No need to look at Wow,look at GW2.

They talk like they know what gamers want, well they are only talking about solo minded players,a single player design ,pretending to be a mmo.

If you design your game to be a solofest,it is begging to remove community from the game.

I am sorry but NO,your once a day or week RAIDING does not a community make. That is called selfishness,i want loot drops therefore i Raid.

I actually had a better community feeling in UT99 back in the day.ONE meeting place, well two,IRC and

Everyone pretty much knew each other,CLANS were formed ,people fought together or agaisnt each other. We logged in everyday to chew the fat,we were not worried about loot drops or our level,it was all about the fun of playing the game for the exact same have some fun.

In RPG's people don't get as loot drop, they feel like the game is a bust. They don't gain a level fast enough the game is a grind. They can't solo the game is a crappy design.NONE of these situations equate to community, this is all selfish stuff..ME ME ME.

There is no ME ME in grouping, because you work together and rely on each other, this creates a bond and a community.

To answer the question, yes community is a dying breed in gaming,it is more about chasing virtual items and level numbers, really sad when you think about it.

Well the one game that did at least improve on all the other games poor design was FFXI.The reason is simple, players strive to move forward, basically speed level. The difference is that in FFXI,you are not one class, you are two at once,it uses the sub class system,or many call it hybrid system. This in the early years at least, has players vets and noobs a like intereacting with each for many years. This is because they have to keep going back to level a new class, but it is ok,becuase nothing is lost ,no need to roll a new tune,ALL class belong to the same player.

Now the problem that is killing ALL these games are the expansions, instead of JUST creating content, they feel they need to make more zones of the exact same type of content. This is a lazy approach imo and what it does,is actually thin out the player base.Even worse is the aceptance byplayers to allow a developer to add instances and cal ltha tan effort worth selling an xpac,it is not and shoudl be free content.

I would rather see something  more along the lines of what Cataclysym tried to do ,change the world a bit,but don't create a ton new zones that leave all the old ones a distant memory.Create some new races, lore, new npc,new mobs, but not the 20 new zones.

I know the reason why games do the cheap out design,it is because they need to sell that xpac, just adding some new contant and items/characters ,is not enough,it would feel more like an update. This is the problem, the devs are greedy, they will  any kind of cheap xpac quantity just to make more money. The devs SHOULD be driven enough to make updates and free changing content, just to keep that 15 bucks a month rolling in.In otherwords respect your player base, quit looking for ways to rape them of their money.

The problem is ALL these games are Winxp 32 bit games and people are buying 64 bit systems. The Cpu's are actually garbage multi core, basically 2-4 crap chips they are selling us old crap and combining the mmake it seem a whoel lot better.Ya on statistical programs that can measure stuff like that, but in reality gaming, these systems usually do not perform well at all.

It will probably be when devs atart making 64 bit ONLY games, that we will start too see huge improvements, code matching the system and multi cores UTILIZED,not just recognized.

What is happening is these cheaply coded 32 bit games are bottlenecked,so the easy way out is tons more Ram,which so happens is a slower part of your system.

Perhaps it will all come together in another 20 years lol.,Maybe there is some samrt people somewhere building a new more efficient Windows system, using better API's.John Carmack made the great Quake series using OpenGl,at the time ,it seemed the way to go,but now a days seems less supported,Microsoft owns us all,and rents us out to Nvidia and ATI.

Proper article.

Square Enix

I know sounds like a conspiracy theory ,but i smell soemthing there with the dates.

Their fiscal year ends MAr31,so happens this is the date they picked for PS3 and probably when the FFXIV goes live ..again.I smell a developer trying to weasel out of bonuses and such by eliminating profits from their fiscal tenre.Tehy have also moved new people into place that won't get their bonuses until next year,so all seems like a tidy house saving operation to me.

Tryying to follow the corrupt game known as the stock market and how books are manipulated is never ending, hard for the federal agents and courts to even prove wrong doings, although Lord British survived his lawsuit.

I have been following Square for many years, and i saw some bad direction come about 4-5 years  ago. They wanted to open up outside the JPN market and into NA,so they started to make some NA games, the problem they don't understand is SE is almsot invisible over here, nobody follows their games.I truly feel Square does NOT understand the NA market at all, they live too much in their shell over their ,always talking to JPN gaming magazines and sites, while over here sites have to translate transcripts from JPN sites.

