I'm not sure what you define as short term. One year? So far it has been doing OK. Both GW and PS2 won't be ssub based so it is possible to own and play both. I myself will probably play PS2 and ToR (on and off).

Yeah they did play it safe and I do fear they will hold too tight to that mentality or be force to by EA. But I have a feeling it will really take off again once they start putting in the content that they had to cut so they could get it released. There is a lot more they can do and add. Still waiting for pazaak...

I think what is worse about hype is that it puts pressure on a whole group of gamers so they end up getting it just to stick together.

Hype hasn't worked on me to get an MMO to play alone but having friends/family that wants to play I feel more inclined to.

Well for me, TOR is the end of the WoW type. Because I won't play another one. I'll play ToR and that's it. If there is little change I'm not buying it.

I think the CPU is an AMD Athlon X2 2.8 GHz and an EVGA 260 GTX video card.

The system isn't too old. About 5 years but with upgrades. I'm fairly certain this is the power supply it has. Getting this running again isn't urgent so I'm inclined to wait on a good deal for a replacement thats not much more than $50.

If a PSU goes zap and POP, trips the power in the room, and has a strong electrical burn smell... what are the chances of the whole PC being dead too? I've never had a PSU have an exploding death so I'm not sure what to expect. I guess replacing it is the only way to know for sure.

Would anyone recommend testing the recently bought PSU before wiring it all up?

Yeah, endgame gear is pretty darn rediculous. I never asked for the over the top armor that doesn't even look like it belongs in the game. Couldn't they have shown off the art concepts and let us vote on the best one? Thank goodness some games have an appearance option.

Bad graphics that would show their age in no time

Very little background story

Some were unintuitive with controls or mechanics and lacked good tutorials

Really boring quests with the most uninteresting story if they even had one. Almost every single quest was a kill quest.

I just think there'd be a ton of players interested in taking EVE's combat system and making a solid PVP game out of it.  Instead of making the majority of actual EVE gameplay as devoid of excitement as possible which is the main reason the game deflects so many players.

I know I would try that. Again, leaving Eve the way it is but having a separate PvP training game.

This website is about discussing MMOs, worts and all.  We don't come here to blow sunshine up the developer's arses when it is underserved.  If you don't want to read people's negative opinions, and you believe everyone is on some sort of vendetta, then perhaps MMO forums are not the right place for you to spend time.

It isnt "discussion"....it is the same shit different day from a number of the same posters. It actually is against the TOS of site, but for some reason it isnt enforced. Do gameplay discussions happen? Nope not really....they get bumped to the bottom of the page every time for the latest "Derrr we wanted the PRECIoUs" thread, or some flavor to that effect. Threads always turn into bitch session, and you can typically count on the same folks to chime in.

 

We get it....some of you dont like the game. Move the fuck on.

 

Instead the fans of TOR are forced to deal with you folks, and it is BS quite frankly. The fact you would even attempt to sugar coat what actually transpires doesnt surprise me, as being a "practicing SWG "vet" you are the epitome of what is annoying about dealing with the TOR forums. It was uncalled for when this same shit happened for EQ yrs ago, and it is now for TOR.

 

Like I said though, if this shit was happening in either the EVE or AA forums, the same folks here slinging shit would be going ape shit crazy.  It is hard enough for MMOs without someone trying to drive away potential business.

 

So now Cres has come out and listed why he doesnt like TOR. I would expect a person to either walk away, or simply not make a daily habit of chiming in to flame the game. Like he stated though, he wants the game to do badly, so I guess he is going to continue flaming in the hopes it helps to make it a reality.

I don't think the OP or anyone else on the anti-tor parade have to worry about it becoming an overwhelming success. It is fairly obvious that it wouldn't be, it isn't now, and the design and audience they chose isn't going to help them much in the future.

I'm still playing TOR occasionally and do enjoy it at times. Though, it is hard to replay the same game repeatly just like it is for a linear SP game.

Ah the negativity... where do you start? There is just too much to talk about with MMOs that it just never ends.

The more you can loose (death penalty) doesn't make PvP more meaningful. If thats all these is to meaningful MMORPG PvP then I don't see any reason to participate in it.

There are already mods in the works for Skyrim Online. 

 

If a MMO adopted the same systems as they are in Skyrim, it would be a largely broken multiplayer game.

I recall Oblivion multiplayer mods in the works too but we know how that didn't turn out.

Your acronym use has me confused because FTP means file transfer protocol. Refering to free to play is F2P and often coined P2W (pay to win).

I find that F2P MMOs are often not much more than a open trial where you can insert money if you want to actually excell in the game. Games that go F2P also give gamers a change to play it when they normally wouldn't have with a sub. Unfortunately some don't even survive long enough to make that transition (Earthrise).

As far as I'm concerned we don't need a big budget.. ANYTHING MMO. Definately not a big budget PvP MMORPG because well the PvP in RPGs is quite awful. To much money is being thrown into games with the expectation of it being better. It seems to make it worse.

Tribes Acend and PS2 will be THE PvP games, not really massive but good enough.
