Definitely. Would love a game to have features like that in a setting like TSW offers. Would have been awesome.

Other than a portion of the quests that are "investigative" and require the use of the environment to solve them (or just yelling out in general chat), what makes TSW unique?

That isn't enough? Using the environment, researching things, or solving riddles/puzzles for some of the quests seems like a lot of fun and rather unique compared to questing offered in most mmos to me. I simply wish the game concentrated more on those types myself.

I don't know what game the OP was playing, but my experiences differed on every account.  For me, GW2 is the best game since UO and EQ2 and yes...WoW.

OP, if you don't like it, don't play it.  There are going to be too many people playing to miss you.  And just because you don't know anyone in "real life" that likes GW2, doesn't mean there aren't any of us.  You don't know very many people in the world, I mean....be serious.  What a ridiculous thing to say, as if you know everyone in "real life."

GW2 is going to be a blast for those of us that are playing it.  Last night's stress test went by like it was only an hour.  That game just gobbles up time with FUN.  If you don't like it....I'm sorry, but that's not going to keep other people from liking it.  You're just not that all powerful. lol

Your thread title is what's idiotic, by the way.  Your post shows some thought and even though it's negative, at least it's probably honest for YOU. But your thread title is out and out moronic and makes it SOUND like it's going to be nothing but a two bit troll thread.

This is a guy that made a post saying GW2 still has the trinity and essentially every class in the game is the same as WoW's druid class.

You really cannot take anything he says about this game remotely serious. Good for laughs...that's about it.

TSW has a unique formula, no doubt and as theme parks go it's better than many many many others.  I hope that the adventure style quest is carried over and evolved, because it's certainly great (and at times frustrating as hell lol).

I would love to see a game utilize the questing formula from TSW, the DE's from GW2, and phasing from WoW. I think if companies evolved and refined those three concepts plus moved away from the standard medieval fantasy setting there could be some pretty sweet mmos made down the road.

I am a lifetime subber as well and I find the game to be quite lacking at the moment.

As I sit here and dwell on it I find myself wishing I could be playing GW2 right now not TSW.

My friends and I had a pretty good discusion about TSW, whereas we find the game good, and some features of it to be what we have been wanting in an MMO, we find the desire to login lacking and the ability of the game to pull us in and immerse us to be totally failing at the moment..

AoC for all it's faults, pulled you into your avatar, immersed you made you want to play the game even if the game was in serious trouble past level 20.

I understand this is still a beta client and I do expect some improvement between now and release, but I am also a realist and realize for the most part this is the game we will be playing at release.

Now before the kiddies running around screaming how they believe in faries start bashing me saying how they are holding back another client that is totally different and has every bug and every network issue fixed, well sorry but Santa Clause does not exsist and there is no such thing as faries.

Can't say I felt that way at all about AOC. That game was a tragedy on so many levels including immersion to me. I felt a lot more immersed in this game than I ever did  AOC.

As to the OP, that review is awful. No one is going to take a write up like that remotely serious. Try to be a bit more grounded next time for christ's sake. Your score doesn't even really correlate with your write up. Should have given it a 9.5 and submitted it to mmorpg.com. With the way they seem to review games when they first release you should be a shoe in for a job. I will say one thing. Certainly weren't lying when you said biased...gheesh

Hello Famine...still lurking I see. Goddamn you've been with Funcom a long time now. How is that happening? They hiding you in the basement or something?

:P

This is another proof of Abet geniality. The don't need to launch the game the can keep selling the game and selling gems without need to worry about launch. They can keep the game in beta during months or years and sell the game at the same time.

That is completely genial. I'm sure in the future we will see a lot more of this.

 XD

Never going to happen but man it would be funny as hell to see these forums if Anet came out with an announcement and said they were going to hold off launching until some time in 2013.

Oh.

My.

God.

That would be hilarious....the levels of rage that would ensue...

Shouldn't.

Anyone that thought this game was going to be coming out this month or next month was fooling themselves. Sure they'll have one soon probably shortly after the next BWE or the following one. I mean what did people expect? They didn't have one when they prepurchased it to begin with and never gave a set time they would have one.

To be honest I understand a lot of OP's sentiments. It's a good example how riding the waves of hype can be painful when promises don't match reality.

This time around I personally didn't fall for any of it before I got to play it and because of that more sceptical outlook I found myself to be more open to its positives too. Like the delightfully immersive surroundings.

But yeah, there are negatives and they haven't even started to sink in with most people. Let alone the fact that this game is not  the "paradigm shift" some people made it out be: it's pretty much a cookie cutter themepark. We'll have to give it a few months time post launch before everyone realizes this.

First of all this is rather amusing coming from you considering how you were about SWTOR until you came back down to planet earth. That was probably a lot better example of what you mention than this poster.

Especially when you consider this poster has been fairly negative towards this game all along.

Not that there isn't plenty to be sceptical about nor do I think this is "Jesus walking on water" video game shit. But I would rather hear about it from someone that tends to be grounded in reality and doesn't already appear to have a bone to pick with the game for whatever fucked up reason.

