EVE Online: A Future Vision - Commentary
News Discussion « General Discussion 4/02/11 12:46:11 AM
I play Eve. I love Eve. Nothing in that video is ever going to happen. Dust, if it is ever released, will flop because it's going to be a console shooter that becomes forgotten as soon as the new shiny comes out after its release. Console kiddies are the most ADHD people on the planet so the fact that they are spending so much development time on something doomed to fail is depressing. |

Originally posted by Phry Either he never played or he never left high sec space. Most people I know that hate Eve played the trial for a couple weeks and did nothing but run missions (which are horrible) or mined (which is even worse). Eve allows you to do almost anything you want including scamming. Why do so many people limit themselves to the two worst things in the game and then complain that it's boring? |

Goons are now in charge of the Council of Stellar Management so fun times are surely coming! |

It's really not difficult to get a character into a big nullsec alliance. I start new characters all the time to use as spies and have been able to get in several corps without too much effort. Find an alliance that you're interested in and check out their corporations' description for recruiting info and convo the recruiters. |

Hulkageddon event prizes for tears - Are they trying to get done for griefing?

Credit should be given to CCP for the work they have put in to solving the problem of lag in large fleet battles in 0.0 space. I've been fighting IT Alliance and their pets in Fountain for the last few weeks and the fights are so much better than they were even a few months ago. We've been having fights with between 800-1000 people and while there is still some lag it isn't keeping us from fighting. Guns don't get stuck, jumping through gates doesn't end up in a frozen client, logistics reps and ECM are working, etc. There is still *some* lag but I haven't had to restart my client to load grid in quite a while. There is also a Monitor widget in the client that is interesting to watch while you're in big battles. Hit Control-Alt-Shift-M to bring it up and watch the 'Outstanding' tab. It will show you actions that have been queued up and are waiting to be processed by the server. It's great for those times when there is a bit of lag because you don't feel the need to mash buttons to get something to happen which puts added stress on the node. If you were one of the many people who left the game because of the lag you should definitely check it out again. It's not perfect yet but it is much improved. |

Good news, everyone: The end of the learning skills
Jita (General) « EVE Online 12/08/10 1:41:04 AM
Originally posted by Typhado I keep seeing this statement about learning skills adding depth or complexity to the game. Could you explain exactly how? They are skills that make other skills train faster. They don't affect any other part of the game. There's zero complexity there. They basically caused a ton of people to quit the game in their first month because they were told they needed to train learning skills...so they sat in a station in their frigate and did nothing but train learning skills, got bored and quit. Like others have said, you're getting your SP back and your attributes are being bumped so you're not losing anything. It's not dumbing down the game--it's simply removing an awkward mechanic that should never have been put in the game in the first place. |

Originally posted by Teala Since I've been reading these forums I've seen you bring up this issue over and over and over again. I've also seen several people explain to you, in great deal, that it doesn't matter. You can only fly one ship at a time so if a 3+ year vet is running around in a T1 cruiser none of the points he has for battleships is going to help him. If his cruiser is fit with autocannons then none of the skillpoints he has in missiles is going to help him. If you fight him none of the skillpoints he has in trading, manufacturing, inventing, etc are going to help him. People should also stop obsessing about one-on-one encounters between a vicious vet and a poor newbie...the vast majority of encounters in Eve are in gang or fleet fights where a 1-day-old newbie in a rifter can be just as important as the 3-year-old vet in a T3 cruiser. Posters who continue to flog this "omg ull never katch up!!!" point are just making themselves look both ignorant and petty. New players should figure out what they enjoy doing and spend their skills doing that...not worrying that they aren't going to catch up to people when catching up doesn't really matter. |

Originally posted by OldBiker While skill is part of it what people need to understand is that you can only fly one ship at a time so if you're flying a Drake, for example, any skill points you have in Gallente blaster ships isn't going to help you. If a new player starts the game and focuses just on Drake skills when he maxes them out he will be equal to the guy who's been playing for six years and has 50 million+ skillpoints when he's in a Drake. The "oh noes I'll never catch up" argument is stupid and the only people who still bring it up these days are people that have some sort of agenda against the game. Also (to address some other posts in the thread), having the learning skills isn't having the entire game handed to you on a platter...it's just removing a bad game mechanic that never made sense and never fit in with the rest of the game. The amount of hurf blurfing in this thread is amazing. |

This is fantastic news and anybody complaining about the death of learning skills is, quite literally, a sperging neckbeard loser. |

Indiana Jones is obviously Star Warsy and Iconic. The stench of desperation coming from Smed's office must be getting unbearable... |
