for Western crowds.

It has been making a killing for the last few years in Asia - so much so that Sony and Microsoft have to release action feedback controllers to try to corner the market that Wii has taken.

And the principle of international business for the last 10 years is, if something is selling well in East Asia (China, HK, Japan, Korea, TW, Singapore, Malaysia, etc), who needs US/Europe? East Asia's current population size and spending power easily outstrips US by a mile. US is in recession, Asia is in growth.

Nintendo is doing very well.

 The show is not overally CGI - because obviously this is a post-apoc sci-fi series not a space one like Babylon 5 or something. It is kinda similar to Firefly (with the similar wild west post-apoc feel).

Thats said I personally don't feel the show will bring much of the mature crowd to the game obviously, because of the fact that online games are time consuming and not a lot of adults who have time to watch shows will have time to play games.

Watching shows is easy - you can even watch them in the toilet via mobile. Online games however requires players to be in front of tv/PC to play it. With the fact that there are so many good shows currently showing this year (Game of Thrones, Vikings, Hannibal, etc) I don't the think a lot of the TV crowd who watched Defiance will translate to playing the game.

I believe it is rather the other way around (the game will make the show more popular/known).

1 v 1 warplots will be quite stupid if they were going to have it (which they don't) if you think about it - it is basically a feud between 2 lousy neighbours.

1 v 1 is not a "war" lol... it is just a fight.