This game is a hybrid though no doubt, just not hybrid sandbox and themepark. I just think people aren't looking for the right word.  It's a hybrid themepark mmo/adventure game, and I think that's the audience it's catering too.  People who enjoyed Dreamfall or similiar games.

agreed and agree with your post above about the skill system.. still amazes me how people feel this is a sandbox hybrid but more power to them, if they enjoy it guess that's all that really matters

I don't know. I can get that more than the few complaining this game is a WoW clone. Gotta say that one blows my mind. Really are some that will call any themepark oriented game a WoW clone no matter what.

All I can say is I had an awesoem amount of fun testing this over the weekend a lot more fun than I had in the SWTOR beta and a lot roe fun that i have had in the GW2(jesus2) closed beta..

Thats what counts for me so ill be playing and i know thousands of others will be as well. If you dont like it fair enough... we all like different things.

I did too. I got the same vibe from the game though as with SWTOR that it would probably only be a short term venture for me due to how story focused it is but overall I had a lot of fun with the game. A lot more than I did with SWTOR. Think the setting and the way some of the quests are designed had a lot to do with this.

Gotta say though. Looking through some of these topics there really seem there are going to be some pretentious pricks playing this game that for whatever reason seem to think they're better or smarter than everyone else. Thankfully, it didn't really seem to be an issue over the weekend in game but man...some around here really need a reality check

Hmm, if this game is really going to launch in June, no part of it should still be under NDA at this point, still seems like typical Funcom trying to cover up the flaw that will be there when it goes live.

Definitely waiting until launch to see the full monty before purchasing.

That is the thing that gets me. It just doesn't give a lot of reassurance especially with this company's track record. I think there are more than a few that are doing the same and are rather skeptical with things being kept so hush hush this close to the game's release.

Never got around to checking this out yet. If someone has a spare guest pass I would appreciate it. Thanks,

Hard to say with seeing so little. Potential is there for it to be short term. but without seeing how grouping is handled, content updates, other zones, end game, and PvP it is hard to say if it will suffer short timer syndrome with the majority of players or if they will have the tools in place to keep people around.

So cosmetic clothing is P2W? Please do us all a favor and dont play this game, we don't need your kind.

Seriously man? Guy even complimented the game overall just gave his honest opinion as to why he won't be purchasing it. I don't agree but no reason to go there. Can't say having "your kind" in this game is going to be a real thrill judging by your attitude towards things.

Well I never said I was clever, I never brought up WoW, so not sure where WoW came from?  I did say perhaps I'm one of the only ones who got it, ie took the time to read the post.  You are the one going off on it.

You are needlessly rude and defensive and attacking me for no reason, I'll give you that :)

Not that I agree with his senseless swipe at you but frankly I doubt you're far from the only one that got it. Probably just one of the few that found it amusing.

Dunno, I played pretty casualy, had dinners, a long lunch in the pub, a TV night and various other comitments and did everything that was open twice. It's a wee bit of a worry as this probably represents about 10% of the content (3 areas of 3 zones each)

Yeah can't say  I had trouble completing everything either. I really enjoyed it, but I don't think it was as much content as some imply it to be.

The Orochi Agents are at the north end of the map...almost the very top where there is a road that goes off map. They were locked of course other than for conversation.

Ah now I remember. Yeah saw them on the map but figured they would be locked since it seemed others in area were so never checked them out. Forgot about that.

That really seems odd. That really isn't going to open up much more than what they already have.

No it doesnt actually, your beta weekends are the stress test. You cant stress test unless you confine people to ne area.

Please, there are plenty of stress tests done in games where it isn't simply confined to one area so yeah...that doesn't fly. Not that I really care a ton anyways. Said it was odd is all.

Kingsmith is the first area for all three factions, probably has way more development tender loving care than anything else and is supposedly 1/8th of the game anyway.  Doesn't seem odd at all, I'm sure if they allowed full access there would be a hand full of players that could complete close to 100% of the games content in a beta weekend session or at least exhaust the main story and then the game would be in trouble.  Doesn't seem odd as they did it for Tortage but I'm unsure why the factions are locked as that is a 10 minute intro quest.

I'm just skeptical that this will be more like hell gate 2 and less like myst the RPG.  If reports are correct and Kingsmith is one of 8 zones than you have a larger percentage of content than most open betas, so why complain?

Jesus Christ do some of you get over defensive and jump to conclusions. I didn't complain and I never said we should have full access.

Wow...

You mean content-wise?  yeah, I don't remember there being much left.  Just those 2 NPC's and the main story.  Maybe they've added more NPC's?  Maybe "The Hunger" actually works, now?

Careful...apparently feeling this sentiment can cause some to accuse you of feeling the whole game should be available to play until launch.

>_>

Yeah, don't actually think the main story will be unlocked any further this weekend. Does sound like those two will be unlocked now along with the item quests. Have to say didn't see the other two mentioned - the Orochi agents. Wondering if I just missed them or they didn't have quest icons associated with them yet. Probably just missed them somehow I suppose.

I'll agree with some of the posts here that the total absence of hand-holding was at first bewildering. I mean, it's a beta. There are tutorials (i.e. Help), right? Nope. Not a one.

Wtf is this? Was I playing a different game? Where are some of you getting this notion there weren't any tutorials or handholding going on in the beginning portions?
