Or, to be more specific, not everyone wants a Diablo 3 clone. The biggest inspiration for PoE was D2 which also didn't have respec. :)

You still get the content for free.... you just have to buy it with the points you will now get... for free!  So yes, there is now an extra step but I feel like I've been fairly compensated. 

Yeah, most sane lifers seem to be pretty happy with this - we're still getting all the content, but it seems likely we'll have some extra points left over as well (assuming the average content update costs less than 1200 points), which we didn't have before. :)

Absolutely. A lot of people are buying the game now who wouldn't have done it before = instant money for Funcom. Some of those people will inevitably end up buying content updates = more money where previously Funcom would've gotten €0 out of those people. Will it make up for the loss in subs? I guess it depends on how many people stick around and how good the content updates are.

That's a good point, although there hasn't been a lot of outrage yet - partly because everyone is focused on the transition itself and partly because those items are still fairly mild as far as cash shops go. Personally, I'm not a fan of the AP bonuses - I'm very much anti-P2W, but I suppose I can live with those. It's still better than, say, GW2's cash shop vis a vis selling advantages for real money - and most people seem to be happy GW2's cash shop, too, so I'd say Funcom still has some leeway. :)

PVP is not the focus of this game and it's pretty underwhelming even at the best of times - even when compared to other themeparks (for instance, GW2 also has themepark PVP but it's much better). Currently it's even a bit worse than usual, as they're trying to balance the largest warzone and the queue times are unbeliavable. 

I think TSW is a great game overall, but I definitely wouldn't recommend it if you're only interested in PVP. Personally I'm waiting for Unholy Wars, since - other than EVE - there aren't many MMOs with meaningful PVP out there at the moment that aren't total train wrecks. 

EDIT: WIll TSW going B2P bring any differences to the pvp situation (becasue of more players / fresh meat)?

Well, it will bring in more players - so more people to kill and hopefully shorter queue times (if most of the new people roll a Dragon :P). 

Advertising aside, I think this topic has some merit. I.e. if UW fails, what else is there that is an: 

1) open-world MMORPG

2) with meaningful skill-based PVP

3) in a fantasy setting

Is there anything like that on the market or coming up that isn't a complete train wreck (that is, other than Mortal Online)? A lot of MMO gamers (myself included) are pretty desperate for a game like that - but I'm not at all confident in Aventurine, who've shown themselves to be hilariously incompetent in the past. Is UW our last hope?

Were you interested in this game before it came out? Why? Why not?: Yes, although I have to admit I paid more attention to the development of GW2. 

Do you currently play this game?: Yes.

If yes, please explain why: I got to try the game during beta and was simply blown away by the story, the hilarious NPCs and the investigation quests in particular. I don't remember ever having to actually think while playing an MMO, so this was a very novel experience (and also part of the reason while TSW isn't very popular with the masses, I guess). It's a thinking man's game, definitely a change from all the "kill 10 rats"-style MMOs. 

What MMOs are you currently playing and why do you play these particular titles?: TSW is my main focus at the moment. 

What compels you to post in this particular subforum as frequently (or infrequently) as you do? It's my main MMO at the moment - even so, I post more often on the official forums than on here.