Not many realize just how big Sqaure Enix is,they all think Blizzard is some giant or SOE,well Sqaure is bigger, they actually have released and are working on tons of games, not including all their mobile and handheld stuff.

I think some people got greedy and wanted to get too big too fast, the gaming industry was booming, but now there is no growth and far too many games.Square Enix shoudl have stayed smaller and stick to 1 maybe 2 big name games ,instead the yhave spent incredibly high amounts ,including foolishly outbidding everyone to get Tomb Raider.I doubt they will ever make much from that initial investment.

Square Enix is known for FF of course, then dragon Quest and Kingdom Hearts, that should have remained their main focus, this way less overhead, more effort towards fewer titles. Those 3 franchises has made them sooooooooooooo much money, they got careless with spending, now all these other losing titles will gouge into their profits.

Bottom line is i do not see Square Enix turning it around for a few more years at least, they have dug themselves a big hole. However, they fell into that hole before and became MUCH bigger than Blizzard,so i would never give up on them.

No PC? Really?

I can only make a guess, but knowing how low budget CCP aims for ,my guess would be a very good one.It is because they probably got a very good deal on an engine.

Games like Gears of War,you do know what engine that uses? Then so you understand that is in the hundreds of millions PLUS royalties to license that engine.I really don't know what Halo uses but it is a lesser budget version of the UT series.

Really try to think of one decent PC engine that is not very expensive to license, and no way CCP is going to develop one.To cahnce developing your own engine ,is a very big gamble, because it sets you back the equivalent of one whole game franchise,so you won't break even for many years to come.

They may have even bought this engine outright, sort of the way that other indie dev bought out that greek mythology game/engine[forget the dev's name] all in one package.

All you need to do is look at the opposite end of the spectrum>>>>Wow+Blizzard. They didn't have a console engine, this is why Wow a game that SHOULD have been on console ,was ONLY on PC,the yrehashed the same Warcraft 3 engine.BTW PC i not the major source of income, because there is very few retailers carrying pc games anymore, that alone says it all, they make more money selling console games.

I am only interested if 5 others want to static.reason mentoring is no good is because once the higher player gets to certain places in the game like gear or 50+ quests, the lower players cannot help, and the purpose i think here is to form a bond of players working together. If everyone forms a Static then they move through the important parts of the game together at the same time.

Also mentoring means you are forver in the same zones, eventually players get bored and will start to ignore their friends and move onto new places and get help from other high end players.I rather a set of people stick together throughout the game.

So do we have 5 others to static ??

It's already been leaked enough about Titan.  It is an MMOFPS (think COD persistent).  It's an MMO, so it will have the predicatble subsciption model any company loves, it will suck in all those COD players ( COD is currently like 4 of the top 10 games on Xfire), and it is vastly different than WOW, so there will be very little inter-company competition.
Really, just go to Xfire and think about what happens to Blizzard's bottom line when even a portion of those COD players start paying $15/month.

Thats my thinking, WoW brought alot of people to MMO's...well mainly just brought them into WoW and chumps have been wanting to steal them ever since with their garbage MMO's. The most logical thinking is Blizzard are going to make an A sci-fi action MMO, attractive to FPS and players who generaly play action games. I think it will still likly have a good story/single player / coop game, Global agenda tried this and failed, it felt much to like Unreal's story mode. an MMOFPS though has not been attempted Planetside, its verymuch an untapped market. With blizzards marketing I think they maybe just able to launch a game that comes close to what WoW has accomplished. Then the influx of terrible MMOFPS's will begin.

Except you forget one thing,a SCi-FI is a massive undertaking, that kind of game would spell a FAIL for Blizzard i am sure of it.There is the fact Blizzard is already spending a ton on a licensed game engine,so they are not about to spend 6-7 years to make a QUALITY sci-fi and that is exactly what it would take.

Sci is not like Fantasy, where your whole game is based onthe ground ,on one planet, you step into the sci-fi genre ,you need to do a heck of a lot better than what CCP did which was make a cheap database game.

