Fantasy sucks. Make it a blade runner cyberpunk setting.

I know about the AI and how it can't stack b/c of the resources required etc. I'm not talking about that.

Why don't mobs attack on sight, why must hostile mobs act like you are invisible until you walk close to them, it's absurd to walk into a bandit camp, but you just have to pull them one at a time, and the others don't see you until you shoot/blast with a spell/stab them. Is there a reason for this or is it just laziness?

Mobs which rush players the second they enter LoS would be a complete mess of an AI.

Why?

Come 150ft near bandit camp.  Every bandit aggros and charges you.  You're crushed.

Alternatively, let's say the bandit camp is only 6 men large and your group can take them -- but now bandit camps need to be 500ft apart from one another.  The game is now 60% travel time, 40% gameplay.

If we say travel has a lot of gameplay to it, maybe that works out fine.  But in most games travel is virtually devoid of gameplay and a very minor dev focus -- forcing players to spend most of their time performing an activity which has this little dev focus results in players rightfully accusing the game of being boring.

But again, both of the major AI traits (aggro radius and threat) are games unto themselves, which is why most players enjoy them considerably more than the alternatives - at least until we start to see more/better use of AI inside instances where it can be more custom-scripted.

There are also minor payoffs in aggro radius/threat for keeping combat strategic, as fights can be planned out ahead of time while in view of the mobs.

But what if you had 4 men in your group then 4 spawned, 6 men in the group six spawned etc?

I Think charecters should be able to smoke DMT in games , how cool would it be to see all those swirly spiraly effects and maybe it gives you a buff and if you have a bad DMT trip then you gotta fight of hoards of monsters. And maybe you could have some sort of Epiphany lik lots of people have profound experiences so then thats another buff u can get.

I don't get it.

The reason for it is so not a single player will train the mobs of an entire zone. And of course zones are smaller today than 10 years ago and that means the aggro range often get smaller as well.

Yes but what if mobs adjusted for  the number of players in a zone and were  evenly spaced out and maybe the creators could try to guage based on spawn rate+number of ppl in an area how many mobs to spawn so mobs are realistic in terms of when they see you they attack or when you kill one of their friends they attack, but maybe with some calculations to determine where/how many mobs to spawn they would make it so that they don't aggro 30 mobs and would put way less mobs in the area so they have big aggro ranges.

But it is rather sad that you more or less can kill the orc guard with a meteor shower while the bunch that are close are watching it happen without trying to attack or get away from those mad adventurers. That is laziness from the programmer, but also a thing to make the game easier.

Exactly I mean if they don't attack on sight at least make it so his friends within a certain distance will attack me if I kill his friend! The only argument I have heard as to why they do this is because of CPU and stuff which is total crap and just an excuse for the lack of innovation b/c the devs don't feel like it.

Let's be honest, when the game is released it will be as buggy and un-polished as sin. Like Darkfall, the game will get polished and get better. Trouble is with DF, the creators don't really "get" what makes a sandbox good. To them, sandbox=little content+ mindless ganking. They think a sandbox means an empty world. This doesn't seem like a sandbox to me, it seems like a war game, instead of adding new things that don't involve pvp to give players more options they just add more pvp stuff like the "fun hulk" which is cool and all, but they have the wrond idea. To me a sandbox is like SWG, some cool questlines (that I can choose to take or not to take), I can be an entertainer or crafter and never pick up a gun, I can be a bounty hunter or criminal or whatever. This is a sandbox because it's not all about pvp all the time, there are many options and pvp is one of them.

An even better example to compare to ER is EVE, that to is FFA loot game, yet there is so much stuff to do, weather that's to craft, become a criminal, participate in the super deep market, player polotics, pve etc. From all the interviews Masthead "get's it" I think. They realise that to make ER good, they must make PVP a very big component but NOT to make it a pvp game. DF and MO don't realise a game needs depth not just new ways to kill people in some open world death match.

I don't think DF will ever reach EVE level. Yes they got a lot of things fixed, and yes it does have a small dedicated player base, but I think after Masthead fixes the bugs it will climb up to EVE's level with several hundred thousand players. Why do I think ER will and DF won't? Because even though DF got alot of things fixed, it was always somewhat doomed b/c of the core gameplay mechanics and what the devs think a true sandbox is and it will always be very flawed b/c it seems these people purposely want it to not be a very deep game and instead just a shallow pvp game and that's the same problem with MO.

ER ones it gets the bugs fixed will succeed I think because although it will be unpolished the ideas are good, with DF and MO even if they get super polished and get rid of all the bugs (which will probobly never happen) and the devs put in every feature they ever wanted it still wouldn't be good because the devs idea of a good sandbox isn't very good at all imo.

Secondly,

Name a genre that has as much diversity as MMO's?

FPS- Whats so different between all these great Call of duty games compared to pass FPS besides graphics? Aim, shoot, kill, win, or die.

Platforms- What game doesnt copy from super mario or sonic?

Action- Most are button mashers with a different settings and gimicks...

