That all MMO's started flawlessly on day one?

Nope. Actually people in this thread was asking how come there wasn't any advertising of D:UO's re-release by BOTH the websites and AV themselves.

Most people in this thread weren't even bashing it, they were just curious why (as I was).

You didn't really read thread or the comments didn't you? lol

I'm quite amazed they rated it so low. Then again they weren't probably paying so its not getting suck up scores like all the other games which would probably net it not all that far from other MMos out there that got scoreed. So yay, it didn't do to bad, not perfect but its only about ~1 point  from what the top games REALLY are rated! XD

I don't think it is because they were "paid" per se, as don't really want to make assumptions on any corruption might exist lol...

But I can deduce why the score might be higher (though still don't think it is justified):

1. Global Agenda's concept was "fresh" when it came out.

2. GA was made by an indie AND upstart studio who's first game was that game.

3. APB was a cops and robbers game, maybe the IGN guys REALLY likes cops and robbers (or like being a tryhard Mexican gangster who secretly do the Mexican accent too in their private time)

4. APB was also made by an indie upstart studio and first game.

5. There is less advertising form GA and APB, therefore less expectations.

SWTOR the free to play?

lol swtor free to play...

Good luck getting anywhere in swtor with that mentality.

Swtor is pay to stay mate - try having any fun not paying. You can't even get enough action bars for your actions.

That is a bit low. I'd think they would give it a 6.4 or close. But I agree, that in the first 10-20 hours of play it is worse in quality compared to games like Global Agenda(8.4) or APB (7.6). Also, in limited time frames, it makes sense that MMORPGs like SWTOR can recieve an 9+ before realising how limited the game is.

ya but even then swtor as bad as it is now there is still more contents to play with compared to defiance.

Swtor is mmo, Defiance is not.

As for the score vs Global Agenda and APB actually I think that was very unjustified. I've played all 3 gamed (APB and Global Agenda to a high level) and I don't feel either of them is better than Defiance in anyway (definitely NOT APB - APB is horrid compare to Defiance).

Global Agenda is just as one dimensional as Defiance, and the arts are worse imo (because it is too fanciful, whereas Defiance is more realism). APB's artwork is better than both but it's gameplay is totally woeful and the game systems itself are wayyyy too prone to exploit. Also with APB there is nothing to do if there is no opposition, which is a BIG problem that neither Defiance or GA has.

Global Agenda was even worse at launch as everything was instanced and you needed a group to do any of its content, it was a long time til it even got an open world to play in.

Exactly. Good point.

That's why I think this score is completely unjustified considering the score that GA and APB got.

It looks like WoW and that's not a good thing at all.  My love for WoW has always been *despite* it's graphics.  The fact that we're talking about a new game that looks like another game that's almost 10 years old is pretty bad.

It doesn't look like WoW at all. Nothing at all.

1. Men in WoW don't have accentuated jaws

2. Women in Wildstar has big mouths

3. Men, women and elves in WoW actually looks manga-ish, whereas humans in Wildstar looks Disney-like cartoonly.

4. There is no hulking man that looks stoish or mean in WoW - there is only ugly hulking fat man like those undead beasts (in fact, that side of the art direction more similar to Anarchy Online than WoW).

So no, absolutely no similarity whatsoever.

If you gonna put all comic-like toon appearances games in one basket you might as well throw SWTOR, Scarlet Blade, GW2 all in the mix too - since technically they all look comical.

The only few that DON'T look comical are TSW, AoC and LoTRO.

Why would anyone want any games to shut down? That's just mean... you didn't create it, it is not your livelihood.

It is like saying you want someone to be out of a job.

That's said, I do want the following games to be fully audited by the independent bodies and be put into administration if found to be incompetent so that they will be held accountable for lying to customers:

Mortals Online

WWII Online

To be fair, creating aliens like the ones in Star Wars or Prometheus would be a lot more expensive in both cosmetics and prosthetics department.

Also they are trying to create aliens that people that watch the show can relate to. People can't really relate to aliens that look like insects or is a brunch of crystals or a tree - they would just look too "alien".

Because human are bipeds it is much easier for audience to relate to aliens that is at least bipeds in some way.