Even if Blizzard went the cheap route and made only one planet and jus thad pvp combat in an empty space that is still going to double production time when compared to  a Fantasy game such as Wow.

Blizzard is also not used to spending more time creating hi resolution items like textures, high poly weapons and gear, making tons of shaders ect ect, this all adds developement time to what they are used to.

If any of what i said makes any sense ,you then realize  that Blizzard makes a SCI-fi game it will be cheap 101,it might stil lsell becuase Blizz has tons of blind followers, but no way would be a decent product.IMO a sci-fi is 100% a fail ,they would be utterly dumb if they went that route.

Trust me NPD group is the BIGGEST influence in gaming ,and they would NOT tell Blizzard to make a sci-fi game.

Hre is your answer...

well first this article

This market is so easy to succeed in,this is why SOE went that route a couple years back.Thing about kids games ,is moms wil ldo anything for their kid, they will buy them that game for christmas and buy them a subscription if the game is geared towards kids.So you hook the whole family into a subscription, money is rolling in.

Older gamers can't really influence their friends to join them in a MMO,but kids?Man oh man, they follow each other like wolf packs, kids games are an easy sell.

NPD is the big hype machine most of the big devs use,NPD is the giant that likes to post higher sales numbers to boost hype, and so happens Blizzard is a huge employee of NPD.NPD also gives these devs the inside information into what direction to go fro game development,so I am positive Blizzard is at least making one of their new games a kids game.

What i mean by kids game, because i know these are all kids games,is a game like Wiz 101 or Soe's Free Realms.

I also believe since Blizzard has ties with COD and sees the massive millions it is making, they might also be working on a war shooter type game.

I read the IGN article,no particular reason,it was first :D

I was skeptical expecting a read that sounded fake, kiss ass i guess is a good word, but it was not ,thank god.

The read actually was good,i beleived everything the author was saying, nothing sounds hater or fanbois just the truth again thank god,not often do i get good reads.

Anyhoot what caught my eye was a combat system that sounds almost broken out of the gate.

This is what i saw in the combat system......

That initial ability to stun and build focus is the key here. Now imagine a GROUP all doing this one after another,ok i think you see the point already.WAIT ! gets worse, then the author says you can sit back and deflect shots,so without having to think much here ,you see the combo that breaks the game into super easy mode.

I assume that STUN move has a timer, but with a group all doing it,then sit back and block until it is ready again,it gets ridiculous, then i assume they all probably have enough focus to do their big attack to finish the mob.

I also noticed the author was careful to basically say the game is same old same old,but the voice acting makes it better, well kind of says it all i think. Then he goes on to say there is lots of story in between every battle, sounds more like time/grind because he put the whole story into one phrase [trying to become a Jedi],so do we really need tons of voice acting to tell us one simple phrase?

I hope others read into the little detail ,these previews give us ,instead of just seeing anything then say "this game is the best".These previews as the author stated are of course NOT a game, just a preview of a VERY small piece of the game,YES i do understand that,i am not judging the whole game here.

Good to see some interest...not sure about other 2 posters here, seems the OP is already in a LS so not sure exactly his intentions, sounds to me like he would want a static, need to hear from him and the otehr guy. Those two would give us 5 only needing one more to form a 6 man static.

I hope people interested realize this game is by no means easy mode, the good thing about that is EVERYTHING you accomplish feels satisfying. This is a game you can and WILL die in,not to worry is no big deal a few kills and your back to square one.

BTW you don't need world passes,at least not when i last played, you could pick any server you wanted. Also if anyone has started and wants to get in on forming a static it is not too late to change servers, easy to do,won't take long to get back lost level time spent.Consider your starting adventure as a get the feel for the game thingy lol.

I should mention Square Enix requires a verified Credit card.If no can do ,i think there is another option but would probably require calling them long distance.

@ the op ,you sound like an identical gamer as myself,i care for the whole game and really do not get into that whole end game hype.Problem is i deleted half of my game because i needed the disc space.

This is called forming a STATIC party, definitely the BEST way to play FFXI,you get to know each other and learn to play with each other perfectly.A static needs to stick together in levels, even with the mentoring system,it is the best way to play. Also if serious about this, need 6 players to all start in the same city, reason is the missions can be done once together.