ETC....

Obviousley any game will seem like that if you reduce it to it's core components.  Most MMO's come down to clicking on the guy, spamming your hotbar till one of you falls over, with some pvp and stuff sprinkled in, not to mention like 80% are set in the sam damned high fantasy setting.

THAT"S ENOUGH! GET OUT OF HERE! YOU TUBS OF BEER!

But Mr. Hagelmayer. It's still not over!!!!

Tbh just about anything is better then EVE's combat, even the horribad combat we saw in the video.

You are the sun. The sun doesn't move, this is what it does. You are the Earth. The Earth is here for a start, and then the Earth moves around the sun. And now, we'll have an explanation that simple folks like us can also understand, about immortality. All I ask is that you step with me into the boundlessness, where constancy, quietude and peace, infinite emptiness reign. And just imagine, in this infinite sonorous silence, everywhere is an impenetrable darkness. Here, we only experience general motion, and at first, we don't notice the events that we are witnessing. The brilliant light of the sun always sheds its heat and light on that side of the Earth which is just then turned towards it. And we stand here in it's brilliance. This is the moon. The moon revolves around the Earth.

What is happening? We suddenly see that the disc of the moon, the disc of the moon, on the Sun's flaming sphere, makes an indentation, and this indentation, the dark shadow, grows bigger... and bigger. And as it covers more and more, slowly only a narrow crescent of the sun remains, a dazzling crescent. And at the next moment, the next moment - say that it's around one in the afternoon - a most dramatic turn of event occurs.

At that moment the air suddenly turns cold. Can you feel it? The sky darkens, then goes all dark. The dogs howl, rabbits hunch down, the deer run in panic, run, stampede in fright. And in this awful, incomprehensible dusk, even the birds... the birds too are confused and go to roost. And then... Complete Silence. Everything that lives is still. Are the hills going to march off? Will heaven fall upon us? Will the Earth open under us? We don't know. We don't know, for a total eclipse has come upon us... But... but no need to fear. It's not over. For across the sun's glowing sphere, slowly, the Moon swims away. And the sun once again bursts forth, and to the Earth slowly there comes again light, and warmth again floods the Earth. Deep emotion pierces everyone. They have escaped the weight of darkness.

Hmm, see, the main reason that I like ffa is b/c it just allows more freedom. I don't like how with most ffa games it turns into b/c there are little consequences for pkers. It would be cool to see a game where people could pk, but there would be huge risks for the pk so it's not mindless ganking. With EVE alot of it was high-sec where you technically could people, but you would be blown to smithereens but you still had the choice to. I like that. gankfest. Also (and I know I keep bringing EVE up lol) but that game seems to have a mature community and ffa pvp so it can be done. Also maybe said game wouldn't be full loot, perhaps they could only take like a few things, so it's like a partial loot system, but there is still risk in pvp but you only lose some stuff not everything.

^ That wasn't even a coherent sentence?

To sum it up, everyone thinks you're a retard.

Hmm, no open pvp and player looting I don't like that. I don't think it should be like DF where everyone is PK, but it would be cool if it was open PVP like EVE where there are some places where it's basically impossible to gank without getting killed but you still can try and some less secure areas. And the PK's would have lots of consequences put on them so it's not constant gankfest but still more open. Also loss in PVP is good, maybe there would be an Earthrise  insurance system so not all of your stuff gets lost, just some.

Also the crafting doesn't sound as good as say SWG. I don't like how you're forced to combat.

TBH i'm sick of fantasy and somewhat generic mmo combat, it's annoying and kinda turns me off. I wish there was a proper FPS sandbox (no not shallow crap-fests like MO and DF) with the depth of EVE or SWG, maybe it would have a Tabula Rasa combat system and it would be good. Just not fantasy hotbar spam-fests please! Earthrise looks like it could be bad but recent events such as the awful beta video make me increasingly skeptical of the game. Plus the fact that it's releasing in Feb even though it doesn't look close to being finished. It makes me think it will release as an incomplete mess and be doomed to the fates of all the other half-done games that had tons of potential.

Which do you like more? I say SWG mainly b/c of the better crafting and the fact that there seemed to be more non-combat stuff to do.

Yeah as long as it's as deep as EVE but with better combat it will rock.

http://www.mmorpg.com/showFeature.cfm/feature/4852/Bill-Murphy-Prognostications-for-2011.html

I have to agree with this:  Earthrise will not make a huge splash when it launches in February. It will have its share of problems that normally plague releases from small studios (bugs, stability, etc.). But, much like Fallen Earth before it, the talented and dedicated staff will turn this interesting player-driven title into a diamond by the end of the year. It will be a niche title, but unlike major releases, it doesn’t aspire to be more than that and its fans will be numerous and rabid like CCP’s in time.

What exactly are the sandbox features of ths game? Can I build a city and concur territory like EVE, become a pure crafter like SWG? What is sandbox?

Bootcamp won't work is Parralels 6 ok will I have ok frame rate?
