All it says is: the development costs equal some 20 or 25 mio dollars, depending on the box sale value of 40 or 50 $ each. 20-30 mio $ is a good value for a MMO, so this might very well be true. It is also the amount of money many other dev teams had to work with. Many of which failed to use it to some success (Vanguard had 30 etc.)

So we have to expect nothing special from this one and if beta rumors about a pimped up single player game are correct, the need this early revenue, because they won't get much from subscritpions in the long run ;)

This has been one opinion of one guy, who not even played many of those games, otherwise his ratings would have been much different. Just some bs talk, to ignite some forumposts. It worked for me, but this topic could have been done much better. A pity.

It is not size, that matters, it's all about skill ;)

Scaling instances is heavy anti-RPG feature. It's an artificial prolongation of the same content. If you think, level-scaled instances and quest tracker are good features for mmoRPG, then I congratule you for your opinion and recommened you another great "RPG" titles such as Half Life or Far Cry.

Oblivion, you know that RPG game that pretty much scales everything to you, says hi2u. It also says Halo is -----> that way.

Woah, I would never expect anyone to actually bring Oblivion on a table as a proof that RPG use level scale, as I don't think of Oblivion as an RPG. Oblivion has FPS controls, FPS combat, FPS aim, everything scales up to you, instant travel, quest trackers. That's no RPG, that's FPS. And if you still believe it's RPG, then I congratule you again for your genre choice, and recommened you Half Life and Far Cry to further enhance your "RPG" experience.

Well that makes sense. If, evidently, all you've ever played are Far Cry and Half Life (you seem fixated on these 2 titles for a reason I gather), then it stands to reason you'd really have no idea what an RPG is.

Oblivion/Morrowind are RPGs. Are they RPGs that I like. No. I prefer the Bioware model. But they are still RPGs.

I believe we can henceforth safely discount anything you have to say on the subject. Good day.

Correct.

...Someone had left out the module. There was no story, there was no point. You just kind of wandered around. And that hasn't really changed all that much over the years.

Nonsense! If this is really what he thinks, he is either unable to comprehend MMOs, or has played far too few MMOs or has played only asian MMOs or his vision of games is that weird, that we really have to fear for the wellbeing of SWTOR. Hopefully it is just him and not the game.

Please Daniel Erickson, do no further interview about any MMO ever!

You know I sometimes question the sanity of game devlopers.

Our game is plauged with Bots  and Gold sellers, and has the single worst community of any other MMo (Think Xbox live meets south park ) and is bleeding subscribers at an unprecidented rate.

I know lets put out a magazine and charge for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

Again, someone who have no idea about the game, yet .. he makes false accusation.

I can't remember when I saw the last gold seller, but I can remember when I saw a bot. I think was around 1 week ago and yes, I did report him.

So stop trying, making Aion look bad. If you have something against the magazine, then go ahead and rage about the MAGAZINE and not say some false infos about the game

Ever use the item broker? All those people selling thousands of materials are bots, buddy. Botters are still around in force, as are their gold selling counter parts. They have just stopped wasting their time making accounts to spam 24/7.

Absolutly correct. They gather the hell out of themselves, because of really bad game design (i.e. using LOADS of resources for high level crafting) they can sell ores and woods and aethers for more kinah, than mob grinding with surprisingly bad drop rates would ever generate. You don't believe it? Just look at the names of the gatherers or those who sell hundreds of stuff in the auction houses...

Oh btw, all those hacked accounts are because of RMT guys as well. Don't believe a second they are gone...

The magazine is nothing but an item shop disguised as news. Fact is: we are longing for news for months now, and when the devs, CMs announce something to be told to us, the magazine appears. So we are to pay for news now. Great stuff. I am pretty sure those dyes and stuff will reappear with each issue, because they want to sell consumables (dyes, food) for real cash like the valantine packs. It is a plain dumb method to earn even more money, but since enough people are willing to pay, so they will go on and on and...

3 years ago when I left EQ2 I predicted the WoWification of EQ2.
Now SoE has finally brought the project to the desired conclusion.
Gratz on ruining a decent game...............

I know exactly what you feel....