If you are serious about a static for FFXI [greatest game design ever] :D,i would consider being  a 6th member.

BTW i am strict about a Static , which basically means need to be serious about sticking together,i think this is what the OP is asking for anyway no?

We  need to know what you expect out of gaming,do we not ??

What are you looking to get for FUN out of Wow ,and maybe someone wil ltell you if it is worth our time and money.

Even better yet,MOST games have free trials,Eq2/Wow/FFXI/LOTRO ect ect and many F2P games as well such a Runes of Magic that accomplishes exactly what Wow does only for free.

I suggest a trial before forking over any cash, but honestly expect identical gaming thorughout the game>>>questing treadmill.

I can tell you this much,i have done several trials on several servers, and ONLY with the recent update has the noob zones been busy,so if hurry, you will see other players, before the latest updates, the noob zones were completely dead.

I would go on a limb to say FFXIV is using 720p because that was their stumbling block when they did FFXIII and nothing has changed since then.Actual texture size imported into the game is probably only 256x256 maybe even lower, you really can't go very high or the game will lag a ton.

Thing is with FFXIV they have always put more detail into their objects, even in FFXI a low poly game.TERA does look good enough visually, however for me it is all about the combat/class struture and since i am spoiled by FFXI,the best class/combat structure known to gaming,it will be  hard sell to hook me on TERA.

I am a real stickler for graphic detail, example i laugh when i hear people say Wow looks good, just look at a Wow mountain texture or a tree texture, they look like somethign from 1990,because i have a high res texture pack in my UT99 game that looks miles better.I am sure TERA without arguing over who is better FFXIV ,still looks decent enough on it's own.

My peeve for TERA graphically is the hunched over females that run like they have back disease, over sized weapons and herky jerky movement animations. This has been the same problem with Korean gaming for a long time,i am guessign they enjoy that look over there, because i refuse to believe ALL their animators/artists are that inept.

The last guy sounds like he wants VG,ya i loved VG but how did that turn out?

I think SOE needs to get off that questing treadmill design and quit competing head on with WOW,people that play Wow play it because for the most part love Blizzard to death and don't like SOE.SO SOE needs to make a game that is attractive to the others that are not Wow fans, like me.:D

One thing for sure is that SOE over the years, has really not changed their thinking or been creative at all.As much as nostalgic EQ1 players like to think it is so much different ,it is not,EQ2 is basically an identical game with better graphics.People apparently don't want this anymore, and those that do are playing Wow,so make something unique and different for once SOE,i'm talking to you lol.

One thing SOE did right was keep PVP servers and PVE servers separate,it is two totally different game sets, they do not work together at all,i wish people would quit asking devs to make it work,it doesn't.

Unfortunately to have any success now a days the devs NEED to be way over the top.The MMORPG that will be a success, needs to have physics, destructible surfaces, good graphics[scalable of course]and NEEDs to be different.Players CARE about their player, they CARE abotu housing, they CARE about events and combat/class structure.

What i get out of that update is this .....

press release,we are putting mobs and trees in the"oh really?gee thanx",well we are also giving you more lines of text to"WOW! i see the gaming sites and magazines, lining up for the scoop on that detail". release we are giving you some free retainer/ "oh really gee thanx,i didn't knwo this was a cash shop game and we had to pay for space".

Money grind was in mules in FFXI and SE saw the golden opprtunity to grind more money out of people using Retainers,it has nothing to do with listening to anyone ,but their pockets.

Market wards still there..BAH!,i really think SE does not believe their game is that bad,i truly beleive they feel that last announcement of staff changes is good enough to fool people. The like to do the same thign as all other devs do and tell everyone how they are listening, umm ya right quit with the lies,i was in FFXI for 7 years,i know SE listens to only a small core of people, not the fanbase.

The game is finished like all games that fail out of the gate, because of one big reason.....It needs a restart from scratch and NOT the game the way it is now. This is not viable to those who have already spent countless hours,so since there is no real fix to this problem,it will just remain a struggling game.

