That was pretty cool. I enjoyed the guy just rambling to be honest. I'm glad that thier making progress and eagerly await the chance to test the changes. While I'm only a Froob right now once these guys unviel the engine ill resub with my full account. AO is still in my opinion one of the top mmo's on the market even with dated graphics. |

Anyone else feel like they've grown tired of MMOs?

Other than the Aion beta weekends i havnt been playing mmo's at all so it might be just the thing. I personally don't know much about the Wii but as a player that does enjoy a nice session of console gaming now. I will say that console games have come a long way. Games like Mass Effect and Fable II have alot to offer a player like me. Also the Xbox live arcade is fantastic so many retro Atari games that have been "evolved". From Gears of War to Castlevania: SotN to Mass Effect to Pacman CE im having a freaking blast. I'm sure anyone could say similar things about the ps3 and wii, these gaming machines are really nice to have to break up that burnout we get in MMO's. |

I did get tired so I bought an Xbox360 about 500 bucks in games, a live account and it was fun. Hell it's still fun even though I've come back to my two favorite MMOs. All it took was a couple months off and for me to try two 21 day trials of my favorite sandbox games Eve online and Saga of Ryzom.

Wat tools would you put into an mmo??
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 8/08/09 11:56:42 AM
Damn guys, lay off the OP haha! To answer your question OP I have no complaints when it comes to the games I play (Ryzom, Eve). I could tell you what I want in a New mmo. I want a complete sandbox. I want to be dropped on a planet with the rest of the player base and have the developers tell us to do what we want. We would have tools to explore and and create maps for others to use, we would build up cities and political structure. We would have player created factions at war with one another. We would have content designers (think game masters) that would create mission terminals and dungeons for us. Overtime we would evolve to reach new planets and truly become a player created universe. Sorry I was getting ahead of myself, I doubt that would ever happen but one can dream :) |

If there is any reason you won't play darkfall, this is why.
General Discussion « Darkfall 8/08/09 11:35:56 AM
I'm sorry but you're a damn fool if you thought this game wouldn't have macroing. Did people not macro in UO? I knew what this game would be like well ahead of time. UO was a grind and these guys were modeling their game after UO. Imo AV needs to make an automated function in the game so everyone could macro Crafting/Gathering skills while offline. Would be easier to do that getting rid of the hacks and macros and banning a person here and there.

Sonic's Sega Genesis Collection, Old school gaming at its finest!
Console Gaming « General Discussion 8/07/09 10:36:46 PM
Guys I picked this Collection up for 29.99 and I can;t stop playing it. Altogether it has 49 sega games from phantasy star 1-4 to sonic 1-3 and more. This collection is filled with brawlers, puzzle games and hardcore platformers. the Vextorman series is on here along with all the streets of rage games and even the original Arcade version of altered beast. I know it's old school but this collection is a freaking blast. If you ever owned a Genesis pick this bad boy up.
Edit: Check out this game list: * Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle Unlockable Extra Games * Alien Syndrome (Arcade) |

Looking forward to trying this one. Shots look great. |

It's fine right now. We have a steady trickle of new players starting every week (21 day trial ftw). We have a bunch of extremely helpful players and the dev team has released a few patches improving the game and a new improved player tutorial area (fixed up the missions and gave you missions to run on mainland early on). Try it out Imo Ryzom is one of the top MMOs on the market today. It feels like the best kept secret in the genre atm. |

The degeneration of the sandbox idea.
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 8/07/09 7:49:37 PM
Originally posted by robert4818 I have yet to play a single sandbox game that was empty or lacked content. Right now im playing Eve and Ryzom, Eve has missions, crafting, gathering, pvp, pve group content and so on. Ryzom has Missions, crafting, gathering, pvp, boss hunts, raid lairs, raid bosses and more. UO and SWG has similar shit so did hybrids like AC and AO. Games like Wurm, Mabinogi and TotD have tons of things for you to do. you bring up Darkfall but that game has crafting, gathering, pvp, exploration, quests (a few), housing and a bunch of other stuff. The problem with DF is that it pushes pvp at you really hard and it's tough to get around that to try the other stuff. Seriously not one sandbox was devoid of content, not one only had a "Few bags of sand". |

General: Why Not Build a Proper Sandbox?

I support the ones that are in development now. I am following Mortal Online, Earthrise and Fallen Earth very closely. However, I have tried a few of the existing ones mentioned in this thread. It's going to take a certain kind of person to get into games like A Tale in the Desert or Wurm. They are very clunky by today's standards. Desert is zero combat (not a bad thing in my personal opinion) and Wurm's combat is awkward and ugly. I'm keep an eye out for future versions of Desert though. It's been evolving. I don't mind supporting indy devs, but I still have some standards as to what games I will enjoy and what I won't. I tried them and they didn't do it for me. To each his own. Yeah Games like Tale of the Desert and Wurm are really niche indy products. It's not easy to find the sandbox games in this mess of themeparks. Sometimes I have to look toward hybrids (Ones with skill systems under the hood like AO). I myself support Eve online and Ryzom. Ryzom is actually pretty awesome we just need more players so the pvp could take off. It supports, FvF capturable outpost pvp, FFA pvp zones, Dedicated pvp enabled arenas and a flagging system, No pvp looting but gear does decay so crafters are kept in business. I know its a bit limiting pvp wise for a sandbox but its the one game that gives players a choice. You can also get into Player run events, Boss hunts and Large Raid areas and encounters. It's not UO but it gives more freedom than most mmos on the market. I'm sure if you look around you will find something you enjoy.

I wouldn't take a Titan if you paid me in Real life cash. I'm just not the type of person that likes a big red target on his back for all of Null sec. Lottery sounds cool though. |

General: Why Not Build a Proper Sandbox?

You guys want more sandbox games on the market? The for the love of god support the ones that are out now. And no Eve isn't the only sandbox or sandboxish mmo on the market to day, do some research and help out. Show these AAA companies that a sanbox game can make decent money.

Eve has bloom, HDR and advance shadows already. AA can be forced with your graphics card control panel and it looks great. I don;t know what CCP is going to do with the planets but if they do let us land on them it might be Rts simcity hybrid type of gameplay. I don;t see CCP giving use entire worlds to live on like SWG or anything. I do agree this game has massive potential.

The skill system in this game is really good, However I just couldn;t get passed the Cel shaded graphics to give the game a solid go passed an hour. Glad you guys got new flying mounts though. |

I know this is an old htrad but I still find it interesting. I really wish we could get more people in on this and cover the majority of the P2p mmos. I know Eve is massive and I'm sure Atys (Ryzoms world) can easily give WoW and lotro a run for thier money. Curious about the others. |

Even the new space games like JGE and BP don't look as good. I'm glad you like the game i'm just shocked that you think it's dated at all. I think everyone is waiting for the walking in stations thing but it wont be for a while yet since CCP got their heads on straight and decided to fix shit that actually matters (FW,sov and Apoc bugs).

A fair warning about the grind: 19 Hours from level 44 to 45.

There was always a sufficient amount of quests, so that you never had to grind; though there was a lot more walking back in those days.
Quest stacking Is grinding also, it all depends on what grind a player enjoys more. I personally like a mix of both (I will grind packs of mobs on the way to quest hubs and between missions).
