Not at all. The 2 new classes are, for all intents and purposes, utterly insignificant.
K/P is still the best tank in game P/K is still the best healer in game M/P is still the most utilitarian in game M, R, S are still the best DPS is game
I guess you could argue that wardens are great at CC. However, even the beefy pet dies quickly. Also, without the possibility of knight secondary, off-tanking isn't recommended. So, you are down to skills with short durations, which can be very effective if used at the proper time. The sad part is, you get nearly as good a CC repertoire from a Mage and a much, MUCH, greater destructive capacity. |

It's not a scam because it results in less sales. However, it is another needless change for the worse. More than likely an unintended side-effect from inept code tinkerers, just as we've seen time and again. |

I stopped playing my Knight when ALL other classes started rolling "need" on stamina mods. Granted, it was poor design that dictated ALL classes need stamina mods as either their primary or secondary stat. Unfortunately, that's all I wanted as an agro-magnet.
Mages fight Priests over Int mods. Priests fight Mages over Wis mods. Warriors fight Rogues over Str mods. Rogues fight Scouts over Dex mods. Knights, Mages, Priests, Warriors, Rogues, and Scouts ALL fight over Sta mods.
Instead of getting half the role dependent mods that drop, Knights get 1/6th of their needed mods. I got sick of watching it happen, so I rolled another class, then I watched as other Knights did the same thing. |

As always, some people will not be satisfied with micro transactions. F2P works well for some and not so well for others. RoM was the first F2P game I ever gave an honest effort, and I found that this system isn't for me. For anyone who wants to casually play a fantasy MMO, a few hours a week, and not take it very seriously, this is a fine system. For anyone who wants to buy their way into the upper ranks, this is also a good system. For anyone who wants the freedom to experience everything a game has to offer, on a $15 per month budget, this is not a very good system.
RoM serves a purpose. It's a well refined game, with some depth, for casual gamers who like to play but don't feel any game is worth paying for. It's also a system for gamers who want no limit on the amount of money they spend on gaming and for the money spent to be directly reflected in their gaming experience. For anyone in-between, it'll be a mixed bag. Face it, the more you spend in RoM, the more you get. Accept that or don't bother down-loading it. You may want to take advantage of that sytem or it may prove limiting if you budget your gaming expenses..
Most casual gamers (hobbyists that will spend $15/month) would probably find a better experience elsewehere. That's my personal opinion and is by no means a reason not to try RoM for yourself. If you want more, faster than most sub based games offer, RoM might be for you. To me, RoM gaming proved to be of lesser value than it's competitors -- monthly subs. I find the freedom of monthly subs (with unfettered access) fits me better than micro-transactions. |

Looks like more of the same from Runewaker. Apparently they've decided to 'fix' a 'bug' that has been present since CB (about a year ago). forum.us.runesofmagic.com/showthread.php To anyone who isn't aware of what this change could mean, it could be a 15-20% loss of efectiveness to the upper echelon players gear. Many players have farmed high durability gear to gain these bonuses. They have invested countless hours, gold, and, in some cases, diamonds to build the perfect gear set. Veterans have posted in help topics advising new players to focus on higher durability items, with no comment from the dev team. Crafters have openly discussed the high durability items as being the only productions of any worth, again, no comment from the dev team. The RoM official forums have literally been peppered with comments and entire threads devoted to this game mechanic, with no comment from the dev team. Now, nearly a year later, the dev team wants to weigh in that this is actually a bug (not an intended game mechanic) and they intend to fix it. Blatant omission does not excuse such action. Inconsistency is the only thing consistent from Runewaker. I've said it before and I'll say it again, RoM is a decnt F2P MMO, but I wouldn't give them a nickel until these types of changes are non-existent.
*edit* Looks like the responses from the community encouraged Runewaker to reconsider this 'fix'. Recent comments from the dev team give the impression that this game mechanic will not be changed after all. Good decision Runewaker. |

On topic: Yes, constructive posts/threads are locked and buried. Yes, the CS costs are unrealistic. Yes, the attemps to seperate you from your diamonds seem nefarious. Yes, bug fixes and balance are lower priorities than the CS. Yes, you can still have fun (for free) in spite of these problems.
RoM is a decent casual F2P MMO. I wouldn't take it too seriously though. |

Plan to spend, on average, 100k to get a piece of armor to +2. |

What resources are you talking about? That's my whole point. You're not saving anyone a dime because it's free to download and sample for every user. That's why it's stupid to tell people not to try a game when they have nothing to lose from doing so. At that point a person will choose whether it's worth sinking resources into or not.
To call your OP a review is laughable so I won't even address that in depth.
*edit* @ OP. I want to make it clear I'm not calling you stupid, that's not my style. I also have my issues with the game and no longer play it. The only point I wanted to make is that I did have my share of fun in RoM and I think nearly all fantasy MMO fans would find some fun in RoM as well, so I encourage everyone to give it a try because it costs nothing to see for yourself. If RoM cost $50 a box I'd be railing against it too, but it doesn't. Here was my summation of the development changes: |

It's pretty stupid to tell people to avoid a f2p game. Download it and try it. It's pretty fun until you hit 50. If you like making a lot of alts to try different classes it's fun in that regard. In the end you will either enjoy it enough to sink money into it or you won't and you'll be stuck with gear that won't allow access into higher dungeons. It takes 11 days of dailies to get 1 puri stone, it takes 6 puri stones to mod one piece of gear. That's a hell of a whole lot of days for a set of gear if you wanna play end-game for free. People will say "you can trade gold for diamonds in game" and that's true, at a a conversion of about 100k gold to 1 diamond (this used to be 5k for 1 diamond prior to the 30 day hold on diamonds. That's when these people had a point). That means you'd have to trade 5.5 million gold for 55 diamonds (1 puri stone) or 33 million for 1 piece of gear. The odds are better on farming the daily tokens for months on end. The other option I hear is to play alts to 50 and use their 4 free puri stones. That is an option, would only take 12 alts at level 50 to get enough puri stones to mod 8 pieces of gear. You could probably cut this down to 10 if you supplement with daily tokens. Like I said, download it and try it. It ain't half bad on the leveling trail. Just plan to watch all your friends who are casual or "free" players leave as they reach end-game. Free to have some fun? Definitely. Free to play at end-game? Not until after several months of farming. But hey, they ain't gonna give everything away for free. It's a business, not a charity.
I'd consider coming back myself if they started focusing on the right things (customer service, class balance, stat balance, make all class combos viable, and quit with the excuses about having a parent company [US servers]). |

To sum this game up in one word, I would use "inconsistent".
There is absolutely nothing you can count on staying the same from one patch to the next. Class abilities change, class focus/roles change, equipment changes (retroactive even), CS items change (not just item availability, but value changes on standard items), combat system changes, etc. Nothing, and I mean nothing, is sacred or dependable.
The game itself isn't bad. I rather like it in general. It has gradually become less fun as everything I was building has been skewed by wild development changes. However, I would still say it's one of the best F2P games available. The thing is, who is willing to stick around and invest time into a character when they know it will likely go from day to night as fast as the next patch rolls around? How do you even make a decision on a class to compliment your play style when that class' role may change over night? Why would I form groups to conquer bosses and acquire specific loot when that gear will be stealth nerfed in a future patch? What would encourage me to select a specific build for my character when all the skills I choose to utilize might be useless after an update (basically forcing me to buy a skill reset and change styles to be efficient again)? Most of all, why would I spend money in the CS unless I know what I'm buying?
The answer to these questions is "I would not".
I would still encorage people to give this game a try, but I will be hanging it up until some standard of consistency is reached. |
