[Editorial] General: How Free-to-Play is Killing Gaming – Part One
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 10/06/12 3:49:56 AM
I disagree with this article. It is not Free to Play, which is killing anything, the dev teams themselves kill if any. Nearly all of the titles of the genre provided terrible service. Most players I know (substract some kids from this) are more than willing to pay a subscription fee for a good game with reasonable service and continued development. The software game industry is the most customer ignoring industry in the world since some time in the 80s. The bigger the company the user unfriendly are service and product. Look at EA currently. They try to make profits on the back of us customers instead of looking us in the face. Most developers do is nothing more then copy/paste succussful game ideas and ignoring service issues. Some hotlines with ignorant underpaid folks is what they call service. The free-to-play-model of online gaming is just a feature, not a problem at all. The developers themselves, the companies creating games are the one that decide to make it good or bad. Today, tomorrow and the day after. Perhaps ArenaNet can show how to do it right. They proclaim it at every corner, but I doubt they will be different. Surprise me ArenaNet ;) |

[Review] Guild Wars 2: Raising the Bar
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 10/04/12 11:56:32 PM
Good review. Has been fun to read. GW2 is the best MMO at time of release I ever played. (played all the big one since '99) Now they can show us over the next years, if they can keep up this title. Best development so far had EQ2 - for the first years. I really hope ArenaNet can stand up to it. :)

[Column] General: On MMOs Going Solo
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 9/27/12 2:35:02 AM
Why I started to play MMOs (back in 99') does not matter, because the market has changed, general pc games have changed and the people as well. For me it has been something new and I went to try it out. Today I only play MMOs, nothing else. So when I want to play solo with some chitchat in the background I do so, be it via chat or voicechat. When I want to get some group experience, I can get that as well from my MMO of choice. I believe MMOs are just the beginning, in the long term every single game out there will be "MMO" to some degree and you will be back to games offering more this or that like some 12 years ago. |

[Column] General: Quest Hubs Are Dead, Finally!
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 9/11/12 4:17:40 PM
Silly article. Wow did nothing, some other game had not done before by WoWs release. They copied everything here and there and there. Blizzard had the greatest name of that time and did the most advertising of games ever with WoW. Nothing more. I am so tired of this endles and most times wrong WoW talk *sigh*

[Preview] Neverwinter: PAX 2012 Best in Show - Here's Why
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 9/03/12 11:45:25 PM
And does all this foundry stuff helps, when all those level hungry players reach endlevel? It is just letting the community make the content for what they even have to pay. It's not innovative, it's greedy and totally uninspired. And it is soo Cryptic too

[Column] Guild Wars 2: Garrett's First Impressions
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 8/29/12 5:50:46 AM
The launch is/was better than most and the game feels better than every game I played yet (in 12+ years online) - so far. But I am pretty confident this won't change.

Looks not that impressive to me. Just another somewhat dated looking D&D. Give us something to AWE, or we keep playing our games.

So that was all? If you compare these two games there is much more to it. This article looks like some notes for an arcticle but nothing more.

All MMOs I've played felt easier than GW 2. Standing rooted clicking three or four buttons is always easier than having to circle and dodge a mob. *yawn* |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: SWTOR - The 'Singleplayer RPG'
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 7/26/12 6:49:40 AM
No matter what you say, MikeB. This game felt to my like any singleplayer RPG and not even the best of it. After my mains story was over I even had to force me leveling the rest up to 50. But it felt useless. Due to the massive focus on the story and the voiced movies the common MMO gaming felt wrong to me. After that everything in the game felt like a copy of something I had done or seen before. And in fact massive parts ingame are pure copies of other parts in the game as well. The MMO feeling never got me in this game. (if there is any) I quit the sub after 5 month, because I felt the game was over. As in the average single player RPG. I won't even buy further Addons, SWTOR did never get my (as I had hoped for a long time)

Looks all very static to me. Wait and see... |

Guild Wars 2 is not just the next MMO, like so many before, it is B2P. Loads of people will buy it, many already did. They will start to play and currently I doubt many things will go worng. But even it if is the case. The money has been earned by ArenaNet and they will continue to fix it, to create more stuff for the game and everyone who bought the game can reenter, whenever they want to. There is no more payment in any form as it is with all the other major titles. If SWTOR would be B2P, perhaps I would play it again next year or so, but I won't resub it. But I have faith ;) I think GW 2 will have much more content, much more hooks for me and others to play on after the first toon hits 80. The release is 2 months away, they will have time to fix this and that even before the release hits the shelves... |

Five Reasons to Keep PlayingNot really. Perhaps, if they continue to flesh it out for some years. Currently it is a good single player game, going online. I'm through, nothing to add. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: The Best of SWTOR Update 1.2
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 4/23/12 11:38:29 PM
An article to hype a overhyped patch with meh addittions. Sprint, oh really, what a great feature. The first levels rush by easily so no great help anyway. The legacy is one great moneysink, nothing more. The crewskill system (please don't call it crafting) is a pity for all, who really like crafting. I yet have to see the improvements they talked about in the level below 50... The flashpoint, operation an new dailys are good for those people who like endgame grinding, no doubt, but I still don't see a reason to hype this patch. We are 5 months into the game, such a patch is pretty common for MMOs. |
