I feel pretty much the exact same way. I started playing Aion and enjoyed for a while but even though it's good looking and has a lot to offer I can't help feeling as I've already done everything the game can give me.

I too looked into old or semi new games such as DAoC, WAR and AOC but they just feel "meh" nowadays. It's hard to know what I want but personally I would like to see multiclassing or some system that allows more than just decent specialization. Most games these days offer few classes with few possibilities of making your character unique in any way.

I know there are games with multiclassing out there but most of them are too restricted. I just hope there's something new and exciting in the future of MMO:s but sadly I haven't seen anything yet.

the bot problem is pretty small. Just block the spammers and you'll be alright. Be prepaired for a grind from hell but a great game none the less.

I've been thinking the same thing as OP for a while now. The only thing that had me exited a year ago was WAR and while I still play and enjoy it (mostly due to beeing in a very, very good guild) I still want.. well... a better balanced game.

What would make me exited again then? Well, I enjoy both pvp and pve so a game with both is preferable. 2 factions is too hard to balance so either more or no factions is more interesting. Good vs evil is old and still works but I want something new or/and different. What about Horror vs Sci-fi vs Fantasy or something?

I don't like games where everything is about what gear you're wearing. Sure, gear should be important but not vital in every aspect to be able to compete. I want skill to matter. There's a lot more I would like in a game but these are a few things I'm looking for when browsing upcoming releases.

I will reopen my old account to play this old great game once again. I've played on and off since release and I still say this is the best rvr-oriented game made so far. I know there aren't many players left but I intend to give it a last shot when theres still enough around to give me that familiar thrill in rvr areas.

DAOC?

If you're going to try it, do it now. The population isn't that high nowadays but it works.

Tip: Get into a nice guild as fast as you can. Disregard the mediocre graphics and enjoy the best pvp out there (imo).

I'd say this is a serious step forward from games as World of Warcraft and Age of Conan. RvR seems a lot more viable and fun then most other games with pvp content.

There are of course things that needs work but hey, it's only open beta yet. See what happened with AoC... Warhammer seems a lot (A LOT) better already and it's only open beta.

Im really enjoying the classes I've tried so far and the RvR seems ok at this stage. Im really looking forward to the higher lvl RvR with more siege and stuff. It'll be interesting to see how much PvE content there is (and how playable it is) as well...

All in all an ok beta at this stage. EQ2 was worse, WoW was an equal and AoC was much worse at this stage (in my opinion ofc). Lets just hope that mythic can keep up the good work and make this an excellent game as Daoc was back in the day (and to some extent still is)!

As for Lineage 2... Yuck! Don't even bring that game up. It should be outlawed since it's so boring...

I don't think AoC's combat system is that impressive. So you can swing your weapon in a few diffrent ways and jump side to side... there are (imo) better ways to make skill count.

I do however like many other details in AoC but I think I'll wait a few months or so before I start paying for it. I'll play the free 30 days and then let them iron out some bugs and fix the class imbalances until I think about subscribing in a few months.

As for graphics, AoC is nice up close but demanding if you want the distant scenery to look anything but boring. Some spell effects are cool and I dig that but it's still not impressive. I have no idea what WAR will look like so I can't compare it with AoC but I'm really looking forward to try it.

Most game developers seek to please as many as possible, the more paying players a game get the more money they earn.

I do agree that some skill must be involved in games with pvp, but finding a balance that everyone can enjoy is pretty hard.

If WAR can take the best things from daoc pvp and implement a few new ideas Im sure It'll be great. I don't give a rats ass that the grapics has a few similarities to other already released games, It's how fun I have playing it that counts.

Not every game is for everyone. Some games focus on pve, some on pvp. Daoc is all about RvR, wich is great and games like EQ1 are all about pve, wich is also great.
Minions of Mirth!

Free to try, can only become 15 primary class and 5 in secondary before you have to buy it. No monthly fee though!
I've played most MMO's worth playing and the most immersive for me would be DAOC. Not because of graphics but because of the perfect balance between pve and pvp. Also might be because it was the first MMORPG I played. Other nice games are EQ1 and 2, they have loads of content and lore.
Im searching for a new MMO myself now, been trying loads of games but nothing is as interesting as daoc was back in 2001. Might be because I'm older or just the fact that games have more graphics than gameplay these days, I don't know.
Looking forward to WAR and perhaps LOTRO (few others aswell), might be fun.

I'd go for:

Autotrained:

19 Stealth - No need to comment this one I guess
21 Critical Strike - Perforate Artery + the other nice CS styles
16 Slash or Thrust (personally I like thrust more) - You'll be using CS styles so 16 weapon will do nicely.
17 Envenom - With +5 to this one you'll be able to use the first WS/Con debuff wich is really useful.
8 Dual Wield

No autotrain:

19 Stealth
21 Critical Strike
16 Slash or Thrust
17 Envenom
5 Dual Wield

Have fun

A good melee heretic can beat most other melee classes. Reavers and friars are very tough too.
It all depends on what you enjoy really, there are benefits with all classes as someone before me stated.

Tanks:

Mercenary: Hard hitting meleer with a few tricks up his sleeve
Friar: Staff wielding class with self buffs, high evasion and weapon styles that heals him/others.
Reaver: Hybrid tank with spells and nice positional weaponstyles.
Armsman: Pure tank wih ability to use polearm (and other weapons ofc). Lots of health etc.

Rogues:

Infiltrator: Assassin with ability to use poison, stealth and critical strikes.
Minstrel: King of versatility. Has songs and "spells" to help him. Can stealth and melee aswell.
Scout: Bow using assassin.

Casters:

Sorcerer: One of the best soloing classes in albion. Lots of versatility but low health.
Wizard: Fire, earth or ice spells... :) Nasty nuker
Cabalist: Caster with pet. Can be very dangerous when played correctly.
Theurgist: Very versatile. Casts temporary pets among other spells.

Other:

Necromancer: PvE god of Daoc. Can take down other classes too but is best used for PvE where they really, really shine.

Heretic: A hybrid with option to be meleer or caster. Nice solo class on classic servers.

It depends on what you like. In my oppinion: Every game has bad things aswell as good things. If I'd recommend any game it would be Dark age of Camelot. Very fun but perhaps a bit hard at first. Other nice games are World of Warcraft (community is often rather young though) or Everquest 2 (nice game for people with lots of time and patience). I've played many others but these are the ones I've liked most.

Is there a deep community?  Do people actually Roleplay?  Or is it like UO/WOW where everyone acts like little kid teenagers???

1. Not really. 2. Not many. 3. Yes, for the most part.

A few questions i had where, how long does it take to get a character to a high lvl, and are there any rewards for pvp or any thing like that, and 1 last question how are the graphics compared to the newer mmorpg's.

Taking a character to 50 (max lvl) takes anywhere from 3-30 days play time (actual in game time that is). If you have a nice guild, a buffbot or a powerleveling friend you can lvl very fast but doing it the way it was originally intended you'll spend alot of time waiting to get into a group (etc). The rewards for pvp are points wich you spend on improvements for your character.  Graphics are ok now with the new expansion.
Nope, still having fun. I've had no major problems with patches or server lag. Just can't wait until they release battlegrounds.

ignore this post, information posted here was already to be found

For me, every opinion is ok. Everyone has different views on how a good game should look and feel like and that's fine.

Personally I enjoyed EQ2 up to lvl 20 but after that I realized that it doesn't really get much better than that. Ohyea, there's lots of spells and equipment to be had but its just too repetitive. Im not saying the game is bad, it just doesn't suit me that's all. If the game had pvp I'd probably still play it since pvp is the ultimate endgame for me.
