Free Login Weekend

Howdy folks. No one made a thread about this topic; so I felt I'd let everyone know. This weekend previous subscribers who no longer have an active subscription can login into the game and check it out for free.

If anyone wants to drop in on Siren, feel free to give me a call: Vanadrom Arda in-game.

How is marauder leveling compared to conjurer, for example? Do they have a bit more active combat? Would I suffer going through dungeons first time as a tank?

Marauder starts off like every other melee-DPS class, getting the basic Tier 1 Combo Moves and Damage over Time before level 10. The actions will feel very repetitive for a while. As you level up you'll unlock Overpower which is perhaps one of the most entertaining abilities to use on a Warrior. Then as you hit 30 you'll be steadily spoon fed more complex mechanics all based around the new stacks you'll build called "Wrath",

From there on you'll flesh out what you can do with Wrath as you progress to 50. Wrath can be consumed for greater DPS or to instantly heal yourself. You can always shut off the mechanic to just be more DPS-ish with Strength gear and Enrage / Beserk to back you up when you're in Off-Tank mode.

Doing Early-Level dungeons as a main tank will only benefit you as it will give you time to understand some of the important roles of the Tank. Furthermore, optional stuff like Guildheists will give you some basic Tank Training too, not to mention you'll be getting into Dungeons and Guildheists VERY quickly as a tank. If you did pure DPS you'll never get in as there is a huge population of DPS and of course the new Ninja job was just released. Best to be a Tank if you ask me, they are always in demand.

I look at Final Fantasy XIV this way, the combat is indeed fluid and fun at level 50. The leveling progress is much more of a time sink, a mechanism which holds back all of the good abilities from new players and keeps them under lock and key for a good duration of early game play. This creates time-sinks and long term goals. But if you ask me once you actually do hit 50 your impression of combat will radically change. At that point you'll have all of your abilities unlocked and the true potential of the game's combat system begins to open up to you.

Furthermore End-Game content, such as Primal EXs and High-Tier Raids are very-very mechanic heavy. They require you to move in strict coordination with your team. You often will not have time to complete full combat rotation as it is as you're too busy moving all over the arena just avoiding huge arena-filling attacks that come each and every second you play.

The game is a new creature 50+. Fighting trash mods before 50 IS very boring yes, but if you can believe it they are designed to be dull.

Hi there, I'm a current Final Fantasy XIV player looking to be a helping hand to a new player. Yes indeed this also means I'd like to take advantage of the Recruit a Friend Campaign, but note that you'll only receive such items if you enter a specifc code before you register a full purchase version of the game.

One such perk is a EXP bonus item.

Another Perk is that I can share how you can Save 20% on your Purchase of the full game.

I'd really love to help out someone new and spend my time playing with a new pal. The game often forces me to go back to newbie zones anyway so it's no trouble at all. Plus I'd like to try my hand at some new classes. At the same time I want to share my assets with a partner who'd like to try out some of the games nicer features: Primal Battles, PVP, Dungeons, and more.

In order to succeed in the game you really need friends to join you on the journey. Since I'm a returning player a lot of people left me behind so I'd like to rediscover the game with a new friend.

Also I tend to use VPNs: Raidcall & Skype to make things easier for communication sake.

For the record I play CST Times. I have no set hours. But I suppose mostly between 9am to 3am?

So if you'd like more information on the game and maybe some nice perks for dropping in, now is the right time! Please don't hesitate to say hello. PM me or Skype me: loltemperwolf

Well I'm back into it now, lots of stuff to do -- more than you can ever handle in fact. PVP is fun, 2 more primals, lots of duty finder content, you can buy extra retainers now... hmm.. Well overall everything is better. I'd say come back in.
Added some new updates.

Hey folks, I'm looking for people who haven't played the game yet. Mainly trying to find a group of people who'd like some guidance in the game and play every now and then for some good sport. Nothing hardcore, but weekly dedication would be greatly appreciated!

I also host a Raid Call channel for voice & mics to help introduce people and get them started. If you're interested just send me a PM here on MMORPG and we'll get you started. :)

Right now it's a free game to try and play, so you don't have anything to lose.

EDIT #1: Finding friends in Modern MMOs is pretty difficult. Everyone is always doing something and the social element only sticks well with those whom are already playing together. Well what if you're not playing with anyone? That's difficult indeed to find some social outlet.

I've just returned to Final Fantasy XIV and I'm flexible. I'm not exactly bound and devoted to my current server. I enjoy hosting Linkshells so I'm not bound to any Free Companies either as they are lots and lots and lots of politics and drama and never much of anything else.

That said... I really would like either to bring in some new people I can play with and talk to via the recruit system or be introduced to a nice crowd that likes to listen to my stories. I really don't want to push hardcore, I can easily get sunk into the mindset and go too far with it.

So if anyone wants to help me out here let me know. It's not very fun to play alone.

Hyperion (Legacy) = High EPEEN server.

Sargatanas (Legacy) = EPEEN server. (I play there, yay!)

Then there is everything else!

