Having followed this game for eight years, here's my summary of what went wrong

I can't help noticing the recent F2P proposals and server transfers have become a bit of a drama. |

EVE doesn't actually have 300k players playing it
Jita (General) « EVE Online 6/18/12 5:44:41 AM
As long as they have money coming in to keep a single shard server running and the dev's are paid then it doesn't matter. In all likelihood they are Iceland's best earner. |

Main reason why SWTOR flopped?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 6/16/12 10:43:12 AM
Retrospectively:
Released too early, probably under pressure from EA management, this happened with Warhammer. Patches weren't patches, but more bugs in an app. i.e. Ilum Single player space combat. MMO needs MMO space combat and nothing but this. Consumers were not going to pay a sub for single player space combat when they signed up for a MMO. Expensive game box's and preorders. Many servers meant costs weren't been recovered only incremently accrued. Subs might put people off if the game got trolled, or honestly constructively criticized dependent on view point. Hype, too too too much hype. Hype puts them off after time. SWG shutdown already cast a gloomy atmosphere before launch. Tried to be WoW in space. No night.
Mainly this. |

Xfire numbers tell tales: Evidence that D3 was a failure
General Discussion « Diablo 3 6/16/12 5:18:34 AM
The incredible amount of errors, bugs, etc, were enough to keep me away forever after the full 'D3' experience was er, experienced. The RMAH another, I felt fleeced enough, I just want to play a game. I cannot blame others if they leave in droves, congratulations for the huge volume of sales to Blizzard though, fair's fair. But when an entire country like S Korea, yet alone XFire, gets annoyed with Blizzard over D3 it's proof enough that something has gone wrong for mass amounts of players to leave over time. |

Korea prohibits trade of online game items
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 6/15/12 1:41:29 PM
Does this mean the end of the free to play cash shop model? Look's like subs will be the only way to play in S Korea. It's like watching karma in motion. My own viewpoint is that it should be up to the consumer rather than a government, but I can see how things are getting out of hand there. |

Massively calls it a mess, r/SWTOR rages
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 6/15/12 1:39:13 PM
Sometimes Massively is just a giant ad machine but they occassionally have an original thought and be daring with it. Titanic stage: the hull is rapidly taking on water now. |

SWTOR's 122 servers merging to 18! At least you made the MMO you wanted lol.
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 6/15/12 1:36:09 PM
History repeats. Warhammer all over again. Maybe SWTOR will go completely F2P, even further a step than Warhammer went. Lots more dev money to recoup, after all. |

Vote for ultraviolence with your wallet. You get what you pay for. Team Ultraviolence loves you for it! Spend spend spend. |

I am concerned about CCP putting so much of their resources into DUST, if it turns into a stinker then with their already troubled past i.e. Monocle-gate, may have to tighten their belts even further resulting in painful implications for EVE Online and WoD, both games whether paper based or computer based, I like. |

Good luck. Signing an agreement might be binding but that does not make a company automatically immune from liability, consmers still have rights regsrdless of what's agreed to etc. so they might try. I'm glad i got out at the beginning, never looked back. |

From 214 servers to 20-30, WOW
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 6/15/12 5:58:21 AM
I see the server merges as just the beginning to block the financial blood cut wound from spurting out anymore. I would not be surprised if a F2P announcement is made in the near future to try and save more monetary leakage and to run as cheaply as possible to recover or gain some stability, as well as bring in more masses to populate the servers. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Will TOR Adopt ‘Mega Servers’?
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 5/29/12 11:19:49 AM
Predicted timeline: Server merges 'mega' style --> F2P to level 15 -----------> Full F2P 'LOTRO' style, P2W DLC ---------------> SWTOR might still be alive in 2014. |

Who's to blame? EA or Bioware? Both?

This happened with Warhammer Online, rushed out too soon at the crack of the management whip so... rinse and repeat. |

The international economic climate is pants. That's got to have an effect. The Euro is dying, debt ceiling in US of America emerging yet again soon, game company's in financial trouble, it all adds up. |
