Are CE MMOs really worth collecting?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 4/10/12 9:11:14 PM
I really don't think they are. Right away you are taking an unpredictable gamble on it's success. Then you have the fact that MMOs, while persistant and having potential longevity, due to many reasons (design, bad timing, not fulfilling popular interest, continuous pop drop, etc) simply can't hold a lot of value many years down the road. I'm thinking that only singleplayer games(that don't require internet access) are worth investing as a collector item from a purely value after time standpoint. Multiplayer games would be the worst because the reliance of servers and eventually no servers will exist. Or am I completely wrong? Does CE game even need to be playable 10,20 years later to hold value? |

Who actually bought the Collectors Edition today

Did not buy CE. Nor the game in any form. The future is too clouded. And so I wait. ...Then maybe will get the standard. |

It is sad that themepark linear zone to zone content is fairly wasteful even after they try to use every meter of land as a means for questing. Once all the quests are complete then there is no reason to return. Yeah slower leveling would help keep the content from being devoured so fast but it doesn't do anything to bring other level ranges back there. One of those small unique things I noticed playing TOR was when doing a solo mission for this guy. It took us in an instance but instead of scaling everything up, when initiating combat with each encounter it would cause an elite to appear. I think that worked even better than scaling it up. Ofcourse that was in an instance and not an open world. In an open world spawning a lot of additional mobs would favor the use of AoEs in every situation. Maybe it could work with some spawning/scaling variety and mobs having a lot of AE, stuns/ interupts, and knockbacks.
I miss live events that would bring anyone of any level to various places in the world... |

What the next mmorpg should look like? (Poll)

[Poll] How many themepark games did you buy?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 4/05/12 9:55:24 PM
Need more MMOs in the list and also need another poll : Of the ones you did buy how many did you subscribe after the free month?
Bought 3 of those and add EQ2, Vanguard, and Aion to that. Of all of them, only EQ2 and Vanguard did sub for over 6months. |

What the next mmorpg should look like? (Poll)
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 4/05/12 9:45:52 PM
It is as though I chose correctly with the one that got the most votes. Strange mash up of MMO combinations but I went with "Sandbox with real Role Playing world+manual combat". I want skill leveling progression in a VOWRPG(virtual world) with aiming instead of tab targeting. |

Virtual World Role Playing Games(VWRPGs)
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 4/04/12 11:06:12 PM
I've probably used a similar term but not consistantly. With it, I try to emphasize the need for player interaction. Not complete dependancy, but partial, just enough that players do not play entirely solo. That may not fit for a broad definition, though. I wonder what games the OP has in mind that could recieve the VWRPG label. Mount&Blade? Skyrim? SWG? Vanguard? |

More adventuring for a quest. Less questing for an adventure. Ok so they are kind of synomyms but you get what I mean. |

Which games do you believe have the best music?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 4/03/12 12:25:56 AM
Most memorable music to me.. Planetside Neocron -gives the perfect amospheric feeling of the mutant wastelands Vanguard -some areas like Leth Nurae Aion -a few really great songs like the Ellyos starter zone
I listend to AoC again music again. It is better than I remembered. Probably the music that sticks with me the most are from games I really like and play for a long time. In general combat music isn't something that I enjoy much but music that adds to the feel of the game world as I travel and explore makes it more appealing, thus more memorable. |

Better Balance? More Power = More Survivability != More Damage
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 4/02/12 2:32:21 PM
Noobies don't need and shouldn't have an advantage over a vet. They only need a chance to learn how to play better. Ideally, a capped player shouldn't be more than 3x more powerful than 1 day old player (sort of like EvE). As for being outnumbered, how about instead a One vs Many ability. Activating it will bolster all of your stats(or just defensive ones) for each enemy within a 50m radius and compensates for level. Any ally in the vicinity prevents the ability from activating or negates the effect. The bolster buff will only last for about 30 seconds so if you can't fend them off in that time you will be force to run or die. |

What kind of pop do you think Vanguard will get from F2P?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 4/01/12 4:41:29 PM
Probably right... The F2P move is just to make more money before they inevitably pull the plug. They certainly aren't looking for loyal fans anymore. |

If they don't have a big update with the switch they need ATLEAST SOMETHING in the next 1-3 months after. I would guess 5k population but I'm really just making up numbers here. |

What MMO was the biggest disappointment for you?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 3/31/12 12:55:07 PM
STO and Earthrise Oh.. wait. Didn't buy those. But all others that I did purchase I don't have regrets. Certainly not with SWTOR, Aion,Eve, WAR, AoC, etc... |

[poll] Rate this backstory/concept for an MMORPG
MMORPG Game Concepts « Developers Corner 3/30/12 2:19:44 PM
Honestly it is a lot like an old 80s sci fi film and I don't mean that in a good way. Almost any Star Trek episode would have a better story. WW3 is a terribly overused setting and as others said the moon is going to be either very dull place or just won't realisticly work. You might as well create a new realm. A different Earth-like planet with humanoids inhabiting it and other habitable planets to better fit the setting. Settings that would be much more interesting -Surviving on a post natural catastrophe/nuclear winter Earth. -Alien planet collides with the moon and many aliens survive and fight for their new home.

Firefly Universe Online: Announcing a Launch Date and ...
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 3/26/12 8:36:39 PM
Pull this from the FAQ What will questing be like in Firefly Universe Online? Will it be similar to World of Warcraft? No, the failure of most MMORPGs are that they are simply cookie-cutter gameplay mechanics. For the Firefly Universe, one that relys on tactics over grinding, intellect over gunplay, that would not be fitting with the atmosphere depicted in the Firefly series. Although we are still some time away from implementing questing mechanics, we can tell you that it will be exactly like the TV series in that no job goes smoothly. How a player can anticipate and adapt to any given situation will determine their success or failure of a quest.
I dunno, It sounds like and neat little fan project and no where near a AAA MMO. I suspect most of the devs aren't very experianced but they do sound like passionate gamers. Will have to wait and see... |

I wish users age was systematically shown ...
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 3/26/12 4:52:07 PM
Imho there is too much lost in the bits of lines of text. If everyone communicated on voice chat it would probably be more civil, people would show more respect towards each other, and be more understanding of someone else's opinion.
OP's suggestion is kind of silly. Especially for a 33 year old. :p |
