@ OP..

Yes "Video Capture" is VERY good,i agree with it bigtime.

Too bad Rifts and Invasions are poorly designed, they need a heck of a lot more than "tweaks" but for video capture, that is a good selling point,at least to me it is.

Very sorry i can't vote because i really don't have a preference,i just like well thought out games that show some depth behind every idea.I guess if i had any preference,i would leave sci fi out,not because i don't like it,i just know how much work and effort it takes to make a good game in the sci fi genre, example i find Eve to be about a 2/10,no where near the effort needed to be a complete game.

If your developing studio thinks it can handle a sci-fi then go for it,all the power to you guys.

Maybe a poll to ask if we like a browser based game or not, because knowing the current trends,i get a sneaky suspicion of browser based here.Or a poll related to the "type" of model you plan on using.

I agree it did receive harsh treatment,it is still a better product than what most are selling us.My problem was more so i am a FFXI vet and i just couldn't accept some of the changes they made in FFXIV.

So for me,i liked the design of FFXI better,so i saw no reason to jump into FFXIV.If there was no FFXI,then probably a decent chance i would be playing FFXIV.

I just can't handle anymore force fed questing games.this is why i preferred FFXI,you do quests whenever you feel like it,you never feel like you have to do them from the first minute you enter the game.BONUS marks for no npc's with quest markers over their head goes a long way with me as well,i hope FFXIV has not stooped that low, there was nothing when i tested the game.

Anyhoot good luck in your game,i am sure being a FF game it will offer tons of enjoyment even if it has some blemishes.

I can only say this....These games are only broken promises or a failure" IF" you expected anymore out of them.

There is a couple on that list, but imo 10/13 i never expected anything from them to be either dissappointed or to label them as broken promises.

So on my list since 2003/4 when i founded FFXI,i have really only been hyped about Vanguard,EQ2,a little bit with TERA and now Archeage. The other games i expected mediocrity and that is what i see,so no broken promises for me.I actually am not expecting TERA to be more than average as well.

Take a look at a few simple tech videos for Archage, tell me this is not far more interesting than what other games are trying to sell story telling or voice overs or more quests.

Now this is something worth hyping,at least imo. This  alone has me more stoked than all the other games pre hype combined.Sure these videos do NOT mean success or even a great game, but we are talking ONLY "HYPE" and as i said, this is the kind of stuff that actually deserves a LOT of hype.Pretty much all the other games are grasping onto one single concept and trying to hype it into god like status,Archeage can post 10 videos all better than anything the other games are hyping.

Rift has done one very important thing which no other game has been able to do yet. It has proven that the people still playing WoW are in fact willing to look for another game to play, and that alone is important in the MMORPG genre. It means that Blizzard no longer has its hold on its entire player base like it did just a year or two ago. And its something I'm sure Blizzard has already noticed and is discussing weekly in thier team meetings trying to find ways to entice thier playerbase back to its 100% loyalty.

Whether or not Rift is the one to steal the players away from WoW or not, everyone is now aware that the players CAN be stolen away given the right circumstances. That alone is all Rift ever had to accomplish to become that dagger mentioned in the quote from the reviewer at MPODG, nothing more. Now, its just a matter of time to watch and see if Blizzard can exert enough pressure on the wound and seal it, or if they can't and it begins to bleed out.

That is a "fair" statement, but there is another way of looking at it.Perhaps after 7 years there is a LOT of Wow players that are just bored and want to play something else. There is also a VEY good fact that many Rift players are maintaining their Wow accounts AND any sign of a mass exodus from Rift, there is a VERY good chance they run back to Wow ...again.

Perhaps there is VERY few leaving Wow,maybe this is just that 1-2 million that have been game hopping.Example tired of Aion or didn't like FFXIV or just people that are carrying an account to another game and wanted some variety.

Only thing i don't like about those two lines,is they are just "WOW BAIT".it is not like those two lines offer any criticism or substance just a statement to bring about Wow hate.Honestly if anyone of us posted a statement like that[even with substance] we are called trolls, but since Trion is paying money to advertise that statement, they are i guess exempt from the rules.[double standards].

