No, He genuinely made himself look like an 'asshat' he essentially went up and said if he showed the emotes right now people would throw money at him to get them.  Which I mean if you take it IN CONTEXT of him being a funny sarcastic guy... it's funny.  However, most people don't know him as he pointed out, and he came off as a pretentious 'suit'.

What you actually trust a developer that takes 500m and makes a freakin instanced session game?

What did you think the people who invented and made Halo would create?

Temper your expectations in the forge that is reality.

I don't understand, so people are upset that there are emotes you can't have unless you pay 40 bucks?

Who cares?  They're emotes!

How is this a controversy?

DX12 should bring more equality to the table and less " exclusive " features that seem to crop up.

I really freaking hope so.

Dx12, the thing we're all pining our futures on.  or 'Can we please get a multi-core ready DX up in this?'

Rocky and Bullwinkle anyone?

Ah all the fond memories of watching the live stream, them swearing up and down 'we're gamers too we don't want this game to be pay to win!'.

Ah I'm such a fool, why did I believe them?

@OP, are you referring to Salem The Game? Because that's the only sandbox that has all the features listed above.

Official launch was 19th June (5 days ago) and I invite everyone to check it out.

Here's the link to the official site

while here is a trailer made by a player

Clearly not, he said at the end that you 'cleverly' edited out it was 'the longest running mmo'

If there is one thing that comparing RL to most sandbox games proves, is that just plopping down tools and systems does not make for a world that people want to play in.  Even the sandbox game of RL has quests, backstory, and people doing the boring stuff (npcs) that most players don't find enjoyable to do on a daily basis.

Exactly, if RL was so amazing we wouldn't be on this site looking for a game to play to not play real life.

OP what were you thinking?  hehe :-D

ah, now they are the underdog again?

sorry, but after hearing years of "AMD TOTALY KICKS NVIDIA'S ASSSSSS!" from random fanbois, this underdog thing is kinda.... not valid anymore :)

Fanboys are fanboys... that doesn't make for 'facts.

Fact is AMD has ALWAYS been the underdog, has ALWAYS has less market share and has ALWAYS had less money.

Facts, not fanboys statements are what we base discussion off of here, at least for the most part.

Here's a quote for you

"JPR’s data isn’t the only point in favor of Nvidia. Steam’s hardware survey has long shown Nvidia to be dominant, and the latest trends only reinforce that position. As of February 2015 only 28.6 percent of Steam gamers have an AMD video card, compared to 51.8 percent for Nvidia, and the red team’s share has decreased from just over 32 percent two years ago.

So data has 'long shown Nvidia to be dominant'  Seems like AMD would therefore be 'The underdog'.

after that, that user is usualy healed of the AMD idea.

Pretty much this.

I don't see how NVidia is the evil empire. They make good stuff.

Guess you haven't been paying attention to G-sync and other such things that will essentially make it so if you aren't running Nvidia on Nvidia based products then you are going to have a bad time. Nvidia has been making game makers 'optimize' games for years so they run 'better' on Nvidia systems.  Nvidia now is having you buy a monitor to match the card you're buying, and if you are trying to run AMD with these things it will just slow everything down because the code isn't 'optimized' for AMD.    Nvidia has always had the money to convince developers to make an unfair playing field for those two companies.

So the underdog can't compete against the evil empire that is cornering the market through sneaky tactics.  Even with all their honest marketing and transparent corporate intentions they just can't compete with $$$$$.  Seems like the oldest tale ever told.

Full loot  - a PROVEN Niche, look at how every full loot game couldn't even manage to break 1m players if they combined their player bases.

Players can attempt to do whatever they want (total freedom and consequences)  Freedom people love, consequences not so much, that's why we play games to have risk vs reward be imaginary and typically we get more reward than risk, hence why it's fun.

Player driven economy.  Few games have managed to pull this off, and the real world (which yes we all know that is what you are talking about) has been screwing up the economy ever since man first started walking.  The Rich keep getting richer while never producing anything and sitting around enjoying their wealth.  The poor work hard and get paid less every day, these are facts, and they aren't fun.

