I think that mmo's are the farthest of the game genres from being art. Why? Because they are open, I think by definition art must be a controled experience, in an mmo the game can take many different paths and players can reach different ends. Imagine if there were many paths the story could take in Romeo in Juliet, if completely different things happened each time, it wouldn't be art because art is a controled experience.

Don't get me wrong, i love games, but i simply think they are not an art form or atleast not high art. i mean look at games with supposeadely great narratives, Nioshock, Mass Effect ect. All of these games' narratives are on par with a slightly above average movie but no whare near fantastc. the plots in them are ment to be interesting but not neccisarily to explore complex themes like other art forms do. I guess the reason why I have this opinion is because games, by definition, bust be entertaining whare as in my opinion the best films and books ect. are not. Just take a look a Ulyssees (sp?) one of the greatest books ever written, but it's torture to read. What do you guys think? Why?

Can I download a newer version for my Dell motherboardthing in the same way I can download a newer version of my Gforce 7600 graphics card? 1 more thing. My game is lagging, bad, is their anything can do to make it run faster besides lowering gfx settings. Like tweaking stuff on my Nividea control panel?

Magnolia

I just thought it would be interesting to make a poll like this.

Has anyone ever heard of this movie. It's my favorite movie? It's from Charli Kauffman, the mind behind Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. You have to see it. It's basically about a guy who builds a life size replica of New York City inside a warehouse in NYC and populates it with thousands of actors that all play people living in the real NYC and theirs a warehouse within the warehouse b/c their's the warehouse in NYC and then within that theirs another one and so on and so forth and their are actors playing actors and actors playing those actors and it's all quite confusing. You know what it's way to hard to explain you just have to see it.

Here is the trailer: http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=synecdoche%20new%20york&hl=en&source=vgc&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wv#

I agree. If someone somehow combined FPS action (as opposed to boring point/click WoW style fighting) and EVE style sandbox freedom all in a scifi setting, it could be the most awsome thing ever. However I doubt it will happen for a while.

In my opinion "innovative" would be a game where the players can change the world.

I've played million First Person Shooter games. Making a First Person Shooter with 3K people on a server instead of 64 doesn't really seem innovative to me. I can't shoot people fast enough, and I die plenty with a 32 vs 32 player game. I don't really need a 1,500 vs 1,500 game for a first person shooter to be fun. It's already fun, till my fingers hurt from shooting, and then I need to take a break.

I'm not interested in MMOFPS games, I'm insterested in the evolution of the mmoRPG.

Two game's on that list are in that catagory, Mortal Online and Earthrise so keep your fingers crossed that atleast 1 of those is good.

Global Agenda, The Agency, and Huxley- sure they may be instanced and themepark-y but they are atleast going against the grain by breaking away from the point and click fantasy thing. Fallen Earth-Sandbox and FPS elements wrapped up in a cool setting, pretty cool! Mortal Online-Darkfall the good version? I think so. And peraps the best looking one of all, Earthrise, basically Eve on the ground with awsome graphics and dynamic FPS like combat. (BTW ER had some bad gameplay videos but they have upgraded the combat now and changed some things so it's fine.)

So looks like mmo's might just break out of the mold in the next year or 2.

Edit: The Agency isn't indie btw.

Everyday I come on here and here some guy talking about how superior UO or EQ is then modern mmo's and they are, but it looks better all these years afterwards. The fact is NO mmo has ever been what the genre should and easily could be. I think people like the idea of mmo's, not mmo's.

I think the future of the mmo industry may be in like indie companies with lots of creativity and as they say http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=617lGZjYyNo.

I need it to play on xbox which only works with windows media player 11.

I want to watch lost season 5 but it's not out on dvd yet, so I want to download it and transfer it to my xbox 360 which I know how to do. So I downloaded it from some sight but it wasn't compatible with Windows media player 11 or something. And every other sight that I can download it from makes me pay for it or sighn up for something. Does anyone know of a sight with freetv episodes to download without paying/sighning up for something?

What video card do you have? Some video cards have HDMI which you can attatch to your tv. Or, do you have an xbox 360? You can stream videos from your pc to your xbox 360.

How do I do that??

Is their a way whare I can get a cable or something to hook up to my tv from my computer to watch shows that i'm straming/downloaded on their? Because I want to watch lost season 5 but it's not out yet. How much isthe cable or whatever?

I think MMO's have a potential that has never been tapped into due to lack of creativity. This lack of creativity comes from people thinking that mmo's have to follow the rules set by WoW and EQ. I think developers need to forget about every mmo convention ever concieved and just start over. Like I think if a developer made an mmo and he had never played one before, and he didn't know about any mmo conventions it would be great because in his mind he has no "rules" tofollow allowing him to do whatever he wants.

It's in closed beta, but it came out years ago...I don't get it.

Or do people just like the idea of an mmo, but not the product? Discuss.

Aww, I want to see his idea. :(