Good thing about Legacy? Cheap starter gear, lots of high levels means easier time leveling in low level zones.

Good thing about Non-Legacy? Lots of people in low levels zone and people are evenly matched for the most part. May take longer to level though.

how did you get gear?

I have 50s already. I leveled up my Archer before I did my lancer, which required I gear it up. This too much longer than 3.5 hours to say the least, hehe. You could purchase all of your gear from players via the Market Boards if you so desire, but I earned those equips. So when I leveled up my Lancer I just tossed in all of the Archer gear I earned from leveling Archer to 1 to 20. I just purchased all of my Lances on the Market Board before I began Fate Burning -- they were dirt cheap on the Market. Level 16+ lances were being sold for like 100 to 1000 gil depending on the seller.

And this is significantly harder to do for caster classes which i think you should add as an addendum due to alot of the times by the time you finish casting a spell mob is dead and dots get like 2 ticks and mob is dead.

Nope. You build yourself for FATE Burning if you're a Caster class. You use a different mindset entirely. Don't go in expecting to kill anything, or else you'll never get exp. You go in armed with two or three things, depending on your class and the FATE itself.

Casters need to use:

  • Instant Cast Spells on Monsters, these are mainly DOTs like Aero and Bio.
  • Heals. Lots and lots of heals. Focus on healing people doing the FATE, that'll net you more exp than killing monsters.
  • AoE. If you're a Black Mage/Thaum just spam Blizzard II and Fire II. The end.

No...not at all. Fates do not compare when you have a good group chaining mobs together. In the time it takes most of the fates to finish(especially the boss mob ones) you would have gotten at least 1.5x the lump sum exp by just ignoring it and continuing to chain mobs.

I'm about to blow your mind Sephiroso.

Who said you had to wait until the FATE is finished?

You know you can particulate a little bit, then leave the FATE and go to another? As long as you remain in the zone you will earn full credit for FATEs you've left. That is along as you've managed to particulate early in the FATE. Arriving late beyond the 75% mark will never merit you a Gold. But if you arrive with 25% Complete and stay just beyond the 50% mark, you can run to a new FATE and get full credit for the old one while on the way to the new one.

If you're staying for the full duration of the FATE, I can see why you think me getting from 1 to 20 in 3.5 hours is bullshit.

Further note: In the 3.5 Hours I was using 1 to 20 gear already in my Armory. I never returned to town. I never turned in another quest. I just literally spammed FATEs for 3.5 hours and did nothing else.

This is just looking at it from a exp/hr basis. Yes, you'll typically want to keep current with your hunting log, and do guildhests every 5 levels just once for the completion bonus but yea, fates are shit exp when you compare it to chaining mobs actually.

I'm going to have to correct you on this one and recommend you reconsider your point of view on this subject. As someone who has high levels currently in the game, several 50s and performed very well in several Beta Testers (got max level in all classes each phase). I can assure you that FATEs are not shit exp. On the contrary, they are in fact the best method of leveling up in the game. You just need a Mount first in order to make use of them. Once you have a mount and you know how to properly juggle them (memorize their pattern) you can level stupid-fast.

Example: On Sunday I leveled my Lancer from 1 to 20 in 3.5 hours on FATES alone.

Oh glorious day! What a question to ask.

Is GRINDING efficient or is QUESTING the best?

Well with Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, the absolute answer is: NEITHER!!!!

Let's review as to why this is the case....

  • Let's start with Questing. Questing, for the Most Part in Final Fantasy XIV can only get you so far. While you will be easily capable of leveling your main class through Story Progression Quests all the way to max level alone -- don't instantly assume this is the best method of leveling. Just because it gets one class to max level doesn't mean you're done.
  • Max Level & Classes: This game has 8 Combat Classes and even more Crafting & Gathering Classes. There are 9 Jobs. Each Job will draw from at least 4 other Classes -- not including the craft classes which you need to expensive gear repair. So you're to have to level up at least 6 Classes for your 1 Job.
  • Quests Run Out: In this game, forget the whole mindset of "Make a new class means making a new character", yeah that's not how Final Fantasy MMOs work. One character is designed to do everything and if you don't follow that outline you're only doing yourself harm. Eventually there will be no more quests to do, but this doesn't mean you'll be doing grinds.
  • Grinding? Traditional Grinding means mindlessly killing trash monsters over and over to gain exp. While you gain exp from monsters, you're not suppose to be leveling off of these alone. There is a new type of grinding, but you'll have a lot of options at your disposal when leveling up.
  • Once you've exhausted Story Lines and Quests, you then do other things like Guildhests, Dungeons, and Hunter's Log.
  • After you're done with those. You do Levequests (once you've saved up 100 allowance points) and burn through those. This includes Grand Company Leves.
  • After you've exhausted that avenue, you focus on FATEs and Primals.
  • After you've exhausted that avenue you should be 50 in every combat class.

1. What's the max level of a class? 50, but you can transform it into a Job as early as 30. Since a Job is an Equipable Item called a "Soul Stone" for your Class, the Job will always be based on your Class Level.