Perma death.  Again, EXTREMELY Niche crowd, look at all the perma death players on D2,D3, and every other game similar to it combined. You'd get less than 1million players.  It's just not fun for a lot of people, too much risk, not enough reward.

The game cannot end (there is no endgame with too many ways it can be played)  People like goals, people like breaking glass ceilings.  That's what theme park style games give them the illusion of. Real life you have a goal, you have an endgame, retirement.  So your incorrect in this one.

The graphics are the best we've seen.  I guess that depends on how good your eyes are. Ultimately though graphics vs gameplay we all know who wins.

There are thousands of skills/professions one can master.  10k hours is what it takes to 'master' something IRL, you don't have enough time IRL to 'master' thousands of professions.  Sure you have the option to do so, but that's not the same as doing it.  Also, many of those skills are useless, I.E. speaking Latin or Holy Roman Empire studies, or Philosophy.

The world is fully open world with 100% uptime and no bugs, exploits, hacking or lag.  I dunno about you, but I see exploits on a daily basis, lets look at politics and economics.  Hacking?  Yeah people get hacked every day...

The game is 100% player driven. NPC's are not needed. Stories/quests are not needed since players create their own stories/quests for others.   Creating your own story is an option, so is reading a book, there is a reason why people like books.  Many of them aren't too creative.  Isn't 'retirement' a quest?  Isn't learning how to take care of yourself a questline? Etc.?

The best part of this MMORPG is that it's been running the longest of all and it has biggest population than ever. It has proven that its formula is working if not perfectly. So, by now you already figured which MMORPG I'm talking about. So, why developers are not COPYING this? If they copied half of its features they would see instant success. Any player has also freedom to quit this game at any time they wish, but only 0.001% have chosen to do which just further proves how great it is.

Why don't developers copy real life?

Because you can't do real life better than real life already is.  Also Second life is already trying to.

I never bought the PS4 collectors edition. I am a veteran though because i played 1.0 and maybe PS4 version was free for us? Of cause i played it when it came out, how would i know how bad it is if i was not there from the beginning?

If i had a low level character you would have said: "You never got to end game how do you know anything about it". I really don't see you making a convincing argument or any argument at all so let's just leave it at that.

Everyone who bought the first C.E. when it came out in 2010 got all the following C.E. bonuses after the fact.  So Snuffles didn't buy the PS4 collectors edition he just got it like a lot of other people did, by buying in early.

Dear people asking for FF14 to be FF11.  Why aren't you playing 11?

What made you not play 14 when it first launched, when it was VERY sandboxy and very similar to 11?

Why aren't you out there asking for more games like original EQ?  (As that's what FF11 emulated)

The game is still bad even if it was F2P nothing can change that. You are making assumptions from a post that says something completely different.

Let me make it clear for you once more: I can play for free during these campaigns to keep up with the story/gear and when it eventually becomes a good game i am ready to go. It might never become a good game since that Yoshi guy is a collossal idiot that has a hard on for tank swapping and "synchronous jump rope" boss fights but you know, never say never.

PS: I am happily playing FFXI for 12 years and been subscribed for that long because it is a good game. I was subscribed to various games over the years even to FFXIV 1.0/1.5 and i am Legacy status. But the current state of the game for me is not worth a subscription.

What would make FFXIV a 'good game' in your opinion?

They made hots and dots effected by skill speed / haste, that was a MASSIVE backend serverside undertaking that they did directly because of player demand.

They made raiding have levels so that way people can play competitively OR casually, again, directly due to their players asking for it.

How about flying?  OH their player based asked for it directly?

Perhaps if you have a complaint, you should voice it, ask for it to be changed, rather than just saying vague issues that can't be resolved?

Just a suggestion.

When forumers use sandbox they mean "A game that is exactly how I want", especially if it has FFA PvP.