I don't mind pvp at all,but not in rpg's because it is just done so pathetic.Example 2 warring factiosn,is to me like joining a 2 team hockey or baseball league, not much fun there.

I prefer pvp done on a small scale more the way FFXI did it.there is level restrictions and teams setup times to play. What a game should do to create some excitement is to do the level cap and create a sort of arena/league.Every week or two guilds battle off in a ladder system with the eventual winner gaining some prizes of some sort.Maybe a trophy for their guild hall,a rare item one of each .

To just tell players they can pvp here or there with no real purpose,is like going to a hockey practice and scrimmaging your team into two.Personally i feel it is nearly impossible to create any meaning to pvp outside of a ladder/arena setup, because players cannot game 24/7 to protect a spot or gain control of a spot that may have some importance.Even if yo uhave pvp rifts, you are demanding players to HAVE to show up at those times,if a few stragglers happen to wander into a roup of 50 eager pvpr's it is a lopsided outcome,of which wouldn't excite me at all, since there is no challenge.

The ONLY way to create challenge,is to make sure pvp is done fair, meaning equal teams/groups and equal levels.

I prefer Rift to be a PVE RPG,rather than a PVP fps,i am pretty sure they are naming their game a RPG,so it does not fit the bill of a fps.

To be honest,i used to be one that couldn't care less about housing, but over time it grew on me and i see lots of potential in it.

The thing for me is i want to see a well thought out process for housing, not something thrown in to attract subscriptions, the way pvp is handled in these games.

From all the various games i have played, housing would need to combine ALL those efforts and more to fully satisfy me.Examples....

I liked FFXI's idea of adding furniture to aid in crafting.I like Eq2's idea of adding crafting stations in your home or guild.I like other games i have played for allowing in home learning of skills/crafts ect ect.I thought it was kind of cool like FFXI had the friendly Moogle housekeeper lol,and you add a bed or something or do a quest for him and he gives you a space upgrade.I would like to see housing done on plots with variosu taxes paid to the property owners. This of course would take a lot of planning as to who would own what and not just a simpleton time=reward structure either.

Anotehr thought i had was from a new idea that has crept up in games...gardening.You can have garden plots on your property.Perhaps even create the whole crafting process around resources on your property and yo uhave to pay a tax if harvesting from other players property.

Basically there is a lot one can do with it,it is still an untapped resource for gaming. What we need is a BIGGER push from players, quit accepting such a simpleton questing treadmill game, that imo is NOT gaming at all, that is a waste of time for all of us,instead lets get some more creative ideas in our games and housing would be an appreciated aspect to add.

I was playing a little death spank today if you dont know what that is, its a single player rpg that its riddled with jokes and humor. I was just wondering if anyone else thinks that funny mmorpg could make it.I would personally really like to play a funny game.

Most definitley, there are some famous games out there that could be made into a RPG and i am sure people would play them.

Examples...Duke Nukem?  Serious Sam??

If some serious developer took those two alone and made a good looking MMORPG out of them,i would most definitely play them.

cool and fun classes to play.

Belee dat ,same here.

I also like the combat structure to be intuitive, because that is tied into enjoying your player, not much use for an ability or spell if not fighting anything.

This is not my personal favourite, but i could easily lay claim to FFXI having the best ,most unique healer or ANY class of any game i have ever seen/played.The RDM [redmage class].

This class was able to solo in a game made for grouping, this class at the hands of a skilled player, coudl take down a mob that can kill a group. Many mobs within the game would make players freak out ,if trying to fight them without the aid of a RDM.

Is it possibly overpowered??I say yes,but it still took a ton of knowledge and skill to be a masterful RDM.

When yo uhear players tal;king about class structure and enjoying their player ,how can the RDM not meet EVERYONES standards? It solos, has AOE,healing, buffs, enfeebs, nuking, kiting abilities, can melee or range, wide array of weapon choices INCLUDING the ever favourite dual weild,i mean geesh, could this class offer anymore fun and play style??

This is why class/combat structure matters to me so much, especially if the developer creates a game to enjoy it in.By that i mean it stil lhas to be challenging,it would NOT have the same effect ,giving a plaeyr 50 different great abilities,if it can 1/2 shot a mob and never be threatened.
