I may be missing the point but in writing an article on the term WoW clone so only talk about update schedules?
What about mechanics, stats, classes, etc - I think that's the core of the term not how often new content is added |

Foolish Sith Only you in your silly long hoodies and your "I so need to be different" coloured lightsabres would have the arrogance to believe we are not ready for your return. |

Does Diablo 3 get released to counter GW2
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/12/11 7:34:54 AM
I know the lines of what is a true MMO can get a bit blurry but comparing Diablo to GW is stretching it a little far dont you think. Both great games but i am sure are seen by the mass consumer market as different genres. Just because a game has an online component does not make it an mmoRPG - otherwise we would be tackling the frickin elves in FiFA online.
Hmmm, maybe that referee was a bloody Orc |

and dont forget the micro economy around it including those that make a living farming gold for the sellers market, the ones that publish guides and books and the other industries hanging off the brand. WOW is so much more than the revenue that Blizzard makes - its almost an institution and whether you like the game or not its hard to argue the impact it has on gaming culture and that its almost an institution with over 12 million subscribers.
i guess one of Blizzards big challenges is knowing that it is highly improbable that there will be a game to rival WOW's success especially one they make themselves. Therefore they have to contend with the inevitable fact that one day the revenue stream will decrease (and probably quite fast) and there is no way to fill the hole. |

I don't understand why this is a stupid post and some people are so quick to dismiss it.
If you think about how new an entertainment industry gaming really is in comparison to others and how quickly both gaming and mom culture has grown, I think it's quite an interesting question to wonder how that culture would respond if the largest current outlet on a global scale disappeared overnight.
Aside from the extreme reactions like the suicides you have to wonder how many lives fundamentally change instantly and how dowse this population cope with depression and what games pick up the bulk of the subscribers now availiabke

Great advice. Disappointingly I am cancelling. |

Whilst i dont agree with some of the reasoning, we are perfectly entitled to say a game has failed ( from a personal) perspective. We are the gaming public - the ones who they are trying to tease the money from. They dont make these games for fun - its their job and the key part of that job is to get as many long term subscriptions as possible. If we do not cry FAIL when a game is seriously flawed how do we expect the industry to evolve. |

But the problem with this game is not that its released with a few bugs or missing features. Its missing a decent mechanic, a ton of content and loads more.
Its just a damn poor game.
If it was a single player release everyone would be agreeing, why is it so hard to be as objective for an MMO.

and here is the reason why so many games get released when they are not truly finished and customer service usually counts for nothing. Because despite so many reviews, opinion and articles trying to inform you that a game is a pile of trash, people will still flock to vigourously defend it (probably so they dont have to face the reality that you wasted your money of a pile of crap when you should have listened in the first place).
So lets take a stand.
Dear Square Enix, I am a huge fan of your games and have bought almost every one without regret. However, as an objective long time game player with a mind of my own and having played the game to the point where I am happy that I could form an opinion that is personally valid, that this latest FF MMO is indeed awful and needs huge remedial action if you expect it to be anyway succesful with the mainstream player base. I hope you do something significant to improve the game but I doubt you will. You can always use the new "F2P" getout clause but right now - this game is less fun than than slug racing. |

What a ridiculous argument. Its a game, a form of media entertainment. As long as you actually pllayed the game and gave it your personal usual time that you would fairly give to any other then you are entitled to an opinioin. The fact thta you quit the game beacuse it did not appeal to you makes your opinioin porobably more relevant than those that just grin and bear it. After all, the point of making MMO's is to get AS MANY PEOPLE SUBSCRIBING AS POSSIBLE!!!! |

I was exactly the same. I read so many conflicting opinioins of how it was so different so I ignored the advice and bought it.
Its not a good game at all. Great graphics, no content. Trust me - wait for a free trial. |

Without a doubt you should try EQ2 extended ( I play EQ2) and things it very solo friendly and a great PvE game, or you should try LOTRO especially as its F2P and very high quality PvE |

I dont hate this game but I do thing its poorly designed and very dull (and thats nothing to do with the ridiculous Hardcore debate). |

Would you go back to SWG if it went F2P???
General Discussion « Star Wars Galaxies 9/22/10 9:39:47 AM
For me personally the decision on whether I would go back to SWG would have nothing to do with whether I had to pay for it of not. I know I am lucky enough to be able to afford a couple of parallel subscriptions but my decision would be on the features that this game has above the other choices. There are some great F2P games on the market and with recent additions of high budget games such as LOTRO, EQ2 and D&D, the choice has never been better for F2P players. However SWG, for me, just looks far too dated now and that ship has just sailed. If it had a significant graphics revamp, (such as Eve has done in the past), it would be more appealing but I think its just too hard for an "old" game to reinsert itself in the market. I wish the current players all the best thouh as I had a great time ehen I played it and with a great community. |

Will you ever buy another Cryptic game?
General Discussion « Star Trek Online 7/29/10 2:48:01 AM
I dont think its sensible to say I would never buy a game from them again but I certainly would not want one that is built on the same engine and using the same "cookie cutter" design base that CO and STO have been created from. In my own personal opinion they are both very poor quality, drab games. I am more wary than I used to be about getting hyped up for a cryptic game but that does not mean I rule them out forever.

Geez how much disk space does this game take up?
General Discussion « Age of Conan 7/07/10 8:36:53 AM
Maybe its just the specific type of compression they use for the files. There are other games with equal or better graphics that dont use that much space |

Totally agree. Getting purposely banned is not the mark of arrogance, its the mark of an idiot. Totally different. |

Everquest 2 is my all time favourite. I dont play it anymore but loved it from beta through 4 years of great guilds and new friends. Zones are massive and diverse and the lore is great. Graphics still look very good and the wealth of items, armours and crafting is excellent. Recommend trying this out |