2. Which race would make a great pugilist? Doesn't matter, but if minor stats really worry you -- Human Highlander.

3. How do I get bag space early? Enough to hold you over until level 20 when you unlock Retainers.

Can I craft bags? No, your inventory space is static but always very large. You have a huge inventory for armor and basic items, you'll have a hard time filling it. But when you do, you'll get multiple Retainers to unload items into.

Are there micro transactions for bag/bank space? No. You unlock Retainers via in-game Gil and Story Progression.

4. How involved in crafting should I become early on? Crafting should only be a main focus once you've reached Max level with your favored classes -- in my opinion.

Is it silly to get level 30 crafter if I'm level 15? No, but you'll have a tough time affording materials. Best to do a bulk load gathering them yourself. It is more realistic to have several gathering classes and several crafting classes into to be fully self-sustaining.

Should I skip crafting until I'm done leveling as an adventurer?  I recommend it because crafting can indeed get expensive. And you will need crafting to repair your adventurer's gear.

This is much more of a late game mechanic for certain classes. We're talking level 50s here people, so a lot of you casters are complaining about "Oh I can't cast while moving" blah blah blah... well you can.

Let me give you a bit of prospective from a level 50 Black Mage standpoint. You have some extremely powerful spells in your arsenal at late game. For the most part you will be using Fire 3 and Thunder 3 as your heavy hitting spike damage amidst a complex chain within a spell rotation.
While some may tell you that repeatedly casting Fire 1 late game is silly and shouldn't be done, understand that Fire 1 gets enhanced late game by a passive trait called Fire Stater to be able to trigger and Instant Cast version of Fire 3 for no MP and Blizzard 3 will allow you to nearly instant cast Fire 3 for nearly no MP as well.

The Instant Cast version of Fire 3 will trigger a charge on Fire 3 (illustrated by an orange dotted line around the ability icon). The Charge lasts for quite a few seconds, giving you time to cast other spells.

At the same time you'll have DOT(Damage Over Time) Stacking Thunder spells. Thunder 2 & Thunder 3 are the best to use to keep a more fluid rotation. You'll have another passive trait called Thunder Cloud which has a high chance of triggering free Thunder spells of any level 1-3. The more Thunder Spells ticking away, the higher chances you have of triggering a Double Damage Thunder Spell -- ideally you'll be using Thunder 3 as a high damage nuke when this triggers as it adds the total sum of its DOT Damage + Base Damage when it hits and then it applies another DOT.
*Edit: The dark red coloration is elements that may be no longer true. I was informed Thunder stacking may have been removed, so I omitted those details!
Once you have Fire 3 and Thunder 3 charged on Stand By, you can actually cast these while moving. This is because they've become Instant Cast and do not require a cast time at all, they will just instantly pop off and cost no MP at all. They appear extremely frequent as long as you perform a good spell rotation, enough to the point where you freely avoid enemy attacks.

A late game Black Mage isn't a rooted to one spot as you may think it is.

Armor Management in this game is still a work in progress, keep that in mind.

On top of that fact, you will have to read very carefully when you are going through your armor. You have a mixture of things which are not exactly like other MMOs, mainly because so much armor can be reused by many of your classes without having to repurchase the same gear over and over. One piece of armor can be linked to all of your Gear Sets, yet there is no clear way to easily identify this.

At present you will have to just utilize the space given to you in your Armory as a way to help visual manage your sets. it is best not to stuff your armory full of gear but rather unload periodically into your Retainers; sell the access gear you won't be using on the Market Boards; and focus on having either key sets or one universal theme while you are leveling.

For instance: I'm just going to level Diciples of War, so therefore I only need DoW gear in my armory and all of my Magic gear can be unloaded onto the Retainer for the time being.

Gear becomes easier to maintain the high level you get. Mainly of your gearsets start to become color coded and have very unique looks which late game. This makes them easier to arrange and organize. Early in the game most stuff is bland, brown, and looks the same -- which leads to some confusion!

Stat Comparisons will be better implemented in time says our developers. They originally did not design the game to have side-by-side state comparison for gear, yet the high demand of the Beta Testers have gotten them working on the features as we speak.

Will it be ready by launch? I dunno. We'll see.

Yes and NO. (Please read)

NO: You cannot purchase a full Collector's Edition and attach it to a Standard Account, especially if that Standard Account is pre-existing from Version 1.0.

Yes: You can only upgrade your Standard Edition Account via the Collector's Edition Digital Upgrade, which cannot be purchased until Launch Day. Period. There is no other way.

Most people won't be able to get onto the game. Beta Phase 4 will be officially complete. All they'd have to do is allow the people with Early Access to continue playing the Beta Phase 4 Build as they do the debug. With Launch only around the corner, to me them turning the servers off before Launch would be counter productive.
Makes logical sense to me. But we'll know for certain by the time the Live Letter drops next week.
Am I the only person who believes that Downtime between Beta Phase 4 and the Game's Launch is indeed the Early Access Period?