First i will say i do agree on their philosophy for doing the quests. These are actually just quests triggering each other. They cal lit a story i call it a questline, really no different, the difference is how they are going to do it.

Instead of specualating, just read what A-Net says they are doing, they are trying to eliminate reading text from a NPC and then doing some killing that lies about the "WHY" you are doing the killing.

A-net is trying to convey a realistic quest system, they are using NPC's to deliver the text/messages,example guards scouts whatever are going to ask for help. They have openly admitted that nobody wants to read text from a NPC with a marker over his head  ...I AGREE.

Problems with this system??Don't even go there trying to say there is no problems, don't need any fanbois telling how everything is perfect..ok got that out of the way.First i am just specualating, becuase that is all anyone can do at this point.

1 What happens for players that are offline and miss out on the events?

2 There can be only so many events coded into the game,so what happens for new players that maybe lag behind the crowd or join the game a couple weeks later?Do they run out?

3 Are they going to have some sort of timer to delay triggering every event in the first two weeks of the game? How long could they delay it,i mean players wait months or does it basically finish up fast ,game over?

I "think" i see what they are trying to do,they are basically delivering a pile of single player games, each one can deliver a different storyline.I am not so sure this is a good system, i am sure the player base will determine that, and of course to each their own, everyone is not the same in their wants, needs from a game.

Also since the OP did say to watch the videos, and i DID do that, open them in full screen, watch the hotbar ...spamming button 111/2/3...1111/2/3.It happens over and over, never changes, doesn't look like very good combat. However to be fair[we want to be fair correct?] it "might" have been a clueless tester that didn't want to venture outside of pressing 3 buttons[everytime].I HOPE combat is better than what those two videos showed for combat.

To be honest you sound like you're trying to find things about the game to complain about (maybe you are?).

and no, I hardly find the cinematics poorly done at all, and I don't have a problem with the toons either. Really, the only thing I would agree on is the green and red highlighting the npc's, but it's not that big of a deal. Not to mention the game isn't even in beta yet, and it's completely possible that's for the demo, or they'll have it so you can adjust it at launch.

You just sound like a troll.... but I'll reserve that judgment for the time being.

Ps: if anyone finds my post somewhat hard to follow, it's because It's late and I feel like crap from being sick.

No dude,i watched the videos, then formed an unbiased opinion.Notice i did say the scenery looked really good,i give credit whre it is do ,i don't just attack a poster because it might be a game i am a fanbois of.

I thought with a lot of people just throwing out anything, some videos that actuall yshow the real GW2 would be better to mull over with opinions.

As i said the cinematics look real bad, even the narrator says they are not great looking and tries to defend his reason why [artistic over photorealistic],so don't jump all over me saying it is not noticeable. You are free to say it looks fine,i just think it looks cheap. If it wasn't obvious the narrator wouldn't have got defensive.

I'm debating whether to pick apart your post or not but while I think on that I have to say that if you don't like the game then don't bash it, just ignore it.

You're just making yourself look like a troll.

It's a discussion feel free to tell me or others if you think it actually looks good ,judging from factual content the narrator is displaying. No need to call people names,if you like the game or not, just comment ,otherwise you are doing as you just said ..."trolling".I guess when you say "pick a part" your post, sounds like you are already getting aggressive, the videos are their feel free to watch then form a unbiased opinion, not one that is just ready to stomp on a poster.

If you don't agree then tell me why, don't just get all huffy,it's just a game ,not life.Bettter yet ,just say what you see in the videos,it's not about "picking a part" someone's post.

Posting FACTUAL videos is MUCH more accurate than people just throwing around opinions.

These videos are here to give people a better understanding of of what GW2 is trying to do,i will give my comments and then you can judge for yourself.

starting character

My personal take is this is nothing new and rather boring, see if you get bored after listening to the guy a bit.Personally i don't like surprises,i think most want to have better control of their player.Notice the cinematics,i think they look very bad, they defend their poor efforts by saying they went for that look because they prefer artistic over photorealistic.Well we have heard that before [Wow]my take is that is not good art ,looks more like 2d paper cutouts, imo looks bad,but judge for yourself.Opening story is rather cheesey as well :/.