I mean... when you watch District 9 do you feel related to the Prawns? Or when you watch Mortal Kombat do you feel related to the 6 armed Outworlders? You would just feel like they are beasts to you.

What were people expecting? Steven Spielberg special effects? It's a scifi show on television....I actually was impressed with the CG considering I went in expecting B rated CG that comes with every TV show..tera nova stargate Atlantis CG...annoys me when people complain when a SCIFI show can't recreate the bar scene in tatooine from Star Wars...pilot was good give the show a chance people

Well Game of Thrones and Vikings was just fantasy/mythlogical show on TV too but somehow their world feels more immersive, and looks nothing like cheesy Spartacus and Camelot.

It's got to do with the delivery.

Most on TV scifi shows just seem to have bad deliveries.

I actually hated nearly even minute of the show up until maybe the last thirty minutes.  I didn't like the dialogue at all and though that it was waaaay too cheesy at some points.

I hope I become more interested in the coming episodes.

....

I wanted to turn the TV off whenever the dude pulled the handcuffs from behind his back and was like "Oh, I got bored".  Trying way too hard to make this very unintimidating man into a badass.

Lucky for him, those biomen have balls that can be slightly hurt and butt holes with permanent off switches in them.

Overall concept of the show seemed neat, but I agree. It felt like it was a bad soap opera, and with bad cliches being thrown left and right I just couldn't watch it past the first hour.

Most sci-fi series are bad soap operas if you noticed, that's because for some reason sci-fi dialogue writers tends to be too "optimistic" - just look at Firefly, Star Trek or even Babylon 5. Aliens and Prometheus was probably the only ones that are "emotionally realistic".

Most historical series tends to have good scripts, because in reality, history was cruel because Men is cruel.

I think it just have not been updated yet - maybe sy-fi channel outside of US haven't show the pilot yet and they are waiting for people to have a chance to watch it first before uploading Episode 2's missions.

That or they are still giving people a chance to do Episode 1 missions - if I remember correctly they will take down episode 1 missions after episode 2 is up, and the end of episode 1 missions do give a nice gun (epic 4 slots).

Small scale fights - IE  WOW arena.  The bigger the fight (that doesn't turn into a lagfest)  the better.

PVP with no point -  Make winning in some way important to the side with an effect on the game world.  Make it less an instant respawn slayfest and more of a strategic battle.  Don't reward selfish play.   Give a sense of progression and development of both your toon and your guild/team/side for our efforts.

 This 2, absolutely.

Instanced pvp are the worse thing that was invented for pvp (by Blizzard). There is no point to them really besides grinding out, and because of them now every company is doing it.

Instanced pvp should've been left for MOBAs.

I hope they never have that in CU.

Free access to Defiance server? where do i get that? got a link?

Hmm.. you don't need to pay sub fees dude = free access, just one off $60 bucks... I thought that was common knowledge in this thread?

I hope you are not meaning to misunderstand my statement of free access as in free access to their server insfrastructure and source codes? Cuz if you are youa re just being absurd, not sarcastic.

When darkfall announced their first planned release for DF2 mmorpg was all over it, however now that the luanch is set in stone nobody's talking about it.

I wonder if this is a sign about how crowded DF2 launch will be?

The problem was even AV themselves was not talking about it.

All I got about the launch was 1 lousy email today - and even that was because I have played this game in the past.

When they put NO effort into advertising themselves you can't expect others to do so for you.

Ya i did watch the show,it was ok,not the best of script writing though, quite generic and quite cheesy at times.

I am in the same boat on cost,i just  do not see Defiance game being worth 60 bucks.

You can look at Trion's "feature" list and see how badly they struggled to find a selling point.

  • Futuristic open-world shooter  This is not a feature
  • Massive co-op boss battles    Could be considered a feature, not enough to warrant 60 bucks.
  • Advanced human and alien weaponry  Well we EXPECT weapons in games,NOT a feature.
  • Fierce Shadow War multiplayer  Pvp is not really a feature.
  • Evolving world with constant content updates Well yes we expect updates in games, again not a feature.

It is interesting that people say this is no 60 bucks and yet when Borderlands 2 came out people gobbled that up like chocolate cheesecake.