Compared to Bioware games, TES has less guided Storylines.
In fact usually any game of the TES series has only 1 big storyline but hundreds of smaller quests.
Generally in TES, I wait until I explored all the map and finish every little quest before finishing the main storyline.

In bioware games though it is the opposite, I grind on the main storyline and tend to skip the smaller quests.

That's why I say that Bethesda style is more suited to MMORPGs than Bioware.
Because with Bethesda you fall in love for the world and everything that happens in it, while in Bioware games you just care for the storyline

This will be my next MMO, I ve been waiting 10 years for this game.

Well said, nothing to add.

The 'here' link generates a redirection error...

To make this work, SOE would have to do some advertising, which they don't even do for their EQ Titles as it should have been. Vanguard will simply be forgotten some day which is a shame.

The only people to blame are those who actually use the goldspammers. I wonder why the gamecompanies have no brains after all those years to get some. Look at CCP. There people who want to buy ingame money do so legally trading with those player who sell their ingame money for addittional gaming time. It is win win situation. You keep players and support those lazy guys, who think money can buy them fun. Its neither new nor difficult to implement, but as I said, gamecompanies copy, steal everything, but not those easy to use stuff to make everyone happy. A real nobrainer...

As for the question in here, does not change anything. Set it to level 20, really. If new players stop to join the game, at least the old ones have some peace and perhaps even the gamecompany hires someone to think now and then.

I just was about to to sign up for beta. This made me quit. No microtransactions for me, no matter what game. Sorry, I was looking forward for swtor :(

Private shops are a pain for the eyes whereever they pop up. You can block goldsellers whispering you to death, why can't you set up /don't show shops as well? Those gold sellers ping you once and are gone, but those pesty shops hinder your normal view everywhere. Brokers are more than enough. Kick them completely or at least let us /ignore them like gold sellers and spammers. For me, it is just the same stuff.

Darkfall was a soap opera of epic failure that finally reached a pinacle...big deal. It got talked about a lot, but I don't see that it revealed any great new trend in the industry or "showed" anyone anything.

To file Darkfall as #1 shows clearly, why I shouldn't read the articles here any longer. Once upon a time, they have been good...

This article is nothing but advertising for Aion. I hope the author has been paid well. You need every single quest to not grind your way up. When doing every single quest and repeat 1005 with every single alt, this is as far away from a sandbox as you can be.

A sandbox would be a bunch of choices, which you simply don't have in Aion so far. You can choose to do all the quest or to grind grind grind. You don't have the choice to level here or there, doing this with you sorceror and come back later to do something else with you gladiator. You will do exactly the very same thing with you second, your third, your fourth and you fifth charakter.

There is no such thing as a sandbox in Aion. It might be somewhere in the future though. We will see. Why I talk about a fifth char? Because there is a hidden quest, you can only do, when you level five different chars up to lvl 30. When you have done that, come back and tell us about the sandbox.

Aion is a nice game though, much better than the article we discuss here.

It's an average game with good enough grafics and the worst combat system ever. Not worth any money...

You meant there actually are solo players in EQ2? They usually quits very fast, the game is very grooup oriented.

My theory is: Smedley sat brooding in his lair, he thought to himself "-I need bigger bonus, we must make more money.- We could off course make the games better so more starts to play them but that takes time and money. -I need money now". And then he got the brilliant idea to sell stuff to the already paying customers. My theory about Legends of Norrath is kinda the same.

SOE was hoping that few or no players would quit and therefore they make a lot of extra cash with minimum of work. But I am a cynic so I might be wrong.

The game has more solo players than you would believe. Many of them are quitting now, because TSO offers not enough to get them happy. With station cash another wave of players are quitting and it might be accounted the one reason for the other. I did cansel my account because of the station cash (I hate RMT but I did it, because SOE lied again to us), many of the other players I know of quitting, do this because of the lack of solo content. In any case, TSO and station cash will earn them less money overall, but it will take them a year to regcognize, as always.

The combat system is the worst I have ever tried. For many quests I had to run around more than for an old school adventure. The skill wheel is a serious limitiation, not a great addition. The grafics have been nice, the story too, but everything else is a no-go. The is really nothing to hook you in this game.

Hopefully, it will be their first MMO with some quality