Entering game

Ok here he confirms what i already said in last paragraph.Starts by telling you are entering a great piece of artwork...except,then he clicks the npc and you see this awful looking green hue outlining the npc, kinda makes it look fake again and not very eye pleasing.I think the cinematic story telling again looks real cheap and just plain bad or not?

Important points...scenery looks really nice, but characters are VERY low poly.Once again  an ugly red hue around targeted mob.Notice a VERY empty world, too much is pushing to a linear story to follow, doesn't look like you could do anything but follow the linear path.

I am not so sure what they are calling environment interaction is that, looks more like just an emote triggering some mobs to spawn.IDK does it look very well done for the immersion factor?

IMO the narrator is really stretching to make things sound better than they really are.

MOST important part is that their so called DYNAMIC events, are really just npc's waiting to trigger a quest with a green marker over their heads.

hi level thief

Ok here we have thief using guns, notice she doesn't seem to miss at all.So narrator is trying to convey about strategic combat with the dodging, yet the player is never missing a shot, kinda counterproductive if you never miss.I find again the red and yellow hue around targeting really ruins the immersion and looks bad.

IDK,i think after watching the 3 videos that basically take you through the entire scope of the game from creation to entering to high level,i am not sold on the game being as hyped as it is.

Feel free to offer your own comments,if you think the videos do the game justice or you agree with me and that it doesn't really look that good.

Your visa has to be registered, very easy process if using an American Visa,if using one from Canada, might have some problem getting Playonline to ackowledge that is it registered, took me about 10 tries. The site Square uses to check for registered Visa is American.

You can phone them because i am sure you can set something up if you have problems with the registration.

No i am not,i would say i fall more into the stat freak,i care more about factual stuff than just looks that mean nothing, other than your player "might" look cool.

Probably like other real life reporting, they have to disclose a form that lsits the questions they are going to ask,so they never ask  tough questions or they probably will get turned down from an interview. Also MOST of these people work for gaming sites, gaming sites make money predominantly from game advertisers,so again ,do not expect any real deep questionnaires.

So it is up to us the people that actually pay all their bills through the advertising to step up and expose the devs for what they are really trying to accomplish .

For the most part it is simple, they are in it to make money, that is 100% on top of the list, then from there they are either into developing a real complex heart felt game,or just something they can get to market as fast as possible or somethign that meets their investors criteria.

I have yet to see one site or person i believe is 100% unbiased, not that i need their opinions, i can draw my own conclusions with proably a lot more accuracy, since most of these people don't really know what goes into making these games.

Too many possibilities,i would say if it actually does turn on and no smoke or smell of burnt out circuits,it is still working, just not booting up.There could be a simple solution like just a loose wire [ i had that problem several times].It could also be many other things like ram or vid card,or your bios or who knows what your friend was doing when it went out.

Take to a tech guy, good chance it still works.

I guess the worst idea,is the one that still sticks in my head.I forget the game, but the one that tried to reinvent the hotbar, with some rolling 3/4 spot spindle.Almsot makes me want to quit instantly, when i see something that dumb.

They tried to make it sound like it was more, there are plenty of ways to create strategy without turning a hotbar into a rolling wheel of russian roulette.

It is a rights offering.

Basically, if you own shares you receive a certain amount of "rights' that allows you to purcahse more shares from the company at a discount.  If you don't want the shares, you can sell the rights on the exahnge to someone who then can purcahse the shares.

Thanx for that small link, but i am still up in the air a bit.I understand they are adding additional stock, but as i remember form previous reading, they also have various levels or types of stock.Maybe someone can further explain it.

I don't see how they can simply add more stock and dilute the value of present owners stocks,it almost sounds illegal, but of course i don't fully understand this move or stocks.Explain please??I guess the value can actually go up with new investment, but my math tells me more stocks means less value does it not?

Well mr.Maji everything you ask for is quite doable, however i doubt any developer will be willing to put out that kind of effort and cost.Developers are in it for the money, don't ever let them fool you.

The ONLY reason anyone like EA/Bioware is willing to take a chance on a huge budget with SWTOR is because it is a PROVEN money making IP and no other reason. If they were developing a totally brand new MMO without a proven brand name, they probably would have gone for a 10-20 mil budget tops.

