http://mmohuts.com/games/racing?o=6&o=6 Have a look, i'm sure you'll find something. Personally I have not found a f2p racing game I could stand and gave up even trying them now, they should probably be the definition of pay2win. Doesn't matter how good you are or even what game it is, if you aren't willing to spend cash for all the latest and greatest upgrades/cars/parts/etc you might as well not even start playing. |

Sigh. So, GW2 is shaping up to be WoW 2 in many ways.

lol @ the poll results. You should probably never make amusing joke options when doing polls, they are too tempting and banana is just fun to say! (I voted banana) |

Power Supply: burning smell & sparking inside.
Hardware « General Discussion 2/23/12 12:46:05 PM
Well for the parts mentioned i'd be looking at about $20-30. It'd be worth it for that much, but only if they fit/work. That's what i'm concerned about at this point, if they don't then yeah I won't be putting any money into it either. EDIT: found a little prog called CPU-Z, it tells you everything about what is in your PC, what it's running at, etc. Those parts look to be the type it uses. May even be able to do some overclocking (if I bother figuring it out lol). As far as gaming on it is concerned I probably play old games the most anyways, actually a lot of which I originally played when this rig was brand new (and had it's original GFX card..) haha. 20-30 bucks to play most of them again seems alright to me, better than being stuck with nothing for a few months. |

Having just had a power supply die in an HP computer that is about 2 years old, and having the pleasure of experiencing their customer service - or lack there of (if your warranty has expired, they seriously refuse support & charge for your phone call if it is).. i'm quite glad to hear they have been losing money lol. On that note I don't think they are a very good example to point towards a decline in PC gaming popularity, they are just a terrible company. I'll definetly never buy any of their products again.

Power Supply: burning smell & sparking inside.
Hardware « General Discussion 2/23/12 11:15:52 AM
I havn't had any luck locating an identical power supply around here, so I may not bother at all. In the meantime I think I may just upgrade this older PC for a few bucks until I can just afford a new PC. It's from about 2000-2002 if anyone could give some advice or suggestions.
Currently it is: AMD Athlon XP1800+ 1.54ghz 768MB ram (has 3 slots) and that pitiful video card - Nvidia Vanta 16mb
Easiest would probably be RAM and video card, I think I know what type it needs already but not 100% sure. For RAM it would be DDR1, and video card has to be AGP? I've found some parts being sold in local ads, but i'm not entirely sure they will work: Two 1GB DDR 400MHz RAM and an AGP ATI Rage 128mb video card. A wide selection of AGP Video Cards ( there is a pic http://truro.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sell-computer-accessories-AGP-Video-Cards-10-Each-or-50-for-all-W0QQAdIdZ342929332) Not sure what any of them are lol still waiting for them to contact me back. |

Power Supply: burning smell & sparking inside.

Originally posted by Ridelynn lol cool story :P I didn't physically touch anything inside the power supply though, at most took a q-tip to the metal casing I removed from it to take off the caked on dust and just carefully vaccumed around the rest. I'm fairly certain it didn't fry anything else atleast, since it was still powering on and was opperating normally. Well apart from stinking anyways lol, I guess I caught it early. |

Anything over $50 to fix it doesn't really seem worth it really, I guess asking some local shops couldn't hurt. I'd love to get an all brand new-ish rig but that's out of the question for now. Also have that PS3 problem.. which is also out of warranty - automatic $200 there woohoo! -_- Seems i'm better off buying new in both cases. I managed to scrape together that old pc to use for now though, couldn't stand that netbook anymore. I kind of surprised myself there since it was just a bunch of disconnected and scattered pieces lol. But I just noticed someone swapped it's 440MX with some 16mb card lmao. The 440MX is nothing to brag about now but it was atleast 256mb and not 16! |

Power Supply: burning smell & sparking inside.
Hardware « General Discussion 2/22/12 12:51:23 PM
Today is just not my day, my PS3 even stopped reading discs. But Contacted HP and man do they ever have some shit policies. If the 1 year warranty expired you can't even contact them by email (must enter serial # and it checks before, expired = denied), and they also charge for phone calls to anything other than general tech support (basically the people who know nothing and transfer you). But after talking to some guy from India for a few minutes, the end result was this.. Estimated $300-400 for repairs. LOL
Thanks for the tips, I have an old PC lying around actually with a working power supply, a much much larger one size-wise though. I had began tearing out parts from both PC's in hopes of just putting all the HP's stuff into the old pc's case and use it's PSU (they are actually the same watt/voltz/hz) but unfortunetly the cables running out of it are not compatible at all with the HP's motherboard or whatever.
The HP case needs a specific size and shaped power supply too, that barely fit as it wa, costs about $85-90 online (good / bad?... It is this model actually so you can probably guess it's incredibly cramped: |

lol I was expecting a lecture as soon as I mentioned HP, it was a boxing day sale for about $200 (monitor/wireless mouse/board/nvidia gfx atleast) awhile ago and was actually an upgrade from what I had at the time haha. But yeah, I was a little nervous about opening it,it was that or nothing though since it isn't safe to use. I did give it awhile after unplugging before even going near it though, i'm still standing and got all my hair atleast. I guess i'll have to take it apart completly to get a look at where all the wires lead to see if it is removeble. I've never seen a more crammed case design in all my life, have to take every last thing out to see, and more screws than i'd like to keep track of either. May just give HP a call later and mention it too, can probably argue the warranty since it was nearly expured when I bought it.
Thanks for the responses. |

What did BioWare spend all of their money on?

