Helpful Criticism: Get rid of cash shops, insta travel, instances, hybrid classes. Make races matter, not just aesthetically. Slow down PVE combat and make it harder. Harsh death penalty. World dungeons and monsters. Make end game less of a focus.

So.... why aren't you playing Rust or Wurm?

How many of those are heavily instanced? How many have insta travel? How many have races that are only different aesthetically? How many are "solo friendly"? How many have no or a virtually non existent death penalty?

I'll give you eve. I don't know anything about EQNL but I'm not holding my breath.

Your fighting a losing battle here mate. They are different. They aren't all MMOs but they are very different. That said more MMOs could be added to that list.

Well I'm looking for a MMO....

If you insist. The majority were already MMOs even if not MMORPGs but I can add more. I'll keep to MMORPGs instead of MMOs

Xenoblade is a single player RPG that gets quests more right for MMOs than modern themeparks do.

There is no more enjoy, desire, to be with other peoples in an ONLINE game to get to a reward?? Better do that with henchman than to loose time and meet some real peoples. The era of " I'll do all alone". Is the society the real problem?? Making all apathetic, rude etc. I think we're in the era of quantity's better than quality. Technology must be a friendly and helping thing, I'm sure this way is not the right way, and if this is the way thing are going, talking about MMOs in future we'll see single player games called online because if you want you can connect and meet someone instanced with you.

Producers no longer know what to do, asking peoples to give a hand to develop is clearly a good example, why after the old school MMO noone can name another one that done something like those and peoples talking abut those that will never came back?? Because society and mentality has changed.

In the time of the: " I want all now and fast " is not possible to ask for something of quality, and many old school peoples will continue to live of false expectations because the crowd of the new era " I want to play a MMO in single player mode " is the most.

What do you think about that??

I miss it as much as you do. Raising the levelcap in a game where horizontal gear progression was a valid option is a death sentence. Today FFXI has that stupid ItemLevel-crap that killed the game for me.

 

If they would offer me a new server with 75 cap and no abyssea or adoulin I would uninstall everything on my harddisk for this holy piece of MMO and start anew.

Yeah a official legacy sever would be nice.

Insta porting has it's place, but not in MMOs.

So now comes the only MMO I know of with open world dungeons, which I love, and everyone starts crying about it? Come on there are DOZENS of MMOs with the instanced dungeons you love. Pick one. Can't we have one MMO with open world dungeons?

Guess again... Its not open world dungeons.... These dungeons are all part of solo personal story experiences... You often cant even get in if you are not on the right step of a quest....  There is nothing truely open world about most of them...

 

i am a big fan of true open world dungeons, but these just arent...    In this time open world dungeons should have open world objectives, but in this game there is only a single solo objective in these small dungeons and nothing else to archieve

 

there is also atleast one larger open world dungeon in each zone.... Offcourse all the above does not reflect on those dungeons

Nope. It's an MMO. Open world dungeon where everyone has access to it in the same time/ place is the only way to go.

If WoW was a clone of EQ then there would be a lot less instances, more group content, like no insta travel, a harsh death penalty, classes that actually depend on each other, races actually mattered etc.

 

Edit: Also there would be no quest markers in WoW and you wouldn't have your hand held from point A to point B ad infinitum. Dungeons would be more complicated.

 

Um ... basing a game on another doesnt mean you copy that game 1:1 in all aspects.

Besides, WoW was, as everybody I met who played it at release assured me, quite difficult in the beginning.

When it was first released I went from level 1-40 in like a week.

You measure difficulty by how fast you reach the level cap? Things are worse than I thought...

Absolutely. If I can run around and kill everything in sight non stop for 40 levels it's easy

How does doing the same for months make it any harder?

Time is irrelevant.

Maybe it's not the same for months. You would have to do other things. Maybe a quest took you days to do (and you didn't get exp for it). Or maybe your party you are leveling with takes some tweaking to make it better. So you tell one of your damage dealers that maybe he should be using this skill more or less and see how that affects the party. Maybe you want to try a really dangerous area that you think will pay off. Maybe you pay dearly for trying this (if there is a harsh death penalty).