There is good reason everyone is talking "clones" it is because of the cost/profit ratio developers are just going to give us the basics>>>>>quests/gear/levels/mobs and maybe some cheap form of pvp. What it will take to make developers step it up a notch is if a game that DOES put in the effort is able to draw big numbers. As long as the same formula keeps working, nobody is going to risk a huge investment to make a great game.

I also hear that developers are VERY disgruntled over the limitations of the DX api's ,so do not expect anything great to hit the horizon for several years. We pretty much are going to have to wait until the NEXT Microsoft type of developer comes along, some new technology and new api's to make games run smoother/faster.

Not at all because the community i hang out with in real life is basically sports minded,we never talk video games. Gaming outside of being a small pastime to relax, has no bearing what so ever in my real life.

One word RED MAGE [FFXI]

Anyone that has played it beyond level 48 understands how busy that class can be.The rdm can basically do anything the game allows,buff/debuff/sleep/haste/ magic burst join in Renkai if needed, then depending on it's sub class can carry out various other roles.

Obviously to carry out a support role, combat needs to be slower and more thinking.IMO Raids are not the best place to carry out support, because Raids are usually about each player having 1 or 2 roles, like Cures or Stun or just doing as much DD as it possibly can.

Depending on how limited the term "support" is,FFXI offers many support roles from several classes.

If you look too deep into rpg gaming, then it can all look bad,i mean we are talking artificial AI here, mobs are not actually thinking, everything is scripted sequences.

I happen to enjoy the holy trinity,it is more controlled,i prefer that over chaotic uncontrolled fighting. It is far from broken ,we just need more creative developers or at least ones that are willing to put out the effort to make some intuitive combat.

The questions needs a subjective answer.

I would love to see a UT99 type combat IF it were all about pvp,but imo pvp should take a back seat in rpg's.I don't beleive just becaue you can move or have to aim makes combat any better in a rpg, unlike a fps type combat there is way too many skills to manage.

For example if i was playing pvp in ffxi,i would have to have fast access to 20-30 skills/spells/abilites/buffs/debuffs it is just ridiculous to think i could have that many fast access hotkeys ready.Games like rpg's are better suited with lots of thinking strategies and using macros. You can't operate properly in a rpg combat if you have to maintain 20 or so commands plus move around,it really loses the skill factor like that.

When i play for example ut99,i don't look at my key selection ,i just hit my hotkeys, but when i play ffxi,i have to actually look at which macro i am hitting, that is not feasable in pvp.

The best combat system for rpg's is derived from a game having a huge array of "usefull" spells/abilites/buffs/debuffs.This is strictly speaking from a RPG perspective, fps's are more about map movement and using your surroundings.Rpg's have horrible map design or i should say NO map design for strategic pvp combat. So since the maps are not designed worth a crap,it relegates rpg's to PVE combat,to which you are fighting npc's AI,so really does it matter if you have to move or not,i don't think so.

On a sidenote,i did play a bit of DF and although i thought it was a nice change to have to AIM at my targets,i did see a lot of room for exploits, most people know of the many exploits in fps's.IMO a game that forces aim is 100% guaranteed to have aim hacks and exploits,so no i don't want that in my rpg's.It is hard enough to determine cheats in fps's but at least we can just quit and move to another server, you can't do that in MMORPG's.I actually quit COD altogether because cheating was at ridiculously high levels.

Now that Pax East has come and gone, we're starting to get a better feel for what GW2 is going to be like. Combat, PvP, dynamic events, cratftng are all out there but, what little thing (ex: pets, mounts) would you like to see in game?

I like the the skins/dyes from the original GWs, anything else?

What makes gaming fun for me is i like to see the developers ideas for themselves, not what i want.If it was always what i want, then there would be no change from game to game.

What i do want from developers is to see that they take every idea and put a lot of depth and thought into it.So i just want to see what GW2 has to offer, then i'll decide if they made something intuitive or just cheap design to make a quick sale.I want to see a design aspect of the game that tells me ,it was a design the author truly is pleased of and not something that cuts corners to save production costs.

Yes i can spot cheap from effort a mile away,i have seen thousands of design ideas from thousands of games and for the most part,i know how they do it.All i want is EFFORT !.
