A Few Questions About the F.A.T.E. System

It's another dumb way to lead players around by the nose. That's all you need to know.

MMOs are already dead. Only there shadows remain.

The anime .hack//SIGN is on youtube. It has the original Japanese voices with english subtitles. The translation is a lot better than the one used for the official US voice overs. The translation on youtube makes a lot more sense.

It looks fun. What is it going to be like? I've never heard anything but good things about the first PSO
They all it a "multiplayer online RPG." That's what 90% of the games released under the title MMO should be called. At least they are honest |

“Innovation” is destroying community

The OP is right. Everyone saying that community doesn't matter needs to find a new genre.

Apparently the developers of modern MMOs are scared of any meaningful differences between characters. In a specific game, each character you make will be just as good as every other character you make. This is accomplished by eliminating any racial differences (nevermind gender), making each class a hybrid, eliminating mandatory group content, and some other things I will talk about.
A different race is going to have different qualities. There is a quote by Einstein that goes something like..... "If you test a fish and monkey by having them climb a tree you will not know what else a fish can do" (This is usually used to criticize standardized tests). The point is that they are different and do different things. Now look at modern MMOs. Every race can do every class and craft, and everything else, just as well as every other race. It's so false and made up. Not everything is equal. Some races will do some things better than other. The stat differences are negligable and where there are stat differences they do not matter. The differences are purely cosmetic. You're actually only playing one race. Nevermind how shallow the different histories and lore are between the races. Once you have your race you can pick a class. Most classes anymore are hybrids. A tank will have healing and damage dealing capabilities. A dps will have defensive capabilities. A healer will have dps capabilities. This is done to make the player feel "powerful." By powerful I mean you wont have to depend on other characters. For example, a healer wont need a dps, a tank wont need a healer, etc. Even if they do need each other sometimes then it will be the exception and not the rule. If there were real differences then people would need to cooporate to a higher degree. If you chose a certain race then you would be better suited for specific classes. Trying to put together a group requires making choices about who is in it. People of certain race / class combinations would be more valuable than other race / class combinations. So putting together a group would require decisions. In a modern MMO people just say they want this or that class, usually with some flexibility concerning which class they actually want, and that's about as far as it goes. A MMO I am talking about might require you to settle with someone who wanted to play a race / class combination that doesn't go so well together but you NEED that class in your group so you decide to work with them. They may surprise you. Eliminating mandatory group content, and only making grouping preferable, is done to allow everyone to enjoy the meaningless differences between each other. It's ironic that people are CRAZY about character customization but that NONE of the customization actually means anything. If people wanted meaningful differences then they would have to sacrifice and compromise. |

People say they find the old school "Grind" yet if given the option to skip it, would they take it?

I have never heard anyone say "GEE I LOVE GRINDING!!!"
Wow Really.... Who in the hell says something like that? I don't care if you ask an old school or "modern" era gamer. Nobody says I can't wait to spend the next day grinding so that I can gain some levels. If you asked an old school gamer about the grind he might say it's a necessary evil. If you asked a "modern" gamer he might say he wants combat to be faster and doesn't mind grinding as long as the combat is fast paced, but he really just wants to get to the end game.
Wow
WHO HAS EVER SAID I LOVE THE GRIND?! |

The NDA is just there for developers to be a bitch. 90% of the games suck anyways

Originally posted by MMOExposed Since there are other people around, hopefully connecting with them. If everyone's hand isn't being held in the game then they will be able to exchange information about how to do things in the game. They can talk about things they have figured out. Like a quest someone found or a really rare treasure or monster or tactic. fOf course, they could also talk about real world things. If the world is dangerous and, again, your hand isn't being held, then they might be preparing for their next fight. |
