There is no particular use to this feature. I understand why people want to play females and such, but what is the point of changing your voice?

What would be the point in saving a game if you are dead? I don't believe the whole 2012 thing it is nothing but the next Y2K.

The Y2K was actually real. Well not the world ending part, but system did has problem and would have been bigger if most system had not upgrade prior to this. 2012 is just a myth, nothing is going to happen that day..the Mayans has what like 11 calanders, why would this one be so special :P

Anyhow on topic....well knowing me I have no choice in that an faith just leave me with fallout 3 or some other end of the world game.

I do not play this game, but who cares how many  actual player there are. You enjoy the game, there are always enough peeps online and CCP get the money off 300k accounts. Everyone wins.

I'm actually surprised you don't have to pre-order or be a subscriber to fileplanet to get into the open beta, which I belive is the "norm" now.  If not, then kudos to Cryptic.  A little of my faith is restored into the company.

From there main page

Redeem Your Beta Key for Star Trek Online
Thank you for pre-ordering Star Trek Online! On this page you’ll be able to redeem your beta key to guarantee your access to the Star Trek Online Open Beta.
Please note: Open Beta has not yet begun. Check back on the Star Trek Online website for updates on when Open Beta begins.
Please enter your beta key below. Since you’re not logged in, you’ll be prompted to create an account. If you already have a Cryptic account, please log in now.

It either will become a good game or just COD where you character gets XP and you can buy upgrades, while paying 15 dollars a month. I hope the first, because we could do with a good FPS game.

Disclaimer: this is a joke (and its sad that i actually do have to put that)

Clearly I have more stars then you! Anyhow shamefully some people do really think like this. Folks who played UO (Some though), who think they have the sole power to decide how the MMO market should be running. Newsflash to those poeple: It are the programmers back then who are ruining the market right now. Garriott (Ultima Online series), Smedley (Orginal everquest), etc. So yes, being a veteran does not directly mean your ideas are any better.

Stop destroying this genre.

Your killing me, your killing us.

Real gamers are becoming extinct because of these mega companies with the suits dictating how a game should be made.

2020, real gamers become extinct.

Like cold lemonade, we both got stomach aches.

Games companies like Blizzard are good for the genre and attract a lot of people. They might not take the genre the direction you and I would like, but that does not make those 10 million players any less of a gamer. Thinking so is just retarted and slightly elitist.

I really do not understand the fuzz. As a gamer you are given a choice to play this game or not. If you like so and want to play a female character you KNOW beforehand that your have to submit to this. It's not that this game has an monopoly on the MMO market and that there is not enough to choice from.

Beside that I do understand the move. I must imagine it must be hard to compete in the Asian MMO market with all those mmo's. So you do something drastic with get's you in the news and appeal to a certain group of players (Those who dislike man playing female toons). I do not see what it's odd that a company appeals to an certain type of players at all. Every game does so and I think this is rather innovating (I disagree with it though and do not see the point!) and might get them those players into the game.

Ye....trying something 2 times (If you can do it twice, then clearly it is repeatable) is enough, 3 times then your really sure. Anything more is just exploiting. Like stealing and then returning it. So I wonder how often did you "test" it?

I wouldn't hold our hope for a "pure" sandbox, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was a few sandboxxy elements in it.

^ This ^

Blizzard will do what they do best and steal ideas from other games and intergrate them into one game (With is not a bad thing!). So changes are you see a some elements from sandbox games with will give the players more freedom then that WoW gives, but not a lot.

About 1 to 1,5 years ago they where talking about expending into Las Vegas.

So AION had the same problems as WoW had at launch. That is what this thread is telling me and the does not encourage me to even try the game, that after 5 years people still make the same errors!

My perfect MMO would not have classes. I like the way PS and WWIIOnline work. You rank increased and you can use more weapons/tools.

I think the problem with past reviews is that it has been left up to the reviewer as to how to grant the final score.  This also creates a problem because even though scores here are on a scale of 1 - 10, most scores end up between 6 - 10.  Anything lower is usually reserved for anything so bad that a low score is given for the sake of giving a low score.  In fact, I would suggest MMORPG.com move to a 4 or 5 star rating system (being that 5-6 on a 10 pt scale is considered low even though it really is average).

you know why this is though... for Americans, 12 years of  school grading tells us 90-100 is great, 80-90 is good, 70-80 is ok, and anything lower is bad. so we automatically react to scores for anything else the same way. if you want a system where the entire range is useful, drop the stars completely and just go with Definitely Recommended, Highly Recommended, Recommended, Recommended with Reservations, etc.... (as you are more or less suggesting with a 1-5 scale).

You know, that makes perfect sense and something I've never thought about.  Getting rid of any numeric ranking may be the best way to go - as that is purely the most subjective part of the review.  That alone would solve a lot of problems.  If the site used such a ranking system, I imagine if the original review was slapped with a "Recommended" we wouldn't be having this conversation (especially considering most level headed fallen earth fans know the game isn't for everyone).

I think Recommended with Reservations would even have fitted the review (and hell that is the advice I would give to anyone for this game even though I love it myself :P)

As long as all the life time subscription and 6 month subscription buyers get in BEFORE anyone else, even if it takes them 5 wave of invites to get everyone in, I'm cool with that.  It's if they go OUTSIDE that pool to let others in first is where I feel I got screwed.

[23:46] <~bizarro_rekhan> I will say that in this wave of invites, we invited people who were lifetimers and 6-monthers. we also invited people who weren't.

I bought a lifetime sub to CO because I actually enjoy the game (despite some issues). The beta invite was merely a nice bonus for me that will possibly let me "save" 50 bucks later if I decide STO isn't for me.

It never said on the offer that you'd get in first. I never assumed that at all. The only thing I assumed was that I WOULD get an invite the "Closed Beta" part of beta, which can be a very long period of time, or very short.

I expect they invited active community members and maybe some folks who did some good testing in CO as well. That would make sense. I believe those folks have more right to be in the first wave then folks who got a subscription for CO.

People don't come to review site to read about one person's "opinion", they come to read about the strengths and weaknesses of the game in question. An opinion has little weight in a professional review.

I disagree. If I wanted to have a sum up of it's features I would read the main site. I read a review for the opinion of the writer about the features. It is imposible to write a objective review, because what person A find a strength in the game (take the zoned PvP) is weakness for person B (A fan of full PvP).

Never liked mmorpg.com's reviews myself or any of their features, the news is well behind and things like the podcast arn't even running anymore. However people are always gonna whine about reviews cause this is where all the fanbois will come. I thought the score was abit high myself from playing it the graphics and animations were horrible and the combat was just unplayable and the UI was nast ad the world was too barren... not even player housing in the game to make up for it.

Was a horrible game tbh.

Well I am a fan of the game myself and I do not mind a low score as it is just an opinion and I did believe the review was spot on. However the grade it got did not reflect the review. So either the grade was to low or the review to positive. So I do find it shamefull that the review got take down as it was pretty good, just hoped the way he graded the game would have become a bit more transparent.

Also to the folks saying the fans where complaining. Rightly so. If a review does something wrong people should complain about it (do even not believe it where just fans of the game). I would not mind if the next reviewer give a good review, but is negative and gives a low score. A mistake was made however, whatever it was the reviewer, editor or MMORPG.com policies regarding grading of the MMO's. They learned (and are still learning hopefully) and the site will get better for it.

Would again like to add though that I did like the orginal review and hope that one will get back online!

Seems to be the best place to pre-order to me.

I think a world is going to be destroyed in 2012. The Mayan clearly saw in there visions the WoW is going to die!