Those features listed above are basically same shit as Borderlands/Borderlands 2 - with the exception that this is massively multiplayer and Borderlands wasn't.

So how can this game worth LESS than Borderlands/Borderlands 2?

That is WHY I can't sympathize when people keep on saying it is NOT worth $60. You actually get MORE value for money with Defiance because you get access FREE to a server, online.

They potentially removed key drops on side missions. You need keys to buy loot lock boxes and is the primary source of decent gear. This led a few derpy people to the knee jerk reaction that they would have to use the cash shop to buy them, because getting keys from arkfalls and buying them with the tech currency apparently was ignored.  So instead of being able to buy loot lock boxes every 15-20minuets it now is going to take like an hour.  Most people salvage their lock box loot so they can buy more of the keys they need to buy more lockboxes...on top of dropped loot.  Its REALLY easy to get those boxes even after the keys got removed as a reward for some of the side missions and repeatable stationary events (you can walk into an oil refinery and trigger the mission any time you want for example, oil refinery will always be there and some side missions take you there and have you do other stuff on top of the event)

So a couple people posted that Trion = EA and the thread got locked lol.

Quite basically those people are playing it wrong themselves and blaming Trion.

Lockboxes are useless - they are waste of credit and keys. I've never gotten any synergy capable weapons from them. You are better off getting resources from critical kills using sniper rifles (which is why I use sniper rifle a lot - with one of the perks in cloak you get very frequent item loots).

Synergy mod boxes are the ONLY thing that anyone should waste script + keys on. That and any good epic gears WITH proc effect WITH synergy capability that sometimes comes up on vendors.

Nothing wrong with the ability to play solo.

Stealthers will absolutely be able to play solo, if they're designed correctly.

Casters will likely be solo capable, especially if you're fighting in the big battle thats happening. If its anything like DAoC you'll still gain some gold/exp from anything that dies that you'd hit with a spell.

If you are in a big battle then you are ALREADY NOT SOLOING.

If your foe was distracted by something else in the environment or another fight with another player and you've jump them you are ALREADY NOT SOLOING.

You do realise that someone or something was helping you/indirectly putting the fight in your favour right? lol

this is why i find planetside 2 far far more enjoyable than GW2

I know who killed me and what outfit they belonged too

I've been fighting the same people for 5 months, not some random collection of nameless dudes that change every 2 weeks (or in the early days took a free transfer to the winning server)

Faction locks need to be hard, this is why games like daoc and planetside work and games like TSW and GW2 don't.

 Totally agree for pvp games.

Only when rivialry exist can there be a feeling of immersion.

And you can't feel immersion fighting people that are nameless to you. It will be no different than playing pve otherwise.

I do not disagree. My complaint is that SOE never tested the finished items with the capped or near capped values to see what the effects were. Not so much of the "how" or when those values came into play. That was a failure of testing. Had SOE had testers run around with 90% comp, 3k doc buffs, and high end CM mind poison, they would have seen how it skewed things like PvP, high end PvE, and group dynamics. (Especially on the CM mind poison thing... it was stupidly OP for a combat medic to be able to take out large PvP groups because of unblockable/unhealable mind poison AOEs.) But they didn't, and moreover did not care enough to think on how to fix things in a smart way.

I think you are right in that they didn't foresaw that at all.

And I suspect that by CU they were already planning NGE behind the players backs - and are no longer concerned with those details.

The entire system rewrite has to be under development for a while - there was no way that it was ready as sudden as the announcement otherwise.

You are wrong about the "Mature" crowd. I am 40, have a part time job, go to school full time, Married and two kids, plus a few other hobbies besides video games.

And yes, while on average I will reach the teen levels in an MMO in the time that most of the "younger" crowd will be at max level, it's because of this that I no longer care about the stupid race to level that we all seem to be inclined to do at the release of a new game.

But your assumption is based on the fact that you are ALREADY a gamer (which in effect negate the entire point of what I was saying about people watching the show, THEN subsequently know about and got into the game scenario).

Which means you play defiance and know about defiance as a game first NOT as the show first. (The comment about the mature crowd is the analysis on the TV watchers, NOT the gaming crowd).

So actually you are proving my point to be exactly correct - the game seems to be bringing in the crowd for the TV show, not so much the other way around.