I think a bunch of them fall into two categories:  1. Those who want a UO clone in 3D with modern graphics, or 2. Those who want a SWG clone that hasn't been gutted and turned into a themepark.

Maybe not so much on the FFA PVP emphasis from the SWG people, and definitely not full loot for them.  This is probably the closest fit (of the ones you mentioned) for me personally (in my thinking of MMORPG Sandbox).

This is pretty accurate I think when most people say they want to play a sandbox mmo what they mean.

The people who didn't enjoy those games or haven't played them probably are thinking more like Minecraft but massive scale.  Which if you think about it is a full loot game.

I see a lot of misconceptions here.

If a game starts out Themepark, it starts adding in sandbox elements slowly to keep people playing.  Lets look at WoW, and garrisons, or battle pets, or pets, or achievements, or really a whole slew of play your own way rather than on the rails gameplay they have added over the years.

If a game starts out Sandbox, it becomes themeparky by it's natural order of progress, by adding in more and more content to a sandbox the sand castles become themeparks.  Look at Minecraft, THE SANDBOX, I doubt you'll find anyone disputing that.  Yet it slowly added in traditionally themeparky elements over the years, dungeons, exp, things to spend it on.  etc.

They aren't incompatible, nor are they really accurate descriptions, but we still keep using them.

I had a similar problem to you, however, i found that at certain times on certain days that you could create a character on any server.

They rotate character creation restrictions every 3-4 hours a day.  It is a bit mismanaged and annoying, no doubt.

I honestly don't know what a F2P conversion would do.

How are they monetizing now?  Is it still box + sub?

Ya they brought the box price way down I think I've heard people saying its $10-$15 on steam plus the usual $14.something a month sub... I bought it years ago at $39 I think...

There's no box price, you just pay the subscription and you can play for the month.

Still most people have switched to Mortal Online because that game gets weekly updates...

They have a cash shop already with Cosmetic things in them, you can also buy in game time with gold  like how EvE has Plex.

The reason DF is failing is because they scrapped their game after a huge development cycle just to start all over again and now a few years into this one they're finally getting closer to where the game was when it died the first time but the money is drying up and the rate of the content patches has slowed down to a trickle.

This coupled with the constant distraction of a reboot to the old 1.0 version of DF (which AV admits they were actually contemplating and until recently had some people working on it on the back burner) has really screwed DF.

It's sad because it was really a unique and great game.

What are the probabilities of a new game engine in this massive expansion?

Agreed. That game engine is something awful. Keeps me from wanting to play this game again.

Nothing stated as of yet.  Some people are hoping it might be happening behind the scenes.

That seems like a "really-pretty-much-non-existent-long-shot" . Something like this would be huge and since we are talking about EA, this is what they would have shown or at least brag about.

It's E3, the place/time when the whole world is watching. Why announce something that big only after?

Not to mention at this point changing engines would be akin to changing consoles.  That would be like the ex pack to Dragon Age Inquisition coming out on PS5, or IOS after only being on Android.  They'd have to literally write code from scratch and redesign from the ground up, it would never ever happen, and after the years of optimization it doesn't need to happen.

Literally like asking if you could change the sky to red because you're tired of blue, simply insanely impossible.

I hate to disagree at least a little...

Dishonored 2 is a really new IP... I mean do you really want them to make a new 'dishonored' style IP every few years?  I mean we know what these game makers specialties are, they could 'rename' them and mix up the mechanics a bit but we'd still get Ubisoft making Assassin creedy things, I mean they always did, look at their previous work..

ID/Bethesda making First person shooter type games that have varying degrees of story and focus on mechanics or roleplay?  I mean we'd still get games LIKE 'Doom' and 'Fallout'/'Elderscrolls' Look at Fallout 3 vs 2.  When Beth got a hold of it they changed the style to suit their specialty.

So my point is, does a rose by any other name smell not as sweet?

Who cares what the name and setting are as long as the thing is fun!