Combovers and Brazilian waxes? They are highly stylized people after all *coughcough* |

There is a little thing called "D.I.D" - dead is dead. Not sure where it originated from, but I first noticed it as something the Fallout community was doing. Basically, if your character dies even once that's it, game over and you must start again. Now if you're someone who really wants a death to mean something, maybe give applying that concept a try. Making up your own rules is likely going to be the only way any game from now on will really punish a player, they are just too concerned about their games being for any/everybody now. |

Alright after many minutes of blinking and missing it lol, I finally saw where the spark was coming from. It's from the black coil under the fan (is it even supposed to be black? the other one isn't lol). Anyways I guess what I meant to ask earlier is if there's anything I can do to fix it besides replacing the enitre power supply box and/or entire computer? |
|
|
Well I got up this morning to notice an odd smell coming from my PC. Immediately disconnected it, torn it apart and cleaned it. Only to turn it back on and have the same smell pouring out of it. Upon further inspection the smell had been coming out of the power supply's box, tore that open and cleaned as best I could.. but this time powered it up while it was open and noticed itr sparked once but couldn't tell where it was coming from.
Not sure what I expect to find out other than replacing it, but some insightor something would be nice right about now. Using a netbook that can barely play videos smoothly is not very fun lol.
The PC is also some pre-built HP machine, expired warranty of course, i'm not overly tech-savy but i'm not even entirely sure if it's possible to replace it's power supply box since some of the wiring looks to be hardwired right into the thing.

What MMORPG game can i play that uses a 360 controller?
LFGame « General Discussion 2/14/12 7:51:00 PM
Vindictus and Dragons Nest. I know i've played other's with one too, just can't remember.. Although personally I thought both of those games controlled better with a mouse/keyboard, the way you need to use skills on a controller is kind of annoying/hard to remember (usually a combination of multiple buttons to do a skill set in a certain hotbar slot), the same is true for any game with the large F1-12+ or 1-0+ skill bar setups. DCUO on the otherhand works pretty good with a controller (on PS3 anyways, havn't played PC), it was definetly designed with consoles in mind. |

As much of a nod it is to fans as it is, it really should have been a seperate skin or something. That is not the MegaMan I will ever want to play as lol. |

General: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning - Roundtable Discussion
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 1/27/12 6:25:48 AM
The demo kind of cost them my sale actually. I had been looking forward to it for close to a year, and what I was faced with didn't exactly live up to expectations, even while knowing it was a demo from an older build. The general word I see people who disliked it saying is "generic" and tbh that's how it felt. It was such a blunt mash-up of other games (mainly WoW and Fable) that is basically melded into one giant uninspired feeling while playing it. BUT! That's not even really my problem with it however.. Outside of it's acceptable (not as great as hyped to be) combat, it all basically felt more like a single player MMO than it did a single player RPG! Those are two very different beasts in terms of how things are made/designed/layed out/etc and to me it appears to be only a building block for their upcomming MMO. |

After the KOA Demo, Are you going to buy it?
General Gaming « General Discussion 1/19/12 10:03:12 PM
No, not anymore. One of few times where a Demo has caused me to do a full 180 lol. I went in understanding it was an older build of the game, missing many patches/fixes (they were really open about making that much clear before release), had even been waiting for it for close to a year, even still I walked away not anywhere close to as impressed as hoped.
With 38/BigGame's all star team, I thought how could anything go wrong? But apparently pretty easily. I really do not have much hope for their MMO now either. The console game felt like a test build for that imo, an already outdated MMO at that, and if that turns out to be the case i'm not even sure i'd be interested in playing it even as a F2P. |

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is now available on Steam!
General Gaming « General Discussion 1/18/12 1:53:28 AM
Originally posted by Vhaln I agree with the graphics, they could really use some more work, even some design choices need changing (really disliked the white outline of what you target, it looks terrible). I didn't want to say it but WoW came to my mind too.. and that does not give me any hope for their upcoming MMO.
But anyways, it's a pretty large demo actually. Instead of completely boxing you into a single quest, you're given a time limit once you're in the open-world (45min I think) to do whatever you want. Although you're confined to a single province/contienent/whatever you want to call it, there are a few towns/factions/dungeons to find atleast. Still didn't go everywhere within that time, didn't even do a single quest either lol.
You should probably give it another try, the beginning single attack combo almost made me turn it off too. It does get better once you level up and start unlocking more/new things to combo together. |
|
|
Pick a task and do it? You don't have to have them all active you know :P Having every quest active at once, now that WOULD be overwhelming haha. I've just been wandering around and tend to do most things as I come acrossed them, STILL havn't even started the main quest (must be why there are no dragons yet).
I really don't get new gamer mentality these days. More should be better, but yet for some reason the games with the least meat on them are considered the best. I know a few people that feel that way, it's like they completly dislike open-worlds and anything where you are given choices.. It's a game not a ****ing movie!! /mini-rant |

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is now available on Steam!
General Gaming « General Discussion 1/17/12 10:14:59 PM
I just finished playing it, they've done something with the demo that I hope other devs adopt - earning unlockables to use in the full game (also ME3 items too). But i'm not really as impressed with it as I expected to be, was reeeeeally looking forward to it but now it's kind of in the "meh" catagory. No real serious offenses, but moreless nit-picks, not nearly as fluid combat as advertised (animation lock, and slight delay), and just an overall lack of a "wow-factor" (not world of). They really aren't shy about copying Fable at all it seem too. I more than expected some similarities and in some cases was hoping for them, but they went a little too far imo, even felt the need to use an identical method of finding items in water lol.
It was a demo so i've lowered my standards a bit to compensate, they've even stated the demo is of an older build with very few patches applied, though there are some things about it no patch can fix since they are main elements of the game. |
