 To be fair I don't thik the resource system was pre-generated values - they are dynamic, unlike in most other games.

That why you see so many of those exceptional values are here 1 day and people will swoop to by those resources and gears and they will be gone the next.

It is quite difficult to test things in environment such as that.

If the resource system was like WoW where quality is static and availability doesn't fluctuate I would agree with you.

I think the dynamic resource and experimentation aspect of SWG pre-cu was that reason why SWG was loved by crafters in the first place.

In fact most of the content can even be soloed (besides co-op missions of course) - since there is dynamic difficulty adjustments depending on group size for things such as arkfalls.

the in game voice is vital for the public platoon so that people not in guild can follow orders.

Its also handy as they have a channel for platoon leaders across faction to coordinate

 It depends on the quality of the ingame voice support though.

Planetside 2's voice quality was quite good and was pretty clear (kudos to them).

Defiance's voice quality is absolutely woeful - I turn them off if someone has it on. I hear less than 10% of what they are saying because the quality was so bad.

Wow this sounds a lot like AoW. 

 

Original SWG was 10X the game AoW could ever be on its best day. Especially the crafting.

One of the early major faults in the Pre-CU days was, in hindsight, Doctor Buffs. 

 I totally agree (only glimpsed through your reasoning, but I know what are you getting at because I had a similar view)

Doctor buffing was out of control and set an artificial standard for gears. It is kinda like a preview of what will happen to sports if there were no anti-doping agencies.

 Not true. Not true at all (as well as a few others who was saying Wii failed).

Wii is doing VERY WELL in the apac regions. It is just NOT doing well in US.

It has a tendency of that because a lot of Wii games are NOT in English and NOT made for Western crowds.

It has been making a killing for the last few years in Asia - so much so that Sony and Microsoft have to release action feedback controllers to try to corner the market that Wii has taken.

And the principle of international business for the last 10 years is, if something is selling well in East Asia (China, HK, Japan, Korea, TW, Singapore, Malaysia, etc), who needs US/Europe? East Asia's current population size and spending power easily outstrips US by a mile. US is in recession, Asia is in growth.

Nintendo is doing very well.

 The show is not overally CGI - because obviously this is a post-apoc sci-fi series not a space one like Babylon 5 or something. It is kinda similar to Firefly (with the similar wild west post-apoc feel).

Thats said I personally don't feel the show will bring much of the mature crowd to the game obviously, because of the fact that online games are time consuming and not a lot of adults who have time to watch shows will have time to play games.

Watching shows is easy - you can even watch them in the toilet via mobile. Online games however requires players to be in front of tv/PC to play it. With the fact that there are so many good shows currently showing this year (Game of Thrones, Vikings, Hannibal, etc) I don't the think a lot of the TV crowd who watched Defiance will translate to playing the game.

I believe it is rather the other way around (the game will make the show more popular/known).

1 v 1 warplots will be quite stupid if they were going to have it (which they don't) if you think about it - it is basically a feud between 2 lousy neighbours.

1 v 1 is not a "war" lol... it is just a fight.

 It is probably as successful as APB when it firstr launched I think (maybe doing a bit better than APB).

While not exactly the same type of game/crowd Defiance is close to being PvE version APB (but with more sci-fi and less crime oriented).

I'd imagine it probably stole a good portion of APB crowd. I personally know a few who have switched and not played APB since Defiance came out.

Don't know about platforms other than PC though.

In addition to mod set synergy there is also class synergy with some weapons (those that of epic or above qualities, generally).

Class synergy gives benefit if you are of certain starting class.

DC Universe (and in fact, any superhero games) should probably have been a MOBA all along... they should never have been mmos.

 

Who cares what superheroes eat, drink or train? Most ppl watch superhero movies because thye want to see heroic things, like fighting epic enemies... not standing around in a town trading goods lol.

But the future of the foundry and ccomparable systems is fully based on this one game, and how much these developers keep ugrading the foundry untill it becomes a set that allows people to develop their very own MMO´s.. but thats still a very very long way to go.

I think it will be the future of pc gaming period, but it's been a long time coming to mmos.  Cryptic really deserves some credit with this one.  Games, and more importantly IPs, last longer and flourish if players can create and contribute.

GoG is having a sale on System Shock 2.  I read an assoicated modding guide and there is a very dedicated community of gamers that mod the game.  I was surprised that the game has lasted this long and it's really because of those modders.

Torchlight 2 just released their in house editor and mods tools.  That IP has a very dedicated mod community.  The crazy thing is I paid $20 for that game and they've updated and added more free content than some mmos I've played.  Runic is an amazing studio.

Cryptic is really pioneering here because of the quality and depth of their editor and how well the missions integrate into the game world.

i also think it's funny when people chime in with dev content is way better than player created and such.. but in my experience in games like skyrim or nwn player made stuff was a lot of fun in many cases and also lasted me a LOT longer overall as long as you have a decent population of people making content... only issue is in single player games you have more free reign to create anything in games like skyrim as the creation tool allows you can recreate absolutely anything totally changing the games ruleset to however you want. In nw we are limited to just quests but it's still a big step in the right direction

 Agreed.

I think it might indicate the possibly that Devs are often types not good storytellers, good as they might be in developing a game.

And good storytellers are not very often necessarily have the know-how in making games.

This is why I think the Foundry is a good thing also - it makes gamemaking/mastering accessible to storytellers.

What, the gate goes and we're fucked? Nah. Gotta be able to block the opposition or it's just too simplistic. I've seen arguments for and against CD and the word realism gets thrown around a lot. I don't see anything wrong with a more realistic system tbh, but what I don't want it to be is too easy. The ability to slow down your enemy by throwing bodies at them is exactly as it should be.

One of the best aspect about WAR is you can prevent people from entering the keep by stacking up shea numbers at the door once it breached (which is how it was supposed to be, in siege warfare).

If you can just run through defense at will and assassinate them from behind there is really not much point in defending sieges.

I got a feeling that a lot of those that voted no are people who likes to run stealth classes or caster classes that favours having no obstruction at all (like for example the more survivable hybrid caster classes). Casters that are squishy, range non-caster classes or tanks I can't forsee will like having no CD at all (I guess that's why the poll is 1/3 saying no CD is good).
